I enjoy walking and exploring nature so I thought the tour would be fairly easy for me. The altitude made the tour more challenging than I expected and I had to slow down and take a few breaks. However the mountain scenery and beautiful lakes gave me reasons to keep going on the tour. I was glad I did not rush, because taking my time allowed me to appreciate the surroundings of focusing only on finishing the hike.

The 7 Lakes of Ausangate tour was one of the most beautiful journeys we had in Peru. The scenery throughout the journey was incredible with mountains, turquoise lakes and wide open valleys. Each lake had its own character and the views around Ausangate were spectacular. The day was long. We felt the beautiful landscapes made the journey completely worthwhile. The peaceful surroundings were also a change from the busier tourist areas, around Cusco.
The 7 Lakes of Ausangate tour was one of the most beautiful experiences in Peru. Each lake had its own unique color, surrounded by breathtaking mountain scenery. The views of the snow-capped peaks were unforgettable and made every step worthwhile.
If you enjoy raw, untouched nature, this tour is an excellent choice. Each of the seven lakes has its own unique shade and character, making every stop feel special. The reflections of the surrounding peaks in the crystal-clear water provide incredible photo opportunities, especially in the early morning light. The journey itself is just as rewarding as the destination.
I joined the 7 Lakes of Ausangate full-day tour from Cusco on my own, and it turned out to be a very rewarding experience. The natural beauty of the lakes and surrounding mountains is truly impressive, and each stop offered a unique view. The guide was supportive and made sure everyone felt comfortable throughout the journey. The group was friendly, which made it easy to connect with others even as a solo traveler. Everything was well organized, from transportation to meals, allowing me to focus on enjoying the day.
Leaving Cusco before sunrise wasn’t easy, but this turned into one of the best days of my trip. The experience felt authentic and far from the typical tourist route. The visit is long, but the scenery constantly changes, keeping it exciting. Crowd size was reasonable, and once hiking started, everyone found their own rhythm. The atmosphere was refreshing and peaceful. The staff handled everything smoothly and made the day feel safe and enjoyable. Admission fee felt justified for such a unique location.
Great views throughout the hike. There were not a lot of other people which made for a nice hike. As long as you have a sunny day, it’s well worth the $$. The ride to/from is quite twisty, so if you have motion sickness it’s best to take medicine with you. This is high elevation hiking, be prepared. Many opportunities for great photos.
What can I say that hasn’t already been mentioned in other reviews! We were lucky to go on a surprise private trip to the 7 Lakes of Ausangate with Anibal. He was fantastic; knowledgeable, humorous, well prepared and encouraging, we had a great day trekking the circuit in the mountains. Honestly can’t recommend this chap enough.
We have booked this because we like non crowded places, was the best desition we did, the place is amazing, we hiked over the 4500 metters over the sea level, our guide (Holger) took oxygen with him along the way for emerrgency cases (good that we didn't use it). The lakes are amazing, different colors in small space, we recommend this trip for all people who want to explor hidden gems while they are in Cusco. This company provided all necesary staff and very good advises. Note: the placew is new, then do not espect fancy restaurtants or exclusive toilets, bring some snacks and toilet paper!. Thanks for all the atentions Holger, we will be back some day !
The hike itself is amazing and I recommend anyone to do it. However the company overcharges for what they offer and does not do everything they say in the inclusions. This tour company is horrible. First, this trip was supposed to be done with my friend but I had to do it solo because they changed the times twice literally the night before the hike and we ended up leaving almost two hours after what was advertised. She could not make it because her schedule was already set up and had to leave Cusco. No refund was offered. When I was picked up, the driver did not speak any English and there was no guide for the four hour ride to Ausangate and back. Throughout this whole time we were in 1-2 degree Celsius in the van (30’s in Fahrenheit) and it was extremely cold. I asked the driver if there was a heater and he said it only worked in the front (him) and not for the whole van. In one of the stops we had for a bathroom break I asked him where I can find the bathroom and he just said go straight in an annoyed manner. When we got to Ausangate we were fed cold bread with butter, strawberry jam, and one egg. I asked for another egg since I don’t eat jam nor strawberry and was denied. To someone else they told them it would cost them 5 soles. While there another group from another van joined our group so the tour was actually 24 people total and our tour guide was not a professional tour guide but more someone that knows the area and took us from lake to lake. When I asked him why the lakes were the color they were, he didn’t know how to answer. When others asked for further explanation he said it was the minerals and the rocks and to keep walking. At the end I made some friends in the tour and we ended up doing the hike alone. They told me that they waited for the van in the morning for over an hour because they were never told about the schedule change for pick up. The hike and the views were truly amazing! I would do this hike over and over again just not with this company. I also found out that what I paid 80 dollars for, they paid 80 soles for. If I would have paid 80 soles for the hike then I would understand these services but that was not the case. The guide also did not carry an oxygen tank as advertised and one of the girls from the group had altitude sickness and he did nothing. She struggled throughout the whole way and nothing was given to her. For lunch they gave us a tasty soup but the main course was cold and dried and I did not eat it as the chicken leg was very hard to cut and chew. On the way back to Cusco, the girl that was sick threw up in the van and again there was no tour guide and the driver just stopped so she could throw up outside. This tour company also advertised that we would be dropped off at the hotel. The driver dropped us off on the back of the plaza de armas and said that was the last stop and for everyone to get out. Again, the hike is amazing but I highly suggest to pick another tour company.
I went to Ausangate lakes because a girl on our tour to Machu Picchu recommended it. we had a great guide, Romario and a very safe driver!. The place is literally a breathtaking place, i can not imagen how the nature can create such amazing places. there are many colors lakes, Green, blue, yellow etc, I do not understand how is that this place don't have visitors yet. vere recomendable, is a moderate level hike, I joined a group while my parents took a tour to the salt mines in Cusco. If you are looking for a nice hike, DO IT!
I got the recomentation to visit this area of Cusco, Wow!! was one of the best things i have made in Cusco untill right now ! The hiking point is like 4 hours away from cusco in an small town with hot springs !. On the first part of the hike you can see llamas, alpacas and local people, but the most impresive thing are the lakes !.. they have lakes with different colors !! . Our Guide Nestor told us that the colors comes from the minerals, some lakes are yellow, some others are blue, There a black one ! . I got very suprised because of this ! . Something that you must do in Cusco, There are no big groups of tourists! our group was with only 4 people!.. Amizing !. Note: Bring some extra snacks no stores along the way ! great job from this tour operator !
This hike is one of our hightlights on our trip in Perú. We started the hike in an small andean village "Pachata" the people who lives there are very welcoming and friendly, our guide Julian gave is a very nice experience, our group was named the Wild Pumas, we were 5 wild pumas on the trek that conquered the 7 lakes of ausangate. Is amazing how in that full day hike you can see lakes with different colors because the minerals of the andes, We saw an orange, red, yellow, blue, black and sky blue lakes ! We saw only one other group along the way, then this place is like a hidden gem operated by only a few companys in Cusco. We recommend to bring extra water and sunscream.
The lakes and nature are an amazing experience, but the price is very expensive for the service; the operator don’t take biosafety rules before take the bus; the meal alpaca was so hard to eat, they don’t have protocols for accidents
Wowzers! I went to on Humantay Lake and Rainbow Mountain tours and this 7 Lakes trek surpassed all of that for me! First of all the tour guide, a short Andean man who's name i unfortunately can't remember was AMAZING. He told us all about the animals, bugs, plants we saw along the way and sort of took us off the beaten path. He also paced us so we wouldn't get sick or winded. He was so patient, kind, inquisitive and personable, asking real questions about my culture, family, and country. 1000% recommend. The tour guide plus the landscape itself all get a giant A+. The lanscape of 7 Lakes is like something from Lord of the Rings. I felt like I was walking to Rohan lol.
Breathtaking day hike in Cusco, We were wondering to go to the Humantay lake but the company told us that the Humantay lake is closed, then they told us to go to the alternative "7 lakes of ausangate tour, we took the recomendation and went to the Ausangate lakes, maybe one of the best decitions on our trip to Peru, the van ride was around 4 hours, we arrived to a little local town where we took the breakfast and star the hike, even of the rainy season we got lucky and had exellent weather during the hike. We experienced a little bit of altitude sickness but the guide of the group provided us some oxygen. (thanks so much to our guide Jhonatan) The views during the hike are amazing, but the hike become a life experience once you arrive to the highest point, you can see a couple of turquoise lagoons and near them, you can see a yellow lagoon, is was incredible, but that is not all, on the way back we saw a big orange lagoon, a green lagoon and a black lagoon... is just something from another world to see such many lagoons with different colors! a lifetime experience !! something that we noticed is that the tourism is very new on the route, then there are not excellent restaurants, We would recommend to bring some snacks with you in case you would not like the traditional food they serve on the local restaurants. The company, excellent, the guide was amazing, the driver very safe. We recomend to do this tour at 100%
We went on a private tour, our guide was Fredy, the transfer from Cusco to Pacchanta is around 3.5 hours, quite far on my opinion, at the beggining I was quite worried because the time on the van wsa to much, but once we arrive to Pacchant, a very cold air make us to wake up, and our guide was having a box breakfast with coffe, huao !! it was something that gave us energy to start with the hike, after the breakfast. the hike is over the 4300 metters over the sea level, it i uphill, if you are on good conditions, you wont have problems. After 1 hour of hike, you see the first lagoon, I was thinking that was nothing speciall, but 30 minutes later, we saw 2 tourquise lagoons, they were mazing, but that is not all, we saw carefully again and we saw other small yellow lagoon, it was very nice to see them and to rest having some snacks. Later, we passed an small mountain and we saw on the way back another lagoons, one orange and another green. Finally we arrived to Pacchanta, took a box Lunch and return to Cusco. (arrived to Cusco around 19:30) the hike is amazing, we saw lagoons of different colors in one day. the hike is exahusting, but worth it !. We took this instead the Humantay Lake, I thing we did the correct.
It is a tiring walk, although not very large the altitude leaves us very tired. The arrival to the 1st Laguna seems never to arrive and is quite exhausting, but the beauty of the lagoons is incredible and only gets more beautiful. When you reach the last lagoon the beauty is indescribable.
An excellent option is to exchange the Tour of Laguna Humantay for 7 Lagoons, we climbed it on horseback who were guided by the people of the village with their typical costumes, the ever attentive guide of those who were walking as if on horseback breakfast and lunch good and abundant the fascinating views of the APU Absangante without words and the 7 spectacular lagoons
Even with rain, getting up there and seeing the lagoons is indescribable! It's a wonderful view!!! They are 6km of climb (I found it very heavy to do, even more with rain) and return after more these 6km seemed endless... but every perrengue of the trail is worth the time to see the Lagunas! I just did not appreciate with maximum score for breakfast and lunch that include in these whole day tours, need to improve much the part of food!
It is an incredible place with a lot of magic and mysticism for the locals, the smallest and deepest lagoon represents a spiritual place to the guides, there they stop in prayer. I recommend that you hire the packages in Cusco, you will save up to 50% of the cost offered on sites like Tripadvisor
This is a hidden gem of Cusco, this year because of the pandemic we could not go with my friend to the Humantay lagoon, then we were offered to go to the lagoons of Ausangate, after some doubts and consultations we decided to take the tour, perhaps one of the best decisions we made. We took a bus for 3 hours until we reached a very small and humble village named "Pachanta" or "Pacchanta" - here we took breakfast in a very basic but cozy restaurant, this route is new, then there were not many people, we started the walk with Julian our guide, it was arduous for 2 hours, but when we arrived we could see turquoise, yellow, orange .. it is amazing how you can have these colors of lagoons in such a short space and in front we had the snowy ausangate ... a real wonder, dare I say it is a top hike in cuckoo!
