Our experience could not have been lovelier. Our expert guide took us through the history and tastes of olive oil, wine and food of Crete in a beautiful olive grove and winery. She even took us to an ancient Minoan tomb repurposed as a wine press. The whole trip was a peak experience. I HIGHLY recommend!
We had a great time on our olive oil and wine tour with Areti! The food at both locations was excellent, and Areti helped to ensure I was able to have gluten-free options for lunch on short notice, which I was very appreciative of! She was very knowledgeable about the wine making process and shared lots of great information on the food/wines of Crete with us! The tour was very relaxing and we did not feel rushed at all! This was a great experience! Our guide Areti was passionate about Crete and a great hostess. Great time tasting olive oil with honey, figs, cheese, and vegetables. Lunch and wines were outstanding! We had a wonderful day going to the winery/vineyard sampling some fabulous wines and local cuisine. Then a lovely walk through a small town I stopping for some coffee and dessert. Definitely the best experience I had in Crete. If you have the chance to take this wine and olive oil tour, do it and you won’t regret it. Let me explain in more detail: Areti will pick you up at your hotel or Airbnb in a comfortable SUV. Along the way to the vineyard, she will ask about your wine preferences and provide an explanation about production on the island, all while playing good background music. First, you will tour to taste the olive oils. Here, you will learn about the amazing production of olive oil in Crete and its importance to the region. At the vineyard, you will enjoy a multi-course meal paired with glasses of wine. Areti is an expert at these pairings, based on your tastes and the ingredients. In my case, I prefer white wines, so those were the majority. However, Areti selected two red wines for the last two courses—a meat dish and dessert. The pairing was excellent! Finally, you will visit a beautiful little village that’s hard to reach without a guide, with nostalgic streets and friendly cats. Then, Areti will then take you back to your hotel. If you’re reading this, book now. I promise you will have an unforgettable experience. It was the highlight of my trip to Crete! I really thank Areti for this experience!
