Diego picked me up from my hotel on time. In fact 10 minutes early. Punctuality is highly appreciated from me. His car was clean and comfortable and he was a careful and courteous driver. Very friendly conversation with a lot of general info just on our drive to Cajas national park. We made a stop at a glorious location where after I visited the little museum there, went in a nice hike. Maybe 3-4 miles. He was super informative and knowledgeable about the terrain, wildlife and fauna. He pointed out done many things I would not have noticed without his experiences eyes. It was clear that Diego is passionate and makes every effort to share his knowledge, which is impressive. Diego is a credit to his profession and a great representative of the Ecuadorian country and people who live and work in Cuenca. I highly recommend a private tour with him and if it’s an indication of the people who work for his company, I would not hesitate to encourage anyone to take a tour of El Cajas. He then took me to a nice little place for a local style lunch. We decided to call it a day, after the non stop rain. ( yes I got soaked, like a knucklehead, I left my rain jacket in the car as when we arrived it was a nice day.) He dropped me off at my hotel and afterwards I realized I forgot my water bottle and he was kind enough to bring it to me, even though he reminded me to not forget anything. Fun Day

We had an incredible time with Moises; he was very knowledgeable about the park, and he shared a lot of great info about Ecuador as a country. He picked us up on time, and it was a great experience overall.
Our guide to Las Cajas was Sebastian. We had a great hike together and he had so much ti share from the amazing nature and history of the area. We are incredibly grateful for his time. Its experiences like we had with him that will keep us coming back to beautiful amazing Ecuador! Oh, as a bonus he spent over a year in PA, so while he had a wonderful accent, he spoke perfect english.
The Cajas National Park full day tour with Cristian was exceptional - we were really impressed with not only the beauty of the national park, but also with his knowledge of Cuenca, Ecuador, and Caja National park. The overall experience was outstanding! We would highly recommend tour with Cristian specifically for anyone who goes to Cuenca, thank you 😊

Cajas is an incredible place and absolutely worth going. I think it's easy enough to go yourself but I enjoyed learning about the ecosystem and history throughout the hike and while visiting the other viewpoints. Eddie was a great guide - punctual, informative, and patient.
Amazing day in Cajas National Park. The scenery is spectacular, and the tour was very well organized. Our guide, Edison, was excellent: knowledgeable, friendly, and genuinely passionate about the park. He shared interesting context about the landscape, plants, wildlife, and history, while keeping the pace relaxed and enjoyable. Would definitely recommend this tour with Edison!
Sebastian went out of his way to inform us about everything we Encountered , on our hike , he knew all about the flora animals and helped provide a history of the area and peoples
Edison was a wonderful guide! By the end of the hike he felt like a friend. He’s extremely knowledgeable about the plants, animals, geology, and folklore of the areas. Absolutely would recommend!
Moises was exceptional! He came on time, I told him that I am interested in plants so he pointed out any interesting plants. He knew names of all plants and birds. I had a full day tour so he took me on a 7+ mile up and down hike around the Cajas National Forest. He was mind full of my pace and helped me to take great pictures.
We had a great day out with Wilson showing us the beauty of Parque Nacional Cajas. Plenty of stops to admire the scenery and learn about the history, flora and fauna. Highly recommend Wilson’s friendly and informative guidance!
It was just a small group and our guide Diego. I want to say that Diego was great. He was very knowledgeable and informative about the flora, fauna, and the park in general. The hike itself was close to 3 hours and I'd say mild-medium difficulty if you have any kind of experience. Definitely one of the highlights if you are in the Cuenca region and worth a day's visit.
We had an excellent tour of Cajas National Park with Edison as our guide. He was very knowledgeable about the local plants, wild life, and history of the area and did a great job answering our questions leading our hike through the park. It really elevated the experience to get this kind of first hand local knowledge. I'd highly recommend this tour if you have the chance.
Amazing private tour with Edison in Las Cajas National Park. We learned so much about the area on our hike, enjoyed a delicious lunch, and finished with a great view of Cuenca. Highly recommend!
If you're planning a trip to Cajas National Park, choose Edison and Polylepis Tours! We were picked up from our hotel right on time, and the journey was safe and smooth. Our guide—who spoke excellent English—shared fascinating insights into Ecuador's flora and fauna, as well as its national traditions and culture. Beautiful scenery, fantastic hiking—and to top it all off, a delicious lunch at the end. Highly recommended!
Diego is a wonderful guide. Filled with knowledge about the special plants, flowers and condition in 4000 meter. Amazing tour, worth every cent
Moses arrived on-time for the pickup. He was knowledgeable & took breaks when he saw I needed one. Beautiful landscape. Elevation on the trail wasn’t too bad, but at 3800m, I was needing oxygen.
Small group, very funny and kind driver and guide. The landscape of cajas national park was so amazing, I think its a must when you are in Cuenca
The trip was very informative- you will be trekking at altitude so be aware of the strong uv. Sunscreen hat and water are essential. Sturdy boots, layered clothes and a small rucksack. It was about 3 hours but tailored to guests ability and desire. We visited 3 separate climates and altitudes the highest 4200m. The main trek at 3800m. We stopped for a great lunch as part of the deal and then visited the lower part of the valley. Diego our guide was excellent in every aspect.
Highly recommend this tour! Our guide Diego was super friendly and explained so many interesting things along the way – we learned a lot and felt very well taken care of. The nature was absolutely beautiful, and the whole tour was perfectly organized. The lunch was also really delicious and a great addition to the day. We had an amazing time and would definitely do it again!
The tour to Cajas national park was great! The tour guide Diego was very friendly and knowledgeable and the hike was spectacular.
Excellent tour of the national park! Our terrific tour guide (Pedro) was not only experienced in navigating the park but also had lots of great information about the natural environment. I would say the tour is best for hikers with medium level of fitness/experience - there are some steeper hills and rock scrambles but nothing unmanageable. The lunch add-on is definitely worth it. A lot of good food at a traditional Ecuadorian restaurant. The park itself is absolutely stunning - towering mountains, chilly lakes, marshes, forests, and out of this world fauna. Truly unmissable if you’re traveling in Ecuador.

Edison was our guide. He was very knowledgeable and spoke perfect English. We had a fantastic, perfect day.
Our guide Xavier had an impressive knowledge of the plant and bird life in the park. Wonderful scenic views of the mountains and the many lakes from over 4000 meters elevation. We opted for the one hour hike due to our lack of conditioning for the more strenuous two hour hike, but it was nevertheless rich with views and biodiversity.
Moises was a great guide and good companion. He clearly has a love of his job which is infectious. He was also good to converse with about life in Ecuador having worked in New York.
Moises was an excellent tour guide very knowledgeable about the plants and history of the park. We went on the perfect loop (about 3hrs) and were able to explore various areas of the park and appreciate its wildness by inhabiting the space. Would recommend for a group as is fun experience to share :) Be aware the elevation impacts and adjust accordingly
We had a fantastic time at Cajas National Park with Sebastián as our guide. He was wonderful — extremely knowledgeable, answered all of our questions and did an amazing job pointing out the unique flora and sharing the parks history. He also spoke about Ecuadorian traditions and culture, which made the tour not only an excellent hike, but a cultural experience as well. Cajas National Park is absolutely beautiful, lunch was delicious (the trout was excellent!) and Sebastián even gave us great suggestions for other things to see and do in Cuenca and along the coast of Ecuador. Highly recommend this tour and especially Sebastián!
Eddie was great. Super knowledgeable about the park and ecuador in general. Very friendly as well. We booked last minute and he was still able to accommodate us. Very lovely hike and amazing national park.
I had another fantastic tour today with Polylepis Tours. I had the privilege of hiking around Cajas National Park. It was time and money well spent! Eddie is very knowledgeable and really brings an education to tour visitors with the vegetation along with birds and wildlife. I highly recommend booking a tour rather than going here alone or in the company of others. Prepare to do plenty of hiking. Bring hiking shoes or really good quality sneakers along with snacks and water. I live in Colorado. Hiking The Andes is quite different but similar in other ways. I’m honored to say that I hiked The Andes! Again, I highly recommend this company. Having lunch at the end alongside a highway with gorgeous and delicious food was quite the bookend!
Wilson was a great guide, with good knowledge of the country, wildlife, the national park and the fauna that we passed (and football when it was brought up!). We were on a quiet trail away from the crowds and it was immensely peaceful. Would recommend
Edison was very knowledgable about the Cajas, abojt thr history of the park abd the ecosystem. He provided options at the end if you wanted an easier route back to the car. He also provided information of what else you can do in Ecuador!
The hike was amazing! Otherworldly. Our guide was very knowledgeable and explained many types of flora native to Ecuador. The hike was around 3 hours, it had rained the night before so many of the trails were muddy but doable. The Polylepis forest section of the hike was like being in a story book, it was nothing I had ever seen before. Really unique trees. Definitely worth a visit!
A perfect guide, who told us s lot about Cajas and Ecuador. Thanks that he did the trip for the normal price being the only two persons. It was a perfect day in Cajas. High recommend. Regards Trudy and Herman
We absolutely loved our tour of Cajas national park with Edison - he is so knowledgeable about nature and the park and tailored our walk to exactly what we required, one of the best days of our holiday so far. The park is beautiful and around every corner there is a beautiful view, on our way back we had time to visit the hat factory of Herman Ortega - what an experience we had, the family who owns it were in attendance and so helpful ,
We are staying in Cuenca for a week and so, of course, wanted to book a tour to beautiful Cajas National Park. We thought about tackling it independently but then decided to book with a tour (through Viator) and we are so pleased that we made this decision. Edison Juca was our guide and he was stellar. A truly professional guide with a wealth of knowledge about all things Ecuador. We learned so much and he answered any and all questions we had. He was patient with my partner who was suffering from the altitude. The Park is so worth visiting - a magical place. We added the lunch option - definitely worth it and you will be hungry after the hike. We would not hesitate to book with this company again and wish we’d booked with them for our trip from Quito to Baños instead of another company who disappointed.
Beautiful day with a great guide. Moises was incredibly kind with an immense knowledge of the ecosystem. The park was so amazing! We highly recommend this tour.
Wow, every turn on the trail was an amazing view. Rivers, lakes, mountains, floral, birds...it was all breathtaking. Moises, our guide, was a font of knowledge of the flora pointing out different species and telling us about their uses. He also knew a lot about the birds. I thoroughly enjoyed this hike.
A great trip with my guide, Diego, had a very good walk around Cajas national park at whatever pace I wanted and Diego was so knowledgable about all the plants and didn't mind at all about my constant stopping to take photos of the landscape!
Diego Parras of Polylepis tours was our guide and he provided us with an excellent day of hiking in the beautiful Cajas National Park. He was very knowledgeable about the fauna ans animal life in the park and was fun to talk with about life in Cuenca during our drive.
We had an excellent day trip with Edi. It was a small group of 3 people. He gave us some insights about the culture of Ecuador and especially about Cuenca. Arrived at the Cajas park we made a moderate hike and Edi explained us about the park, its history, the plants, lakes and the animals. He has a deep knowledge in plants and birds which he shared with us. We highly recommend this trip for your journey in Cuenca. Make sure that you are properly adjusted to the altitude, since the park is on 4.000 meters above sea level.
Really enjoyed the beauty of Cajas National Park! Our tour guide, Sebastian, was very knowledgeable about anything to do with the park and he was very patient with our questions and unrelated conversation. As senior citizens, we tolerated the high elevation pretty well! There were different choices of routes depending on personal abilities so you didn’t have to go anywhere you didn’t want to. Afterwards, we had an authentic Ecuadoran meal with Sebastian. I would highly recommend this tour. It really was the highlight of our 11 days in Cuenca!!
The park was beautiful and Diego was so knowledgeable about the flora, geology, park history. He was a terrific guide. Patient as I was going slower and he knew when to stop and share a bit of info about something interesting. He answered all our questions relating to the park and Ecuador too. We started at the highest point in the park and then walked for about 3 hours so we could see a wide range of the park trees and flowers at the different altitudes. The lunch of warm horchata. Beef soup, and trout was delicious too. Really an amazing day with a great guide - Diego.
My excursion to Cajas National Park was well organized and a great experience overall. All kudos to Wilson, my guide! He was very knowledgeable and shared many interesting insights about the park’s history and vegetation. He was also very attentive, regularly checking in to make sure I was doing well during the hike. I’d definitely recommend the tour, especially with Wilson as a guide.
Flavio was the best guide. He knows and shares much about the land. I enjoyed trekking solo with him all day. Very beautiful and difficult all day hike. The altitude is extreme but I would do it again for the fascinating landscape.
The Caja National Park hiking tour it's great. My tour guide, Edision is responsible to everyone. One of the tourist was vomit and he enaure her to go downhill immediately and get the car to pick her back to lower altitude place to rest and lunch. I enjoy the hike very much as we were very lucky to have good weather. No rain and not sunny. Perfect to hike. A day ago was raining and windy. The group only hike for 30 mins and return.
We had perfect day at Cajas National Park with our guide Edison. Pick-up on time. It has turned out that it is "private tour" as it was only our family. Still the tour was not cancelled like the one 3 days earlier in Quito. Edison adopted the plan to our interest in 100%.
I can't recommend Diego enough as a guide! From start to finish, he was incredibly knowledgeable, professional, and accommodating. I learned so much during our time together, and his expertise truly made the experience memorable. Diego clearly has a deep understanding of the area and its history, and he presented everything in an engaging and accessible way. If you're looking for a guide who goes above and beyond, Diego is your person!
It was a great experience overall. Our tour guide Moisés picked us up in the hotel and took us to the Las Cajas natural park. He asked us about our preferred duration and complexity of the hike. Moisés explained a lot about the local fauna & flora and was interested in our country as well. Overall we had a great time and would recommend it to everyone.
The views were amazing. Edison was super helpful in times of stress while my partner wasn’t feeling well. He was super educated and helpful. His english was very good and overall was a superb time.
