This tour was a great way to get to know Cuenca through many of its food traditions. Flavio was our guide and shared all kinds of interesting information. Our only problem was getting full too fast! But he gave us food to take home, which we enjoyed for several days.

The tour was very interesting and informative. Flavio the tour guide was knowledgeable, professional and very personable. It was a pleasure to work with him.
This is the perfect trip if you want to get introduced to Cuenca by a local. I got multiple snacks and was totally impressed with Edson and his professionalism. It is a great tour around Centro Historico!
This was great tour. Cristian was a great guide! The food he had us eating was amazing!I highly recommend this tour!
What a fun tour. Delicious food, friendly and knowledgeable guide. The pace was perfect and we had the opportunity to stop at little shops as we went. I would do the same tour again!
Tuvimos una EXCELENTE gira y experiencia con Flavio. Flavio mostró conocimiento profundo de la ciudad y su cultura, y nos hizo sentir bienvenidos. We had an EXCELLENT tour of the city with Flavio. Flavio exhibited profound knowledge and passion for the city and its culture. Very importantly, Flavio made us feel welcome and at home.
FINALLY. Cuenca has an authentic French restaurant. Others, at best, are copies of French cooking that does not evoke and memories of traditional France. They merely use French names. They are not necessarily bad, but certainly not French. I am French from Quebec and, like all of us, a foodie. I have spend many years in France The place is newly opened, owned and operated by a handsome Frenchman from Orléans (where Joan of Arc came from). It is decorated in a style that is indistinguishable from 1000s of France restaurants, and the view from the windows on El Centro (the old city) compliments that. I began with a foie gras...nicely prepared and served with garnishes. (a first for Cuenca or Ecuador for that matter). Very pleased. I continued with an exceptional (and large) plate of grilled octopus ersillade, a favorite of mine. Best I have had here in 15 years. I finished with a Tarte Tatin (the legendary French dessert) and expresso allongé. My companion had a Magret of Duck, sliced and pretty and ended with profiterolles I am going back tomorrow with my wife. I shall take photos.
Edison was very accommodating by changing the day because it was raining heavily at our appointed time. However, he arrived on time, agreed on a different time, kindly dropped us off at a different destination, & met us the following day. He’s very knowledgeable about the history of and customs of Cuenca and Ecuador, of the city, and the best places to procure Cuenca foods. He was full of information about all the questions we had. It was a joy to spend time with him.
My husband, daughter and I did an evening tour with Cris and had such a great time. We got to learn a lot about Cuenca’s history and culture alongside the delicious food. We liked that we got to choose the amount of food we’d get, so we didn’t feel overloaded at the end. I’d definitely recommend it to anyone who wants to learn more about Cuenca. Cris was easy to talk to and had helpful suggestions for things to do beyond the tour as well.
We had an excellent tour with Christian trying a variety of street fits and hearing about the culture and history of some of El Centro in Cuenca. Christian was very personable and knowledgeable. We highly recommend this tour with him.
Flavio was AMAZING! We tried so many fun snacks and got options to try sweet savory salty or all the above. It’s very customizable and you learn a lot about the history.
Our tour with Flavio was fantastic! We really enjoyed hearing about Cuenca's history including the architecture and food influence. The walk around the city was informative, hitting on major areas in the historic district. We stopped at the 10 de Augusto Mercado and several food places trying authentic Ecuadorian foods including sweets and breads. Flavio was very friendly, personable and spoke great English. If you want a tour of great food and culture with a local, this is it.
I had a great experience with Flavio my tour guide. We ate many different things like pastries, ceviche, ice cream, and bread from the bakery. He shared insightful knowledge about the economy, the culture and the soul of Cuenca and Ecuador. I would highly suggest booking this tour at the beginning of your trip so you can get a feel for this city and revisit places that interest you.
My husband & I went on this tour and we really enjoyed ourselves! We got to try various local foods, drinks, treats, and learn about each one along the way! Flavio (our guide) was very kind and knowledgeable, and he taught us about the history of the area too, and always answered any questions we had! We highly recommend this event!! It’s a really lovely must if you visit Cuenca!
Flavio took us to the market near San Francisco Plaza, which was amazing to see with all of its produce, meats, & prepared foods. There, we enjoyed some fresh juice (I loved the blackberry & coconut combo) & a warm corn tortilla. We left there and visited a bakery where we enjoyed Rodillo de Christi (bread with cheese on top). We walked around the city, learning about the area, and enjoyed a few sweets…ice cream & espumilla. Flavio was very personable & it all made for a lovely evening!
We had an amazing day with Christian in Cuenca. He was full of knowledge. He shared the older and modern history of Cuenca. He took us to a very large food market and let us taste lots of fruits and local foods. He also took us to the street food section of town and showed us some amazing foods there. We absolutely love Cuenca, its people and its history. We will come back and call Polylepsis tours again.
We did the Street Food Tour in Cuenca with Diego. He's very informative and fun. We tried some food and drinks that we would not have otherwise. The tour took us to lots of places around central Cuenca including one of the markets. We recommend the tour and the excellent guide, Diego.
The 5 of us did the street food tour of Cuenca on a Saturday morning in November 2024. Cristian was an excellent guide, and we all learnt so much about the different types of food that was available in the markets, many of which we’d never seen before.
The tour was a once in a life experience. Cristian was amazing, knowledgeable and super friendly. Will love to do another tour with him.
Christian was our guide. He was so helpful in pointing out and explaining street vendor foods which we tasted and were delicious. We also stopped in a number of small food shops. Without him we would not have sampled these foods on our own since they were unfamiliar and we could not communicate very well with the vendors. Christian was fluent in both English and Spanish (he lived in the US in his young years) so he was familiar with both US and Ecuadorian culture. He was kind, friendly, and funny. We did the tour mostly at night which was a charming and magical experience.
This tour was amazing. My tour guide was Cristian. He is a National Tour Guide with loads of knowledge and facts. We had different juices with information on health benefits in case you have any. The food was great and prepared with care by the vendors. So delicious and so much to eat even the smallest portions. I recommend starting the tour ready to eat. I started this tour as a tourist and ended with a go to friend when in Equador!
The tour was excellent. Christian is the best tour guide. A wealth of knowledge and facts about the entire country as well. The foods we tried were never questionable. Simply delicious and as a suggestion, begin this tour ready to eat.
An awesome tour, great way to experience the food, culture, and history of Cuenca. True local flavors and an excellent guide in Christian. He can adjust the tour to your wishes and does an awesome job. Highly recommended!
Cristian was absolutely amazing! He was extremely knowledgeable about Ecuadorian culture, history and food. We had such a great experience trying many different street foods and at small local restaurants, most of which we would never have tried by ourselves. If you want an authentic Ecuadorian experience then I would highly recommend this tour! It is one of the best tours we’ve ever done!
Our group booked a private tour and were treated to a fabulous evening around Cuenca with our guide, Cristian. He was knowledgeable, showed us fantastic spots around the city and taught us not only about the food, but the history, architecture and culture. Would absolutely recommend 10/10, it’s a great way to explore the city.
We had a great tour with Flávio who was a very knowledgeable guide. He encouraged us to taste a ton of local food and told us all about it. We loved hearing about life in Cuenca as well as the history of the city. The only thing I would say is it’s probably best to do in the day as more street food stands will be open but we still had a great time. Thank you Flávio!
We had a fabulous guide Flavio he gave us so much information on the city and it's history my head was buzzing, in a good way. We started in the market with some amazing freshly made fruit juices accompanied by some local food one of which we liked and the other I would ten as interesting , but that is what food tours are about trying something you wouldn't normally eat! Flavio gave as an insight into the French influence on food and bread and how it came about, he also gave photo tips and my iPhone photography has improved considerably, we explored the key locations and the architecture and history A highlight was the visit to the Panama hat factory, we had planned to go on our own, but this was so much better as Flavio brought it alive and we now understand why a hat can be a few hundred dollars to a few thousand, the view from the coffee shop on the top floor is also something to see. We stopped for sweets as well , which were delicious , I did buy a couple more :) there was a delicious coffee stop as well. I would recommend this tour as a great starting point to get a feel for the city and it's food, we did it on our first morning .
A surprise. The Cuencan restaurant scene is slowly recovering from Covid. There is no finer example of this than a new Japanese restaurant called Bonsai. It brings a Lima level of this cuisine to our little town. The dishes are varied and extremely well presented. They have a choice of Ramen noodle dishes that are varied and wonderful. Service is fast. It brings Japanese cuisine to a new height here.
Diego has a wonderful knowledge of the history, culture and food of Cuenca. We were able to sample a variety for foods throughout the historic center. We visited a market, sample espuma similar to ice cream plus had tamales. He was very accommodating, pleasant and polite
Due to some confusion, we had Eddy for both the day/ historic tour as well as the food tour. Which was fantastic because there was so much to see, do, and eat and because Eddy was so knowledgeable and fun! We went to the market which is unbelievable! We had different kinds of fruit and sampled some of the street food. We also had wonderful artisan chocolate, and though we didn’t eat it on the tour, Eddie arranged for us to have cuy in the best place in Cuenca the next night. Believe it or not, one of the best things we had was a hot dog. But it’s not just any hot dog. They take their hot dogs seriously, and even if you’re a skeptic, just try it. You can thank me later!
So much fun and we got to see so much of the city! We had food coma after the tour but Eddie showed us all the different foods that Cuenca had to offer and you could get them or not! No pressure at all. So much good amazing food. Highly recommend.
It's the best way to learn about the local food scene and culture. I had a wonderful experience with my guide Edi who answered all my questions. He was punctual and professional in handling the tour. I enjoyed tasting a variety of Ecuadorian food with insight to the origins of the cuisine.
It was very nice. We tried many different Snacks like Tortillas, drinks, chocolates etc. And we also knew the city. I can recommend it!
El guía excelente, gran carisma y mucho conocimiento. Los sitios de comida muy tradicionales y delicioso. Un único consejo, no desayunen antes de este tour ya que comida no faltará
We were with Cristian on a gastronomic tour of the city of Cuenca. It was sensational, as we had the opportunity to learn about the nuances of local cuisine, which allowed us to understand more about the city's culture. I highly recommend the street food tour.
We had a very competent guide with Flavio, we walked with him through the beautiful streets of Cuenca, he could answer all our questions. Besides, he's very personable. We had a wonderful time.
