Recently, I trekked with Action Peru Treks, and I can’t recommend them highly enough. We were lucky enough to have Eddie and Milton as our guides, and they made the entire experience unforgettable. The Ancascocha Trail was breathtakingly beautiful and incredibly serene. I can’t imagine having the same experience on the traditional Inca Trail with the larger crowds. The scenery was absolutely stunning from start to finish. Speaking of “breathtaking,” I was quickly humbled by the altitude despite vigorous preparation at home. I’m extremely grateful for the patience, encouragement, and support from our guides. They went above and beyond, using their contacts and resources to help me get through the steepest passes while still allowing me to experience as much of the trek as possible. The food was also incredible — our cook, Valerio, prepared amazing meals every day. The entire team worked so hard to make us comfortable, from waking us up with hot tea in our tents each morning to serving delicious three-plus-course dinners every night. Milton also guided us through the sites around Cusco, the Sacred Valley, and Machu Picchu, and I learned so much throughout the journey. At every stage of the trek, I felt safe, supported, and genuinely cared for. I highly recommend booking with this group for an unforgettable Peru trekking experience.

Itinerary
After meeting you at your hotel, we drive 1h 45m to Soqma (10,512 ft). This is the starting point of our trek. The hike begins with a 2 hour walk to the Perolniyoc cascade lookout. The waterfall is breathtaking! Then, hiking for a further 45 minutes we visit the Inca site of the same name. Perched on a cliff-top with spectacular views of the surrounding valley, your guide will share some of the history of the site and you will be free to wander through the ruins. Next we make a steep ascent for around an hour to reach our lunch spot, Rayan (12,139 ft). Here you will sample for the first time the incredible culinary skills of your chef. The afternoon begins with a challenging 3 hour uphill hike to reach the Kuychiccasa pass (14,599 ft). Passing the rustic houses of the farmers, at every turn you will see sumptuous views of the snow-capped peaks of the ‘Nevadas’, and llamas. As we reach the top of the pass we take a break to soak in the magnificent views of the Chancachuco Valley. From here it is an easy 45 minute downhill to reach our camp at the Chancachuco Valley (14,147 ft). Here, with the campsite already prepared when you arrive, you can change into warmer clothing.

This was one of the most incredible experiences I’ve ever had, and it was all thanks to the amazing team at Action Peru Treks. Every detail was thoughtfully considered — the behind-the-scenes organisation that made each day feel seamless truly blew our minds. The gear provided was top-notch, and everything ran smoothly from start to finish. A special thank you to our guide, Lino. He was not only incredibly knowledgeable and patient, but also just a wonderful human being to be around. He had an answer for every single question we asked, and we loved immersing ourselves in the rich Inca culture. We’re also so grateful to the team of cooks and horsemen who prepared the most delicious meals and handled all the logistics with such care and professionalism. This tour was absolute perfection — I couldn’t recommend it more highly.
Roxner and the team at Action Peru Trek’s blew us away with a truly exceptional service. From the first enquiry we sent month before our hike, through till the final drop-off after our incredible trek, everything was so thoughtful and well-organised. The team on our 4-day trek were truly amazing: Lino our guide was kind, deeply knowledgeable, accommodating and always made us feel safe and cared for. Andres and Luis prepared insane banquets for every meal that blew us away again and again. The gear (tents, sleeping bags, poles and sleeping mats, in our case) were excellent quality: we had two mattresses, -18 rated sleeping bags, pillows, and fleece sleeping bag liners provided, and the tent was very generously sized for two people… safe to say, we were so comfortable each night. The organisation was seamless. Our MachuPichu tickets were booked for 6am - truly a gift, as we avoided the crowds and heat. Every transfer was comfortable. So many thoughtful touches every day, which all meant we felt so cared for, relaxed and could enjoy the beauty of Peru’s culture, history and breathtaking landscapes with total peace of mind. Couldn’t recommend this company highly enough. Thank you Roxner, Lino and the team for creating such a special experience for us.
This trek was a truly unforgettable experience for my friend and I! At first we were a little nervous to be the only ones in our group, but we felt safe and supported the entire trip. Our guide Christian was knowledgeable, kind, encouraging, and fun to spend time with. The porters and chef were very sweet. Some of the coordination before and afterwards left something to be desired, but while we were on the trip everything went smoothly. The hike itself isn't for the faint of heart but totally worth it!
My brother and I did this trip and had an amazing time! This trail, while not the classic Inca trail, is a great experience. The hike goes through the mountains and gives amazing views without the crowds of the classic trail. We visited several Incan ruins along the path, along with water falls and lakes in the mountains. Our staff were very helpful and friendly. Each day we had three meals cooked for us, each of which was very good. One my birthday, the chef even prepared a cake to celebrate. Our camp and tent were set up each day for us which allowed us to relax after a long day of hiking. Our tour guide, Nito, was awesome. He is very knowledgeable of the Incan civilization, Peru, and the world in general. He shared many stories with us while we hiked and was very encouraging during the difficult parts of the hike. Many thanks Nito! Overall, we would recommend this hike to anyone who wants to hike through the Andean mountains and see Machu Picchu. We will note the hiking days can be intense, as we hiked around 42km over the three days of hiking, with significant elevation gains. The views are worth it!
Loved this trek. I did two other treks with another company and really feel Action Peru delivered a better experience. And the other tour group is a major operator while Action Peru is smaller. So pros and cons. - well organized. Even though the before trek emails were not as timely as I would have liked, they were accurate. I also changed what I was doing in that I only did the Ancaschocha portion of the trek and Roxner was great at adjusting my schedule accordingly. - great guide. Christian was terrific. I struggle on the uphill due to lung issues. I am strong on the downhill. He really supported me and those who were struggling on the uphill and really made sure the pace supported us. He also was very knowledgeable and shared a lot with us. - excellent equipment. Loved the tent, sleeping bag, mattresses and the liner. The liner was fleece and really was great at helping to keep me warm. - crew worked hard and never complained. Cook worked hard to provide gluten free options. Cons - none of significance. Well maybe a different toilet when we weren’t on farms. Was a really great experience.
The views were amazing since day one, there were so many different landscapes (jungle, alpines, green fields and more). The people working in the company were amazing. It was really nice to do the trek with someone that is from the area (Eddie), he even took us to his village and showed us his home and family. Also it was nice being part of the ritual and offering that he did to his Gods to thank them for keeping us safe on the mountains once we crossed the highest pass. The food was really good and the tents were nice and comfortable. The guide Nilton was very friendly too and made sure we were having a good time explaining the plants, fruits and places we were passing by during the trek.
Everything about this tour was amazing!! The company was very organized and there were no complications or confusions. There was a great variety of landscapes and stunning views every moment of the journey! It is a great mix of terrain, steep ups and downs, soft grass, stones, dirt path etc. Eddie and Nilton were spectacular guides who made the journey very special. Eddie is from the area and knows so much, we even stopped at his family’s home to say hello. Both guys were not just guides for the trek, they educated us on their culture, beliefs, customs, history, etc. They were very knowledgable and you could see their passion and love for nature and trekking. Along the way they identified all sorts of plants, fruits, flowers, etc and explained what they’re used for. They always remained positive and encouraged us during tough parts of the trek and then congratulated us once we got through those tough parts. They respected our pace and never rushed us. The camping was spectacular!! We camped in such beautiful spots, always along a water source so you had the sound of a river to fall asleep to. The tents were large, sturdy and comfortable. It rained for a couple hours one night and no water entered the tent. The sleeping bag, mattress and pillow were perfect for staying warm and comfortable, but do pack layers as the nights are cold. The star gazing was spectacular too! The chef and horseman were also great! They were always smiling and working hard. All meals were amazing with a mix of all food groups. It was nice to try some of the local dishes! There was no shortage of food and snacks were given in the morning for the trek. Boiled water was provided at every meal so you can refill your water bottles. They use horses to bring stuff along, but they definitely do not overpack each horse which was nice to see. Our trip for example was 3 guests, 2 guides and 3 other staff and they had 5 horses to carry everything. The horses were well fed and treated well. Overall I would recommend this trek and company if you want a truly unique experience. During the trek we barely saw anyone else, so it was just us and nature. The night in Aguas Calientes is nice and Machu Picchu day of course is spectacular!
My friend and I went on the Ancascocha trek 4D/3N to Machu Picchu with the best Tourguide in Peru, Lino. We had an amazing time, and really got into nature. We saw the most beautiful views of mountains, waterfalls, inka ruins and glaciers. The trek was hard, but worth every drop of sweat. Lino was the perfect guide as you could feel he was very passionate about his job and he could teach us a lot about the inka kingdom, the mountains and the Andean people. And he liked UNO flip:)) Furthermore, we had an amazing crew with us that made sure the tents were in place, our duffels got carried up the mountains and the food was really good, thanks to Joel, the chef.
We had a great trek with Lina as our guide, along with Oskar and Elsa who cared for the horses/mules, and Eliquin and Joel who were our cooks! We did a private 5d/4d Ancascocha trek combined with train to Machu Pichu. We had originally booked a classic Inca trail trek, but mudslides closed the trail. Action Trek Peru was great about contacting us when the government extended the trail closure to give us options to rebook or switch to another trek and I am so glad we did! Beautiful remote mountain passes, traditional small pueblos. There were some sections with phenomenal views that skirt along the edge of the mountain that were challenging if you have a fear of heights. We had our 4 kids with us, and the team was amazing at making it a positive experience for them as well. Especially with this being a harder trek than we initially planned. Oskar and Elsa led two of them on a horse for a couple of the long uphills at altitude when they were tired, and Joel even carried one of them on his shoulders at the end our longest day when we were at risk of not making it to camp by sunset. Would book with them again.
Our experience on the Ancascocha trek was AMAZING! We booked this trip through Action Peru and they were very professional. The trek passes many Inca ruins, small villages, lakes and also offers a trek in one small portion of the Classic Inca Trail to Machu Picchu. This is definitely one of the best treks to do in Peru and still off the beaten path. Our guide was Christian and he was brilliant. We loved our experience with this company!!
My family and I trekked the 5 day Ancascocha trek with Action Peru Treks and it was absolutely amazing. Our guide, Chef and horseman were phenomenal. The hike was a little challenging but the team of Action Peru made our experience comfortable and enjoyable.
Thank you for ActionTrekPeru for providing this team of Edison the guide, Oscar the 19 year old horseman and Super Mario the Chef! They took care of me the entire time. Edison helped and adjusted according to my skill level. The rest of the team made sure I was taken care of and nourished. A perfect combo. This company whole heartedly treats their team right. I had the pleasure to have some time with their boss Roxner who might be one of the only owners who speaks the native tongue of Quechua. This provides a deeper connection to the Andean people that works for him. He believes treating his employees like family and that’s a philosophy I can always support.
Incredible experience, thanks to Action Peru Treks! Their well-organized tour, friendly guides, and breathtaking Inca Trail trek made the trip unforgettable. I'd recommend them to anyone seeking an authentic Peruvian adventure.
The whole experience was amazing. We were looking for serenity, adventure and spirituality and the tour provided all in spades. Everything worked out like clockwork. We are better while trekking than when we were in Cusco. I will be back next year for another trek, likely Salkantay, and I would highly recommend this company to anyone visiting Peru!
Our group of 4 friends completed the 4 day Classic Inca Trail with Action Peru Treks. We had our guide Lino, two chefs and 7 porters accompany us throughout the 4 days. Lino our guide was amazing. He was extremely passionate and shared so much information about the Incan culture with us throughout the hike. Every meal he would sit with us and tell us stories and play cards. It genuinely felt like a family towards the end of the trip. The two chefs surprised us each and every meal, serving buffet style traditional Peruvian food which were not only delicious, but also impressive that we could be eating these amazing meals while camping in the mountains. All the porters who accompanied us were extremely helpful and nice. The feat of hiking up those mountains with 25kg on their backs is truly impressive, topped only by the fact that they did it all with a smile on their faces. This trip was genuinely so much more than we could have imagined and we wanted to give a massive thank you to Lino and the rest of the team at Action Peru Treks. Cannot recommend this company enough. They are locally owned and operated and really put porter wellbeing, health and safety front of mind and focus on allowing participants to really immerse themselves in the Incan culture. Cannot wait to book another trip with them soon!!
I went back to Perú recently for business and I also opted to hike again to Machu Picchu via the Ancacsocha Trail which is a wild area above the Sacred Valley of the Incas. This is an amazing Trail but also a very demanding trek due to the altitude. Thank you Action Perú Team for great second experience in Perú 🙂
Hi, I feel obliged to share my thoughts about my experience. So others can make the right decision too. We decided to do the 4 days Classic Inka Trail with Action Peru Treks based on a recommendation and some research. We did the Classic 4 Inka Trail as part of our longer 17 days visit in Peru and were completely inexperienced in the topic - as I imagine most of you are. We had a lot of questions and doubts. I recommend you to reach out to them with any doubts you have they are very responsive and super helpful. Their website is also very informative. So let's see what the experience is like. We had a briefing just the day before we started the trek. Edison, one of our two great guides, came to our hotel to talk us through what to expect. He's very knowledgeable, helpful and has a warm personality. We had a good chat about all important things and left no question unanswered. Our excitement grew even more. We knew we were in good hands. They picked us up on time with a few more guys (we already knew who was coming with us (10 ppl all together) so it was no surprise either. The great journey began. Throughout the whole 4 days Christian And Edi were always around to tell us some stories about the sites we visit, the nature around us, the Quechua culture, or even their own life that came into the topic. They all did their best to make our journey through this unbelievably wonderful and challenging trip. For me and one of my friends day-two (climbing up to Dead Woman's pass) was very hard but hey didn't give up on us. Both helped us to best ourselves and stay safe. Thanks for that again guys! The rest of the journey - for me - was just a joy. We had a lot of fun, deep talks and lots of jokes with the guys. And I'm very grateful to Christian for making our trip such an experience. But of course the whole company did a brilliant job to support and pamper us. I have to say we became friends with Christian Peña our lead guide. Such a great guy! :) I can't recommend them enough! Guys, Action Peru Treks is an amazing choice! Thank you guys a lot! :)
Action Peru Treks has it dialed in! We showed up not really knowing what to expect and they treated us like royalty. In my opinion, the guides make the experience, and Christian and Eddy did an amazing job connecting with each guest, sharing insightful history about the trail, and also cracking jokes with all of us along the way. Everyone in our 11-person group (8 of the people I did not know) had a smile on their face the whole time and we were all so sad to leave once it was over. Would highly recommend choosing Action Peru Treks.
The 4 day 3 night trek to Machu Picchu with Action Peru was an amazing experience, I wouldn’t go with any other tour group if I were to do it again. I don’t think there would have been any better tour guides than Lino and Ed for my group. They were cool, extremely knowledgeable, and matched our crew’s energy. They know all the best spots to rest, use the bathroom, and take photos. Our guides made our trek feel one of a kind. The cooks far exceeded our expectations. They cooked 5-6 course meals for every meal. I legit had one of the best guacamoles in my life. I saw some of the meals the other tour companies were eating and just by looking I could tell that ours were the best! Super impressive considering all of it was cooked in a portable kitchen with limited resources. I couldn’t cook better than them even with a fully stock professional kitchen. The porters put the team on their back… literally. Seeing them pass us on the trails while hauling all of the camping equipment and gear was a sight to see. I have so much respect for them. Helpful tips: bring more toilet paper than you need, wet wipes, small towels, water proof shells, and acclimate in cusco for a few days. Oh yeah, most of the bathrooms on the trail are not great to say the least. Lotta porcelain holes in the floor. Full squat and aim well so your poop goes directly in the hole and open the stall door and take a step out before you flush… the water gets everywhere… and I mean everywhere. All in all, I highly recommend going through Action Peru for the Machu Picchu trek. This tour company supports a lot of the local communities. For example, they’ll use ingredients from the local farms for our meals. Also, one of our guides said that this company supports their workers moreso than the others. Like they’ll provide support for their workers’ education.
My group had a great time on our 4 day, 3 night Inca Trail trek. The tour guides were great (Lino and Eddie were both fantastic guides), and made sure we had everything we needed to be comfortable and successful on our trek. In addition, the food was great at every meal, and the porters were friendly and much much much faster than us. They also boiled water for us throughout the trip, so you don’t need a filter/iodine. It’s definitely worth bringing a rain jacket AND poncho, as our group encountered a bit of rainy weather. I would also recommend bringing a few of your own snacks, a pillowcase, bug spray, and trekking poles. The altitude can be killer, so it’s also worth arriving in Cusco a few days before your trek. There are a lot of restrooms along the way, but you’ll need your own toilet paper and hand sanitizer.
Overall one of the best experiences of my life. Guides and porters were top tier. The food was amazing and everything was taken care of. 10/10 would recommend
I went on the 4 day Incan trail trek with a group of 10 people and we had an incredible time! The crew that helped us along the way were incredibly nice and hard working. Lino and Eddie were our guides and they were so knowledgeable about all the Incan sites. The porters worked very hard to make sure that we were always comfortable at our site. The chefs were amazing and provided us with 3 course meals for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Overall I would highly recommend this experience to anyone interested in taking the long route to Machu Picchu. It was a tough trek but the payoff was worth it at the end. Some tips for your trip: be sure to book a hotel that will hold your large luggage during the trek. Bring a raincoat, a poncho (with arms), extra socks, bug spray, extra toilet paper, wet wipes, hiking poles, and sturdy boots. I also recommend getting to Cusco a few days early so you have some time to acclimate. Sleeping bags and small pillows are extra cost but a sleeping pad is provided. Practice “Asian squatting” to use the in-ground toilets. Pack extra snacks for all days (Action provided meals and small snacks but you’ll probably need more). Action also provided a duffle bag during your orientation that you can pack with 5kg of your personal belongings. Bring some cash for tipping the porters, chefs, and your guides.
Did a four day hike along the Incan Trail to Machu Picchu with 9 friends. Our tour guides Lino and Eddie were very knowledgeable of the trail and ruins we saw along the way. They made the trek very fun and a great experience! Also shout out to the porters and chefs. Our campsites were always set up when we arrived and the food was amazing!
We couldn’t be more happy with the service and the trip. Our guide Lino was very helpfull and funny. He taught us a lot. The cooks valerio and mario made very good food and were really nice. We had some unpredicted events but the staff did everything they could to make the trip good. This is the most incredible nature experience we’ve ever had. Thank you for having us!
I traveled to Peru with a friend and we both did the 4D/3N Inca Trail Trek with Action. We can’t recommend this enough. Lino, our tour guide was incredibly knowledgeable about Inca history and even gave us some tips for Cusco afterwards. The journey was difficult but rewarding and the service we had from Action was stellar. Despite hiking through mountains and the jungle, we had delicious food at every meal. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this company to anyone who is interested in doing the Inca Trail. One other awesome touch is that the owner, Roxner, takes part of the profits and reinvests them into local villages with the goal of creating better education systems. If you want to support a company who is trying to do good and help the citizens of Peru, this is your company.
Totally recommend Action Peru Tracks, we had a great experience doing the Inca trail to MachuPicchu and the best team ever. Our guide, Christian is a great guy, he knows a lot about the history, flora and fauna of the place and he improved our knowledge with lots of interesting and inteligent facts and beside that he is also a friendly and a funny person. We had best food ever and never got hungry, the chef is amazing preparing lots of things and always something else, as for the carriers they are super hard working and deserve all the appreciation, preparing everything for us and taking care of every small detail. We have no complaint but only good things to say and totally recommend Action Peru Tracks!
The whole thing was incredible. The views are unmatched. The trail was very difficult but I am so glad we did the longer trek as opposed to the two-day one; we saw so much more! The porters worked so hard to carry our things, set up camp and make us comfortable. The food was delicious, plentiful, and creative and the chef made sure to accommodate a vegetarian diet and even made me separate plates! Our guide was kind, knowledgeable, and passionate about the history of the Incan trail. I cannot say enough good things.
This trip was beyond amazing! Definitely worth doing the long trek on the Inca trail (if you’re somewhat fit). The porters, chef, and our guide Lino were excellent!! They took the best care of us, the food they prepare for you are amazing three course meals- they accommodate generously for people with special diets like vegetarians. Lino provided so much information throughout the tour, and made sure we were comfortable and had everything we needed the whole time. I also like how small our group was compared to the other groups we saw passing. I highly recommend using this group to explore Machu Picchu or the other excursions that they offer!
This experience was absolutely amazing. The entire team we traveled with, tour guide, porters, and chefs, was absolutely incredible. I didn't have a lot of expectations going in but they blew me away. The tour guide knew everything there was to know about the trail and the history, the porters worked so hard and had big smiles the whole way, and the chef did an absolutely amazing job with our food restrictions and pushed out three course meals each meal every day. I highly recommend this company if you're looking for a personal and wonderful experience.
A once in a lifetime experience that I plan on doing again!!! Thanks to Action Peru Treks for making this possible. First class guides, porters, chefs and service. Freddy, Judy and Valerio kept us safe on the trail while providing us in-depth knowledge about the trail and Incan/Peruvian culture. It was great getting to know more about them and letting them learn about our family and friends. If you're looking for any sort of adventure while in Peru. Action Peru Treks is the best option for you.
First thank you for the opportunity to see the Inca Trail up up close, aside from the fact the trail was absolutely challenging and not comparable to any trail I have walked before. The scenery and the history was excellent. From the beginning to the end this agency was super responsive and made every step very easy and worked free. The guides were outstanding. Lino, Edi, Mari made the experience super enjoyable, they were extremely organized and helped us all the way. Valerio, the chef and his crew, prepared the most delicious meals every day like if we were eating in a five star restaurant. The porters waited for us at every camp with everything set up, and they were also cheering us to keep going. They were very polite and helpful. We look forward to the next trip with Action Peru Trek!
Everything: The personal service and care that we received from our tour guides Lino, Edison and Mariluz was exceptional. Chef Valerio and chef assistant Mario prepared for us delicious food that were not expecting in this type of trek. And the hard work from the porters, who eveytime we reach the camp area welcomed us with happiness and cheers were moving. It was a great experience!
I have nothing but praise for Action Peru Treks. My husband and I planned a last minute trek. We were in Peru working and wanted to do a trek, but we weren't sure our schedules would allow for it. We found out 3 weeks prior that we had time and contacted every company we could. Action Peru Treks was the ONLY company able to accommodate our very tight schedule - the others were not very helpful. However, since we booked so late, there were no additional passes for the Inca Trail. We read that the Ancascocha Trek was a top 20 hike in the world by National Geographic, so we decided to book this trek. I wouldn't change a thing, and I actually don't know if I would have opted for the Inca Trail if it was available. On the Ancascocha Trek, you hardly see any other hikers on the trail - you almost have it to yourself. It feels so unique and untouched. This trail does meet up with the Inca Trail on the last day, and we could see the difference - tons of traffic, trekkers everywhere - it didn't feel as intimate and unique. While we are still curious about the Inca Trail and may do it in the future to say we did, I think when we do compare the two we will prefer Ancascocha. Our guide Lino was amazing. I wish I had his energy! He was so professional, knowledgable about the Inca culture, personable, and careful with how hard he pushed us. When we parted ways at the train station the last day, it was like we were saying goodbye to an old friend, and it was sad for both my husband and I.
Where do I begin.. absolutely incredible trip and incredible and of course an incredible guide service. We chose this agency for our honeymoon trip and they truly made it special. Their guide Christian was very entertaining, professional, and someone who is an instant friend. The porters are beyond skilled at what they do. Together they all make the trip worry free. Lastly the food is the best food I had the entire time I was in Peru.. and we were out in the wilderness. It blows my mind how they can make such specialty cuisines in such a remote environment
Wow! What an amazing and unforgettable experience. Christian was knowledgeable and made the trek fun
This was my second trip with Roxner and the Action Peru Treks team. I have no doubt we will do a third. I took my 17yo son to hike the Ancascocha Trek to Machu Picchu via Salkantay – 5D/4N. We had a fantastic journey at high elevations that was physically challenging but incredibly rewarding. We crossed 15,000' over 8 times and 16,000' once as we trekked for the first 3 days over 13,000'. The mountains (can you get enough of Salkantay?) and passes and valleys are an order of magnitude bigger and more majestic than even in our home state of Colorado. The Action Peru Treks team was fabulous. Ronnie, our guide, maintained a good pace for us and provided a lot of history and cultural insights as we trekked through territory that is populated by very small farms and ranches and trails that are used by horses and mules to carry goods to and from market. Similarly, Ronnie's guidance through Machu Micchu was full of history and insight into the lives of the people who built that marvelous place. The food was incredible. We were well fed by a culinary school graduate who clearly put thought into the menus and care into the meal preparation. The other services, such as setting up and breaking down camp were similarly carried out with expertise and professionalism and were necessary for us to be able to hike the distances at the elevations we did. I can't say enough good things about Roxner, Ronnie, and Action Peru Treks. I count them among my friends and am delighted to recommend them. Going to Peru and to Machu Picchu are bucket list items. Action Peru Treks makes it easy, enjoyable, and fun. You will have an amazing experience!
We did the 4D/3N Inca trail with Action Peru Trek that exceeded all our expectations. Our guide Dario was both very knowledgeable and a really fun person to spend 4 days with. The food was terrific and every meal was unique. The porters were engaging and the entire experience was very professional and comfortable. Highly recommend booking with Action Peru Treks and you will not be disappointed in the service!
It was an amazing experience and the organization was perfect. The porters were really incredible and when we arrived at our campsite everything was always prepared including excellent food. We were experiencing the most comfortable days during our four months trips in the middle of nowhere.Covid didn't make any troubles to come to Peru it was really easy. We had no quarantine and the negative tests were very easy to get, the staff was very careful and we had not even to be worried about Covid 19 for one second!
We have just concluded our 4 day Ancascocha Trek with Action Peru Treks and we had a great experience with this local company. Our experience started with our first email and finished with our great guide Rox. He was an amazing tour guide during our 4 day trek and I would highly recommend him and his crew.
My husband and I did the trek 11/2019. Our guide, Lizandro and his team did an amazing job. The food was AMAZING! The hike was much harder than I anticipated, but the crew was patient and helpful even when I got sick. Lizandro did a great job coming up with an alternate of activities when we decided I couldn’t finish the hike due to altitude sickness. I would do it all over again.
I wish I could rate this a million out of 5 because this trip was truly amazing. I went on this hike 2 years ago, and I still remember every detail. Action Peru Treks went above and beyond in every way. Tour Guide: I think a tour guide can make or break a trip, and ours was SO GOOD. He was extremely knowledgable and could answer every question we threw at him. He was hilarious and messed with us by joking that we had to get up at 2am the next day and stuff like that. Lastly, he was very down-to-earth and authentic. He told us about his life outside of his work as a tour guide, and when talking with him, it felt more like talking to a friend than a tour guide. If you are concerned about your lack of hiking/camping experience, don't be. Our hiking group had a wide range of experience and age (12-50+), but the tour guide was very aware of who needed the most support and guidance along the trail and would help them every step of the way. Food: It was my birthday on the first day of the hike, and the cooks somehow managed to bake me an entire birthday cake! I was definitely not expecting that in the middle of a four-day hike! Besides the cake, the food was incredible. It was delicious, nutritious, and honestly beautiful - they literally carved fruits and vegetables into birds and other animals. Service: Wow. Although this trail is very difficult, we were honestly glamping. The porters set up our tents before we arrived, carried most of our belongings, and served us coca leaf tea in the mornings. They were all extremely respectful and polite. Summary: I came into this experience with high expectations and they were 100% met. If you are going to try the experience of hiking to Machu Picchu, do it with Action Peru Treks and I swear you won't be disappointed.
My wife and I did the Ancoscocha Trek with Action Peru in Sept 2018. Action Peru handled all arrangements efficiently and professionally. Our guide Christian was excellent and the support team was fantastic. They took care of all the details, preparing great meals and getting camp setup and broken down efficiently three times per day so we could enjoy the trekking. Can't say enough good things about the crew who took care of us during this trek. Scenery was stunning and hope to do the same trek again some day.
This review is for the 4 day/3 night Ancascocha trek with Action Peru Treks. I originally wanted to do the original Inca trail to Machu Picchu but am incredibly glad that we decided to do Ancascocha instead. This trek will take you on the Ancascocha trail for the first two days and then back along the beginning of the Inca trail on the third day and a train ride to the city by Machu Picchu. On the 4th day, you take a bus up to Machu Picchu to sightsee. So instead of hiking the Inca trail to end up at Machu Picchu, this takes you over a different part of the area. The biggest reason why I loved this trek was that we were quite literally the only trekkers on the trail for the first two days. It was amazing to walk through the untouched lands, except for the people who live there. It felt as though we were exploring a land that very few people have crossed. Contrasting that with the Inca trail where we passed by tons of trekkers and porters along the way and it felt so much more crowded. Odon, our guide, was exemplary. He knew so much about the area and its history. He knew all of the people who lived along the trail. His knowledge and wisdom felt unparalleled as a guide. Plus he has a great sense of humor and we got to joking a bunch along the way, which made the high-altitude trekking more bearable. Also he knows at a glance whether you will be able to make it through the high-altitude portions or if you will need assistance on the horse. After having done other treks with other guides, I’ve come to realize how special Odon is. Can’t say enough about him, he’s like the fun uncle in your family. If you’re wondering about doing this trek, stop wondering and just do it. You won’t regret it.
As a very inexperienced camper and average level hiker, I was blown away at how prepared and organized our team was to support my girlfriend and I as we embarked on the 5 day / 4 night Ancascocha Trek to Machu Picchu. The hiking was extremely off the beaten path and very challenging, but rewarding. Our guide Hipolito was top notch! His knowledge of the Inca civilization and all the historical sites we encountered along the way made the trip so much more interesting and worthwhile. Definitely recommend him to be your guide! The rest of the team was equally amazing and worked to provide us with delicious multi-course meals 3x per day, and got us organized so that our main focus was trekking and having an amazing trip. We're grateful we came across Action Peru Treks to lead us on this journey of a lifetime and without a doubt would recommend them to anyone whose looking for an Peruvian trekking adventure.
I did the 4 day/3 night Ancascocha trek and it was absolutely stunning, so glad I did it! The scenery was spectacular with dramatic mountains and valleys, and we passed through several Incan ruins and small Quechua-speaking communities along the way. The Action Peru Treks staff were also great and made me feel very well taken care of. Our guide, Odón, was very experienced and could predict the weather and our hiking times with spooky accuracy. Pretty much every meal had multiple courses! Would highly recommend!
My friends and I had determined that we wanted to hike to Machu Picchu. At the time, we discovered we were too late to do the Inca Trail (permits already sold out) - so we did a deep dive into research on an alternate route. Action Peru Treks was great at helping us navigate what could be the best for us, ultimately we chose Ancaschocha and truly wouldn't of had it any other way. We met the team upon arrival for our on-boarding, and immediately felt we had picked the right spot. Our tour guide was Odon, and he was perfect fit for us - warm and welcoming with a great sense of humor, which eased our nerves. A few days later, we were off! The hike itself was challenging given the length, incline and altitude but it was a great fit for our group of friends (5 of us, all in our mid-30s). This trail brings you through very remote parts and we actually never ran into other groups, only locals with the exception of when you arrive to the Inca Trail. Truly, can't recommend this trail and Action Peru Treks enough here were some highlights: - The food: We were blown away at how delicious the food was on the journey. We were expecting packed sandwiches and nothing to write home about, but instead each meal was multiple courses utilizing items that were sourced along the trail. - The accommodations: We were excited to camp, but also so thankful that all the camp set up was handled for us. After hiking multiple miles a day, we were very grateful to have a tent all ready! We went end of June/early July and the evenings were quite chilly, so each night and morning they would boil hot water for us to help keep warm! - The service: The team both on the trek and pre-trek were incredibly helpful. Roxner responded to ALL our questions (we had lots of them) and was quick to do so, which made choosing them a no-brainer. On the trek, we felt very taken care of at all times. - The sights: You get to see so many things on the journey from glaciers to waterfalls to small towns. Be prepared to snap photos -- though truthfully, we found our phones worked just fine vs. having to bring a fancy camera and was much easier to grab vs. having to pull out of your pack each time. The only items of caution or what we would of done differently are below: - We had 1.5 days to acclimate before we started, we would of added one more day. Thankfully, no one in our group got sick but first day breathing wise was super challenging. - We wouldn't of upgraded our hotel accommodations at Machu Picchu, but just would of more mentally prepared that you likely aren't going to get that luxurious shower you are likely dreaming of. - We would of added another night and camped for 3 or even 4 nights vs. 2 nights camping. This was our first time doing this type of experience and we wanted to make sure we had enough true vacation time after, but looking back we would of definitely done an even longer amount of time camping. Overall, amazing experience would 100% recommend Action Peru Treks to anyone looking for an unforgettable adventure!
My fiancé and I took the Action Peru Treks Ancascocha Trail hike. We kind of lucked into this hike since the Classic Inca Trail was booked solid. I would say that we were beyond lucky as this hike turned out to be more thrilling, more secluded (we literally saw no other tourists, only the indigenous farmers and residents as far as people go), far more majestic and truly a once in a lifetime hike. The landscape was ever changing as we ranged through the Andes covering 30 some miles in 3 days and gaining 5,000-6,000 feet in total. The finale was of course the unreal Machu Picchu. The staff at Action Peru Treks was incredibly professional from their pre hike orientation with Roxner to our guide Sabino who was knowledgeable, personable, friendly and funny. Sabino knew just the right measure of being a part of our hike, while at times giving the two of us distance while we walked so we could have some time to be together and enjoy private conversations. The chefs prepared unreal meals (3-4 courses at every turn) and the way we were treated at each camp truly made us feel like royalty. All in all, we would highly recommend the Ancascocha Trail and Action Peru Treks.
I am so glad I ended up on the Ancascocha trek with Action Peru Treks. Roxner took the time the day before to explain everything so that I would know what to expect. There were only two other people in my group but he took the extra time to brief us individually, making sure I was prepared and answering all my questions. Our tour leader, Ronald, was knowledgeable and solicitous and his love for the trails and the land is obvious. The trail was beautiful with breathtaking scenery and there was hardly anyone around unless you count llamas and alpacas! I could see the difference when we hit the Inca trail, which seemed like a chaotic zoo in comparison. It was fine though since we were motivated to reach our final destination! The food and porters were awesome. I'm so glad I could taste local dishes as the food in Peru is so amazingly good. The tents (including the toilet tent!) were comfy and welcome at the end of the day. I would call it glamping and we would even have 4-course meals and pre-dinner drinks. Everything was great, even my huffing and puffing up the mountain (in hindsight). The guide had some "llama pee" which helped with the altitude and which gave me a turbo boost. In response to my questions, Ronald also explained that he had worked for several companies for decades but that he liked the management and attitude of Action Peru Trek and their philosophy of giving back to the community. In case it's not clear, I would recommend them to anyone without hesitation and actually hope to join them again for one of their other original and attractive itineraries!
We had a near perfect experience with Action Peru Treks! This was my first multi-day, high altitude trek and it was incredibly challenging, however, I felt supported, safe, and encouraged the entire time. Our cook and assistant cook (Dino and Freddy, respectively) kept us well fed and went above and beyond to help us along the way. The each spent time back tracking to make sure we had everything we needed during the hike. Vidal, our horse leader, was efficient and skilled when it came to breaking down and setting up camp. My sister lost her hat on the first day and he offered one of his granddaughters baseball caps to her for the duration of the trip. Our guide, Hipolito, was an 11/10. His knowledge of the land, the agriculture, the Inca culture, the wildlife, etc never ceased to amaze me. We learned more than we could have hoped to over the course of 4 days. Polito kept us motivated and made us feel comfortable hiking at our pace. I cannot recommend him highly enough!
