The experience was amazing from start to finish! The visit to Knossos was self-guided, but the audio guides provided all the information we needed to fully enjoy and understand the site. The olive oil farm was lovely! It’s a family-run business producing high-quality olive oil, and everyone was incredibly kind and attentive. However, the winery and raki distillery were the highlight of the tour. It was a small, authentic, family-run business with handmade products and genuinely warm, down-to-earth people. You can really taste the passion and care they put into their products, especially in the quality of the wine. Lunch was also delicious, served at a traditional taverna in a small village. The homemade food was the perfect way to end the day. I highly recommend this tour to anyone who wants to discover the authentic side of Crete, experience its local traditions, and meet the wonderful people behind its family-run businesses. A truly memorable experience!

Itinerary
This is a self-guided tour. The Palace of Knossos, Crete’s Bronze Age marvel, was the center of Minoan civilization (2000–1400 BCE). This sprawling 20,000 sq. meter complex featured advanced architecture, early plumbing, and vivid frescoes like the "Bull-Leaping" scene, reflecting Minoan culture. The "Throne Room" and labyrinthine layout suggest religious and administrative significance, possibly inspiring the Minotaur myth. Excavated by Arthur Evans, its partial reconstructions let visitors experience Europe’s oldest city firsthand. A key archaeological site, Knossos reveals Minoan innovation and artistry long before classical Greece. (598 characters)
**A Taste of Crete: Exploring an Olive Grove Farm** Visiting a Cretan olive grove is a journey into the island’s ancient traditions. Strolling among gnarled, centuries-old trees, you’ll feel the deep connection between the land and generations of farmers. Knowledgeable guides explain the harvest, pressing, and cultural significance of olive oil—revealing how age-old methods meet modern techniques to create "liquid gold." The highlight? A sensory tasting session. You’ll sample fresh extra virgin oils, noting their aromas, flavors (from fruity to peppery), and golden hues—often paired with crusty bread, herbs, or local cheese. Many farms also sell their oils, letting you take home a taste of Crete. More than just a tour, it’s an immersion into a timeless way of life, where quality and sustainability thrive. 10/10 do not miss out. This was the most inclusive small operation trip with the most experienced driver!
It was a lovely small group experience. We met local people knowledgeable in their fields. I got an overview of local life.
This tour was a great way to experience Crete in a day - had a bit of everything, history, olive oil, wine, raki and village lunch. Really good value way to see all these things. The trip was a lot of fun! Yannis our driver was a laugh and made us all feel welcome. Especially loved the family run winery, Leo and his family also made us feel very welcome there, great wine too. Village lunch also delicious. Would definitely recommend this trip!
A highlight of our trip to Crete. Tony was a wonderful guide and made us feel so welcome. Knossos was a wonder but the best part of the tour was meeting the people. The olive oil factory and winery (Leo was amazing) will stand out as top memories of our trip to Greece. And lunch at a really local taverna was incredibly enjoyable. Thank you so much, Tony, for an excellent day.
The Karapidakis family winery welcomes you into their home. Fantastic wine too. The olive oil was a formal tour, good to learn how olive oil is made. Encourage you to learn about Knossos before arriving or pay for a guide at the gate to understand what you are seeing. Overall a highlight of our vacation.
Best part of our vacation. Supporting very small business. A son and wife bee keeping farm- tasting their honey fresh out of the hive. The Karapidakis Family Winery brings you into their homey wine house and make you part of their family. The wine was top notch too. Encourage you to read beforehand about Knossos or pay for a guide at the entrance to understand what you are seeing. Of all the tours we have taken over the years, this is one of the best.
My wife and I had a blast! Our driver and guide Tony was fantastic! He is very knowledgeable about local history and culture which was so helpful between each of our stops. He is also incredibly friendly and welcoming which made the trip so much fun. The small group format is the way to go! We had 2 other couples in our group and it was so cool to get to share this experience with others from slightly different cultures. 10/10!
Absolutely wonderful experience, from start to finish:) we would highly recommend
It was the best day. Would recommend it for everybody visiting Crete. We had so much fun and our group was amazing and the perfect size. Our tour guide and driver was just amazing and so funny. We will be back with our families to take the same tour.
This was our favorite day of our trip! Would absolutely recommend to anyone coming to Crete. Everything was great but the highlight was the local family owned winery. They welcomed us like one of their own! It was a super special experience. Our only complaint is that we wished it was longer! 9am-4pm flew by but was such a packed day of local. Don’t miss this if you come to Crete! Couldn’t recommend more.
It was a fantastic experience. The olive oil tour was extremely informative and the olive oil is quite different from what we find in the states. It was fun to try the different kinds and we all left with several bottles. The winery was the highlight of the tour. À family run winery that only sells its bottles in Greece. We took the tour with the owner, Leo and got to meet his family. The winery was was VERY delicious. The Knossos palace is a must see for history buffs but the guide we hired outside of the gates was average at best. I recommend going to the Heraklion Archaeological museum first to learn about the palace and then going to Knossos. You will not need a guide and the site will be way more interesting.
Great guide, terrific food, lovely wine and raki tasting, and interesting olive oil factory and olive oil tasting. Thanks Yanni.
What a wonderful time we had. Our day started at knossos palace and it was easy to explore without a guide. We then went to a local olive oil family owned company and were able to see from start to finish the production of olive oil. We sampled the oil and it was well worth it. Afterwards we went to a home of a local beautiful family owned winery and were educated on wine and raki production. We sampled the different wines and treated like family. Finally we stopped at a local tavern with quite a delicious lunch drinks and dessert. Our driver Gianni was thorough funny and a great driver. He gave us a lot of information and was a pleasure to be in his company.
It was a great time learning more about Crete!
Local, traditional, and family crafts-manship. Olive oil and Raki manufacturing in a traditional and adapting new methods and techniques.
The tour was incredible. We learned a lot about their wine making process and each wine we tried was delicious. Recommend adding the cheese platter for a perfect lunch
We decided to do a wine tour at the last second in the morning of our tour. Mr. Yanni was able to pick us up from our hotel and take us to the Tatakis winery as the original winery was not able to fit us in with our last second booking. Yanni was amazing conversation to the winery and we had such a fantastic time. Would highly recommend Yanni and LocalTrips4U for anyone wanting to drinking some amazing Cretan wine and have a great time!
Was a very cool adventure. Luxury pickup and transportation and a very nice afternoon at the winery. I would recommend it to couples.
I am so pleased that I booked this experience, it added local culture, delicious wine and food and stunning views to our trip to Crete. Domaine Paterianakis is a wonderful family business making organic wines in a breath takingly beautiful part of the world. The family running the winery were very welcoming and charming. We tasted 5 wines, which we chose and had a beautiful platter of local foods to go with it. Great value, super friendly and very interesting. Don't miss it!
Amazing experience, from arrival the staff at the winery were great and very pleasant. The tour was good and a lovely experience. The tour operator could do better with providing notice a bit early with regards to time of pick up, say two hours before or a day before. But the driver who picked us up was very good and had a decent AC!
A very well organised and great few hours wine tasting. The hosts are very welcoming and our guide was excellent and very knowledgeable. The vineyard itself was stunning with magnificent views and wines!!
Due to bad weather, we only had one full day in Crete. Having seen the waterfront areas of Hersonissos, we booked this afternoon tour to see more of the inland areas. The Winery was wonderful, with delightful tastings and a knowledgeable tour of the vineyards. The views were lovely too. So glad we went!
The friendliest of faces greeted us on this gem of a find so close to Heraklion. We felt a world away here with incredible views and wines! If you're looking for a venture out from the town you must give them a visit. You won't be disappointed!
The vineyards, the staff, the views, the service and the wines cannot be beat. Also, being so close to Heraklion this is a visit that must be made. You will now be disappointed!
It was a extremely pleasant experience tasting the different flavors and robust textures of the winds they offer
We had a great time and the service was fantastic. Unfortunately we got canceled the day we choose but the next day they really did the little extra effort for us. Our driver and the host at the winery was 5-star. Worth it!
Nice trip to the interior of Crete. It is a small domain but the welcome was warm. We were given a small tour and then we were allowed to taste. Three white wines, one rosé and one red. It's all good. To conclude, we got a kind of raki.
