Very well planned tour. Gives you a fantastic insight into the impact and history of the island. Yiannas was a great guide, his personal connection to the battle of Crete and passion to pass on this knowledge was fantastic. Stelios’s collection of wartime oddities is another example of dedication to preserving the history of the people and the island.

Great tour and highly informative. Knowledgable and friendly guide. Locations were well chosen and good to get to places off the beaten track.
Whether your a historian or interested tourist this trip is brilliant. Door to door service from your hotel in a really comfortable mini van with our lovely knowledgable guide Yannis who is a natural.. friendly guy, happy to talk and explain anything from Crete / Greek history to Olives and of course the Battle of Crete. Food and water in route with an action packed day of the key battle sites. Excellent.
Great day out to see where operation mercury took place in 1941, stopped at both German and Commonwealth cemetery also a stop at an amazing collection of war time artifacts from the invasion. Our guide was brilliant and looked after us.
I really enjoyed the tour of the Maleme and surrounding battlefield sites, it was really something to stand on top of Hill 107 and imagine the chaos that occurred back in May 1941, not to mention seeing Stelios' incredible collection of WWII relics and the German and Commonwealth cemeteries which were both incredibly poignant given their locations. The group on the tour was nicely varied from a Grandson and Grandmother visiting from Australia to see her Father's former battleground, to a number of Brits like myself, a couple from the US and also one from Finland. Our guide was very knowledgeable regarding the history of both the local area and Crete in general and he provided us all with lunch and plenty of water.
Really interesting tour, guide was excellent ,couldn't have been any better!
George was an amazing guide: smart, incredible knowledgeable and accommodating. The trip was so interesting and fun. Highly recommend him!
I drove from Elounda to Chania for this tour and it was worth every minute of the three hour drive. Our guide, George, was unbelievably knowledgeable about every aspect of The Battle of Crete, from a military, political and social perspective. His commentary was outstanding and walking the ground of the significant sites of the battle was absolutely fantastic. I would recommend this without hesitation to anyone who has an interest in WW2. Thank you George and GS Tours. A brilliant experience.
George was an amazing tour guide. Very knowledgeable and knew the answer to every question we asked him. Would 100% recommend this tour to everyonw
A thouroly enjoy able and very interesting day
Our tour guide (George) was incredibly knowledgeable about not only the battles but of the deeper impacts the people of Crete endured during the occupation. Highly, HIGHLY recommend him!
Thank you to George for hosting my battle site tour on 28 May 2026. He was very helpful, friendly and knowledgeable. The tour was excellent. As a New Zealander the tour was perfect (with Hill 107, Maleme Airfield, Galatas, and 42nd St covered) and sensitively handled. Another highlight was visiting your collector with his amazing battle/historical relics and stories (That guy is a Greek national treasure!). The Commonwealth and Falschirmjager war graves sites were also very beautiful and moving.
Absolutely great day out, guide was fantastic very knowledgeable and friendly, great sites visited especially the private collection of artifacts, if you've read about the invasion of Crete this tour is a must, it brings the story to life, highly recommended! Thankyou for a brilliant and memorable day!
If you are reading these reviews I think you will enjoy this trip. Our guide Babbis, (not sure of spelling sorry) is knowledgeable and thoughtful about the history and humanity of these important events. A mixture of detailed history and personal stories, key events and locations will fascinate however much or little you already know. Enjoyed in the company of like minded travellers. Only one toilet stop early on so be prepared! I like coming to Crete so felt I had to see these places.
Excellent tour and knowledgeable guide. Visiting the battle sites and receiving insight as to how the battles were decided. Visiting the cemeteries of both the Allied and German forces were very special. Our guide was extremely patient and passionate about the history and made the entire tour thoroughly memorable and enjoyable. He cannot be thanked enough for his time and dedication. Highly recommend him and the tour.
Excellent excursion with such an informative and friendly guide. Would highly recommend. So much information and sites visited.
A brilliant tour. Pick up instructions and time clear and he arrived on time. The tour was very interesting and informative visiting all the locations mentioned and more. Janos the tour guide was brilliant.
I did the tour because my regiment had a squadron of tanks in Crete during the battle. The tour lived up to all expectations, Yannis, our driver and guide was excellent and very knowledgeable. A very good value for money tour..
Babis was an excellent guide - very knowledgeable and entertaining. The sites we visited during the tour provided us with a greater insight of the history and trauma experienced by both Cretans and allied forces during World War II.
Very interesting and our tour guide m, Ioannis, was spectacular. He knows what he’s talking about and is a really nice person!
Very comprehensive . Great tour guide . Well organised from enquiry until drop off. Good interchange within group
Great, trip! Would highly recommend. Yanis was Very knowledgeable and friendly. Transport fantastic, very comfortable.
Our guide was very friendly, extremely knowledgeable and spoke great English. A fascinating tour for a history novice like me and for my friend who knows all about WW1 & WW2. Highly recommended
Amazing tour! Learned so many different things! It really indulged my love for history! The views of the island were also beautiful, and the sandwiches were very tasty! Must do for Crete
Excellent, knowledgeable guide, very passionate about the subject. Friendly guide and a small group of 7 were very engaged. Comfortable transport and well paced.
Babis was incredibly knowledgeable and engaging. This tour was very educational and it was great to see the scenic east side of Crete. Highly recommend. Thank you for a great day!
Excellent guide and content. Nicely spaced out between drive time, outside time and breaks. Clear and informative. Only negative for my 13 year old is the lengthy duration. She would have been better on a half day tour perhaps covering fewer locations.
Very good, and informative experience for anyone interested in the battle Very well looked after too by our lovely driver Would definitely recommend 😉
Had a wonderful day with a very knowledgeable guide who gave us so much detail we hadn't heard about. Nice small group of respectful people. Would recommend this tour to anyone visiting Crete.
This battlefield tour was fabulous. Babis was an excellent guide and the company were very good at communicating - they even rang to warn us that they would be 10 minutes later than the expected pick-up time. Babis has a good command of English and is a careful driver. Food and water were provided and the minibus with its smoked glass windows was spotlessly clean. Having read several books about the battle, I was pleased that Babis was able to add many extra layers of detail to the story. He is, after all, a classicist and historian. In a shady spot, he gave us an illustrated talk using a book of maps and photographs which was very informative and interesting. It was good, too, to visit the sites which I had read so much about. When the owner of the private collection we visited found out from Babis that my father had fought in the battle, he said that there was a memorial to his regiment (1st Welch) 100 yards down the road. Babis kindly took us down to see it. I was moved to tears. Although it doesn't mention it in the itinerary on the website, the tour also takes in pivotal locations of the battle such as Galatas, the Ayia prison and 42nd Street. I am really grateful to Babis and Gs Tours for such a powerful experience.
Fantastic Battle of Crete tour. We would highly recommend to other World War II enthusiasts. Babis our tour guide had a wealth of knowledge and didn’t mind answering our many questions throughout. Absolutely brilliant, would definitely recommend to others. Thank you very much Babis, we really enjoyed the tour.
We had an amazing time. He was so informative bebis was his name The guide and he knew everything. Absolutely everything well worth going on this tour with these ones. Enjoy!
The guide brought us into the time period of the invasion and allowed us to see and understand the German invasion of Crete and the local resistance. Absolutely fascinating and terrific experience!
This tour is amazing. Very informative and easy to understand. Giannis is so friendly and knowledgeable and answered all our random questions (about the battle and Crete in general).
This was such a great excursion! Yannis was an excellent guide and really made history come alive! He has such a gift at telling the story and keeping you captivated! He is very passionate about his subject matter. We were thrilled with everything!!
This was a tour that had very personal significance for me. It certainly gave me a lasting impression and great respect for both the people of Crete and the soldiers involved in this time of war. The tour guide was very knowledgeable and handled the day with commendable sensitivity combined with warmth and humour.
Despite Babis (our guide) being a Liverpool supporter 😂 he gave us a memorable tour . He was very knowledgeable and engaging . My interest stemmed from Anthony Beevors book and the exploits of Patrick leigh Fermor. He brought it all to life. At Souda bay he even managed to arrange a fly past by Greek air force fighters. A fitting end to the tour .
Knowledgeable guide, comfortable transport, good coverage of the Maleme/Chania battlefield, including Hill 107. Much easier than trying to do it yourself.
We spent all day with George who runs Niriis Tours. George picked up at the cruise ship port and delivered us back on time. We toured the island and had a great lunch in the country side in addition to a very detailed WW2 tour. George took us to a private museum with lots of items from the battle that has been recovered on Crete as well as the cemetery where the allied casualties are buried. The tour also included a trip to the airport that was the focus of the German paratrooper attack. George is an expert on all of the history and the island, great resource.
I had previously read up on the battle but walking the ground made it all make much more sense. Yanis the guide and the collector were both very informative and passionate about the subject. An incredible story.
Thank you Yannis for a fabulous guided tour of the Second World War battlefields of Crete. I can highly recommend this tour. Jan Fast Battlefield-/Conflict archaeologist
We had booked a half day Battlefield Tour for 20th September, the pre tour arrangements were conducted seamlessly and our guide Babis duly arrived. Babis was the perfect tour guide, his knowledge was most impressive and he was instructive, patient and extremely personable throughout. It was a most enjoyable experience.
Small group made it friendly and intimate and allowed plenty of time for questions and photos. The air conditioned private car with water and lunch was a real bonus on a very hot day. There was a lot of information about the battles and sites which really brought them to life. A really interesting tour and great guide.
We were going to be late( roadworks), rang them, they swapped pickup point.. no problem at all. Our guide Babis, was fantastic, his knowledge, maps, battle plans etc, were first class.. he bought it all to life , especially for me as my Grandfather had been there during the war. The visit to the collector with all his relics was pretty amazing. Recommended.
Very informative tour, Excellent guide in Babsis. Apologies if I spelt the name wrong. Very moving that so many young men gave their loves. So we can enjoy freedom of the modern world.
A truly amazing and interesting experience about the WWII-history of Crete. Our guide Yannis was brilliant and knowledgable. Together with Yannis we had an incredible day visiting many different places where events took place during the invasion of Crete. We got the opportunity to see both cemeteries, bunkers and museums. All together with Yannis vivid storytelling about the events, we got a very deep understanding about the history and resistance of the Cretan people. Excellently planned day with a comfortable vehicle and a stop for a complimentary sandwiches and drinks included. Could not have been more satisfied with the day. Thank you!
Battle of Crete Small group in a comfy aircon Touran. Yannis our guide was incredibly knowledgable and easy going, making everyone feel relaxed at the beginning before going into more detail about the history we were there to learn more about. I not only learnt so much about the Battle of Crete but also about the modern history of Crete itself. We visited a bridge, airfield and hill to the west of Chania. At the hill, and after exploring a British built bunker, Yannis took us through folders of maps, setting the scene to the Battle before going into detail about the key people involved and some of their stories. We then moved onto the German cemetery, visited a local historian who’s collected thousands of artefacts from the Battle and occupation, before stopping at the 42nd Street Memorial and the Allied Cemetery in Souda Bay. It was a lot of information to process, but as someone who’s grandfather fought in the Battle it was incredibly interesting, moving, and thought provoking. I cannot thank Yannis enough for conveying brilliantly the Battle and occupation. A day I’ll always remember.
Excellent trip. Our guide Giannis was superb. Very knowledgable about the topic, delivering the information with empathy. He was able to answer our many many questions. Passionate about this subject, all history and his island home in general. A great guy!! Particularly enjoyed the visit to the collectors home.
Super interesting tour with visits to battlefields, museum and cemetaries. We had knowledgeable and friendly guides, that really seemed to care. Highly recommended👍
Babis our guide was passionate about the history of this battle and made every place come alive with information/ pictures and interesting stories! Our group were all from New Zealand and we learnt so much from him! Highly recommended!
