We booked the 5-day Inca Trail Slow Version and were absolutely blown away by the entire experience! The trek itself was breathtaking, and everything was perfectly organised from start to finish. Our guide, David, was simply outstanding! He was incredibly knowledgeable, shared so many interesting stories and insights about the Inca history and culture, and always took the time to answer our questions. What we appreciated most was how he adapted everything to our pace and needs. We never felt rushed or pressured and could truly enjoy every moment of the journey. The food was another absolute highlight! Our chefs prepared incredibly delicious and varied meals every single day, even in the middle of the mountains. They also took great care of our dietary requirements, including vegetarian food, lactose intolerance and our preference for non-spicy meals. A huge thank you also to our four amazing porters! It was unbelievable how much they managed to carry and how efficiently they worked. Everything was always perfectly prepared, clean and organised. Their hard work and dedication truly impressed us. A massive thank you to Jaime, Jampol, Luis, Raul, Yo and David! 🙏 You made this adventure so special and unforgettable for us. We genuinely couldn’t have asked for a better experience. The best tour, the best crew and some of the best days of our entire trip! We would 100% recommend this experience to anyone considering the Inca Trail. Absolutely worth it! 🇵🇪🏔️

Itinerary
Day 1
1
Begin your adventure with an early departure from Cusco, driving through the Andean highlands with sweeping views of valleys.
Stop in Mollepata, a charming mountain town, to enjoy a traditional breakfast. Continue to Challacancha, where the trek officially begins.
Hike gradually uphill, until reaching the turquoise waters of Humantay Lake, set dramatically beneath glacial peaks.
After exploring and taking photos, descend to Soraypampa for a freshly prepared lunch. In the afternoon, continue uphill to the exclusive TreXperience Salkantay Mountain Glamping, located at 4,150 m.
Spend the evening enjoying a warm dinner, panoramic mountain views and a sky full of stars before resting in your tent.
Day 2
2
Wake up to the crisp mountain air with hot coca tea or coffee served at your tent. After breakfast, begin the steep ascent to Abra Salkantay.
The Abra Salkantay (4,630 m / 15,190 ft) is the trek’s highest point, where the landscapes of glaciers, rugged peaks, and turquoise lakes create an unforgettable scene. Spend time taking in the views. Continue with a long downhill trek, stopping in Wayracmachay for lunch.
Along the way, spot Andean wildlife such as vizcachas and falcons. After lunch, descend further as the landscape shifts from andean terrain to lush cloud forest, with waterfalls and warmer air. End the day at Colcapampa, where you’ll stay in rustic Andean huts and enjoy dinner surrounded by nature.
Day 3
3
Start the day with a hearty breakfast before trekking through the valley, crossing wooden bridges and passing small waterfalls and rivers. The warmer climate welcomes you with tropical plantations of granadilla, bananas and coca leaves.
Arrive at Lucmabamba, where a cultural experience awaits: participate in a Pachamanca barbecue, an ancient underground stone cooking tradition and visit an organic coffee farm. Learn how coffee is cultivated, roasted, and ground, before preparing your own fresh cup.
After lunch, begin a challenging but rewarding 3-hour climb along preserved Inca Trail paths leading to the Llactapata Archaeological Zone. From this remote site, enjoy one of the trek’s most special views: Machu Picchu in the distance across the valley. Camp here and watch the sunset over the mountains.
Day 4
4
Wake up with coffee or tea while admiring a spectacular sunrise over Machu Picchu. After breakfast, descend for about two hours through lush vegetation, spotting orchids, hummingbirds, and butterflies along the way, until reaching Hidroeléctrica
Here, enjoy a final meal with your trekking chef and say goodbye to the support team. Continue on foot along the railway tracks beside the Urubamba River for approximately three hours. Stop at Mandor, a historic site where Hiram Bingham was guided toward Machu Picchu in 1911, and explore its botanical gardens rich in orchids and birdlife, including the cock-of-the-rock
By late afternoon, arrive in Aguas Calientes, check into a comfortable 3 star hotel, and enjoy dinner at a local restaurant. Relax in the hot springs or explore the town before resting for the big day ahead.
Day 5
5
Rise early and take one of the first buses up to the Santuario Histórico de Machu Picchu (2,430 m / 7,972 ft).
Enter the citadel at sunrise for breathtaking views of its temples, terraces, and sacred plazas. Your guide will lead a 2–3 hour tour explaining the history and mysteries of this Inca masterpiece. If you pre-booked, hike Huayna Picchu or Machu Picchu Mountain for panoramic views of the citadel and surrounding valleys. After exploring, return to Aguas Calientes for lunch and to collect your belongings
Board the Vistadome Panoramic train to Ollantaytambo, enjoying stunning landscapes through wide glass windows.
From there, a private transfer returns you to Cusco, where your unforgettable Salkantay adventure comes to an end.

Reviews
I had an amazing experience. The trek itself was beautiful, discovering amazing nature : lake, glacier, rainforest, and ending with the breathtaking Machu Picchu. But the experience was even better thanks to our friendly guides (Gilbert and Balvin) and the brave and amazing staff (Leandro, Valeria, Ivan and Elvis) who worked hard in the shadows, preparing delicious food, carrying the equipment, setting up the tents, taking care of us down to the smallest detail. Thank you to all of you for these incredible 5 days !
The 5-day Salkantay Trek with TreXperience was a once-in-a-lifetime experience. It’s not always comfortable, but I’m very glad we did it. Highlights: Machu Picchu was amazing, though the crowds and theme-park feel of the entry took some of the shine off. The real surprises came earlier. Reaching the top of the Salkantay Pass felt like a genuine achievement, and later that day we went from snowy tundra at around 2°C to lush green jungle in the mid-20s, in what felt like a few hours. The views often felt like VR, except the world really can be that spectacular. And after four days of trekking, the first proper shower in comfortable accommodation was a well-earned treat. Disconnecting: One of the best parts is switching off from modern life. Mobile signal and WiFi are extremely limited. You can buy WiFi at the second night’s accommodation for 10 soles, though it isn’t fast. The fourth night is in a three-star hotel in Aguas Calientes, with readily available signal and WiFi, and after four days on the trail the hotel feels like a five-star reward. Know what you’re signing up for: The Salkantay is more comfortable than the Inca Trail, with only one night of proper camping. Even so, expect limited, basic facilities. You’ll come to appreciate a toilet with a seat, electricity and real privacy once you’re back. The people: Our guides, Filio and Evans, were knowledgeable, took safety very seriously and put the group’s experience first. We were lucky to have them. The group was great too, with time together and space to ourselves. The team behind the scenes deserves equal credit. Our belongings always arrived, and the hearty, delicious meals (breakfast, lunch and dinner) were a highlight. Altitude: Take it seriously. We spent 72 hours in Cusco beforehand, as advised. Some in our group really struggled. For us it felt like a mild hangover, with a headache and not feeling 100%, but we could power through. The difficulty: We were mostly worried about the hygiene facilities, and that was justified, but we should have thought harder about how tough the walking is. I’m very fit and train daily, my partner is less so, and we both struggled at points. Descents may sound like a chance to catch your breath, but they’re hard on knees and feet, which is a different kind of challenge. You need real hiking experience or a high level of fitness, plus a plan for the altitude. Tips: Tipping is described as never expected but always appreciated. In practice it leans towards being expected, so budget for it. TreXperience’s guidance was broadly accurate. Verdict: If you’ve always wanted to do this, do it. You might not want to do it again, but you’ll be glad you did.
I did the Salkantay Trek with Alex, Alberto, and Ramon. I’d like to thank them and highlight how hard they worked to make sure everything went perfectly, which it absolutely did. I was also impressed by their skills, professionalism, and friendliness. They are fantastic and have taken the company’s reputation to the highest level.
Really awesome tour! We did the 5-Day Salkantay Trek. Our tour guide, Fernando, was a really kind, funny guy and knew everything we asked him. He told us a lot about nature, Inka culture and history. The whole group with him felt more like a friends trip, which we all enjoyed. He also always informed us with the important details about our next steps, reminded us when necessary and made sure, we got the best experience possible. We never worried about our safety during the tour. We slept in Tipis, little huts and tents which were all comfortable and in good shape. The first night is very cold and we all got hot water bottles to put in our sleeping bag which at that point was the best to keep us warm and cozy. Every day, we got something different for breakfast, lunch and dinner, which was always top quality, very diverse and kept us full for the next hike. It's a mix of local, classic Peruvian good, with fresh ingredients and they also respected any dietary restrictions. It really felt like comfort food. Food was always ready when we arrived at the lunch spot or campsite. Big respect for the chef Fredy and his cooking staff. The Salkantay Trek is a great combination between nature, glacier views, jungle, Inka history, some challenging hikes and fun along the way. I really think we got the best guide and staff possible! The stay in Aguas Calientes was nice and comfortable, though the room in the hotel was next to the train tracks and quite loud. Machu Picchu was incredible to see. We got a 3 pm ticket for circuit 2, which is great because it is less busy then. Our guide, Roberto, knew a lot about the Inkas and also was happy to be our personal photographer. The only unfortunate thing was that our train was booked for 6:20 pm which meant we had ~2 hours for Machu Picchu itself, which is honestly quite short. Roberto made sure, we make it in time, but that meant we couldn't walk around the site by ourselves anymore. It would've been better to book a later train ticket, or recommend us to stay another night in Aguas Calientes, which would've been more enjoyable for us. We would have liked a more transparent communication from the office about the last day and the return to Cusco since we only got the details at the last day. If we had known more, we would've e.g. booked another night in Aguas Calientes or asked for a later train. Overall, the experience was much more and better than we expected. It felt very complete and like we got the best of everything. I would recommend the Salkantay Trek over the Inka trail for everone who enjoys the nature + Inka history combination and likes being physically active. The main tour guide Fernando, the chef Fredy and his cooking staff, as well as our guide in Machu Picchu Roberto are 11/10.
The overall experience was excellent. Starting with the conversation from the beginning until the very end the service and support was great. We booked the 5D/4N Salkantay Trek and expected a hike from A-B with campsites and simple food in between. What we got was way beyond our expectations. The briefing the day before was very detailed and a good point to get to know the group, which in our case was composed of 8 people, excluding the Guide. The tour itself was challenging but for an average sporty person doable. Even though the hike starts very high (acclimatization is absolutely necessary beforehand), our Tour guide, Fernando, did an outstanding job in keeping us safe and motivated. He always made sure that no one is left behind, all kinds of uncertainties, regarding the hike, the altitude or whatsoever were enlightened and answered and didn’t matter what kind of question you had, he answered them professionally and always with a story behind. Doesn’t matter if it’s a question regarding inka history, the mountains or the nature and wildlife itself. Fernando made sure we had the experience of our lives, from the briefing until the very end. During the hike we slept in Tipi-tents, Andean huts, a normal tent and a hotel. All three accommodations were above what we expected and in a good shape. The amenities on the campsites were always satisfactory and matched the humans needs. Regarding the food that was provided, the chef, Fredy, and his assistants made sure our expectations were blown away. Everyday we got breakfast, lunch and dinner. Those meals were some of the best local and classic Peruvian food we had during our whole trip in Peru. The amount, quality and diversity of the meals provided were above what you’re known from a hotel buffet. They also made sure that all kinds of allergies or dietary preferences were matched and still no one is left hungry. Even though during the briefing they tell you to bring snack with you, that’s Not necessary at all in our opinion, since the food provided is more that you can eat. Arriving in aguas calientes and knowing machu pichu is right in front of you was still one of the best moments. The Hotel provided is a 3-star average hotel. It’s nice and you can sleep very comfortably, even though the train tracks just infront can keep you up during the night. Normally the machu pichu entry is in the morning with the whole group, but due to availability of tickets we had an afternoon entry with a private tour guide, which was an extra fee. Nevertheless the guide, Roberto, was very proficient, with a lot of inka knowledge and knew his way around so we were exactly on time. But I would recommend everybody who has an afternoon ticket, to either get a late train (after 1900) or stay another night in aguas calientes, so you have enough time in machu pichu to enjoy. Out time frame left us with only 1:45 to make it back in time wich was enough but felt a little shortened, especially at the end. Overall experience and review: Tour Guide: 11/10 (Fernando) Cooking staff: 11/10 (Fredy) Support from the office: 9/10 (I would’ve wished for a more transparent overview of the last day; we were left a little in the dark until the briefing day) Tour guide Machu Pichu: 11/10 (Roberto)
Great food, great experience in general great guide. Overall it was unreal!
Everyone I dealt with at was helpful from start to finish. Our guides, Filio and Evans, were brilliant. They looked after everyone really well, and you could tell how much they love what they do. The chef and the rest of the crew worked hard and everything ran smoothly. The itinerary is well put together, and every day felt different. I was also lucky with the group. A really good bunch of people, which made the whole thing.
We had a fantastic 5-day Salkantay trek with Trexperience and were very lucky with the weather for most of the trip. The scenery is genuinely spectacular, although some of the downhill sections are surprisingly challenging and tricky underfoot. The trek is physically demanding, particularly for first-time hikers. The accommodation varied considerably — from a basic tent, to a hut, to a hotel room — so it’s worth being prepared for some fairly basic overnight stays. If you’re new to multi-day trekking, an upgrade may be worth considering where available. I particularly appreciated having access to a hot shower when we could: it made a surprisingly big difference to energy levels and the general vibe going into the following day. The food was a real highlight: excellent cooked meals throughout, with plenty of variety and flavour given the remote locations. Our guides, Evans and Filio, were great company throughout. Filio in particular was charismatic and brought plenty of energy and personality to the group. At times, clearer and more direct information about plans and practicalities would have been helpful, as things could occasionally get lost amongst the banter. Collections, drop-offs and the wider logistics were all handled smoothly, and contact with the organisation was never a problem. There is inevitably a fair bit of bag repacking, downsizing and moving things between bags along the way, which can get a little tiresome, but that’s part and parcel of doing a multi-day trek like this. Overall, a challenging but hugely rewarding experience, with incredible scenery, excellent food and a great team. Definitely worth doing if you’re prepared for the physical demands and some basic accommodation along the way.
I just finished the 5 day Salkantay Trek with TreXperience and it was an amazing experience. Our tour guide Abelardo was amazing. His knowledge of the flora and fauna as well as the history of the land was fascinating. We learned about all different types of plants, local traditions of the Quechua people, and the story of maccu piccu among many other things along the trek. It made our tour so much more fascinating learning about all this while hiking. The food every meal was also very good. Our chef balbino did an excellent job cooking copious amounts of food that was delicious. It was so satisfying after a long day of hiking to eat wonderful meals. Two logistical benefits i personally think make booking with TreXperience advantageous. The first is staying very close to salkantay the first night. This guranteees that we were first on the pass early the morning of the second day, and it is surreal being the only ones up there before the crowds show up. This same logistics is true at llactapata, where after a long afternoon of hiking we are the only ones at the top of the mountain, at a beautiful campsite overlooking maccu piccu. This was perhaps one of the most stunning moments of the entire trek. Having these moments with just our group and no other people was really special.
Just finished the 5 day Salkantay trek with our Guide Abelardo. Couldn’t recommend more highly. Abelardo was incredibly knowledgeable about the history of the people extending back beyond the Incas, the geology of the mountains as well as anything else you might ask. He provided the information while making it fun and interesting. Our guide Wilbur was also great and very helpful with anything we needed. He took the four day tour but was also very knowledgeable. The rest of the experience was incredible also with the Chef Balbino. The food was honestly incredible.
Great experience, Cesar and Eric made this adventure an ever lasting memory. Well done
This trip was amazing! We had the best guides the whole time with Evans and Filio. The food everyday was different and very good. The price is very reasonable considering everything you get! We did the 4- day trek and it was the perfect amount. The group size was great and we had amazing people traveling with us. Evans was our solo guide towards the end of the travel and did a great job educating us at Machu Picchu!
My family had an excellent experience; we will remember this for a lifetime. Seriously, the guides, Jose Abad and Moises were outstanding! The entire trek was awesome - challenging but awesome. Definitely recommend.
Very supportive staff and food was amazing especially taking into account we where off grid for 90% of the trail. The team was very good at understanding each participants abilities and supporting them individually. From start to finish it was well organised thank you trexperiance for giving me the opportunity to reach the finish line.
David condori is legend We did the Salkantay Trek tour, and the experience with our guide and the entire team accompanying us was incredible. David is extremely knowledgeable; he shared amazing moments talking about the Incas and Peruvian culture, and he was also very entertaining—he always had something interesting to say. Our chef, Beltean, was also incredible.
Amazing experience doing the 5-day Salkantay Trek with TreXperience. The scenery was incredible, the trip was really well organised, and the whole crew made the experience unforgettable. A special thanks to our guides, Jose and Moises. Both were knowledgeable, friendly and genuinely cared about everyone in the group. They kept the trek fun, helped us through the harder sections, and shared so much about the local culture and history along the way. Would definitely recommend TreXperience and especially Jose and Moises to anyone looking to do the Salkantay Trek!
The company and our tourguide David Condori were very professional- everything was well organized and we had a great experience. Also we has the best food of our Peru Trip from our chef Beltran. After the trip we were still talking about missing his food! The four day trip was perfect length for us and visiting Machu Picchu a highlight!
We did the 5-day Salkantay Trek with David Condori as our guide and Beltran as our chef. They were exceptional the whole way through. David had alot of knowledge about the Inca’s, the places we visited and other historic topics. Hé was also very fun to be around and made sure that everyone was comfortable. Beltran prepared amazing breakfasts, lunches and dinners so we were well prepared everytime before we went to start our hike. Lovely trip, great views, good company - would definitely recommend!
It was a fantastic experience, with great guides, delicious food, and beautiful walks.
Our family of 5's experience with TreXperience Salkantay 5 day Trek was seamless from start of booking process to end of trek (a perfect weather magical morning at Machu Picchu!). Our incredible guides (Julio C, Evans y Roger) were organized, encouraging , attentive and friendly. The BEST! The rest of the team including chef Celso and his staff, porters and drivers worked incredibly hard under some tough conditions. I would not hesitate to book another trip with TreXperience. They amazed us! 🩷🌽🦙🇲🇽🏔️🏞️
I had an amazing experience on my five day Salkantay Trek. Our tour guide David Condori was amazing, funny and all around very knowledgable about everything concerning the Incas and his heritage. I thoroughly enjoyed the experience because of him. Accompanying him was also Julio Cesar an amazing cook who made all our food. Even in remote places we were eating like kings. Also all his helpers were exceptional. I have nothing I was unhappy about :)
My friends and I had an amazing time with Trexperience on the 5 day Salkantay trek! Our guides, David and Julio, were absolutely amazing. They were funny, caring, and always made sure we were having a great time and staying safe on the trails. The trek itself was fun each day with views I will never forget. This is a must do for everyone at some point in their life. Hope to be back some day soon and would definitely book again with Trexperience.
This was my first time doing a multiday hike and hiking at altitude and it was totally worth it! Our guides Julio, Evans, and Roger were very knowledgeable and had the tour running smoothly every day. It was a tough trail but having guides that stick with you and help you all along the way really kept me going. Our cook Celso was amazing as well, I was so impressed with the food provided on this trek. This will be an experience that stays with me forever!
I really enjoyed the Salkantay Tour from the beginning to the end. Everything was well organized and I did not have to worry about anything. Special appreciation to our guides Daniel AKA la leyenda and Raul. They created a positive environment from the start on and made everything easy going. Furthermore, the meals were delicious and always much to eat. To sum it up, I would always book with TreXperience again because there is Not a Single thing that made me regret my Choice - Great Value for Money too!
TreXperience was an excellent choice from start to finish! My first guide was Juan Miranda, he is an environmentalist and is passionate about the history of his country. He was very informative about all the historical sites we visited. I enjoyed being with him and learning about the history of Peru!
The TreXperience team goes above and beyond expectations for booking on the Salkantay trek. Our tour guide, David Condori, made the experience memorable with a great sense of planning, humor, fitness, and appreciation for his Incan culture. The food was also insanely good, chef Julio Caesar and crew work hard all day to deliver the most delicious, local, and high quality meals.
TreXperience is excellent. They meet your every needs and are very on top of things. Filio was an excellent tour guide who went above and beyond to give us an exceptional 5 day tour.
I did the 5-day Salkantay Trek to Machu Picchu with TreXperience and it was one of the best trekking experiences I've had. The scenery alone is worth the trip: from the high-altitude Salkantay Pass with views of the glacier down through cloud forest, the landscape changes completely every day. One day we had snow, another night a perfectly clear sky full of stars and the Milky Way. Some nights were glamping with marshmallows by the fire, others camping with a direct view of Machu Picchu Mountain, a great mix. Alex and Roberto guided us through it all, and together they made the whole trip. Alex's English was excellent and he was incredibly knowledgeable about Inca history, so this wasn't just a trek but felt like an interactive journey through the past. Both of them looked after the group so well that by the end it genuinely felt like a family rather than a tour group. The food, prepared by our chef Leandro, was outstanding every single day, and we even got cake at one point, a real treat this deep in the mountains. We were taken care of exceptionally well, and everything tasted amazing. I'd recommend this trek and TreXperience without hesitation to anyone considering Salkantay as an alternative to the classic Inca Trail.
I came into this trekking experience quite blind and was really not too sure what to expect. Our group was relatively small and had a diverse background in terms of ages, experience, and demographic. We were paired well with similar physical fitness levels which I appreciated. Our guides, David Condori and Evans were wholesome and experienced individuals. The lengths at which they went to provide a great experience for us were also greatly appreciated. These guides have been trekking Salkantay for years and their experience shows. The history and stories they have shared with us during this trek really made it a unique experience compared to just doing a self-guided tour of this pass; I would always recommend a guided option in order to be able to learn from the locals directly. Our guides were easy to talk to and approachable which made asking gringo-questions seamless. Pricing was fair. Accommodations were comfortable and relatively warm which is all I really need. The chefs food were great and I loved being able to eat like a local from a local themselves. The only thing I would want to see improved upon for future hikers would be for TreX to start including a digital or physical copy of the daily itineraries. This would allow people to better plan their day pack and give them an idea for the day ahead. Its a small request but it allowed me to get a better sense of the day ahead. The daily itineraries were explained the morning of but I can't remember much that early in the morning after eating a big breakfast lol. PS. The hot springs was a great unexpected surprise and I highly recommend it for future individuals as well!
Absolutely the best. Our guides, Abelardo, Fabio, Alberto are very friendly and helpful and give us great information on the history of the inca. Food is the best you will get after hiking for a long day so kudos to the chefs.
This is one of those experiences I will never forget for the rest of my life. As a beginner hiker I had no idea what i signed up for with my friends. Although it was one of the hardest physical challenges I have ever done, it was by far the most impactful and life changing. The first day i struggled quite a bit but Fabio and Alberto were with me encouraging me the entire way. They were so kind and never made me feel like i was being weak. Always provided kind words and even offered little tips and tricks and candies! I will always remember their kindness. Aberlardo was amazing with providing the group with historical facts and was so funny to be around! The porters, horsemen, chef and sous chef all did such a great job accommodating us and making us comfortable. All the staff members always had our comfort and safety in mind and ensured we had an amazing time. This has been a once in a life time experience and the pictures don’t do it justice.
Amazing experience, Yovan was a fantastic and funny guide and the rest of the team was also nice. Would recommend!
From start to finish was so smooth. Lovely challenging hike, never felt hurried. Great, fun yet professional guides Pepe and Evan. Food was fantastic and plentiful. Did I say the food was fantastic!
Had the absolute best few days on the Salkantay trek in August! All sorts of weather, beautiful views and a lovely group to trek with. Alex is a really excellent guide, he kept us all on track, made sure everyone was able to go at their own pace and was keen to share his extensive knowledge with us. Along with Wilbert and the rest of the team we were well looked after! Also special thanks to Ismael and the chef team, they really exceeded expectations for vegan food on the trip, preparing a variety of delicious, healthy and filling meals including vegan versions of local dishes. I would happily recommend Trexperience to anyone - you won’t regret booking this trip!
I cannot fault my experience with trexperience, my guides Pepe and Evans were absolutely fantastic throughout. The food was incredible with every single thing taken care of. I was travelling alone but the group immediately bonded and behaved as one big friendship group despite differences in age. Pepe’s knowledge of the the Inca’s history and Evans huge friendly personality made the trip something I will never forget. You would be making a mistake to book with any other company. From coca tea every morning to hot water bottles and fun evening games, it was a trip I won’t ever forget.
It was an unforgettable experience; the three guides—Abelardo, Albert, and Fabio—were very professional, and the food was delicious. They were very punctual regarding the scheduled times. My recommendation before undertaking this experience is to be physically prepared.
I had a wonderful experience on the Salkantay Trek in Peru! From start to finish, the journey was smooth and very well organized. The guides were experienced, knowledgeable, and incredibly patient throughout the trek. A special thank you to William, who was always encouraging and supportive, especially during the moments when I felt like giving up. His motivation helped me keep going and made a big difference in completing the trek. The variety of food was also impressive, and everything we had was delicious. I really enjoyed the meals throughout the journey, especially considering how challenging the trek can be. Overall, it was an unforgettable experience, and I’m very happy I chose this trek. I would definitely recommend it to anyone looking for an amazing adventure in Peru!
As a female solo travel, I absolutely loved my experience doing the Salkantay trek with TreXperience! I felt incredibly well taken care of and we also had so much fun. The group was a mix of nationalities and ages, which meant great conversation and laughs. Our guides, Tony (Anthony) and Efrain, were fantastic! So friendly, knowledgable and a great sense of humour. I would like to say a special thanks to Efrain, who went out of his way to take us around circuit 3 of Machu Picchu, after we bought this as an addition the night before. Thanks to our chef, Luis, the food was delicious, nutritious and each day was different! Starting with a comforting soup and then a whole variety of dishes to choose from. People with allergies in my group (severe nut, gluten intolerant and vegetarian) were well catered for and all given alternatives when required. I’m so glad I chose TreXperience for this adventure and would highly recommend to anyone! The train ride back is also special and this is included. Worth every Penny!
We are very satisfied with out Salkantay trip. The hike itself is wonderful, but the real difference was the guide and other staff that help us enjoy our experience even more! Most of the accomodation were exceptional, surrounded by nature. Alex and Wilber were great guides, always ready to answer our questions and sharing his profound knowledge about the region and Peru. The food prepared by out chef, Ismael, was plentiful and sooo tasty. They were always very cheerful. Definitely would do it again.
Our Salkantay Trek with TreXperience was an outstanding 5-star experience and exceptional value. A special mention goes to our guide, Tony, whose quiet, thoughtful leadership made a huge difference. He managed the group dynamics exceptionally well, keeping the atmosphere positive and ensuring that the pace was appropriate for everyone. He was attentive without being overbearing and consistently made sure everyone felt supported and comfortable. The food was another highlight. The quality, variety, and sheer quantity were far beyond what we expected on a multi-day trek. Every meal was impressive, especially considering the remote conditions. The entire support team was excellent—professional, hardworking, friendly, and always there when needed. From the logistics to the camps and meals, everything was handled seamlessly. Overall, TreXperience delivered a high-quality, well-organized and genuinely memorable trek. We would highly recommend them to anyone considering the Salkantay Trek. Five stars and excellent value for the experience provided.
Anthony was the most amazing guide - knowledgeable, patient, kind, motivational, and funny. I cannot say enough great things about him. And, Louis, our chef, somehow managed to prepare outstanding meals in very rural settings! We had plenty of nourishing and delicious food. The entire team was always full of smiles and kindness! Will definitely book with Trexperience if we return to Peru.
Roger and William were very good Guides! They knew a lot due to their local heritage and provided all the information we needed (I was very interested ;) ). They were very professional so that we always felt safe during the trip. There even is flexible options if you need a horse because you can't do it yourself or the guide (William) carrying your bag or something like that. A tip to future travelers: this is a big and well organized company, so no sketchy scams here; you are in better hands than with some other companies. The cost was extremly good for what you get, just given the prices of the tickets to Machu Picchu, the train and the food. There always is vegetarian options and you could describe the food like a buffet. It is better then in a restaurant (greetings to the chef Ferdinand) and always more than enough. Waking up with a premium (and not crowded) view of Machu Picchu out of your tent after the last night is very nice too. Just generarly bring warm clothes, because the nights can get very cold! I highly recommend this trip and this company. Would do it again.
Probably the best experience of my life! What a wonderful tour with the guides Abelardo and Luis Miguel! The organisation was perfect, everything organised to the minimum detail anticipating all our our needs. A big shout to the amazing chefs and horsemen that made our experience so easy and enjoyable! And now about the tour per se.. I really cannot stress enough how thoughtful and knowledgeable Abelardo was. Went above and beyond to transmit his love for the mountains and Perú to us. It’s not just about walking but about connecting with the nature and the people who walked this path before. I would recommend to anyone who needs to detox from his phone and go back to the nature or as the Inca would say “Go back to the rocks”! I would go back 100%, thank you very much for this amazing experience!
We arrived in Cusco on Aug 22, 2026 for our 4 day private luxury Inca Trail trip with Trexperience only to discover that the previous week's torrential rains (unprecedented for this time of year) had resulted in tragedy in the mountains. Deaths on both the Inca Trail and the Salkantay route, along with enormous damage to the Inca Trail itself had resulted in the government closing the Inca Trail for an indefinite period of time. So there we were, in Cusco, after spending 9 months training for this trip, and we couldn't go. Thanks to Trexperience, and some quick thinking, by the end of that day, we had changed our plans to do the 5 day Salkantay trek instead. This was a major shift in logistics and support for Trexperience to arrange. Trexperience's flexibility and quick action saved our trip. In addition, we were treated like royalty by our local, expert guide Edy "El Puma" Pumacahua. Edy grew up in the mountains speaking the native Quechua and was a proud and excellent ambassador for his wonderful culture. In addition, when a member of our party needed some extra help with the high pass and steep descents (we are not young) he went above and beyond to ensure safe travel. Daniel our cook produced absolutely incredible meals (out of a tent!) day after day that surpassed anything we had in some of the highest rated restaurants in Cusco and Ollantaytambo. Before this trip, we wouldn't have believed food like that was possible on a trek like this. Marily Zoraida, our massage therapist, somehow repaired our tired bodies each night and always had a smile to greet us when she went zipping by on the trail to arrive at camp before us to set up. Our porters and muleteers completed the picture. While they were working very hard, it also showed that they were loving their job and, we believe, were being treated ethically by Trexperience. This is a 100% local company, run and staffed by locals who know these mountains inside and out. When we go back, they will be our choice again.
First off.. our guide tony and Efrain.. they are absolutely AMAZING!!!! Their ability to accommodate each individual, each individuals camp site, food, any issues, and never left anyone last in the walking line. Very very good team comradary. If we could have extended our trip a few more days just to keep walking with them I would’ve paid double!! Every stop had a lesson and a laugh. The cook was incredible for our team and My partner! Incredible cooking team. Their communication with us was absolutely superb!
The BEST guided trek and amazing team. I could not recommend this trek enough and doing it through Trexperience. Our guide Tony was amazing, he had exceptional English, was very informative, looked after everyone so well and made the week very fun with lots of jokes and laughs! Our second guide Efrain was so lovely, very helpful and always making sure we were ok. The rest of the team including the chef Louis, were amazing. They worked so so hard and were always so happy to be there. I cannot praise the quality of food enough, it was delicious!! I am egg, dairy and gluten intolerant, and I never missed out, the chef always had something seperate prepared for me, and it was all so incredible!! So much delicious food and an all round amazing experience with incredible scenery!! If you’re booking a trek to Machu Picchu you MUST book this one, AMAZING!! (make sure you ask for Tony, Efrain and Louis - they are the best)
I can’t express how much fun I had on this trip and the sense of camaraderie that emerges within the group. Tony and Efrain are such hospitable, knowledgeable, and hilarious guides. Hats off to Louis, the chef, for the elaborate creations he and his team made every meal. I feel so grateful for this experience and it’s certainly a life highlight. Trexperience being a local hiking company is the cherry on top.
This was an excellent tour, and I’d highly recommend it. The whole team from TreXperience were professional, hardworking, and clearly cared about giving us a great experience, everything was well organised from start to finish. The Salkantay Trek itself was tough but extremely rewarding. The one thing I’d underestimated was the impact of the altitude. We spent three days acclimatising in Cusco beforehand and took acetazolamide tablets, but even so, my wife and I both struggled with our breathing on the uphill sections. We had two guides, Marco and Rody, who were both excellent and made sure the whole group was looked after. My wife struggled at times, and when she wasn’t able to walk certain sections, they made sure she could still carry on with the trip. We especially appreciated that we were allowed to go at our own pace, we were quite slow, but never felt pressured, even with a guide trailing behind us. The porters and cooks deserve a special mention. They produced three-course lunches and dinners every day with minimal facilities, and there was always so much food. Breakfasts were just as good, one morning they even made us a cake! And every morning started with a cup of tea brought to our tent. I had two personal highlights from the trip. The location of our first night’s camp was amazing, the sky was clear and the view of the Milky Way was astounding. It was cold, but TreXperience gave us hot water bottles, and we also had a campfire with marshmallows. There were lots of other groups doing the same trek, but I think our camp was the highest, which meant we were the first group to start our ascent, and the first to reach the top! My second highlight was seeing a hummingbird at close range, feeding on nectar from a flower. Obviously, another highlight was Machu Picchu. This was made special as we were among the first people in that day. It was an early start, but it meant our views of the site were without the crowds. I also hadn’t realised there are different circuits around Machu Picchu, we had Circuit 2, which meant we could get right in amongst the buildings. Apparently, booking early is what allowed us to get this circuit. Our guide around Machu Picchu was a character, though he informed us, in all seriousness, that it was built by aliens! Overall, an unforgettable trip, one I’ll be recommending to anyone thinking of taking on the Salkantay Trek.
Did the 4 day/3 night Salkantay trek with Alex, Wilberg, and Ishmael the chef, and it was an incredible experience. Very knowledgable guides who were supportive and encouraging during the whole trek. The food really exceeded expectations - we had a buffet for every meal and they catered amazingly to dietary requirements including vegan. There were some super nice touches like hot water bottles per person on a cold night and being woken in the early mornings by a coca tea brought to bed! Overall definitely recommend TreXperience for hiking the Salkantay.
