Chose KnossosGuides.com based on reviews and some research. Was not disappointed. The communication about the tour, cancellation policy, etc was excellent, and it was very easy to find the guide. We picked a 9am tour (and got there early and entered about 8:45am) to avoid the heat and the tours, and this was a great idea---by the time we left at 11:15 the place was packed. We did not book a private tour, but we effectively got one, as there was one guide (name Avliki?) and the three of us. She was excellent, very informative, and provided lots of interesting and relevant background. After 90 mins the tour ended, and we looked around the site some more by ourselves. Overall, highly recommend this tour.

This a great tour which makes the palace come to life. It’s excellent value for money, I don’t think we would have got anything like the understanding we left with if we had just done a self guided tour.
It was worth being guided - we learnt a lot and really enjoyed the tour. Our guide was knowledgeable, enthusiastic and knew how to avoid the large groups visiting the palace.
I asked for an early tour, my guide worked on the site also. She had intimate knowledge of the excavations and discoveries. This allowed for little known details… but the tour went quickly and I’d be remiss if I didn’t say I felt like I may have missed some things. It was an expensive tour, for the amount of time spent. I feel I would have benefited from the audio tour.
Our small group of 5 with Catarina as a guide was very informative. She was extremely knowledgeable making the tour very interesting.
Our tour guide was extremely knowledgeable and up to date on the latest archeological developments of the site which has over turned the traditional theories that came from the 1800s. She was also just an excellent guide keeping us ahead of the large groups.
We had an absolutely fabulous tour of Knossos (2 adults and 2 kids aged 10 and 13)! Akrivi was an exceptional guide - super engaging (including for our kids) with a truly impressive knowledge of the archaeology, mythology, and political history, including very recent discoveries. She taught us so much that we never would have noticed or learned without the tour and did a great job weaving together what was believed about the site when it was first excavated, what archaeologists have since discovered, and how it connected to ancient Minoan and Greek cultures. Fantastic experience!
This was a great opportunity to tour the palace grounds and learn about the Minoin culture. Our tour guide was on point and got us through with her knowledge and humor. Highly recommend this tour if you have any interest in Greek culture and history.
wonderful experience. the place is a maze and there are many things you would very easily overlook if you didn't book a guide. our guide is a current archeologist working on the site and had plenty of stories about the process and findings. totally worth visiting such an impressive part of history
All around excellent. Very informative and our guide was very personable and really knew his stuff. We went at 5pm so there were less crowds and didn’t have contend with the mid day heat.
Really interesting and enjoyable visit our guide was brilliant. So much more information and enjoyment gained with the guide that you wouldn’t get from visiting alone highly recommended
Our guide was very knowledgable, extremely helpful in navigating the crowds. and provided in-depth information that made our experience very memorable in the best ways
It was a great tour. Our guide was very informative and told the history of the site with lots of knowledge to impart. I really didn’t know much about the site or the history of Crete before I came, so it was great to have a guide who knew so much.
Fantastic tour. Tour guide was very knowledgeable. The small tour group (3 people) allowed the guide to tailor the tour
Katerina was amazing - as was the sight. She’s extremely knowledgeable and dramatic. I hope you get her as your guide!
We were fascinated by the narrative provided by our most informative and passionate guide. AKRIVI was our guide. Her level of knowledge and professorial presentation skill is exceptional and amazing. The description of information was presented as a narrative story with phenomenal detail. This tour provided the perspective of history and mythology of the Minoan Civilization capturing and exceeding my wildest expectations. I have had fascination with the Minoan Civilization as my Papou was born in Santorini. Thank you for spurring further fascination and desire to do my own further research and reading. We enjoyed touring the Knossos Palace with our wonderful guide, Akrivi. She was so knowledgeable about the site and the history and the Greek mythology - a gifted story telling who brought the ruins to life. She seemed to love her job and her enthusiasm was truly enjoyable. We followed up our tour with a visit to the Archaeological Museum in Heraklion where we saw some of the original pieces from Knossos. After seeing the reproductions at the palace, that was a delight. A great tour! Well done, Akrivi!
Our guide Katarina was very informative & spoke clearly. We had no problem taking the local bus to/from the meeting point at the archeological site & the guided tour started on time. A later visit to the Heraklion Archeological Museum by ourselves complemented the tour perfectly.
Great to have such a knowledgeable and capable guide who took us through the complex and educated us well! Everything g went smoothly from start to finish.
Our guide was excellent and gave us so much information about the site and local history that isn't available to those opting for general admission. Not the cheapest option but well worth the additional cost to fully appreciate the story of Crete.
I thoroughly enjoyed this wonderful and informative tour. Our guide, an experienced archaeologist guided us through the Knossos complex with perfect pacing, knowledge, and skill.
Our tour guide Katerina was so knowledgeable, fun, and made a real effort to appeal to both the adults in the group, like my friends and I, as well as to the families who had brought their tween/teen kids. It was very informative
Fantastic tour of beautiful archaeological site. Our tour guide Katerina was phenomenal. She brought to life the story of the Minoans and the mystery of the labyrinth. Highly recommend.
Fantastic guide who brought the story of the history and mythology of Knossos brilliantly to life. Very knowledgeable and great communicator
We booked a private tour with Knossos Guides which was easy to do online. We arrived at the site and were quickly introduced to our guide, Thalia. She is an excellent guide and really brought Knossos alive with her knowledge and insights. We cannot recommend Thalia highly enough. The tour was really worth the extra.
We enjoyed our tour guide. She was very knowledgeable. We learned so much from our guide. We would recommend this tour. It’s fantastic to learn about true history.
Our guide was very knowledgeable on all aspects of the site and gave us an excellent narrative on both the archeological history and the mythology associated with the palace.
Our tour guide was amazing! Tremendously knowledgeable about the history, archeology, mythology and culture of the site and the era. The small group, there four of us, made it easy to ask questions and soak in the information.
Katerina is a terrific guide - very knowledgeable about the Minoans and Mycenae: their history, their religious and cultural traditions and differences, how the Minoans brought water to the palace and created ‘modern’ plumbing, and what happened to the Minoans. She is wonderful at getting people to imagine life at the Palace and on Crete 3500 years ago.
Our guide made the visit so interesting and fun. We learned a lot of the palace and the people of the area. I would highly recommend this tour.
Very informative tour with a guide who truly brought the history of the area to life with her depth of knowledge.
Unless you are happy wandering around ruins without any idea what you are looking at, book a guide. We had a group of only 7. The whisperers were barely needed but nice to have. Also advise buying the ticket through them as it made it all super easy and efficient when we arrived.
I cannot imagine seeing such a significant historical sight without a knowledgeable guide like Akrizi. She was excellent. It was a super hot day so she kindly brought us to shade to be more comfortable. I highly recommend this tour if you are in the area.
Our trip to Knossos was amazing and was made altogether better by our fantastic guide Akrivi . She really brought the site to life with some good ideas about the potential significance of the myths and legends connected with this site and early European civilisation . I would totally recommend making a trip here and booking an official guide .
Very well organized and informative tour. Our guide (Akrivi) was excellent! Just the right amount of information. Easy to find meeting point and delivered as expected!!
This was the best tour I’ve ever been on because of our tour guide we had. Her tour was extraordinary, in how she told the tale of history and mythology surrounding the site. She was so engaging and knowledgeable, a true story teller. I would give her more stars if I could!!!
Our tour guide was great, she was very informative and personable. We came early for the tour and she was as well so we were able to begin early. She answered all of our questions and then some. You need to book a guide when visiting in order to appreciate the site.
Our guide for a private tour was Akrivi. She was excellent. Akrivi made the palace come alive, interpreting the daily activities and ceremonies, as well as having a great respect for the accomplishments of this amazing culture.
Excellent Tour with Akrivi! Everything went very smoothly with this tour. Akrivi was an excellent guide; very knowledgeable and entertaining. Highly recommended!
We really love the tour. It is so informative and so small group (this time onlt 4 people) so we got to know the deep history of Crete abf the intertwined interpretation of history and mythology
This was a very informative tour. I would say the only way to see these historical sites is to have a guide. Our guide was excellent and knowledgeable.
The tour was great, arrived early to avoid confusion and hassles, so had time for coffee and juice near the entrance before the tour. Tour was very informative, lasted anout 1.5 hrs. Guide was knowledgable and personable.
Joanna, who was our tourguide for the day, did an amazing job. She provided us with very detailed information whilst explaining in a vivid and catching manner. She gave insight into the historical and cultural contexts, involving language and social development that went beyond Cretan history, therefore offering to see the bigger picture. You can tell Joanna has a profund knowledge and she was very open to answer questions and discuss different aspects.
Our tour lasted 90 mins and we met our guide at the iron gates near the entrance - she spoke perfect English and provided each of our party (4 adults and 2 children) with a wireless receiver and a disposable earpiece so we could hear her clearly when she spoke. The tour was excellent, explaining the relationship between the Minoan builders of Knossos and the Greek mythology that emerged long after the site was abandoned. The guide was relaxed and comfortably answered all our questions. We took the first tour at 09:00 - but it was still very hot and a hat and sunscreen are essential - once the crowds start arriving queues quickly form in the sun Not really suitable for very young children, but a must-do to get some understanding of how both the Greeks and the 20th Century archeologist, Evans, miss-interpreted the role of the labyrinth…
Just finished visiting the Palace of Knossos. Sofia, our guide, was friendly, engaging, and very knowledgeable! Thank you ☺️
Today we took a guided tour of the palace of Knossos with Maria, a guide who speaks very good Italian, very nice and captivating. She even managed to involve our 8-year-old son. A TOP highly recommended guide!!!!
Get there early enough to find parking. The complex can be visited quickly without a guide. There is also an opportunity to eat.
Beautiful visit, site very well preserved to say that it is 3500 years old , place full of history but on the site no info in French if you want you have to buy an audio guide or rent the services of a guide. We found the price 15 euros l entry a little expensive but it's still worth it
