We had a truly unique and memorable tour with George! This private tour allowed our folks with mobility issues to tour the spectacular Knossos Palace at a relaxed pace. He was very keen to the weather and our ship schedule in helping us to maximize our time. Thanks to George for providing access to truly authentic Crete experiences!! We chose to do the winery and olive oil mill tours which were both phenomenal! The Stilianou Winery property was beautiful with olive and grape vines creating an idyllic setting. The wine tasting offered exposure to several greek grape varieties and be sure to try the yummy cheese plate pairing! The Politakis Olive Oil Mill tour and tasting gave us so much appreciation for quality EVOO varieties and the interesting production process. In between stops, George provided an insightful overview of Crete and Minoan history both real and mythological! We appreciated our informative and tasty day in Crete!

Valuable and outstanding experience. George took us to olive oil mill, monastery, pottery masters, and village! He even bought cake for a birthday person and we celebrated at an outdoor cafe. Lovely day!
Dimitri was great! He picked us up promptly and took us to all the places we requested. We especially enjoyed the olive oil tasting and wine tasting. He told us about life, culture and history in Crete. Sadly we ran out of time and didn’t get to have lunch at a local cafe but the tour was great fun and I recommend it highly.
We had an absolutely fantastic time exploring Crete with George! From start to finish, the tour arrangement was excellent. George was incredibly thoughtful and proactive, adjusting our itinerary perfectly based on the predicted weather forecast so we could enjoy the sights comfortably (and safely dodge the light rain at the end of the day!). He timed our stops brilliantly, making it feel like an off-peak visit. We were able to explore the Palace of Knossos and the beautiful streets of Heraklion at our own pace without feeling rushed or overwhelmed by crowds. George gave us a profound and fascinating taste of the history of Greece and Crete—spanning from 3500 BC and the Minoans all the way through the Byzantine and Venetian periods. The itinerary was packed with local gems. After walking through the Venetian Harbour and seeing Palace of Knossos , we visited the Politakis Olive Mill for a wonderful tasting of Cretan "liquid gold." A major highlight was visiting the Ploumis Pottery Workshop in Thrapsano, where Me even got to try making pottery hands-on, and we learned about the clever Cup of Pythagoras! We ended the sightseeing at the peaceful Agarathos Monastery before a scenic drive back. Throughout the entire day, George was a highly responsive, safe, and accommodating driver. If you want a tour that perfectly balances deep historical knowledge, local culture, and personalized care, we cannot recommend George enough. Thank you for a wonderful day!
Our tour was a wonderful experience. George was helpful and friendly and made sure we did exactly what we wanted to. We felt we had a “real” experience with real Cretans. It was lovely.
This was an excellent tour! George was a superb and engaging tour host and our driver (very safe we noted). Very knowledgeable as he is a native of Crete. We designed our tour stops as we went, just as stated in the tour I selected. We wanted flexibility and got exactly that - and it was amazing. Palace of Knossos tour started our day then followed with a wonderful olive oil mill visit and tasting, then a wine tasting at a small family winery. Beautiful country. We finished in Heraklion with a little shopping. A full day of about 6 hours, we (4 of us) completely enjoyed the day. I don't think we could have had a better tour host and driver, we felt lucky to get George. He runs a personal business and you can tell from the start. He was also excellent in communicating with us prior to and after the shore excursion. Highly recommend this tour, well worth the price for the private tour with 4 people. Thank you George!
If I could rate six stars, I absolutely would. George truly made this the most special experience I have had not only while on the island, but while traveling alone in general. George was beyond knowledgeable of Heraklion - to the point where I thought there was nothing that he didn’t know. He walked me through the very complex history of the island like it was a walk in the park - WHILE we were walking in a park along the Venetian wall. He made sure that I was comfortable the entire trip and checked in several times to adjust the plan to best accommodate my preferences. Also, George is one of the most kindest most thoughtful people I have ever met, and he was great company to spend the day with. I cannot recommend this trip enough!
This was a fantastic experience. Lots of fun and interesting stuff to see. It was the best of everything of Crete. We had some delicious Cretan food and wine, saw a beautiful monastery and also the archaeological site of Knossos. George has done an amazing job with this tour and I highly recommend it
George was a fantastic guide; his flexibility and willingness to adapt to our schedule made the day even more special. We especially appreciated his insights into Crete's history, culture, and people; it was a true treat to find the activities "off the beaten path," as it were, and experience wine, olive oil production, and coffee with someone as knowledgeable and personable as George!
We had a wonderful half-day trip in Heraklion and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. We started with a relaxing stop at a beautiful small beach, followed by visits to a traditional pottery workshop and an olive mill, where we learned about local Cretan craftsmanship and olive oil production. The highlight was definitely the magnificent Palace of Knossos, with its incredible history and fascinating ruins. A perfect combination of nature, culture, history, and authentic Crete—all packed into a well-organized half-day tour. Highly recommended!
Friendly staff but this is really just a taxi ride. I booked in advance Knossos and old city, but when we got picked up he asked what we wanted to do, as if the booking info didn’t have it set straight. If you do the palace, know having a tour guide is extra. Around 80-100 euros. Just because it says “English speaking guide” doesn’t mean you’re getting a city tour guide. I think we could have gotten a taxi cheaper and seen the sites on our own.
Excellent half day spent enjoying Minoan ruins, olive oil, ceramics, a charming village, a monastery and KITTENS! George was a friendly and knowledgeable guide who provided interesting details about olive oil production and so much more! This tour offers flexibility and a perfect balance of history, culture and relaxation. We also were thrilled to encounter the adorable kittens at the olive oil tasting. Thank you, George, for a great day!

Great private tour of the best experiences in the city! George was very helpful, accommodating and knowledgeable. He told us all the history of Crete, and brought us to the best places. Thank you George for this experience!
We took a private day trip with George and was blown away by the wonderful sights of Crete and George’s extensive knowledge. From early communication, George was right on time and then accommodated our afternoon perfectly. A chance to make pottery the traditional way before learning all about the Olive industry and production of olive oil. Before relaxing in the Cretan hills and enjoy a local wine (or 6!) Last stop was a walking tour around the streets and walls of Heraklion before he kindly dropped us back to our hotel 10/10 for value, service & a great experience. If your heading to Crete and want a full tour - get this one booked you won’t be disappointed
Flexible and personalized service; very personable, experienced, and knowledgeable agent; great value
Very knowledgeable and flexible agent, personalized service, excellent all around.
We very much enjoyed the tour by George. He was flexible and informative. Each spot was very interesting and highlighted something of Crete’s history and/or culture. He was easy to engage and we enjoyed his narrative.
We had a great tour and enjoyed
Dimitris was an excellent guide and George did a great job communicatingwith us prior to arrival! My wife and children (7 & 11) very much enjoyed the trip start to finish. We started with the palace Knossos, which was an incredible experience. Dimitris advised us it would take about an hour to an hour and half. We took a bit longer because we stopped and learned about each area of the site, so probably longer than most. Dimitris was most understanding and gave us options on the rest of the tour. My wife said she really wanted to see the olive mill and he made sure that we knew it would be a bit longer than the original 4 hours since he also wanted the kids to experience the pottery making as well. It was no problem for him, he was just concerned about what time we needed to be back. Super kind. We then went to the olive mill, where we did a tasting and learned about the process. The next stop was the pottery shop where the owner made an amazing pot in front of us then let the kids try. They loved it. Our tour went longer than the original time, but again, our fault. Dimitris was most accommodating and answered all of our questions aboutt Crete and the area. It was a fantastic experience and would highly recommend it! Fantastic!!
Our tour guides George and Dimitiri were very nice, we really enjoyed all the activities we did. I highly recommend the olive oil tasting and pottery workshop. Our group were 4 teens and 4 adults, there was something for everyone! We had plenty of time to explore Knososs Palace, the museum and were even treated to Greek coffee by George and Dimitri, which was a surprising treat! The monastery is a must see too. Thank you for making our experience in Crete a memorable one!
We had an absolutely wonderful afternoon with Dimitris. We were met at the airport with cold waters, and taken to the Palace of Knossos, where Dimitris facilitated a very quick entry with lots of tips for the experience. We were then taken to Archanes for a lovely lunch surrounded by the charming village. Dimitris then took us to an olive mill and we were given a full tour- both of the olive grove and harvest process and the facility that makes the olive oil. We had a lovely tasting and were able to shop. George and Dimitris helped us have such a wonderful first day in Crete- and have made themselves available for other questions as well. Highly recommend!!
We were picked up from the airport and taken on a lovely tour- we stopped at the Palace of Knossos, had lunch at a tavern in Archanes and visited an olive mill. Dimitris was so friendly and helpful- we had such a lovely day.
A beautiful day in Heraklion & beyond. George helped us explore Knossos, Olive Mill and Lyrarakis Winery-it was Perfect
If you are looking for a seamless, high-end, and deeply authentic way to experience Crete, look no further than SunSud Tours. This was, without a doubt, the perfect day trip for cruisers; the logistics were handled with total precision, allowing us to maximize every minute of our time on shore without any of the typical port-day stress. From the moment we were met at the cruise port by our guide, Dimitris, we knew we were in excellent hands. He picked us up in a spacious, spotless Mercedes van and immediately impressed us with his friendly demeanor and wealth of local knowledge. What truly set this tour apart was Dimitris’s expert ability to pivot and manage the clock. When we arrived at Knossos and saw the staggering morning lines, he suggested a brilliant change of pace to avoid the crowds. Instead of waiting, we headed to the Pottery Workshop of Nikos Ploumakis. Watching the master potter, Nikos, expertly throw a decanter on the wheel was a mesmerizing and intimate cultural highlight. Our journey continued to the Agarathos Monastery, a breathtakingly peaceful sanctuary filled with vibrant flowering plants and trees—a perfect moment of serenity. We then visited Kleanthi Olive Farm for a fascinating tour of the groves and the press. The visit concluded with a delicious lunch featuring various olive oils, fresh bread, fruit, local cheese, and some truly insanely good preserved figs. By the time we returned to Knossos in the afternoon, the crowds had vanished. We were able to experience the ancient site in peace, exactly as it should be seen, before an easy return to the ship. Dimitris was incredibly easy-going and never pressed us for time; his genuine priority was ensuring we experienced the natural beauty and spirit of Crete. This was a masterclass in private touring.

George was a great guide. He let us plan out our day to what we wanted to see after he gave us several options. He was very knowledgeable about the locations we chose and made sure we got the best possible views during our excursion. Super friendly and very accommodating! I recommend this 6 hour day with him, you won’t regret it. Ron USA, Kentucky
The best way to experience Heraklion/Knossos. We had a private tour at Knossos. Then, we went to a FANTASTIC olive oil mill and tasted some out-of-this-world olive oil. Lastly, we went to a quaint vineyard with a fantastic view and had some delicious wine. What a great day. And, our driver, Dimitris, was the PERFECT host/driver.
A most well thought out program for an easy tour which encompasses depth of history plus width of cultural Experience like local product tasting! Educational.. leave you with much for reflective wandering and wondering ..

George provide us with excellent customised itinerary and customer care. We op in for Agarathos Monastery, Pottery workshop, gorgeous wine at selected Winery 🥰🥰🥰
Demetris was very accommodating, knowledgeable and flexible. He tailored the day to meet our time schedule and made excellent suggestions for our day. Knossos was beautiful and would have been very interesting except that the local guide we hired did not meet our needs. Travelers should know to be careful of the local they hire and might be happier using the guided iPad tour. The winery and the olive mill he suggested were fabulous. He then took us to the most beautiful traditional little Greek village that was beyond amazing. Viator never disappoints.
George offers a warm and friendly bespoke experience. He is highly knowledgeable and an affable companion. We really enjoyed our day out with him and could not recommend him enough.
Excellent tour, highly recommended we thoroughly enjoyed the K ossos Palace, the olive mill; the Pottery studio, and the monas. George is an outstanding guide, full of history; local traditions, etc; we can't rave enough about him. Be sure and hire a licensed guide in the Palace
I knew right away that our tour guide George was a consummate professional when he reached out to me soon after I had booked the tour to let me know that he had looked up my cruise info and that I had mistakenly booked my tour for the wrong day! George graciously fixed my mistake for me and then proceeded to ask what sort of things we were interested in so he could recommend a custom tailored itinerary. Our tour turned out to be one of the highlights of our trip. George's wealth of knowledge about the island extended to history, culture, politics - you name it. George was also very sensitive to the mobility issues of one member of our party for which we were very grateful. I highly recommend George as a fantastic guide for your next your of Crete.
Had a wonderful day with our guide George. He met us at the cruise port and was very accommodating to our mobility limitations. Visited a monastery, scenic Herculon, a pottery demonstration, historic Knossos and a wonderful visit with George’s family. We would highly recommend our guide for visiting Crete.
Our tour guide, Georgios Dermitzakis, was simply outstanding. Georgios welcomed us warmly and drove us expertly on our half day (6 hour) tour of the Knossos Palace ruins & Top Sights. He has extensive local knowledge and took us to visit a friends Politakis olive oil mill & processing facility - which was really fascinating. We then visited The very charming Lyrarakis Winery and had a personalized tour & tasting accompanied with fresh organically grown cheeses and olives. Excellent!!! We finished the tour with a nice stroll around the old port market area and its historic alleys. We were gifted a small bottle of liquid gold EVOO and parted with our new friend George and memories of a lifetime...
Would give more than 5 Stars if possible. Personalized and friendly. The best tour and guide we have ever done. You will not be disappointed if you choose this tour. Can see what you want and eat a fabulous authentic lunch if you choose. If you go to Crete and want a tour this is the tour to book.
Excellent way to experience the sights & culture of the lovely Greek Island of Crete! The tour was conducted by our excellent guide George who ensured we had a great experience throughout our day ... We were picked up on time at the Ship in a comfortable air conditioned vehicle and taken to the Knossos Palace for a fascinating experience exploring the ancient ruins and careful reconstructions.... Despite the relatively long lines, George was able to expedite our entry as a 'small tour group'. After that we headed to Skalani for an excellent tour of a working Olive planation with a great tasting experience at the end, which easily served as lunch for the day! Following on we visited a local winery with outstanding views of the countryside and a very enjoyable and reasonably priced tasting experience, where we sampled 6 local wines not commonly available due to relatively small production of the vineyard. From there we headed back to Heraklion where George gave us a very informative walking tour of some of the best harbour & city centre sites, followed by a complementary local delicacy at a traditional Crete bakery. Crete is a beautiful Island steeped in history and Greek Culture and this tour is a great way to sample some of the highlights. George was a perfect guide providing interesting and often amusing commentary as we travelled together ... Highly recommend!
The driver Dimitris was very nice very nice to have driver we could take in the scenery went to a Monistary first the chapel and the courtyard were both very beautiful and peaceful then on to a pottery shop where the owner demonstrated how to make 2 pots which are shipped all over the world impressive Then on to Knossos where we had an archeological guide Irene tell us all about the palace amazing site then we went on to the museum where all the artifacts from the palace are displayed beautiful pots jewelry statues furniture there a miniature replica of the palace that was amazing Wonderful experience
Dimitri was a superb tour guide. He has broad knowledge of the fascinating history of Crete. He was always close by when we finished one of out tours and the visit to the small family run olive oil business was informative and accompanied by a delightful collection of breads and other vegetables to try their olive oil. The Archaeological Museum is an extraordinary collection of artifacts going back to 6000BC and very clearly displayed.
George was extremely knowledgeable and patient with all our questions about the monastery or wine tasting or olive oil and pottery classes- George has wonderful personality and the day went by too quickly - we all felt it was a wonderful experience and highly recommend it to others
George was an excellent guide I enjoyed the tour very much as did the other 3 ladies I traveled with. He was knowledgeable throughout the tour not just about the places he took us to but about how to communicate that knowledge to us. As seniors we did not feel rushed. The time we spend at the olive mill, the monastery were just right for our group. One of our friends even got to try her hand at the pottery wheel and discovered hidden talent! Knossos was full of history. The ride between locations was full of information. I recommend George wholeheartedly!
A very enjoyable tour George was an excellent guide . He was very knowledgeable on all aspects of the tour we would highly recommend him to any party seeking a similar experience. George made our visit to Crete extra special.
George is amazing!! Sometimes karma and fate brings you the best tour guide ---but sometimes it brings you a lifelong friend and a very special person who you want to know when you come back to Crete. This is George! Thank you, George, for the the most marvelous introduction to Crete we could ask for. Mike I loved your perspective (this is part of the Greek experience-- talking to the Greeks, ellllllla!). Let him customize your tour like he did ours: We began your day with a scenic drive through the Heraklion region to the legendary Palace of Knossos, where we stepped into the fascinating world of the ancient Minoan civilization. From there, we continued to the Politakis Olive Mill, where we uncovered the secrets of Crete’s treasured “liquid gold.” Tasting three distinctive olive oils — Early Harvest, Bio/Organic Extra Virgin, and Classic Extra Virgin — each offering a flavorful glimpse into the island’s deep-rooted culinary traditions. We then visited the soulful, family-run Stylianou Winery, where you enjoyed six indigenous wines, each with its own character and story. I am in LOVE with Crete! I hope to come every year!
We had the absolute best tour with George. It was organized, informational and fun. We couldn’t believe how many places we visited- pottery factory, monastery, winery, olive oil factory and then Knossos. We had the most amazing tour of Knossos with Ritsa ( George arranged that also!). He made sure we had a great time and there is no way we could have had this experience without him! I can’t wait to recommend him to other Crete travelers.
We had an Awesome time! George our tour guide was amazing! He was very informative on the site, culture, & history of the island. We highly recommend this tour! Be sure to ask for George.
We had an incredible tour with George. He met us at our cruise ship port and spoke excellent English. He was both funny and interesting, making our tour an enjoyable experience. Our private tour began with a drive to the Palace of Knossos ruins. Upon arrival, George offered an optional private tour of the palace, which we eagerly accepted. He introduced us to the official tour guides at the facility, and we had a wonderful private tour of the palace. FYI, George was not our official guide. Only licensed guides at the facility are permitted to lead tours, which is a common practice at many popular tourist sites worldwide. As a tip, I highly recommend hiring a tour guide at the Palace of Knossos. After the palace, we visited the Politakis Olive Oil Mill, where George gave us a fascinating tour of the mill, the grounds, and the entire olive oil production process. We then enjoyed a delicious olive oil tasting. Next, we had a traditional Greek coffee break in the charming Archanes village. After our coffee break, we embarked on a delightful walking tour of the old City of Heraklion, which included a visit to the Cathedral of Saint Titus. This beautiful cathedral has an intriguing history, having been a Catholic Church, a mosque, and now a Greek Orthodox Church. George also helped my wife find some cute shops for shopping. We arrived back at our cruise ship in ample time for our departure. If you’re visiting Crete by cruise ship, I highly recommend this tour and this tour company. We had a fantastic time and thoroughly enjoyed our tour guide, George.
Our tour with George was a great experience, George is a fluent English speaker who has a great knowledge of his country. The tour was flexible and was for about six hours. We were able to visit authentic oil and pottery manufacturers as well as seeing the spectacular countryside and a Monestry. It is a tour that takes you out of the city to experience some of the culture of the country.
