Itinerary
Our journey into Cretan culture begins with an introduction to its famed "liquid gold." At a traditional, four-generation olive oil production facility, you’ll discover the rich history of the olive, learn about harvesting methods from ancient times to the present day, and enjoy a tasting of premium-quality olive oil—an experience sure to elevate your senses.
Νext stop at the village of Krasi where stands the famous plane tree of Krasi which is more than 2000 years old tree. There you will enough time to have a coffee at one of the local kafeneio and take unforgettable photos .
Our journey takes us to the Lasithi Plateau, a captivating stop rich in both natural beauty and ancient mythology. Surrounded by the towering Dikti Mountains, this fertile land is steeped in history and believed to be the birthplace of Zeus. Once home to the world’s first wind farm, the plateau still holds remnants of its past, with a few windmills dotting the landscape. As we explore this tranquil haven, you’ll be immersed in both the stunning views and the legendary stories that make this land so special.
Visit the legendary Cave of Zeus (Dikteon Andron), one of Crete’s most important mythological sites. According to ancient Greek mythology, this is the cave where Rhea hid the infant Zeus to protect him from his father Cronos. Enjoy the scenic surroundings of the Lasithi Plateau and discover the fascinating history and legends connected to the king of the Greek gods. ( Zeus Cave is closed on Tuesdays)
A 14th-century Byzantine gem, known for its beautiful frescoes and the legendary miraculous icon of the Virgin Mary. As we pass by, you’ll be able to take in its stunning setting and hear about the monastery’s rich history and spiritual significance, offering a glimpse into a place of culture, faith, and serenity — even without a stop.
On this excursion, you will visit one of the most important sights in Greece: the Knossos Palace. The tour begins with a visit to the Knossos Palace, the ceremonial and political center of the Minoan civilization during the Bronze Age. There, you will explore the stunning palace complex, built for King Minos and considered the oldest city in Europe.
Here, we will stop for lunch, if you wish, at a traditional tavern overlooking the Lassithi Plateau, where you can enjoy authentic local flavors, cooked in a wood-fired oven.

We had a terrific trip to Knossus and the archaeological Museum. Our driver was careful and a fountain of fascinating information. He made the two hour trip also enjoyable. Our tour guide was a very thoughtful person who helped us make sense of all the marvelous things we were seeing.
I wanted to tell you how much we enjoyed our tour yesterday with Apostles… he was warm, friendly, very well informed, and we appreciated him taking us to meet some villagers as well as see the sights. He kept us laughing and involved and we truly appreciated his driving, his sense of humor, and his kindness.
Apostlious our guide was terrific very knowledgeable about Crete He showed us so much about the inter parts of Crete. Olive oil plantation was so informative. Plus the best Starbucks in Crete. Thanks for a great day.
It was part od a full day excursion. Very well organised and the cave is absolutely beutiful. My children, 6 and 9 yo, absolutely loved it too.
My husband and I had such a wonderful day in Crete with our guide, Marinos! His love for his homeland is contagious, and it made the whole experience that much more special. You can tell how proud he is to be Cretan, and he truly enjoys sharing his culture and traditions with others. One of our favorite parts of the day was getting to see how everyday people live on this beautiful island. We learned about their love of olive oil and delicious food, visited a village of shepherds, and got to see how cheese is made. I even had the chance to try my hand at pottery and make a cute little piece of my own. We also visited a beautiful monastery, and Marinos patiently answered all my questions along the way. I loved being able to learn so much, not just about the places we visited, but about the people and traditions that make Crete so special. I absolutely recommend this tour company. We came away with a much deeper appreciation for Crete, so many wonderful memories, and the feeling that we had experienced a little piece of real Cretan life. It was truly a day we won’t forget!
Dimitri our driver/guide was knowledgeable and very nice, very accommodating and flexible to meet our expectations All sites were very interesting, full of history It was an small group that made even nicer
Great experience with lots of different and interesting activities! Our guide Marinos was wonderful!
A big plus to this tour was our tour guide, Marinos! He told us at the beginning that we will be his family for the day and that became the truth! He was funny, warm, kind, and very knowledgeable! We learned so much about Crete and about Greece, we saw the Palace of Knossos, we learned how olive oil is made, we made pottery, we sampled some cheese, had authentic Cretan tea, and a delicious meal and saw the oldest tree! He and this tour are both phenomenal and I recommend it 100%.
We had a fabulous day tour in Crete. Our expert guide took fine care of our small group. Comfy van, a special morning at Knossos and ample time to see the Sea, Mountains and bountiful Lashithi Plateau. Climbing to the Dikti Cave, seeing an Olive Oil Press, lunch with a view as promised. Each stop had pleasant surprises! Olives, herbs, goats in trees! I loved the amazing Minoans. We could be happy to live under their ways. A few days after our tour there were storms and severe weather damage that flooded Lashithi Plateau. Our best to you and yours, Marinos.
Great experience! Our guide and driver (Marinos) was friendly, knowledgable, and made it a unique and special experience. I very much recommend this tour.
This was a very informative and interesting excursion that allowed us to see the Island of Crete by private driver with a small group. Our guide Apostolos was friendly and knowledgeable and made our trip very pleasant. We were happy to visit a small traditional coffee shop and stop at a traditional restaurant along with the other sites. Thanks for an excellent overview of Crete!
Fabio, our guide, was wonderful. The drive up and around hillside villages showcases aspects of Crete you won’t see otherwise. The sites and historical commentary are worthwhile, and the food was delicious.
Apostolic our Driver/Guide was fantastic. His communication and clarity while explaining all that we were seeing and visiting was effective. He is very good at and passionate about his role. Tour Operator was proactive and responsible to all my inquiries. Highly recommend you book this tour if you’re visiting the Heraklion area. 5-Stars.
The tour started promptly in a comfortable vehicle. Our Guide, Apostolos, was fun, very knowledgeable and a good driver. He really made the tour special. The variety of stops and locations gave us a good understanding of the landscape and culture of Crete. The lunch stop was so good! We sadly only had one day and this tour was perfect to maximize the quality of our time in Crete. We highly recommend it.
My wife and I were in a small group tour with Apostolos as the driver/part guide and it was a very good day out. Every place visited (Knossos, olive oil factory. Zeus cave and Lasithi plateau) had sufficient time to complete fully and we also visited the 2000yr old plane tree and had a coffee in a lovely local home café in a village I have forgotten the name of. The trip covers a good number of sights and Apostolos was very engaging with a lot of helpful information when driving to each location.
Our travel guide, Apostolos, is one of the best guides we have met in all the traveling we have done. He was informative, entertaining and knew his history. He answered all our questions and left us with a better understanding of Crete’s history. He kept us laughing the entire excursion. We wish him the best.
Fantastic day. Our guide for the day was Apostolis. He was wonderful, passed on a lot of interesting information, never rushed. In fact the day went a little longer than planned. We also booked the option of a guide for Knossos. This was definitely money well spent. We learned so much more than if we just wandered on our own. Zeus’s cave was amazing. Just be aware it’s a bit of an uphill climb to get there from parking and then lots of stairs down into the cave. We had a few other stops with great scenery along the way.
The whole day felt rushed. At Knossos we were given just 50 minutes to return to the vehicle. There was no suggestion of a guide which would have brought the visit to life. When mentioned as we boarded the vehicle our driver simply referred to the many information posts around the site. These were however often obscured by the crowds of people gathered around their respective guides. It was disappointing and our driver playing an audio of the history of Knossos as we drove away did little to make up for a poor experience. The olive oil tasting would have been more interesting if it had been supervised and each explained rather than trying them blindly. There was no mention of honey, although two jars were left for trying. At the cave we were given an hour. As we were told it was time to leave I mentioned I needed the toilet and to pay for drinks. Whilst the driver was aware I was shouted at to get a move on as he had chosen to move the vehicle and was agitated as he had decided to park in a position that blocked the road and other drivers were getting annoyed. We were told a few times that lunch was optional and the driver seemed to be wanting us to agree not to stop, although we chose to. As we were driving away from the tree the driver asked if we wanted to stop for a coffee. By then we simply wanted to get back and said no. It was only later we realised this was part of the trip and not a kind gesture or afterthought as it appeared. Overall it was disappointing, not a day to remember and poor value for money.
An Amazing Way to Experience Crete’s History and Culture! We had an absolutely fantastic time on this tour! Marinos was our guide throughout the entire day, taking us from Knossos Palace to the Lasithi Plateau, Zeus Cave, local villages, and an olive oil tour. It was such a great way to experience both the ancient history and the culture of Crete. Visiting Knossos Palace was one of the things I was looking forward to most on our entire trip to Crete, and getting to finally experience it was incredible. For our time at Knossos, we were paired with a local guide who specialized in the site, and she was amazing. She shared so much history and context that really brought Knossos to life and made the experience even more special. Marinos was wonderful. He was organized, communicative, incredibly friendly, and so knowledgeable. Everything throughout the day felt seamless, and he gave us so much interesting background and context for the places we were visiting. We had tons of questions, and he happily answered all of them! We especially loved the little things he added along the way. At one point, he even pulled over on a mountain road to show us wild herbs growing nearby. Those spontaneous moments made the experience feel so much more personal and gave us an even better glimpse into life and culture in Crete. Marinos was also just genuinely pleasant to spend the day with. He made us feel so welcome, especially knowing we were visiting on our honeymoon, and we really enjoyed talking with him throughout the tour. If you want to see a lot of Crete while learning about its ancient history, culture, food, and everyday life along the way, we would absolutely recommend this tour!
A wonderful day spent immersed in Cretan culture, history, incredible food and spectacular sights that exceeded our expectations! Our guide, Marinos, was excellent, professional and made our experience even greater. He went above and beyond to show us numerous important sights of Crete. Thank you, Marinos, for a beautiful day that we will never forget!
Great way to see the main attractions near Heraklion. Our driver Apostolos, was friendly knowledgeable and full of information all along the 8+ hour tour. He even treated us to a coffee in a historic quaint village. Lots of other great stops too. I’d recommend prearranging a guide for the tour of Knossos, if you want to get the full experience. Highly recommend this tour, it was one of the better ones on our trip.
Such a great time, excellent day out! You get amazing views and see some great sites, our driver Apostolos made it even better. He knew a lot about the history and the locations which made it very interesting, and he kept us entertained the whole day.
Amazing day out! Our driver Apostolos was very knowledgeable and funny, made the trip even better. Great views and a fantastic experience, would recommend to anyone visiting Crewe.
Apostolos (driver-guide) was incredible. Not only was he funny but I think he was easily the best guide I've had my entire Greece trip! Knossos Palace was really interesting. I would have never considered a civilization before what we know as the "Ancient Greeks". The palace specific guide was totally worth it. I probably wouldn't have known what I was looking at without her. Zeus Cave was breathtaking. A must see if you are on Crete. It's completely huge and filled with the most unique structures of rock. Plus, I didn't expect pools of water in inside. I've never seen anything like it. And so many places to get good pictures with or without you in it. And I wouldn't have seen any of it without this tour, as I don't drjve at all. If you are looking for a nearly full day excursion while on Crete, this is the one to do.
Guide (Mr. Apostolos) was good - knowledgeable & personable. Only negative point we gave us that a visit to Zeus Cave was advertised and communicated to us as included in the trip but on the day of the tour, we were informed by the guide that it will not included. We should have been informed earlier.
I had a blast with our tour guide Apostolos who gave us the authentic Crete experience from the olive oil factory to Knossos palace; as well as what local people’s daily life is like.
Absolutely INCREDIBLE. The best day I had in Greece the entire trip. Apostolos was amazing and have so many great facts and stories to entertain us on the rides between locations. He was who made the experience twenty times better than it already was. HIGHLY recommend this your.
The whole day was very nice. Marinos was an excellent guide and driver. The restaurant where he took us had great food.
The guide on this trip was very entertaining and knew a ton about the local area. Then he dropped us off with a very knowledgeable guide at Knossos who went very in depth, not only about the ruins themselves, but a lot of the lore that was affiliated with it, which was pretty cool. Then we went to an olive oil factory and the cave of Zeus. All of which were really cool experiences.
Apostolos our guide was fantastic. He took us to a nearby village for coffee and treats. Along the way he explained many of the sites including agriculture and economic environment. He was very informative and helpful. Would highly recommend. The tour of the olive oil factory was awesome. Learned so much and able to taste different varieties. Cave of Zeus is a must, the hike to the entrance is worth it. Palace of Knossos takes you back in time.
From start to finish this excursion was excellent. Apostolos our guide and driver was courteous and professional with a great knowledge of the history, culture and society of Crete. Our guide at Knossos (unfortunately I cannot remember her name) was excellent, indeed the whole day, including the visit to the olive oil factory, the plateau and Crete’s version of Starbucks was so enjoyable. A great day out!
The tour was very educational and our guide, Apostolos, was friendly and entertaining. We leaned so much!
Marinos was a fantastic guide for this all-day trip to Knossos Palace, Omalia Olive Oil, Zeus’s Cave, and a fabulous Cretan lunch overlooking the plateau. My wife and I enjoyed every minute, including Marinos’s sense of humor. Katerina was our guide through the Palace, and she was outstanding—not only a guide, but an archeologist herself. Highly recommend this tour and guides. Five stars!
Excellent one day trip to get a feel for the area. Marinos was an amazing tour guide. He was knowledgeable and funny. We were a small group in a comfortable van. He provided water and some local snacks. He also put on Cretan music. This trip is best for someone that doesn’t have weeks to sightseeing in an island that has too much to do. Lunch was amazing with great views and probably the cheapest we have paid since coming to Greece.
Our driver, Apostolos was excellent, informative, responsive, very entertaining. Could not have asked for a better guide. In the Knossos Palace we had a local tour guide, Eirini; who was fantastic, very knowledgeable and informative. She was a real pleasure to have at such a historical site.
Wonderful experience with our driver and tour guide Apostolos. He was very knowledgeable of all things Cretan and answered questions we had. Tour itself was a full day of history, culture, activity, and amazing food and views. Highly recommend. Where sneakers for the hike 😉
We had the pleasure of touring with Apostolos, and it was hands-down one of the best guided experiences we've had — from start to finish. Even before the tour, the company was fantastic to deal with. They communicated clearly to confirm all the details and made sure we could be picked up right from our hotel, which made everything effortless on our end. When he arrived, he made a point of checking that we were comfortable before we even got started a small touch that set the tone for the whole day. His knowledge was genuinely impressive he didn't just recite facts, he wove them into stories that brought each site to life. Every question we asked, no matter how detailed, he answered with real depth and clear enthusiasm for the subject. Our start ended up running late, but Apostolos handled it with total professionalism. Instead of rushing us through the rest of the tour to make up time, he adjusted on the fly and made sure we still got the full, unhurried experience at every stop nothing felt cut short or skipped over. That kind of care for the visitor's experience, even when the schedule works against you, says a lot about someone's dedication to their craft. If you're looking for a company and guide who combines deep expertise, genuine attentiveness, and great communication from the very first message, ask for Apostolos. Highly recommended!!
For our first trip to Crete, we wanted an authentic experience and to learn about the culture. We didn’t want to be with a large group of people and we didn’t really want to do touristy activities but this is something that was a must do!! We received amazing communication with the company and our tour guide was so amazing!! Apostolos was attentive to us, answered questions, explained everything, and gave us a better understanding of the history here in Crete. Even though the tour at Knossos took longer than expected we were not rushed at any point during these activities!! Thank you!
Wonderful experience. Nikolas was great, giving a lot of information ablut the area as well as the places of interest. Zeus cave is super cool👍 tour is well planned & well timed. We had a great day! Would highly recommend this tour!
Great trip w/ knowledgeable, entertaining, and kind guide -- Apostolos. Just enough driving to get out to various places, but not so much that it over takes the time to see and do things. The Cretan Starbucks was amazing...
Great experience of Crete highlights. Knossos temple was very impressive and the additional guide for the palace was a worth it. I enjoyed the small historic towns snd the cave of Zeus. The tour ended with a great lunch in a nice traditional restaurant. Our guide Emmanuel customized the trip for us and gave us a lot of background information. We had a great time.
We had the best day with our driver Apostolos who was very knowledgeable about Crete sharing stories and showing us sites. We visited the Knossos plateau which was lovely to see, then we went to the olive oils factory where we tasted various olive oils and then we traveled to Zues caves which were out of this world along with having lunch traveling to various villages and having a lovely coffee stop in a local ladies living room style coffe stop. All activities were well organised and were fabulous. Would 100% recommend. Thank you
We had a great excursion in and around Heraklion. Our guide, Apostolos, was very knowledgeable, funny, and a safe driver.
Great guide, very informative, admission fees pay on entrance lovely meal for lunch, make sure you wear suitable footwear and i took umbrella for shade, value for money,
Apostolos (our guide) was fantastic! Very funny and knowledgeable about Crete and the local ways. Admission fees to attractions was not included, but it would have been nice to have the guide accompany us to the attractions and provide info about them. Otherwise tour was lots of fun, good size of group, and again, our guide was great!
Apostolos was an incredible guide. The whole experience was lovely, and he shared much about the culture of Crete. He was courteous and generous with his time and insights.
Apostolos was a wonderful guide to the history, mythology and culture of Crete. If you are interested in this incredible islands past, seeing its beauty and learning about its people then this tour is a must. This wasn’t our first trip to Crete, but this was our best experience here yet. Highly recommended.
Fabulous tour with Apostolos (guide) comfortable cool van - very safe driver! He made the day very enjoyable with his excellent knowledge of history and myths (and a great sense of humour!) Lunch stop with great view and delicious Cretan favourites. Highly recommend this tour.
My family had a great full day tour. We saw many local villages, learned about olive oil production. explored Zeus cave, had a delicious lunch, and saw Knossos palace. There were plenty of opportunities to get snacks/drinks and use the bathroom along the way. Our guide was very enthusiastic and knowledgeable. Highly recommend!
