Full Day Tour To Machu Picchu By Train

The day began early at 0230 with a ride to the train station in Ollantaytambo, followed by a train ride that was filled with awesome scenery. Upon arrival in Aquas Calientes our guide Samuel was waiting for us with his bright and friendly smile. This was by far the most professional guide we have had on tours we have booked over the last ten years. Samuel was very well spoken and educated us on the wonders of Machu Picchu, the culture and history of the site. His knowledge is worthy of mentioning again as it made the experience eye-opening for all of us. I have seen many documentaries about Machu Picchu, but none of them brought this place to life for me as did Samuel's in depth explanation. His attention to detail was really refreshing for someone who likes to be informed about the little things that are left out of the big documentaries. You can tell that he really loved his job, as he was eager to answer any questions we had. He told us about his prior experience as a hiking guide along the Inka Trial, a fact which makes it even more important to note that Samuel was the right guide for this trip. I'm not sure someone else could have brought this much enthusiasm with them along this spectacular life changing event. Samuel was very kind in helping out with a hand held out for extra stability when the passage was a bit steep for my sister-in-law. This is the kind of commitment that very few guides have when it comes to leading an excursion of this magnitude. I have dreamed about visiting this place for the last fifty years, and I/We were extremely pleased to have had this experience with Samuel's expertise and love for this sacred site. We also booked the Vistadome train and were so happy we did as it afforded an incredible a great viewing opportunity to see the surrounding countryside on the way to Machu Picchu. Once at the starting point we met our guide Samuel. After greeting us, he stood in line while we made our preparation for the tour and we joined him in the queue as he got close to entry. The rain was coming down heavy until we joined him and then cleared for the remainder of the tour, which we considered to be our good luck charm guide. We then spent the next couple of hours moving through the site and having excellent conversation regarding the people, history, and construction of Mach Picchu. Samuel was extremely knowledgeable and well versed in what the site offered and answered all of our questions throughout our time together. The way back went just as smoothly as the way there. The entire day was a wonderful choreography of personal service. At each point, there was someone there looking out for us and assisting us getting to where we needed to be. It was a long day but so worth it! We want to thank everyone involved in making this day an incredibly special experience! We have truly felt pampered and part of something great. A special shout out to Samuel for making this bucket trip adventure all it could be.

Samu was the best guide i ever met! The meet and great from station was great. Besides the knowledge he was also the best photographer and knew the best photospots. Especially that i was a solo traveler i was so lucky with him because now i have the best photos and videos and much better than professional photographers i had!! Also he recommended a great restaurant in Aguas calientes and that was amazing too!

Our tour guide was in too much of a hurry, Only spent 1 1/2 hours at Machu Picchu. The history and geology presented for explanation for pre-Inca times is inadequate and misleading. The Inca did not build such a structure. On return to Lima train station a carriage derailed and there was a 3-hour delay

We were so impressed by the planning the company took (Ricardo) to coordinate our trip from Cusco to Machu Picchu and back. There were so many moving parts and they took care of everything! Every time we got to a point in the experience were we were starting to get confused there was another person from the company there to guide the way. On top of that, the guided experience itself was outstanding! Our guide was truly passionate about the site and taught us so much about Inca and Peruvian culture and history.

Our family tour of Machu Picchu exceeded our expectations thanks in large part to Sam. He was very knowledgeable, pleasant and made sure we did not feel rushed and that we got great pictures. But I (mom) feel indebted to Sam as he carefully assisted me on the areas where my balance was not equal to the task alone. He did not make me feel like a bother and took breaks as I needed them! This your experience was exactly what I needed! I was visiting Lima for a wedding and when other tour groups told me it would be “impossible” to do a 24 hour tour to Machu Picchu from Cusco, Ricardo of Illa Kuntur travel company made it possible! Through his efforts, he procured circuit 3 tickets on our behalf, not to mention, he coordinated all of our hotel/train/shuttle transfers and paired us with Samuel, our private tour guide who was very knowledgeable about Machu Picchu history, Peruvian history in general and explained the biodiversity of the area with perfect illustrations. He was very patient with us and gave us wonderful recommendations for eating. We had an amazing and “impossible “ experience thanks to this tour group and the amazing tour guide/transportation operators. If you are told it is impossible to do Machu Picchu in 24 hours from arrival, this would only be the case if you do not coordinate night before travel to Cusco. Ricardo made it happen!

Machu Picchu was impressive! We walked the 2nd circuit with the very detailed explanation from our tour guide Samuel for almost 3 hours. Samuel speaks perfect English and is very knowledgeable, from history, cultures, agriculture, to geography and biodiversity, he answered all our questions. Our family had an unforgettable experience in Cusco and Machu Picchu. During the peak season, almost every travel agency told us that all tickets were sold out and that our trip would not be possible. I can’t say enough good things about this experience. I booked this 2 weeks before the tour, long after all Machu Picchu tickets were already sold out, and this was the only company that said, “put your trust in me, and we’ll do everything we can to get this done.” And guess what? Ricardo delivered! I had tried booking with 2 other tour companies and they made it so difficult. One just automatically canceled, and the other told us to be in Aguas Calientes 2 days before the tour for a “possible, not guaranteed” ticket?! What?! We had other plans. First off, communication with Ricardo is 5 ⭐️! Direct, fast, no BS, and he responded any time of the day. When he said he’ll get the tickets 2 days before the tour, explained the process with the Peruvian government releasing last minute tickets, and then sent a WhatsApp message at 12:03 AM on the night of the promised date saying, “We got them”... NOW THAT IS 5⭐️ service!!! He sent the full itinerary to our hotel front desk, arranged all the pickup and drop-off transportation, train tickets, Machu Picchu entry, and best of all, a private tour guide (an absolute must!). Our guide, Nilton, was amazing, 1000⭐️! So polite, humble, and knowledgeable about the history and culture. He never rushed us, gave us plenty of time, took breathtaking photos and videos of us (he totally knows all the best spots), recommended an incredible restaurant (Full House, a must!!!), and gave us clear directions back to the train. On the way back, Ricardo told us to meet Marcelo at the train station for our ride back to Cusco. Marcelo sent us a photo of the exact meeting spot, and what a ride it was! There was massive traffic, but Marcelo kept us completely entertained with the culture, history, and local traditions of Cusco. He was like a private historian, telling stories about every single spot we drove by, from the local wandering dogs to the traditional Cusqueña bread street stalls and even the history of the regional landslides. It was fascinating! Another 5⭐️! Overall, Ricardo and his team made this a truly memorable, once-in-a-lifetime journey. We will treasure this for our entire lives, and I HIGHLY RECOMMEND them!!! It was a last minute booking so I had to pay extra for a higher return train ticket. Other than that there was no confirmation that I would get a group tour guide which would have costed more to get a private guide instead. Thankfully it all worked out but I had to reach out and push for information the day before for the trip. Once everything was booked and I was given an envelope with all my tickets, it was a smooth process and the agency helped with everything. It was just making me nervous before the tour because I did not hear back from the agency about next steps and had to push for information. FYI for last minute bookings, you have to do a two day tour since you have to buy tickets in person for the day after.

The transportation for the tour was very efficient. The tour guide took care of the Group and was very knowledgeable of the history and current situation of the site.
