Went with a group of friends and had the best time! Papa Freddy was calm, funny and real. Shared the history of the Quechua traditions in such a rad way. Love that this company is locally owned and when observing other groups felt ours felt more genuine and less performative. Highly recommend! Thanks Papa Freddy and crew.

Itinerary
Day 1
1
Your adventure begins with an early morning pickup from your hotel in Cusco (3,399 masl / 11,152 ft.), followed by a scenic minivan ride to Ollantaytambo (2,792 masl / 9,160 ft.). From here, we board a train to Km 104 (Chachabamba, 2,100 masl / 6,890 ft.), where we begin our trek along the most breathtaking stretch of the Inca Trail. Our first stop is Chachabamba, an archaeological site once used as a religious and agricultural center. As we ascend toward Wiñay Wayna (2,650 masl / 8,694 ft.), we navigate zigzagging trails through the lush cloud forest, passing a small cascading waterfall, a refreshing sight amid the climb. Along the way, we may spot colorful orchids, exotic birds, and, if lucky, viscachas or spectacled bears. By late afternoon, we reach Inti Punku (2,720 masl / 8,924 ft.), where we take in our first panoramic view of Machu Picchu (2,430 masl / 7,972 ft.) before descending to Aguas Calientes (2,040 masl / 6,692 ft.) for a well-earned rest.
Day 2
2
The day begins early with breakfast before boarding one of the morning buses to Machu Picchu (2,430 meters or 7,972 feet). Upon entering the Inca citadel, your guide will lead you on an in-depth tour, sharing the captivating history of this iconic site and explaining its most remarkable features, such as temples, ceremonial areas, terraces, and storage structures. If you’ve secured an additional ticket in advance, you’ll also have the opportunity to explore either Huayna Picchu (2,720 meters or 8,924 feet) or Machu Picchu Mountain (3,082 meters or 10,111 feet) for a breathtaking perspective of the surroundings. After the guided tour, the group will return to Aguas Calientes for a brief rest and lunch. In the afternoon, you’ll board a train back to Ollantaytambo, where a private van will be waiting to take you to Cusco.

When I was researching companies for the 4-day Classic Inca Trail to Machu Picchu, I really wanted to support a local company, and Inkayni Tours immediately stood out. From the moment I booked, the communication was excellent. Unfortunately, due to weather, the trail was closed and we were unable to do the full 4-day hike. We decided to do the Express 2-day hike instead, and throughout what was a very stressful and uncertain time, the communication and support from Inkayni were incredible. They truly went the extra mile to make sure our group could still experience part of the Inca Trail and make our way to Machu Picchu. Our guide, Papa Freddie, was absolutely amazing. His knowledge of the Inca culture, history and spirituality was incredible, and he went above and beyond throughout the entire experience. We noticed that some of the other groups hiking the trail weren’t receiving anywhere near the same level of information and insight that Freddie shared with us, which really made our experience feel special and personal. I would highly recommend Inkayni Tours to anyone travelling to Cusco. They are a smaller, locally owned company that genuinely cares about their clients and making sure you have the best experience possible. Thank you again to the entire Inkayni team for looking after us during such a stressful and unpredictable time, and a very special thank you to Papa Freddie! 🙏🏼❤️
What an amazing and magical experience we had!! Although the trail is hard with steep section of stairs, our guide, Jose Cesar, made the whole journey so pleasant that we would do it again without hesitation. I am leaving this experience with lifetime memories!
Ernesto was fantastic to hike with. Set a great pace and stopped enough to allow us to enjoy the view, take some photos to capture the memories and share information about the history and culture of the area.
Wow! What an incredible trip! Our guide, Ernesto, took great care of my father and I! We finally got to experience Peru and the beauty of Machu Picchu and Ernesto really helped us to learn about the traditional Inca people with a very positive and upbeat attitude! I highly recommend Ernesto and our driver Guido for your next trip to Peru and beyond!! Thank you for the memories!!!
I went with my Mom towards the end of July and we had the most wonderful time! Ernesto was a great guide and provided a lot of good information over our two days together. The timing of everything was great, we got to see everything we hoped to without feeling rushed.
Our two day sacred Valley tour was split into two guides. Richard has guided tourists to Machu Picchu more than 500 times and was a fantastic resource for knowledge. We really appreciated how he took the time during the best photo opportunities to take our pictures with the best angles and views. He was very organized and explained the process of logistics with train and bus tickets. We especially appreciated the surprise of a car service directly back to Cusco. It was very comfortable. This is one of the benefits of investing with AB expeditions. We really valued getting to know our guides as people and learning about their culture. We highly recommend being the first on site to witness the sun crest over the mountains and hit the mountain and Citadel at dawn. It was stunning. You do not need to look past AB expeditions when investing in guided tours of the Sacred Valley.
The two of us did the Short Inca Trail (2 days) and were absolutely thrilled with the whole trip! The scenery is incredible, and the hike to Machu Picchu was an unforgettable experience. A huge thank you goes to our tour guide, Freddi! He was incredibly nice and friendly, providing just the right amount of information—fascinating, yet never bogged down in theory. It was just perfect! A quick tip for anyone arriving by train: don't get confused if there’s any discussion about the kilometer markers (Km 104 vs. Km 106). For the train drivers and guides, it’s effectively the same drop-off point, so there’s no need to worry. Overall, it was a superbly organized tour and an absolute highlight of my trip to Peru. I highly recommend it to everyone!
Our tour guide was Freddie. We had a great time with him. We learned so much about Machu Picchu and the history. He was welcoming and showed us around. We had a great experience. Overall, the track was really enjoyable.
We had a wonderful experience with our tour guide named Freddy he was very friendly and very professional did a great job explaining the history of the inka also the company did a great job with the transportation and the hotel the whole experience was very smooth definitely recommend to book with them
Knowledgeable tour guides, helpful, genuine, they got us the routes we wanted. We got upgraded at no addational coat. Otilia visited us herself and saw us off at the airport.
The 2 day-Inca tour was wonderful. Our guide JC, made it amazing and complete, with all his stores about nature, history and culture. We highly recommend thus tour
We did the 2 day Inca Trail abbreviated tour with Wilbert and loved it! Wilbert is an excellent guide, incredibly helpful and knowledgeable of Peruvian history and culture. He walked at our pace and took amazing photos and videos. On a separate note, coordinating the day before our departure with the office was a bit stressful as we hadn’t heard how to transmit payment or instructions until the night before. It took me having to reach out several times for information. Additionally, I would recommend getting travelers on an earlier train back to Ollantaytambo. There’s not much to do in Aguascalientes and we no longer had a hotel to go back to
I just finished a 2 day excursion with Inkayni. We hiked the Incan trail and visited Machu Picchu with the absolute best tour guide, Ronald. He quickly became like a member of the family. His knowledge of and passion for Incan culture are unmatched. So much so that he turned my boys (12 and 14) in to history buffs. I am not a hiking enthusiast but tagged along on this trek for some quality time with the fam. At the end of the experience I can honestly say that I can't picture a better way to spend 2 days. It was a hard hike (especially Devil's staircase on day 2) but knowing Ronald was looking out for us made all the difference. He would remind us to drink water, take breaks, and was ready with a bandaid for scrapes. If I could give this tour a 6 star rating I would!
Our two-day trip to Machu Picchu was truly a once-in-a-lifetime experience, and our guide Edwin made it absolutely unforgettable. This trip was especially meaningful because it was something my dad and I did together, and Edwin helped make it such a special memory for both of us. From the moment we met him, Edwin was incredibly welcoming, knowledgeable, and passionate about the history and culture of the region. Throughout the hike he shared fascinating stories about Machu Picchu and the surrounding Sacred Valley, and he patiently answered all of our questions. He also pointed out plants and wildlife along the trail that we would have completely missed on our own. The hike up the morning switchbacks was definitely challenging, but Edwin kept us motivated and encouraged every step of the way. His enthusiasm and positive energy made the experience even more memorable. Everything about the trip was perfectly organized—from our pickup and hotel stay to our drop-off at the end. We never had to worry about logistics and could simply enjoy the incredible scenery and experience. The restaurants we visited in Aguas Calientes were excellent and a wonderful part of the trip. Sharing this experience with my dad made it incredibly special, and having Edwin as our guide truly brought Machu Picchu to life for us. If you are planning a visit to Machu Picchu, I highly recommend this tour and especially Edwin as a guide. Edwin made this unforgettable place even more meaningful for us, and we are so grateful for the experience.
Good Guide Knows a lot of the environment and the Incaculture well organised
Great hike on the first day from km104 Ernesto was a brilliant tour guide for us, informative, knowlwdgeable and funny. Great English and allowed us to take the tour at our own pace. Nice hotel and restaurant for the welcome stop over in Aguas Calliante. Highly recommend!
We did the 2 day Inca Trail to Machu Picchu with Ernesto. We couldn’t have wisher for a better tour guide. Ernesto was so informative, made sure we were safe at all times and made our experience so much fun. We were picked up from our hotel at 4am and taken to the train station by a driver (who also kindly let us leave our bags on the van) we were also provided food/drinks for our hike. The train journey around 1 hour and then we met our tour guide. The start of the hike is flat for around 1 hour and then it gets pretty tough for about 2 hours. The rest of the journey is pretty flat. I would highly recommend Ernesto 🙂
Had a great time with Ernesto on the two day trip, the Inca trail was amazing and so worth the steps. He was really informative whilst still being relaxed and fun. I learnt a lot about the Incas, the plants and animals as well as about Peru in general. We all had a great time and he took loads of photos for us. Would recommend him to anyone and hopefully will be back in Peru to do another tour with him some day!
This was the most amazing hike I've ever been on. Julio was great at coaching us and helping us on our trip. He is very passionate about his job and loves waht he does. Definitely would recommend. If it was not for Julio I would not of been able to finish the hike. Best evey.
The trek was fantastic, and even though it rained the whole morning the weather cleared up just in time for the stunning view from Inti Punku. Our guide JC was amazing! His knowledge, humour and patience got us through the tough first half and he gave us a lot of insight into the Inkas and the Quetchuan culture. Thank you so much! Añai!
Inkanyi Tours These guys are the real deal. Amazing service, competitive price, well organized and great communications. Special thanks to “chief” Gonzalo who put up with MANY questions from me all the way through to our return to Cusco. We loved the first driver (and his wife), who got us to the train in time in the van. We were greeted by our guide Freddy who was very good for our 2 day macchu pichu adventure. Thank you Freddy and a special thanks to John the assistant guide - big heart, sweet demeanor and even helped carry our daughters backpack. Golden Sunrise hotel was perfect for what we needed.safe clean and very sweet and helpful staff. The room has a partial view of the river if you look beyond all the “construction” and a great market across the street. Front desk staff was awesome and breakfast hit the mark as well.
Ernesto was a wonderful guide! He was a patient guide for the tough climb up the last section of the Inca Trail, regaled our group with a wealth of fascinating information about the Incan Empire and Macchu Picchu, and made sure that we made all the transfers along the itinerary. He went the extra mile too, loaning me a backpack to carry my gear in (as the Inkayni packing list didn’t specify we needed that). I highly recommend him if you’re considering a tour of the Inca Trail and Macchu Picchu.
So I’ve used this guide service before with guide Freddy Torres on the 5 day Salkantay. He was awesome. This year, my wife and I had less time so we selected the 2 day Inca trail trip. When selecting the trip in this review, I selected the private tour but as it was the only option. My wife said she booked the public 2 day. This time we had “Ronald” (Ronald Cana Sotalero on his guide ID) and he was great as well. What we liked about this guide service is that there are locals and as we understand it, completely based in Peru. This opposed to a company that is based in another country and then contracting out their guides services. In our opinion, the company is very concerned about sustainable use of Peru and particularly Machu Pichu. They point out concerns about water use, concentration of profits, making Machu Pichu more exclusive as opposed easily available to everyone. These guides possess extensive knowledge and will give you so much information. We couldn’t come up with a question that Ronald couldn’t answer. The 2 day trip includes the train ride to Kilometer marker 104 and then you hike 10+ kilometers to the sun gate. Then hike down to Machu Pichu to look around before taking the bus into Aguas Cliente. You stay overnight in a hotel there and then return the next day to Machu Pichu on the bus. Again, very extensive information from Ronald on all aspects Machu Pichu. After this, we bought our guide lunch at a vegan restaurant which was a little humorous to me as he said he was a hardcore carnivore (but reported enjoying the meal). All in all, a great trip! Highly recommend this company particularly if you have RONALD or FREDDY as your guide.
We had an unforgettable experience on the Short Inka Trail with Inkayni Peru Tours and our fantastic guide JC. Everything was perfectly planned and clearly communicated — from hotel pickup and shuttle to Ollantaytambo, to the box lunch and train ride. The hike was beautiful, and JC kept us motivated through the steep steps while sharing his deep knowledge of Inka history and culture. He also arranged our stay in Aguas Calientes with dinner included, which made the journey seamless. The next day, we explored Circuit 3 of Machu Picchu, where JC went above and beyond explaining the site’s history and traditions. Our return train and shuttle to Cusco were smooth and right on time. Highly recommend JC and Inkayni Peru Tours for an unforgettable adventure! Thanks!
Inkayani was very flexible and reachable at any point of time before and during the Inca Trail. JC was our guide and it was pleasure to have with us on board. Explained us everything and been with us from briefing till send off. His company made the Inca Trail more enjoyable. I would definitely recommend booking your any activity with Inkayni and will be a memorable one.
We did the two-day Inca Trail and Machu Picchu tour, and it was amazing everything went so smoothly! Papa Freddy was our guide, and he made the hike both fun and super informative. He’s easily one of the best guides we’ve had while traveling. Highly recommend both the tour and the legend himself, Papa Freddy! 10/10
Me and my partner really enjoyed the 2 day Inca Trail. We were picked up and dropped off door to door - our driver was very nice. Our guide for the trail itself, Papa Freddie, was amazing; very knowledgeable and accommodating. Would highly recommend him - 10/10!
Wow! What an amazing experience! We booked the Short Inca Trail as a group tour, but ended up getting a private tour. Our guide Julio Cesar was wonderful: he cheered us on the entire way, made us laugh, told great stories, answered every question and took many many great photos. We loved him! Also all the logistics of the two days were organized really well, we never felt rushed or short on time and we didn't have to worry about a single thing. Finally the views of the Short Inca Trail were breathtaking, and you actually walk through another Inca city (Wiñayhuayna) which was really special. Definitely recommended!!
We hiked with JC and had a wonderful experience. JC was a fantastic guide and we can’t recommend him enough. Thank you for such a great trip!
We had a fabulous time on our tour. Communication with the office staff was clear and prompt. Our tour guide Eddie was extremely knowledgeable about the flora and fauna and the history of Machu Pichu. He was very kind and easy to talk to! Highly recommend using Inkayni.
We had a wonderful experience with this tour company and especially with our guide, Eddie. He was incredibly knowledgeable, sharing fascinating history and insights about Machu Picchu that brought the site to life. Eddie’s friendly, professional manner made the days seamless and truly memorable. We left feeling both inspired and grateful for such a well-organized and enriching adventure.
We had an incredible experience with our guide JC! From the very beginning, he had such a positive and friendly attitude that made the entire day even more enjoyable. He shared so much history and knowledge in a way that was easy to understand and kept us engaged the whole time—we walked away feeling like we really understood the story of Machu Picchu. On top of that, he went above and beyond by taking tons of amazing photos for us throughout the day. Thanks to him, we not only have wonderful memories but also beautiful pictures to look back on. I would absolutely recommend him to anyone visiting Machu Picchu!
Everything went according plan. Our first contact was with the touroperator himself. Then we got a personal guide, Juan Carlos. The day before the trail, we met at our airbnb to inform us about the trip. This organisation has a very personal approach, we recommend it to everybody.
This was one of the best tour experiences I’ve ever had! Right away the communication was quick and reliable. Initially there were some difficulties going to Machu Picchu on our desired dates because it was sold out- lots of other tour companies we purchased through refunded us with no explanation of why. But Inkayni responded as soon as I booked our tour with them and explained why because of certain government restrictions and then they proceeded to give us alternative options. Once we finally agreed on our new itinerary, everything was great. They gave us the opportunity to stay a night in Ollantaytambo which was amazing. That wasn’t in our original plan but we are so happy we made that stop. The day of our hike, everything was very well planned. We got transported from point to point with no problems. Very little was needed from us except to show up and be on time. Our most favorite part of this experience was our hiking tour guide WILBERT. Such a great, humble, and funny person. One of the best people you will ever meet. His knowledge of the history of the Incas is unmatched. After our hike I feel like I am now an encyclopedia of Inca history! It brought a whole new perspective for us and we are so thankful for that because now I can fully appreciate the beauty of what is Machu Picchu. We chatted from beginning to end of our hike and by the end of the day he felt like an old friend. He also takes great photos and videos! I would hire him as a cinematographer. After our long hike we had lunch before our journey back to Cusco. I had previously mentioned it was my birthday during our hike and Wilbert subtly mentioned it to our lunch hosts and they surprised me with a birthday cake and song. Truly amazing. I would definitely recommend Inkayni tours to anyone hoping to visit Cusco, Macchu Picchu, or do the Inca Trail. Please, if you want to have the best experience request Wilbert as your tour guide!
Wilbert was amazing, very knowledgeable, and kind! We asked him many questions and he had the answers to everything. I did the tour with my mum and we very much enjoyed the experience. I recommend Wilbert highly!
We had a fantastic experience with Ronald, he is passionate about his country history and culture. He kept up with our slow pace and provided good information during the trek to Cusco. The next day we spent the full morning visiting the Machu Picchu site where he took great care to teach us about the history and geography. We couldn't do the Machu Picchu mountain because of the weather, and after a few messages on Whatsapp, we were promptly refunded. We highly recommend inkayini and Ronald.
Our guide Julio Cesar was prepared, qualifed and so kind. it was a pleasure to had the inca trail with him. the hotel wasn't perfect, but ok.
Best Macchu Picchu experience. Ronald, our amazing guide, walked with us from km 104 to macchu picchu. On the way we saw many different ruines like Winaywailna and Puerta del sol that you would not see just by visiting Macchu Picchu. We also and had lot of explanations that helped us understanding inca culture and inca way of life.
Highly recommend Inkayni Peru Tours if you want to visit Machu Picchu. We took the 2-day group tour and had an absolutely amazing experience. It was well-organised from start to finish and we had a very knowledgeable and passionate guide (JC).
I opted for the Two Day Inca Trail Trip to Machu Pichu just out of curiosity about the depth of Inca history but I was rewarded with much more than that. And I must say that the trip was a dream come true due to two things and those were the sincerity of the tour operator Inkayni Peru Tours and their absolute brilliant guide Mr Ronald Ccana Soralero. The trip commenced from Cusco early morning by road in order to catch the 6 AM train from Ollantaytambo. We got down at KM 104 which is a nondescript halt enroute to the base of Machu Pichu where the train finally reaches. We stated our journey from KM 104 which has a hanging Bridge to cross the River Urubamba. The significance of this crossing was huge because it was one of the principal tributary of Amazon. The climb was indeed steep at times but the views it offered were priceless. The Incas truly knew their work of laying down a lasting trail. There were halt places and in addition the Tourism Department had made well maintained rest places along the route. The path gave us beautiful views of the River Valley and as we climbed higher and higher, the views became more spectacular. The best pleasant surprise came when an early Inca settlement, Winaywayna emerged in front. We would soon reach it and taken in by its spread and details. There is also a place for taking the lunch which though given by the tour operator but had to be carried on person. They made a perfect lunch with adequate energy supplements. Around 3 PM we got to see the grand Machu Pichu from the famous Sun Gate and we felt humbled by the fact that this was where the Inca kings too saw Machu Pichu on their walks. Soon we would descend into Machu Pichu and the feel it was immersive. The evening was spent at a hotel down at Aguas Calientes arranged by the tour company. The second day involved going to the main areas of Machu Pichu where our guide Ronald narrated the historic relevance with absolute confidence and conviction. He seemed to know every nook and corner of the monument with minute details and he surely made it worth the trip. Finally we returned by train back to Ollantaytambo and by road back to the hotel. The whole trip was memorable because of our wonderful guide Ronald and the tour operator Inkayni. Thanks to you both. Ronald was a mess also a motivator for us to complete the memorable trek. I would also recommend others to take this trip after spending two days in Cusco and after seeing the smaller monuments in the Sacred Valley. This will enable you to acclimatise and also appreciate the smaller monuments for their worth. Lastly, travel light and do carry just the basic overnight change or the weight could punish your back as it is a long trek involving great heights. But my wife and I who are in our sixties could make it and so you too can
Fantastic tour, Wilbert was really knowledgeable and I would recommend it to anyone that only has a couple of days to experience Machu Picchu.
Amazing experience with WIllbert our tour guide. A beautiful country with incredible history and culture. I highly recommend this tour.
Ali our guide was fantastic! He was very knowledgeable of all of the Inca sites that we came across while hiking the Inca Trail. He helped us take unforgettable pictures too!
Ali was our guide and we had an awesome time. He was very knowledgeable and was able to tell us about Incan history. Would highly recommend booking with Inkayni!
I picked this tour with Paul Cano who I had as a guide in 2022. Paul knows everything there is to know about Machu Picchu. He brings an IPad with pictures to enhance your learning experience. On the Inca trail he could name every plant. My hiking partner was having difficulty with the trail and having balance issues. Paul carried his backpack the entire time and stayed right by his side so that he wouldn’t be injured. Paul definitely went above and beyond for us!
Perfect trek to MP, with the perfect guide, Ernesto! We learned so much, he was very patient with my sometimes slow climbing/hiking (old, bad knees) and incredibly accommodating!! Ernesto is the absolute best guide! He takes the BEST PHOTOS!!! The hotel accommodations, breakfast, lunch and dinner were all excellent! The transportation was flawless!
I had an amazing experience in Cusco with our tour guide, Ronald. From the moment we started our journey, he brought the rich history of the Incas to life, sharing fascinating stories that deepened our appreciation for the sites we visited. Our trip to Machu Picchu was truly unforgettable, especially the one-day Inca Trail hike. Ronald expertly guided us through the beautiful scenery, ensuring we felt safe and engaged every step of the way. His insights about the ancient ruins and the significance of each location were both informative and inspiring. What impressed me most was his passion for his culture and history of the Incas. He answered all our questions with enthusiasm and made sure we didn’t miss any highlights. If you're looking for a knowledgeable and engaging guide in Cusco, I highly recommend Ronald. This trip exceeded my expectations, and I can't thank him enough for making it such a memorable experience!
Ronald, thank you so much for an incredible two days. Your passion and knowledge made the trip absolutely unforgettable and we loved spending the time with you. The walk itself was amazing with insane views and so much history to absorb. If I’m ever back in Peru, I will be signing up for the 4 day trek and requesting Ronald guides me. What a man, what a walk, what a country.
Great tour of Macchu Pichu. They explained everything very clearly and made sure we always knew what was going to happen. Very hard hike but worth it.
