Our private cooking class with Maria was one of the highlights of our time in Crete! From the moment we arrived, Maria made us feel so welcome. We began our experience sitting in her beautiful olive grove, enjoying traditional Greek coffee and conversation. Maria shared recipes she prepares for her own family, and we had the pleasure of cooking alongside her as we prepared our meal together. We loved learning not only about traditional Cretan food but also about the culture and traditions behind the recipes. What made this experience so special was Maria herself. She was warm, gracious, and an absolute delight to spend time with. By the end of the evening, we felt less like guests at a cooking class and more like friends who had been invited into her home for dinner. This was such an authentic and memorable experience, and we would highly recommend it to anyone visiting Crete!

5/5 is not enough. If you are looking for an authentic experience, do not miss this. Maria was amazing!!!! She even coordinated our transportation to and from our resort an hour away. Such a sweet -quaint farmhouse where we got to experience a full Cretan meal!!! Wonderful host that made us feel like family!!!! We left with full belly’s and a happy heart.
We were two couples and had a wonderful time with Maria. She has a lovely little farm. Prior to showing up, Maria gives you a choice of dishes to make. The most difficult part was deciding what to make as everything sounded wonderful. We would definitely recommend and would go back if we are in the area again. Be careful with your GPS as it may take you a crazy route. Make the turn across from Paradisio Restaurant.
Maria, a wonderfully warm and generous host, offers so much more than a typical cooking lesson. It’s a genuine glimpse into her family’s village heritage and way of life. You’ll cook in her kitchen, once a modest home belonging to her ancestors, nestled within their olive and citrus grove. Occasionally, chickens will wander around in the grove and the village cat will call in. Before our visit, we selected our dishes: prawn saganaki, cockerel stew and cheese pie. We also made pitta bread and learned to make a delicious sweet treat using walnuts from the garden and local honey, a staple breakfast treat. I discovered new flavours and easy preparation tips. It’s deceptively simple cooking with fresh local ingredients that creates rich and delicious dishes. I was amazed at how a few ingredients could produce such flavour, particularly in the time it took. We had our menu and recipes detailed and put in an envelope to take home. We enjoyed our meal outdoors in the olive grove, sampling wine and a raki infused with geraniums. This experience offers a real insight into Cretan life and cooking. From the handmade apron adorned with fine needlework to the tablecloth, lovingly crafted over a hundred years ago and now resting beside the bedstead in their little home, every detail tells a story. I highly recommend this truly unique experience with Maria.
we had such a great experience with Maria in Kritsa. this honestly ended up being one of the highlights of our time in Crete. from the moment we arrived, she made us feel completely at home. the setting itself is beautiful and peaceful, and the entire experience felt very authentic, not touristy at all. Maria walked us through traditional Cretan recipes step by step, sharing not just how to cook them, but the history and meaning behind each dish. you can tell this is something she truly cares about. everything we made was incredible, and sitting down to enjoy the meal together at the end felt really special. it wasn’t just a cooking class… it felt like being welcomed into someone’s home and culture. if you’re looking for something real, personal, and memorable while in Crete, this is absolutely worth doing.
Lovely cooking class with Maria, we really felt like friends being hosted! We learned how to make great Greek dishes of our choosing from her menu.
An amazing afternoon, with Maria as an exceptional host at her magnificent location :) She went above and beyond to accommodate every request (as it was a surprise for my girlfriend), turning it into a great cooking class with lots of great food and conversations to take home with us in the end :)
I experieced Maria's cooking class twice: once by myself and the other with a friend. I could easily have gone again and again. This is the real deal. Authentic, hands on, set in a family olive grove surrounded by pomegranate, orange and lime trees. Maria is simply divine: a weatlh of information along with a kind and sincere spirit. I was able to choose the menu both times and unlike other cooking classes where you either observe a lot of cooking or are in a big group and just do a little chopping here and there, Maria's experience was full hands on. I really felt like i cooked the food and could take what I learned back home with me to wow my family and friends. This experience was also specific to Cretan food and that nuance-I loved learning the differences between general Greek food compared to Cretan food and culture. I take cooking classes all over the world because it immediately familiarizes yourself with the culture. This class was the absolute best I've taken. Do not miss this one. If you are seeking a personalized, authentic experience in a village contact Maria!
We had an absolutely perfect day today with Maria! Her cooking class is definitely great to learn all about traditional Greek dishes and everything surrounding it, but it is also so much more! We started out at her lovely family house between olive, Mandarine and pomegranate trees. We were welcomed with a traditional candy and started out by a tour around her farm where we were able to taste and experience olives and mandarines. Maria is super knowledgeable and gave us great background information on everything we were interested in, including further advice on food, culture, hikes, beaches and activities. What makes this cooking class so special is that Maria really cares about the individual interests of the people who visit her. We chose 5 dishes in advance that we prepared together. Afterwards we had them for lunch in her wonderful garden accompanied by a fantastic wine. Maria is super caring and even gave us doggy bags to take home the addition food we weren’t able to finish. This experience was a perfect cocking class and so much more on top! We absolutely recommend spending an afternoon cooking with Maria. Thank you so much for this great day!
We had a really lovely afternoon with Maria and thoroughly enjoyed our time there. After a warm welcome and a typical coffee, we strolled through the garden and Maria told us about the olive trees and the harvest, as well as all the other trees and plants. Afterwards, we cooked together, tasted the food and talked about cooking.
What a wonderful experience! Maria is not only a fantastic cooking teacher, she creates a nice personal atmosphere, where we felt very welcome. We learned a lot about Cretan cuisine and Cretan social live, the culture and significance of olive groves and many amazing facts about olive and pomegranate trees. After preparing the tasty dinner , we sat in Marias beautiful garden, enjoying the food with a glass of wine, listening to Maria‘s singing through the open kitchen window. If you are looking for a special experience, which remains as a unique memory- this is it! Thank you, Maria, for your hospitality!
We spent an amazing afternoon at Maria‘s. She is such a lovely and open person and of course a great cook. We had so much fun! An experience we wouldn’t like to miss <3
Truly amazing experience with Maria. She really took the time to get to know us and we felt like we were friends by the end. Maria is very knowledgeable about Greek history / culture which was interesting to learn about. The food was incredible! It was so fun to select our meal choices and cook them together. We highly recommend this cooking class! Make sure to go early in your trip as she gives great personalized recommendations. Also, the olive grove you cook in is gorgeous.
Maria’s cooking class was an absolute highlight of our trip to Greece! From the moment we arrived, her warm and fun personality made us feel like old college friends catching up — not guests. She welcomed us into her quaint family farmhouse and even took us on a tour of her olive tree orchard/vineyard, which added such a personal and authentic touch to the experience. Her cooking style is the perfect mix of tradition and joy. Every dish we prepared felt rooted in history but full of laughter and love. Maria is truly a master of her craft — not only in the kitchen but in the way she brings people together through food. When you’re looking for a class that goes beyond recipes and offers real connection, passion, and unforgettable flavors, Maria is it. We left with full hearts, full stomachs, and memories we’ll cherish forever. Sincere Thanks, Luke and Hiede
My sister and I took a private Greek cooking class with Maria, and it was absolutely amazing. From the start, she felt more like a longtime friend than a host. We chose our dishes in advance, and Maria made everything easy to follow and delicious. Before cooking, she gave us a beautiful tour of her olive grove, sharing fascinating insights about the trees and Greek culture. The whole experience was warm, personal, and full of authentic hospitality. Maria’s class is the perfect example of Greek warmth and generosity — a highlight of our trip we’ll never forget!
If you are looking for an authentic experience as it were with best friends then don’t hesitate and spend time with Maria. Maria is a great host, with great stories and will let you enjoy delicious fresh food under an olive tree. No rush, just enjoy and leave with a smile for an afternoon well spent.
Maria was amazing! We learned about Greek history, culture and food habits through her own personal family history and experiences. Maria was so kind and focused on having our kids lend a helpful hand in the meal prep. I know that this unique collective experience will stay with my family and I for many years to come. I highly recommend visiting Maria and tasting her amazing food :-)
We had a cooking lesson with Maria today and it's been one of the highlights of our two-week honeymoon in Crete. Maria is such a kind, genuine person and couldn't have been more accommodating. Everything was absolutely perfect! The location is beautiful, the food was delicious, and Maria is an excellent teacher and host. We had a lovely time learning to cook authentic Cretan food and we've come away with plenty of recipes and tips to try to recreate the dishes at home. The price was very reasonable, and it was a really nice, relaxing way to spend a few hours - we came away feeling refreshed and incredibly well fed! We couldn't recommend this experience enough to anyone visiting Crete.
Maria is the perfect hostess, not only for the cooking area, very informal and to our personal wishes. She also gave very interesting explanations about the culture of Crete and the ingredients from her own garden. The cooking class (actually not a class but working together in the kitchen) in a very friendly atmosphere. The recipes were delicious. Dolmades with their own picked vine leaves, snails with artichokes from the garden in lemon sauce, Zucchini cake, meatballs with lots of spices and the delicious rooster in wine sauce. Highly recommended!! Thank you Maria.
The cooking class with Maria was a wonderful moment – great atmosphere, delicious recipes and lots of fun! Highly recommended, give it a try!
Maria welcomed us warmly in your great garden. After a delicious refreshment she showed and explained everything about the olives, almonds, pomegranates and mandarins of her garden. The cooking in the original and cozy kitchen from the mid-19th century. We had a lot of fun in the 19th century and the food was delicious. Mary packed the rest for us to take away. It was a very nice and cozy lunch and Maria was really extremely friendly, accommodating and warm. We recommend it to anyone who has a bit of interest in cooking and appreciates very good and regional cuisine. If we could, we would award 10 stars!
We had a cooking class with Maria today and had the very best time! Maria is the perfect hostess and we felt so comfortable and welcome. The tour of the garden with her explanations of the different trees, plants, fruits and herbs was super interesting and the subsequent cooking under her guidance and with her expertise was huge fun. We are very well fed, with the leftovers in our luggage and some recipes in our head for cooking again:-) This was a really great experience and we can highly recommend it!
