An unmissable tour. Katarina was so enthusiastic, deeply knowledgable and kind. We really appreciated the information and stories she presented about the rich past of Crete and the Minoan Civilization. Being at Knossos really surprised me and was truly one of the most special places I've ever visited, but a great guide is essential here. Going into the second part of the tour we felt we couldn't get any better -- Ary was so knowledgable about Heraklion and it's more recent past and truly took us to some great spots all over the city. One of the best tours I've ever taken.

Thanks to Akrivi we had a fantastic time visiting both the Heraklion Archaeological Museum and the Knossos palace. Akrivi waved together the history and mythology, explained in detail all aspects of Minoan civilization and made us to travel back in time, to learn and appreciate the achievements of Minoans, the first Mediterranean civilization. It is totally worth to book both tours together , otherwise you will be missing the complete picture.Especially if you are a small group/family you should not miss this tour; it is not just a tour it is time travel !
We spent a wonderful day with Ioanna at Knossos Palace and the Archaelogical Museun of Heraklion. Was a memorable tour with a smart and very professional tour guide, passionate with her job and knowledge on so many topics. We highly recommend Ioanna she was incredible.
Went to visit and was pretty disappointed. Long lines, poor maintenance and a real lack of quality explanations. They like to complain about the misinterpretation of the guy who discovered it but haven't done anything to really improve it.
My guide (Joanna) was a breath of fresh air. From start to finish her presentation of ancient and historical information admist the backdrop of artifacts and ruins made for a truly enjoyable experience. She was easy to talk to and even though you knew you might not be as educated, she was very courteous. I imagine that it must get tiresome with repeat tours keeping the energy up but Joanna never made it seem that way. The best guide for one of my favorite sites.
Joanna Glyptis was our tour guide. Rather than following typical protocol of providing historical facts she offered her own view on the history of humanity from a different prospective. I was afraid to miss a single word from her presentation. We highly recommend her for open minded and independently thinking people. We travel a lot and we have learned that guides of this level of professionalism are almost nonexistent.
One of the highlights from our two-week vacation in Greece. In fact, our tour of Knossos and the Archeological Museum was such an enlightening excursion that we asked to schedule another private tour on the following day of nearby Phaestos. Both tours gave us amazing value for the price. Why a guide? Knowledge about the Minoan sites and their significance to ancient Greece is incomplete, and guidebooks can be misleading. Our wonderfully, entertaining and scholarly guide, Joanna, shared up-to-date facts, as well as theories, about the sites (and their surrounding geography) based on the latest archaeological and anthropological scholarship. Our time exploring Minoan culture and artifacts was unforgettable - thanks to our guide. Booking through Viator was easy. The tour operator, Foniadakis Travel Center, also great to work with.
This tour was phenomenal. Johanna didn't simply walk us through the Knossos site and the museum, she walked us through history, anthropology, and sociology, while highlighting the impact of cultural bias on assumptions and interpretation. It was education, not simply relaying information, and days later, and I am actively researching elements of the history, philosophy and interpretation of what she exposed us to. The city tour was a fun added element (and we were shown where to go for great Mezze later that night!).
Johanna was an excellent guide and I enjoyed her erudite explanations and the links she made from our morning visit to Knossos to the exhibits in the museum. I highly recommend this tour.
We booked our tour through our hotel last minute. We were slightly anxious at being able to book so last minute in the height of tourist season - what kind of guide would be left.... However, we need not have worried. We had the highly knowledgeable, passionate and lovely Christianna. She brought her thorough knowledge to bring Minoan Times to life. She guided us through the museum and palace with ease answering a multitude of questions from my husband with patience and kindness. I would highly recommend taking a guide to see these sites. Definitely choose These guides! One of the most informative guides we’ve ever had. Thank you again, Christianna.
Excellent guided walking tour with an amazing guide (Kalypso) that really knows how to take you back in time
I highly recommend this tour. Our guide, Johanna, was very knowledgable and made it a truly educational experience.
Absolutely superb, wonderfully informative with humour chucked in. Would recommend to anyone ! Was incredibly hot so would recommend the morning tour !
This set of ruins was recreated/improved about one hundred years ago. I really wouldn't recommend it visiting this. It was based on the excavator/hitsorian's theory.
This was a highly informative and interesting tour with a very professional, friendly and knowledgeable guide. Highly recommended and well worth the price.
Everything about WeGuide was outstanding. Right at the get-go I had a problem signing up online for a tour, and sending an email to WeGuide quickly resolved the problem. As far as the tour conducted by Joanna is concerned this was the highlight of my trip to Greece. My tour consisted of the Palace at Knossos, a walking tour of downtown Heraklion, and a guided tour of the Archaeological Museum of Heraklion. I’ve wanted to see Knossos for close to 60 years, and the tour did not disappoint. Indeed, as a tour guide Joanna is a Renaissance Woman, knitting together history, archaeology, art, religion, and sociology. She is articulate and is not content to settle for pat answers, as was evident at both Knossos and at the Museum. Furthermore, people in other tour groups and at the Museum appeared to be fascinated with Joanna’s narrative. The WeGuide drivers were all friendly. I highly recommend WeGuide and will use them again if I ever return to Crete.
We had read was 6 euro entry but was actually 15 euro. There is not much of the building left standing so for us we felt was a high price to look at what was left of the walls and foundations. So if you want to kill some time, or perhaps you have a broader imagination of architecture than us, then perhaps you may enjoy it.
Excellent guide!! Thorough, knowledgable, organized. She knew how to work around the large group tours to give us good views. She turned a pile of rocks into the story of an ancient culture. The museum tour was also excellent. She helped us zero in on the highlights. Our group was only three people. Worth every euro.
Excellent guide. She knew how to work around other groups at the site, Knossos Palace and Archaeology Museum in Heraklion. Low season for tourists but she was adept at focusing on years of expansive information and tying everything together for us to walk away with richer understanding. Personable.
We visited the Knossos palace with a guide as part of a cruise visit to Heraklion. The site was interwsting, lots to see and lots of steps, hills etc so if you are a little unsteady, this is not the trip for you. We then went down to the Archaelogical museum whic although much smaller than the museum at the Acropolis in Athens is very similar in a lot of ways - just smaller. We had the same guide for this too and to be honest we preferred looking at the large number of artefacts on our own. It was interesting to see how Crete fits into Greek history.
If you enjoy learning the history of a place you visit, this was a must see! The guide was excellent and accommodating, as the other couple was late and we waited for them and my boyfriend had hurt his foot and she pointed out places he could rest while she spoke of all the great historical things that took place at Knosses Palace and the rich history housed in the archeological museum. You could tell the guide loved what she did!
My husband and I highly recommend this tour, especially if you are lucky enough to have IoIoanna as your guide. Our tour was on September 12th which happened to be on a day when it was very crowded due to the cruise ships, but Ioanna navigated us through this with grace and ease. She used the time while waiting in a line at one point of the tour giving us a very interesting and thorough explanation of the history, the philosophy, and culture of the Minoan people. I was so intrigued by her explanation that I didn’t even notice the passage of time. She was extremely knowledgeable and actively engaged us in the tour, asking questions and getting us to think. For the Heraklion Archeological Museum, we ended up being the only ones left on our tour and then had Ioanna as our private guide! She gave us a fascinating tour through the museum, highlighting the important artifacts and tieing all the pieces together for us. I have been on many tours over the years and this tour was by far one of my favorites!
Ioana from We Guide was awesome! She has a deeper understanding of the significance of the “palace” to human history. Her explanation of Evan’s mis-interpretations were clear and succinct! The museum visit tied everything together to the morning visit to the “palace.” Things to consider: 1. You are responsible for transportation to and from both places. We were fortunate to get a ride from a couple that had also booked the afternoon tour so ask around, make friends :) 2. Admission to the palace and museum are extra. Bring cash 16 euro.
I was lucky enough to be on a tour that includes a visit to Knos Palace, the Archaeological Museum and the town of Heraklion. Joanna is a delightful guide! Very exciting tour and not boring at all! I recommend that all those who want to not only see one of the main attractions of Greece, but also learn more about Greek culture, philosophy, traditions in general. Great!
