I was scared of the hike to rainbow mountain. I took my time. I went slowly and on my time. I stopped frequently to catch my breathe. Alex was a great guide! Kind and caring!

ATV’s easy to master. Don’t be fooled by the seemingly short incline beyond the plaque to the point where you can see Rainbow Mountain. Listen to the guide, take his help & if needs be ride pillion on back of motorcycle (or ride a horse). It’s a sight you must see - extra special as young condor’s were flying about too! But the altitude must be respected, so take your time & enjoy trip
You must enjoy adventure and be ready for the high altitude. The locals are friendly and will help address any concerns you may have. Carry Soles to pay for any incidentals.
We had a great time. Edgar was a great guide and even went above and beyond to help another tourist in distress.
Long day but totally worth it! Beautiful views and so much fun! Our guide was incredible! Thanks for a great experience!
What a fun experience! It was so much fun riding the quads, honestly that’s the smartest way to do Rainbow Mountain. You feel the elevation the moment you step out of the van. Be prepared, wouldn’t suggest doing this one first when arriving to Cuzco. Get acclimated first. The views were amazing. This tour was phenomenal. Breakfast and Lunch was delicious. Our tour guy Moises was Fantastic!!!!
It was a great and truly unique experience Everything was well organized and on time. The food was delicious, and the ATV ride was a fantastic part of the tour. Our tour guide was the best very friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful. I really enjoyed every moment of this trip and would highly recommend this tour to anyone visiting Rainbow Mountain🤝
Freddy our tour guide was kind and great on checking uo on everyone. the tour was fantastic easily one of my highlights of peru. we got picked up and communication was clear before the tour start. the breakfast and lunch place the choices were fantastic! the motorcycle is optional, but to be honest with that altitude just pay for it. there was no pressure to do the optional transportation, the van is a bit small but has space to store your items above. the driver was knowledgable and quick. overall this tour was fantastic!
Rainbow Mountain is beautiful! It is at 16,500 feet elevation, so plan accordingly - get altitude meds before the trip and expect to suck some air! ATV ride through Red Valley was beautiful! We were supposed to take a motorcycle from the ATV parking spot, then a 5 minute walk to the top but ended up being a 45 minute walk to the top, with no motorcycles. I opted for a horseback ride, which was perfect but an additional charge (worth every penny). Entire area is beautiful and there are a lot of people. Food provided was good, lots of options. We had a "glam girl" on our tour, so she had to stop and take a lot of selfies on the ATVs. Also had a couple guys who were reckless, kept trying to bump into each other on the ATVs. Samuel was our guide, he was a little hard to understand but we managed. Roads in Cusco area are terrible, just know that because it's a long, bumpy ride to and from Rainbow Mountain!
This was without a doubt the best and most memorable experience I’ve ever had. Rogelio, our tour guide was incredible, he made us feel so welcome and energised for the trip, he was incredibly knowledgeable and was determined to give each of us a lasting experience. He even took the most amazing photographs of me, my friend and partner. They are the best pictures we’ve had on the whole trip! Don’t miss out on this adventure because you are nervous to ride an ATV, none of us had experience and we all managed absolutely fine. All the guides talk you through everything.
Rogelio our guide was amazing. From start to finish the views and experience was incredible. The wake up at 3:30am (picked up outside our hotel) was totally worth it! Rogelio ensured everyone was feeling ok, the altitude will affect you but the team looked after us. I will let the photos speak for themselves, the highlight of our visit to Peru
This is an amazing tour! We had a great experience with guide Rogelio. He helped us take wonderful photos and provided medical support for altitude sickness throughout our journey. Really appreciate your help Rogelio, you rock!
Very nice. Take your time up that mountain.
Amazing experience! They have very good communication when it comes to picking you up from your hotel. The van is a little tight so be prepared for that but the guide and atv tour itself was amazing. The ride up to the mountain was so much fun and the hike up to rainbow mountain was a bit rough but definitely worth it.
Amazing experience! They have very good communication when it comes to picking you up from your hotel. The van is a little tight so be prepared for that but the guide and atv tour itself was amazing. Our guide, Rogelio was always checking up on us and did not rush us at all. The ride up to the mountain was so much fun and the hike up to rainbow mountain was a bit rough but definitely worth it.
I'm so happy we did this tour! Rainbow Mountain was definitely worth it and riding the ATVs on the scenic route up to get there was a once in a lifetime experience. The ATVs were definitely a good idea because the elevation sickness hit us hard. This was mostly our fault though: We landed at 11:30pm in Cusco and we were on the tour bus at 4am without acclimatizing at all. Our tour guide R. Cutipa was amazing though and kept encouraging us to go further. When my friend felt really bad he had oxygen on deck to help out. He showed me the best spot for pictures and took amazing photos when I finally reached the viewpoint. My friends could not make it to the top on foot but he did not let them give up after they had come all this way and instead got them motorbikes so they too could make it to the top and see Rainbow Mountain. We also forgot to bring cash for the entrance fee and bathrooms but he let us borrow cash for everything we needed and pay him back at the drop off location right outside the atm. Thank you for looking after us throughout this tour and encouraging us to make it to the end!
As seniors, my husband and I joined a tour to Peru, the beautiful country we always wanted to visit. Our tour had total 12 days in Peru. One of the days, there was no group activity. So, we decided to book a tour to Rainbow Mountain through the App of Viator. Like most of our seniors, we face lots of challengers for using modern technologies, like mobile phone use, online access, online transactions, etc. When I booked the trip, I didn’t pay close attention to the date, which turned out was the wrong date. The tour bus and guide contacted me several times and even went to my hotel to pick us up. Unfortunately, my phone ran out of batteries, and I didn’t know everything had happened. Eventually, my phone finally got charged and then I immediately contacted the tour organizer and leader Mr. Viajes Speedy. There was plenty of communication between us by WhatsApp. He patiently explained everything to me and showed his sympathy and kindness. The tour bus even came to our hotel to pick us up, which was not on the list of pickup places. We eventually went on the Rainbow Mountain tour and realized our dream finally. Without Mr. Viajes Speedy’s great help, I am sure we’ll not be able to do so. I highly appreciated his patience, kindness and great service.
Amazing and very fun experience, not to be missed if you are in Cusco!! The ATV itself was so fun and the views are 10/10. The guide also made sure we got all the photos we wanted.
3 stars but it had nothing to do with the company. Communication before the experience was great. The pick up was on time. The van was comfortable. The breakfast/lunch buffets were delicious. Our guide Sergio was nice. I'm giving this experience 3 stars because, due to weather, we never actually got to do our ATV experience at Rainbow Mountain. We rode approximately 6+ hours to spend about 30 on the mountain to look at snow. You can't predict the weather but I do believe the tour company could have cancelled the tour before we got on the van as the bulk of our day was eaten up sitting in a van with nothing to show for our excursion other than a handful of pictures. Rainbow Mountain is still on my bucket list and I would use this company again but would cancel the night before if the weather looked questionable.
5 min walk to the classic view point
I would do this all over again! We rode up to the red valley, and walked over to rainbow mountain. Truly a majical experience being out in the Andes Mountain. The trip is long, but the team really make it’s comfortable for you.
My wife and I had an incredible experience on the Rainbow Mountain tour from Cusco, and we couldn’t have been happier with this company. From start to finish, everything was exceptionally well organized and offered outstanding value for the money. Our hotel pickup was right on time, and the bus was clean and comfortable. A special thank you to our driver, Edwin, who navigated the winding, narrow dirt roads with confidence and care. At no point did we feel unsafe—his professionalism made the journey up the mountain just as enjoyable as the destination itself. Breakfast and lunch were both included at the same restaurant, and both meals were fresh, delicious, and far better than we expected for a tour. What truly made the day unforgettable, though, was our guide, Rogelio. He took the time to explain the entire itinerary so we always knew what to expect, and he was incredibly friendly, knowledgeable, and passionate about the region. Along the way, he shared fascinating information about the Andes Mountains, answered every question our group had, and even gave us excellent recommendations for places to have dinner back in Cusco. If you’re lucky enough to have Rogelio as your guide and Edwin as your driver, you’re in for an amazing experience. The ATV ride was a fantastic addition to the tour. Not only was it a lot of fun, but it also made the climb much easier and helped reduce the effects of the high elevation. Overall, this was an outstanding tour that exceeded our expectations. It was well organized, reasonably priced, and filled with unforgettable scenery and great people. We even ended the day having made new friends. I highly recommend this tour to anyone visiting Cusco and looking to experience Rainbow Mountain!
Amazing experience. Not only do you get to check out rainbow mountain up close without as much physical effort, the ATV ride to see the Ausangate glacier was truly special. Beto was a great guide who made our group feel safe and comfortable. Would recommend!
Rogelio was fantastic. It was a great experience and the ATVs were a blast. The food was also a nice plus.
This was a blast. Riding ATVs, seeing Alpacas and experiencing the cool crisp air while speeding down a road. Food was also a plus.
This was an amazing tour. Rogelio was our guide. He is local and very knowledgable. We skipped all the difficult hiking and instead drove motorcycles to the highest point possible. Then, the little walk up to the top of the mointain was way more maneagable for us (living at sea level). Afterwards, we drove ATVs around the area were we watched alpaca and llama farming and Mountain Ausangante. It felt that this was much more of a complete experience than the hiking only tours. Also, the brakfast and lunch by locals was really good! Thank you so much for this experience!
This was an amazing day at the Rainbow Mountain! Tour company coordinated a day before the pick up time and we planned accordingly. We took altitude candy, tea and acclimated a few days in Cuzco before taking the tour. They picked us up promptly, at the door at around 4am. We stopped for breakfast close to the mountain and continued our journey. The ATVs in my book were a huge help and a must if you have difficulties with the altitude. I didn’t like renting a poor horse, which is offered at the place, so ATVs were not only a fun way to get up there but also had gorgeous view. Please bring cash for extras if you want to go up on a motorcycle after you get off the ATV. Overall, highly recommended and a good way to get up to the top!
The pick up was nice and easy. The ride to the breakfast was smooth and had wonderful views. The breakfast and lunch were awesome and very filling. We got to drive the ATVs, and that was SO COOL. One recommendation is to bring gloves. It is very cold in the mornings. Bring appropriate apparel for weather. Rainbow mountain was BEAUTIFUL! So many beautiful colors and pictures. A bunch of alpaca to take pictures with and vendors at the top. Another recommendation is to bring plenty of Soles. There is a lot to pay for, so be prepared to pay with Soles. Not USD or euro or credit. Other than that I highly recommend this tour for anyone interested.
Breakfast and lunch were great. The experience itself was amazing. Riding the atvs was very fun and the rainbow mountain was amazing.
It was an incredible experience. Taking the atv up to Vinicunca really helped with the altitude sickness, we beat most of the crowds to take good photos, the atv rides to see the Andes mountains was really fun. Rogello was an excellent guide that's good at speaking english who told us lots of fun facts. I would highly recommend this tour
Rogelio made the entire experience unforgettable! The breakfast was fantastic, with places to buy gloves, leg warmers, and sweaters because it’s colder than whatever you think it’s going to be. We then took ATVs up the scenic mountain, with the option to either take one yourself or share with a buddy. There is an entrance fee of 25PEN. We then got taken up the rest of the way by local motorcyclists for another 30PEN (they are very fast). After riding with a motorcyclist, we finally reached the last steep, snowy section where we hiked ourselves. Rogelio was fantastic in making sure everyone was safe, made suggestions for a better view, and even took photos. He also helped two people down the mountain, whether it was slippery from snow or another party member had a bad knee. Going back on the ATVs, we had a gorgeous ride to Mirador Ausangate where there was nobody around us. When one party member had an issue with his ATV, he was quick to make sure he was safe and get unstuck. We then went back to the same spot for lunch, which was again delicious. All in all, we would definitely recommend this exact itinerary, as it was safe, educational, relatively easy, and had beautiful views!
We have a wonderful day trip yo Rainbow mountain. Our tour guide CUTIPA take good care of us. Well organized. Well knowledge. We all take the ATV there then a motorbike, trust me, it is worth it to pay. Save more energy to get up to the mountain.. we all back down. We all can manage it with such high altitude. Thank you so much.
Great tour guide (Rogelio) great breakfast and lunch, awesome activities and comfy transport couldn’t have asked for more!
We did not love this tour, but we acknowledge that largely came down to a mismatch of expectations. We are not ATVers, or really the type of people who are into extreme sports. We booked this tour because my husband is very altitude sensitive, and I wanted to go to Rainbow Mountain without a lot of actual hiking. This was a mistake on our part - turns out, you ATV on this tour to the spot where every other tour bus parks. Then, you have to pay extra for a motorcycle to take you to the top. That's fine, but we would have just bussed to that spot if we had known that's how the other tours worked. Though the ATVs weren't for us personally, the tour did build in time at the end to take them out for an extended ride and a photo opp in front of a nearby snowcapped mountain. For what it's worth, the other tour guests seemed to be having a blast. I will say, we didn't love the van. We seem to have paid much more than most other tours to Rainbow Mountain (presumably due to the ATVs). However, our van was pretty uncomfortable and you spend 4-6 hours in it. While other tours were in tour busses, I think our vehicle was more akin to a mini van. This would have been okay, but they booked 5 guests, a driver, and a guide, into a van with 6 regular seats and 3 small middle seats. The van did not seem to have AC and the windows didn't seem to be treated. On the way there it was freezing cold and we couldn't see out of the windows because there was so much condensation (a bummer to not see the views you booked the tour for) and on the way back it was very hot with the sun beating in. I did find myself frustrated with the lack of communication from the tour company. We had booked and completed several other tours at this point in our trip, and the communication from this company was by far the worst. Other companies usually send a confirmation, pick up time, final guidance/tips, etc. We got nothing from this company - I finally reached out 18 hours before departure time to ask if they would picking us up, if they had the hotel address, if the breakfast and lunch could accommodate food allergies, etc. Though they did respond, they didn't initially answer all my questions. They ended up sending me last-minute guidance about 7 hours before our 4 am departure with information about what to pack and letting us know we needed to have about s/.100 in cash for entrance into Rainbow Mountain and for the separate motorcycle ride to the top. We were already packed and luckily had enough cash, but it was very last minute if we had needed to pick up cash or adjust our packing. Also, when we returned to Cusco after the tour, they did not drop us off at our hotel the way they had dropped other guests off. They had us get out on the Plaza Mayor (at the bottom of the hill from our hotel) and we watched as they drove away up the hill we needed to walk up to get to our hotel.
This experience was super fun. Amazing bus ride, followed by an ATV experience at such an altitude. Eduardo was very good in organising everything quickly and in a timely fashion. Icing was that they dropped us back to the pick up place.
We don't know where to begin. What a great experience We chose the ATV and the back of a motorcycle adventure. What a fun way to get within a short hike's distance to a magnificent view of Rainbow Mountain. Our guide Edgar was wonderful. He constantly checked on us to make sure we were doing well with the altitude. We also got to extend our ATV tour to see the majestic Mirador Ausangate. Awesome. A really great trip!!
We had a wonderful time on this tour. Our guide Edgar and driver Marco was so attentive. They communicated and was exactly on time for the pickup. When we arrived at the ATVs, Edgar made sure that everyone could safely handle the ATV or have them go with a partner. We took motorbikes up and walked to the viewpoint. Such an amazing experience
We couldn’t be happier with this excursion. Out tour guide Edgar was so awesome. Tons of value with this purchase. We would highly recommend this excursion. There are additional costs associated with this excursion, 60 Soles per person to get a ride to the top of the mountain and back down on a motorcycle. If you do want to skip taking a motorcycle to the top and back down, bring comfortable walking boots because it’s a 75 minute walk up, and a 60 minute walk down. If traveling during the dry season, bring warm clothing and a good pair of outdoor boots. Prepare for the possibility of high elevation sickness.
The tutor is very professional, responsive, and punctuated. The ATV experience is extraordinary The elevation is 4980m
What an incredible experience. Cesar was the best tour guide, and the scenery was breathtaking. Make sure to hike to the Valle Rojo! Be prepared for the altitude.
Wonderful breakfast and lunch. Tour director could not be more attentive and accommodating. Made sure I was able to handle ATV on own. Kept eye on my trekking down from mountain
We didn't get to see the colors of rainbow mountain because of snow and clouds but we were there. Good amount of ATV riding. Easy to operate even for 1st time user. I'm 68 and my wife 63 and made it up there with no problems. The guides Edgar & Elvis made sure you were always safe. When we reached the parking lot area parked the ATV's. It's an hour walk steady uphill and 30 minute walk down. To save time Edgar arranged for us to hop on back of a motorcycle to get us to the top and we walked down. Got to enjoy a good ride back a different route to check out the beautiful mountain and see lots of llamas & alpaca's. Good lunches. Early morning start 3:30am back by 5pm. Wish the weather was better but otherwise a memorable experience! If you are in Cusco and want an adventure and not do a so so City Tour this it it. Make sure you take your altitude pill, a young physically fit Italian Couple in their 20's couldn't do it because of altitude sickness! We booked thru Viator and was not offered either Gate 1 Tours.
Yo visit The Rainbow Mountain was incredible is about 3 hours from Cusco to another spot where you take cuatrimotos for 25 minutes then you can walk or take a motorcycle or a horse ride the rest is about 10 minutes walk the altitude there is about 5000 feet but is tolerable we really enjoyed and for us it was not the cold, the views are magical due to the minerals they explain our guide Edgar was phenomenal always making sure everybody was ok . This tour provided breakfast and lunch exquisite highly recommend.
I recently visited Rainbow Mountain, and while the tour included both breakfast and lunch (which was honestly the best part), the overall experience was extremely disappointing. What was advertised as an ATV tour quickly turned into something very different. At a certain point, we were forced to stop and leave our ATVs, then told we had to pay extra for a motorcycle ride to continue. This felt misleading—especially since we saw other companies successfully taking their ATVs all the way up. It gave the impression that this company works with the motorcycle drivers to generate additional revenue, as we were charged 70 soles total (35 soles each way). When we finally reached the top, visibility was poor due to fog and snow. While weather is unpredictable and not the company’s fault, the overall organization made things worse. Our tour guide was frequently nowhere to be found, even while my friend and I were experiencing mild altitude sickness, which was concerning. There were also multiple issues within the group. Some people said they had not originally paid for the ATV but were pressured into doing so. Others paid extra for the Red Valley extension, but that portion of the tour ended up being canceled. When people complained about not getting to see Red Valley, the tour guide actually blamed my friend and me for being sick, as well as a couple in our group who chose to walk. This was extremely unprofessional and unfair. We were also told we would only be on the mountain for about 30 minutes, but it ended up being over an hour—adding to the exhaustion, especially given the altitude. The entire day felt disorganized and frustrating, with constant waiting and very little clear communication. It also became clear that multiple tours are combined, so you don’t really know what experience you’re signing up for or what group you’ll end up with. Everyone in our group had different expectations—some wanted to hike, some wanted the ATV experience, others wanted to see Red Valley—which made the experience feel chaotic. To make matters worse, there was also a very disturbing moment during the trip when the driver ran over a dog. Everyone on the bus heard the dog cry, and there was no acknowledgment or concern shown afterward, which was upsetting to witness. Overall, this was the worst experience of my trip. I would strongly caution others before booking with this company.
Very cool experience! It even snowed on us! Be careful of weather, it was cloudy for us. But, bring cash for the llama pictures!! A must do in Cusco.
Amazing scenery along the way and outstanding view of Rainbow Mountain The ATV experience was good fun too
It is a long day but well worth the effort with the scenery Pick up from hotel was seamless and the guide and small bus was good also
Very long day, bad weather, but still fun! Great experience in spite of snow! I would recommend this tour if you already adjusted to higher altitude.
It was everything promised! Picked up at our Hotel at 4AM by car service and dropped off to a comfortable 15 passenger bus and we were off! Breakfast first then the Mountain! The ATV’s were easy to operate and the best way to get up there. Then we stopped for lunch and were back by 4PM. ANGIE was our guide and spoke both English and Spanish. She takes people up to Rainbow Mountain every day and she was amazing! This was a great experience!
Amazing experience! Best I had in Peru. Would 100% reccomend booking this! I went with my bf and we were able to ride together
