Our guide, Katerina, was an archeologist who has worked at the Knossos Palace site for many years. She was very knowledgeable, interesting, and animated. This was a much better way to see the site and learn the history than seeing the site on your own. The was a great tour for history lovers!

At the start of July, we went on a guided tour with Giorgios at the Palace of Knossos. Giorgios was a wonderful guide: he knew loads of interesting facts, answered all our questions and spoke perfect Italian. He made us feel very welcome and was extremely knowledgeable and kind. Highly recommended
A GREAT guide for a wonderful, knowledgeable tour. They even whisked us thru the ladies room line so we could be on time! Highly recommend. Small group and well done.
What a wonderful tour. Our tour guide was extremely knowledgeable and provided the history in a way that was easy to understand. I loved hearing that Minos actually a female ruler!
Our guide, Akrivi, was excellent. She was knowledgeable and enthusiastic helping the 90-min tour fly by. The tour staff were friendly and helpful, meeting us at the gate and quickly helping us get prepared for our tour. The price was a little steep for my tastes but it was money well spent as it brought a deeper experience to the ancient site.
Great tour with excellent information! Our guide was very informative and did a great job education us!
Our guide was wonderful!! So informative and the tour was great! It’s a beautiful site with so much history and because of our guide we were able to learn so much about the truth of the site while also appreciating the mythology
Start to finish, we had an excellent experience with WeGuide. We were driven to the Knossos entrance where WeGuide staff led us from the car to our tour guide, Georges, who had our tickets. Once inside, Georges shared interesting information at each of the important stops throughout the palace. We learned so much about the history of the Minoans and how advanced their civilization was. He was able to answer any questions we had. As we exited the gate, we were met by WeGuide staff who led us back to our driver. The next part of the tour was a lovely surprise for us. We didn’t realize it was included as our travel service, KimKim, had us leaving the city before it ended. The time we did have with guide, Ary, was totally delightful! She was knowledgeable, friendly and very engaging as she shared history of the city and showed us local spots. We appreciated having the opportunity to talk with her about life in Greece and to learn how very much we have in common.
If we did not have our amazing tour guide we would have missed so much. The stories, mythology and information about the Minoan people made the visit so much richer.
Great guide. Very informative and patient. Seemed to be familiar with the most recent research even.
Our tour guide was great - very enthusiastic and interesting. The use of the headsets allowed us to listen and learn while looking around. The tour guide did a good job relating myths and Minoan life to modern times.
Gianni’s was attentive and gracious throughout our planning, met us ant the port, and even reserved the taxis for us! His staff were kind and supportive especially with one elderly group member. And the tour guide, Akrivi (sp?!), was amazing! So much o formation and expertise on a subject she obviously loved. Her enthusiasm was infectious and everyone enjoyed learning from her immensely! So grateful we chose this tour.
This guided tour was the highlight of our time in Crete. The information that Henry shared with my husband & I was mind-blowing! THE most entertaining & informational tour we had the entire time in Greece, including the Acropolis in Athens. We would definitely do this tour again. We cannot wait to read & study everything there is to know about this place. Henry was a true inspiration to learn more KNOWLEDGE!
The tour was amazing! It was just two of us and the guide and we learned so much about the ruins. Our guide was so nice and knowledgeable! It started raining during the tour and they brought us Panchos so we wouldn’t get wet! We definitely recommend it.
This 1.5 hour tour was one of the most interesting we have ever done. Our guide Katerina who is an archeologist and excavator absolutely knows her history of Knossos and Greek history in general. She shared the information comprehensively and delivered it an entertaining manner. Her enthusiasm for Knossos was infectious. The tour exceeded our expectation and has left us with a greater appreciation of Knossos and the Minoan civilisation. Thank you Katerina.
Although the Information and guide was good this tour is very expensive for 1 hr 30 minutes. It could have at least included the price of the entry fee. We took an all day 8 hr tour and food included for almost same price!
Our tour guide was amazing. Friendly, knowledgeable, and very thoughtful. She had a great knowledge of the site, and made it very interesting.
For History lovers this is a must. Here are some tips if you go on this trip. 1. Take water and keep hydrated. When you enter the palace there are no toilets inside or anywhere to buy drinks. There are toilets before you enter the palace, keep some change, 50c, to use the facilities. There is a shop and restaurant to buy liquids or food before you enter. 2. Our tour did not include the entry fee into the Palace. If you are under 25 years or over 65 years take ID and you can get discounted entry rates. You can purchase a dual ticket for Knossos Palace and the Archaeological Museum of Heraklion, this will cost 20 euroes pp. If you are in the above age groups it will be cheaper to buy individual tickets. 3. This is not an easy walk. The tour is about 90 minutes long and bearing in mind the type of visit at times the ground is very uneen and I would suggets not disability friendly. 4. Make sure you are well covered, hat, suncream etc as this is almost totally outdoors and on a hot sunny day you could easily burn. 5. I would reccomend visiting Knossos Palace first if you are also considering a vist to the Archaeological Museum of Heraklion. It natuarlly follows on and I found this really enjoyable. We booked this through Viator and found the arrangements to meet really easy and well organised. The tour guide will provide each person with an audio system and headphone for the tour. Stay in reasonable distance of your tour guide or the commentary could drop out. Our trip also included a walking tour of Heraklion Town with the same guide. We loved Heraklion Town, the beautiful buildings, the shops, reatsuarants and cafes. We were given 3 hours free time but as we were staying so close we enjoyed the rest of the day taking in the wonderful ambience of this vibrant town. Well worth a visit.
We enjoyed the small group setting and as a result were able to be more flexible as the crowds ebbed and flowed throughout the site. Our guide, Arkivi, was very knowledgeable and provided expert commentary throughout the day. A very enjoyable tour!
This tour was well worth it. My husband and I learned so much from our guide, Katarina. She was truly a wealth of knowledge and a great storyteller.
Guide efficient and positive, with a good explanation for what happened, while also weaving the events of the past and tour into a comprehensive story explaining the Minotaur and history/mythology of the site.
Our tour guide Akrivi was fantastic. She gave just the right amount of information without overwhelming us all. We had 8 on our tour. At the start you get a device with an earphone to save her shouting like many other groups were doing. It is a quieter season now but by the time I left it was still getting busy. So go for the 9am tour if you can. Number 2 bus is great for getting there and back too. And cheap. I got my ticket before and it cost me €1.10. A must before or after is the Archaeological Museum as it will all make sense after doing both.
We enjoyed our tour with Akrivi! We were lucky to have no one else on the tour with us, so we ended up getting our own private tour! Akrivi was full of knowledge and shared with us everything about the Minoan labyrinth. She was accommodating in taking our photos and even sharing photos with us of when she went into a part of the ruins that are no longer accessible. We're happy we went with taking a tour with WeGuide as I'm not sure we would have enjoyed the ruins as much going by ourselves. Thank you, Akrivi!
The end part. She dropped some deep thought provoking analogies about how we relate to the main mythological objects discussed.
Georgios was a great tour guide. We were stressed about getting the ticket part sorted and figuring out where to meet the tour. But the tour company was very helpful with all of it. We ended up on a tour of our own and enjoyed it so much more than we would have without a guide. Great day!
Guide Josh was very courteous and clear in his English delivery. Interesting tour. Administered responsibly.
I had a private guided tour of the palace with Guide Stella. She was a world class guide! Extremely informative. I said to her during the tour “if I went without the tour I would never have knew the things you are telling me”. A guide is highly recommended, learn about all the wonderful ingenuity and history of the Palace and landmark itself. A truly educational experience!
We cannot recommend this tour enough. My brother and I were truly blown away by the Knossos Palace. Our guide was very skilled in weaving together history, amended history, and myth. She was funny, gracious about picture-taking, and good at maneuvering us through the labyrinth (pun-intended) that is Knossos. It was easy to pick up on her passion for the site.
This was a special experience to be able to tour with Joanna through WeGuide. Her approach and presentation was refreshingly insightful, leaving us with deep desire for more in-depth understanding of the Minoan history. We highly recommend!
We had Joanna for our guide I have done many tours around the world and I thought she was the best tour guide that we ever had I don’t even wanna name her a tour guide she sparked a lot of thoughts in my mind that will not leave me for a long time She had such an interesting holistic approach to archaeology history and humanity that will blow your mind She inspired me to go back to the origins of humanity and find a true beauty there that we have lost throughout this computerized world and need the most now Thank you Joanna and thank you “be a Greek” Tours that’s found her for us
Our guide Joanna, enriched our visit to Knossos Palace in so many ways. She is passionate about the history of this place and certainly has a talent for storytelling. Her descriptions were very immersive and vivid, helping to understand what a visitor would experience entering the palace many thousand years ago. She is good at putting myths and scientific facts apart and presenting a realistic story of this site. We can certainly recommend it.
Great tour. Unexpectedly interesting! Our guide was so passionate for the history and the place that we were excited to listen and discover the ruins with her, she took the time to give us both the historical background and the explanations about what we were visiting. The early schedule ( 9 am) makes the visit pleasant in summer, before the temperature is too high and when the site is less crowded. We highly recommend this tour.
My family travels all over the world and has encountered numerous tour guides. Ioanna was different, in only the most wonderful way! She has this amazing way of challenging you to not only see and enjoy the ruins and historical sites you are at; but also to truly dive into the history of the people behind the ruins. My 13 year old son loved debating and discussing the why behind certain Ancient Greek practices and beliefs with her. He says it brought the ruins alive for him. Ioanna is also such a truly engaging and lovely person. She made us feel like family in her country and that just made the tour even more enjoyable! I cannot recommend her and her tours enough, they are a must do!
We had Joanna as our guide and she was absolutely the best. Made the history of the site so interesting and explained things about the island of Crete and how much of the site can relate to art and anthropology studies today. She was very responsive to questions and left you feeling informed and inspired. If you go to Knossos you have to have her as your guide!!!
Where to start? I wish I had recorded this tour, but am also so glad to have fully experienced it minus the intermediary of technology. Our guide was Calypso, the most knowledgeable and engaging guide I have had outside of a classroom. As an Art History major, I expected to revisit some concepts and context to better understand Knossos. I did not expect to consider the meaning of life, love and metaphor. We started by unlearning what we thought we knew and went on a journey to experience the temple as it was intended, constantly addressing the light and the dark of the spaces, but also of humanity - what it is to be fully realized in your own time and what it is to be eternal. This was not a sermon but an invitation to transcend tourism to something more connected. And yes, the rooms and paintings are alluring but it's the audacity of the site and the intention behind it that feels like a masterpiece. I would seek Calypso out for further discussion of Knossos, Greek culture, and contemporary theory with pleasure. In fact, it was her ability to weave all of these things together that made it so valuable.
Akrivi provided an excellent tour that made our experience in Knossos truly memorable. Akrivi was very friendly, personable and knowledgeable. I have visited Knossos may times in the past, but this tour offered new and valuable insights on the Minoan civilization and (surprisingly!) its connection to todays issues. Totally recommend it.
This was a fantastic tour that really gave us a new perspective on the classic Greek myths. We learned a lot about their relationship to history, as well as the history of the excavation of the site. If you are planning to go to the Palace, definitely book this tour! The visit to the site really wouldn't have been anywhere near as enjoyable or edifying without this tour.
We had a great tour with Akrivi. She helped us understand 1) the Minoan civilization (which gave us helpful context for our visit to the Heraklion Archeaological Museum later that day), 2) the history/influence of Sir Arthur Evan's work in excavating/interpreting Knossos, and 3) the relevant Greek myths about the site.
We were fortunate to book this tour for 9:00 AM and there were only two of us. The guide introduced us to Greek mythology and history and then showed around. She pointed out important features we would have missed, as there is little signage. She led the tour at a relaxed pace and was open to our questions and observations. She explained that the original archeologist named features based on his cultural assumptions from the time he was working, and what present day archeologists have since discovered.
We had Joanna for our guide. She was a highly educated and knowledgeable about the evolution of the Minoan culture and the whole history of the sites excavation. Joanna brought the archaeological site to life with her understanding of the Minoans. This was one of the most comprehensive tours we have had. It spurred us on to do more study of the Minoans once we returned home. Thanks.
We had a guide named Joanna. She was the most knowledgeable guide we have ever had. She was not only able to explain what we were looking at, but explain the evolution of the thinking of the archaeologists from 1800s to now. Further, she explained what the current thinking in academia is for how Minoans lived. Thanks you Joanna.
Akrivi was wonderful with her knowledge and to tell the story. Tour was five star plus She gave us enough time to ask questions Helped with skipping the lines Gave us enough time for photo opportunities
It was an excellent guided tour, one of the very best I have had. The guide was knowledgeable about the Minoan period, the later classical Greek period, and also about Sir Arthur Evans and his times. She really made one think too. The children found the tour very good too.
What a tour! Our guide Jo was so full of knowledge and enthusiasm for the subject. It’s hard to find enthusiasm from teenagers sometime, esp when they could be around the pool, but they were talking about it for hours after. I would recommend Jo and the tour to everyone. She makes history come to life. Jo thanks for the extra history lesson on Talso/Talas :-)
I had a great time at Knossos, definitely better yhan using audio guide. The taxi service is on time. The tour is actually in quite a small group, which is great for me. Joanna, our guide, has very good knowledge on archeology. Not only the architectural information, she also gave information on the Knossos community as a whole, with a great sense of humour. I only visited Heraklion for 1 day, and I think I made the right choice to visit Knossos!
Fabulous place We hired a car rather than pay for a coach trip which did not include the cost of the entry .It is beautful although very hotin August may sure you bring water with you or buy before entering . Good service as we did not have to queue for tickets . Under 18s are free as our students
Our guide Calypso was really engaging, dynamic, and knowledgeable. She taught us so much about the Minoans, putting their amazingly advanced society into context with other ancient civilizations. She also explained the context of the restoration of the site, which is controversial due to the intrusiveness of the restoration. Overall we are so glad we visited Knossos - it was really interesting and a place not to be missed - but without Calypso we wouldn’t have understood what we were seeing.
Joanna was our guide and I can not say enough about how she added texture and depth to the experience. We went on several tours and this was by far the most informative and well executed. well done Joanna and good luck with your continued research!
Visited Knossos palace on a coach trip, very busy place. Some waiting, mostly a good site but let down with early nineteenth century rebuilds by early historians, understand times were different back then, some interesting sites . Was busy
I’ve had the most exciting guided tour ever thanks to Ioanna who managed not only to passionately make us imagine and dream about the great civilization that erected Knossos, but also make unexpected connections about past and present life. Enjoyed every minute of it, thanks,Ioanna!
