George, our tour guide was superb. He took us to interesting places like the olive oil processor, the monastery, the military cemetery. We had a nice stop from a scenic view of the city with a bottle of wine and a lovely lunch and old city tour where George pointed out the historic buildings, walls and ruins. A terrific, stress free day where we learned about Crete from a knowledgeable native of Crete.

We had an absolutely wonderful day exploring Crete with George from SunSud Tours! From start to finish, he was an incredible guide and made our day feel so personal and special. He was extremely knowledgeable about Crete’s history, culture, and landmarks, but what really stood out was how genuinely friendly, thoughtful, and accommodating he was throughout the entire day. We loved getting to see Rethymno, the Holy Trinity Monastery, the Venizelos Graves, and Chania, and George brought every stop to life with fascinating stories and history. He also took us to some wonderful local spots that we never would have found on our own. One of our favorite things about the day was all of the thoughtful little surprises along the way. George surprised us with wine during the tour, and he even treated us to a delicious pastry in the morning. Those personal touches made the experience feel so much more than just a sightseeing tour. We truly felt like we were spending the day with someone who wanted us to have the best possible experience in Crete. By the end of the day, we felt like we had not only seen so much of the island, but had also gotten to know it through someone who clearly loves his home. If you’re visiting Crete and looking for a private tour, we cannot recommend George and SunSud Tours enough. It was one of the highlights of our trip, and we’re so grateful we got to spend the day with him! 🇬🇷❤️
We had the best tour guide ever, George was an absolute wealth of information! Every place we stopped at we learnt so much about its history, which by the way, George presented in a very interesting way. Apart from being so knowledgeable, he was very polite and attentive but also with a great sense of humour, and a very good driver. If you book the Chania tour, ask for George, you will not regret it. The tour was a little expensive but what we saw and learnt, was worth every cent.
What a magical day it was seeing the sights of Rethymno and Chania with our tour guide George! I would highly recommend booking tours with Sunsud Tours. George was so welcoming and full of knowledge about the history of the island and the sights he took us too. We started at a local olive mill for a tour of the mill and an olive oil tasting with a third generation owner. Next we visited a gorgeous monastery that had ancient artifacts, art, gardens, and olive oil and wine tasting. We finished the day in Chania Old Town where George continued to imbue us with the Greek culture and local history. It was so charming and we finished our tour in Chania at a local restaurant on the harbour! We loved George so much and can’t say enough good things about him. He truly made our first day on Crete a day we will never forget. Thank you again George! You Rock! 🫶🏻🇬🇷🙏
This was a great tour. It gave us a beautiful overview of Rethymno and Chania including a tour of the monastery and an olive mill. It was so informative. Our tour guide, George Dermitzakis, was the best. His service was exquisite. His knowledge of Crete was amazing and it really helped us understand all the changes Crete went through. It was amazing to understand how olive oil is made, especially since he had history with working in the olive oil business. There were four of us on this tour and we left wishing that we could book everyday with George!!’
George picked us up at our hotel at the designated time. His car was quite comfortable. He is very knowledgeable about the history and geography of the area. We enjoyed the day in his delightful company and learned a lot about Crete. It was a well organized trip with options of places to visit. highly recommend using his services.
Our family spent a lovely day on private tour hosted by George of SunSud tour company. The entire day was perfectly organized, never felt rush and allowed us admire the beauty of surroundings while listening to George about the history of the region in engaging and informative manner. We enjoyed several stops on our way to Chania. The first stop was a beautiful viewpoint above Rethymno where George shared information about the historical periods of the city. We all including our children enjoyed the next stop at Kanakis Olive Mill where we were guided through the factory and shared explanation on the oil producing processes, then tasting olive oil and other local products. Afterward we drve along the bay admiring views of Gulf of Souda. We have a short stop at the Allied Cemetery where we paid our respect to the soldiers who fell in May 1941. One of the favorite stops was the Trinity Monastery of Tzagarolon where we were toured by George listening to fascinating stories. Later on we enjoyed a special wine tasting accompanied by a selection of traditional products at the monastery's old cellar. At Chania city we were guided through the picturesque harbor and explored the charm of Old town concluded by lunch at Antigoni Tavern enjoying sea view. If you are looking for very welcome, well-planned and enjoyable tour to Chania, we highly recommend SunSud hosted by George. Thank you for unforgettable day in Crete.
George is incredible, great guide and very knowledgeable.
I can’t say enough about the fantastic day we had in Chania & the surrounding area. From the very start our experience was perfect. Our host/driver kept in close communication with us-as we were coming in on a cruise ship this is So important. Because we had a private driver the entire day catered to our interests and needs. Highlights for us were visiting the WWII allied cemetery, Olive oil tour & tasting, The Holy Trinity Monastery with (delicious) wine tasting among other sites and spectacular scenic views. Our tour ended with a walking tour of the city- so rich in history! Without our guide we would have missed so much. It was a perfect day!
Amazing one-day tour from Heraklion to Chania Old Town and some of Crete’s top sights! Everything was well organized, enjoyable, and a great way to experience the beauty of the island. George, our tour operator, was absolutely amazing—friendly, knowledgeable, and very helpful throughout the day. We had a fantastic experience and would highly recommend this tour to anyone visiting Crete!

The tour in Chania was great, George picked us up right on time at the port and took us to a beautiful olive grove where we had a tasting; after that we went to a monastery that had beautiful gardens. My favorite part was the old town tour with all the little shops; his recommendation for lunch was perfect & his knowledge of the history of the island and commentary were on point.
Our experience with SudSud Tours in Chania was absolutely outstanding! Our guide, George, was exceptional from start to finish. He was warm, patient, knowledgeable, and made us feel welcome throughout the entire day. The tour included everything that was promised and more. We enjoyed an excellent olive oil tasting, explored the beautiful island of Crete, and wandered through the charming Old Town of Chania, where George shared fascinating insights about the area’s history and culture. One of the highlights of the day was lunch at a traditional Greek seaside restaurant. The food was absolutely delicious, and the waterfront setting made the experience even more memorable. George joined us for lunch, making the experience feel personal and relaxed while answering our questions and sharing more about local life and traditions. The entire day was perfectly organized, never felt rushed, and allowed us to truly appreciate the beauty, history, and hospitality of Crete. If you’re looking for an authentic, well-planned, and enjoyable tour of Chania, I highly recommend SudSud Tours—and if you have the opportunity to tour with George, you’re in for a wonderful experience. Thank you for an unforgettable day!
My husband and I spent a lovely and memorable day on a tour hosted by George of SunSud Tours. This was a private tour. George met us promptly at our hotel in Rethymno, and we set off on our journey to Chania with several interesting stops along the way. The drive along the bay was beautiful, and George shared the history of the region in an engaging and informative manner. One of our first stops was the Palladian Olive Mill. Unfortunately, there was a power outage, so we were unable to see the olive oil machinery in operation. However, George provided an excellent explanation of the process, and we also met Vassilis, who guided us through a tasting of several olive oils. We had never tasted olive oil of such exceptional quality and came away with a completely new understanding of what to look for when purchasing olive oil in the future. One of our favorite stops was the Holy Trinity Monastery of Tzagarolon. The grounds were beautiful, and as we toured the monastery, George shared fascinating stories about its history. My husband especially enjoyed a special wine tasting with Nektarios, the monastery’s sommelier. Later, we strolled through the picturesque harbor of Chania and explored the charming Old Town, filled with unique shops and inviting restaurants. We also enjoyed driving through the historic streets of Rethymno and learning more about the city. We felt our time was very well spent and thoroughly enjoyed our day with George and SunSud Tours. George is friendly and very knowledgeable and we learned so much about Crete, its history and culture. We highly recommend this tour to anyone wanting to experience the history, culture, and beauty of western Crete.
My wife and I did a 1 day tour from Heraklion to Chania with George. George is an amazing person, extremely knowledgeable, respectful and respectable, humble and has a great sense of humor. George gave us our choice of sites to go to on the way to Chania, picked the best places to eat and walk, and got to know us very quickly. I have studied Greek history since I was very young and George was still able to teach me a lot about the history of Crete. George knew when and where to be to make the experience the best possible one for us. You will not regret booking with George and if we end up in Crete again, not only would I want to book with him again, I would love to just say hello in person as a friend.
I had a great tour with George. The archaeological sites and towns were wonderful. George was very knowledgeable and focused on providing the best experience, accommodating for places of particular interest to me. It was a very special day.
George provided an excellent tour of Chania and the surrounding area on the island of Crete. We had the opportunity to visit the city of Chania and the nearby harbor district. There were several wonderful cafes, great shopping opportunities and the beautiful harbor itself. George took us to an olive oil factory and we were able to sample many types of olive oil and have the process of producing olive oil explained. It was amazing. We then visited a Famous Monestary in the area known for vast olive tree orchards and vineyards. We had a tasting at a wine producer located on the Monestary grounds. Again, that tasting was excellent. We also visited a graveyard where prominent people of Crete are buried and learned the contributions of those people to Crete and Greece. The tour was excellent. George provided the history of Crete from several centuries ago through present day. We highly recommend this tour with George! 5 stars!
Crete is a big island and we only had 3 days so decided to stay in Heraklion. You cannot visit Greece without seeing Hania and the best way to do this is on George’s well curated and wonderfully executed day trip. He is extremely knowledgeable about the history, culture and sites of the island and we made many relevant stops before actually reaching Hania. I could not recommend this journey more warmly
Our driver George was both knowledgeable and enthusiastic, and willing to answer any questions. Very accommodating about making an extra stop to the oldest oil tree in Chania! Highly recommend George a d this excursion!
Georgios was our amazing tour guide for our excursion in Chania. We had a small group of four and it was perfect. He took us to wonderful places with amazing scenery and we got to learn a lot about his hometown. This was one of our favorite excursions. The olive tasting and wine tasting at the monastery were a highlight! We would highly recommend this tour.
Great experience touring with George! He is very knowledgeable about the places we visited and is very helpful and responsive even at planning stage. Will definitely recommend to anyone visiting the island of Crete for the first time!
It’s been a great experience traveling with George! He is very knowledgeable about the history of places we visit and provided very good advice on the itinerary. At planning stage, George has already been very helpful and responsive to enquiries. Absolutely recommend if you need an expert to take you around!!!
Unfortunately we had the worst weather day for this tour but we made the most of it. George came prepared with 2 umbrellas for us which was awesome or else we would have been soaked. George was very knowledgeable and nice. It was a long drive but well worth it to see Chania and Rethymnon because we know when we come back we are definitely staying in that area versus Herculion. I would highly recommend this tour to see a whole new area and have a great tour guide with George.
We had a great trip with George. He gave great stories. Gave us a great tour around Chania. Had a a nice surprise for us at the lookout over Chania. Great recommendation for lunch. Would take a tour with George again. Was very accommodating on our drop off at the end of the day as well.
We went to Chania without any expectations. Our guide, George, led us through a set of curated experiences that showed how the rhythm of lives and civilizations continues through the centuries. He wove in his family history as we went through an olive mill and tasted the different grades of oils, walked through an Orthodox monastery and pondered our mortality at the ossuary, and wandered through the medieval old town by the bay watching families enjoy lunch by the waterfront. We left with a feeling of quiet delight, thankful for the opportunity to see this beautiful part of the world, and for the privilege of meeting a new friend who generously opened a window into this timeless culture. Bravo, George! We hope to see you soon!
I have to say that we didn’t have high expectations for Crete when we were visiting such islands as Santorini. But, thanks to George, it became our favorite because of all the interesting places he had us visit- an olive oil processing plant, a most interesting monastery with a wine and olive oil tasting and a delicious, authentic Greek meal. He knows his island and tailors his tours to his group plus a very nice guy!
George proved to be a very lucky choice to conduct our tour of Crete. He had thought carefully and wanted to show us as much of the local culture and history as he could in our tour of the island. George is personable, well-spoken, and thoughtful. His command of English is exceptional, and he makes great effort to be sure his clients are having an enjoyable experience learning about Crete. I highly recommend George!
This tour exceeded my expectations. There was a misunderstanding about the port our ship docked. George went above and beyond to arrange an alternative itinerary at the last minute. We were so grateful! George was knowledgeable and thorough in providing information about our tour sites. He was friendly and accommodating. His van was immaculate. We truly enjoyed our visit to Chania. Thank you, George!
Our brilliant guide George packed our tour with panoramic vistas, excellent olive oil tasting (Pallada Olive Mill), a visit to a historic monastery and a seaside stroll through Chaina’s old town. Top it off with a delicious seafood meal and wine and it was a perfect day. George spoke with a deep knowledge and passion for Crete and its amazing history. His English was excellent as was his driving. I would highly recommend his tours.
George was an exceptional guide. Very professional and you could tell he was very proud of his country! He showed us the highlights and gave us awesome information about Crete. We loved spending our day with him.
What a fantastic day we had with George. As we were arriving by cruise ship, he called the day before to confirm which port we were arriving in. As it turned out, I had booked the tour from the wrong port and George drove two hours to arrange an alternate tour for us. We started the day with an Olive oil tasting at Pallada. We learned so much about olive oil from harvesting to the different varieties. From there we went to a 16th century monastery which was lovely and so great to see. While driving George shared lots of information about the history of the island and stopped at many beautiful viewpoints along the way. We ended the day with a visit to Chania’s old town where we strolled along the waterfront and explored the hidden streets. We stopped at a local taverna where we had a delicious lunch offering lots of authentic dishes. Our group would not hesitate to recommend George for a guided, personalized tour of this lovely island.
George did a wonderful job. He was extremely considerate and caring and made sure we saw everything. I would highly recommend his services.
From the very start, the day unfolded with ease; every stop felt thoughtful and perfectly timed. Along the drive, we heard just the right amount of stories and insights about Crete, always delivered in a way that made the island come alive without ever feeling overwhelming. Wandering through Chania’s Old Town was a joy, full of hidden corners and history, and the lunch right by the Venetian Harbor was simply unforgettable. The whole experience felt smooth, personal, and genuine. The kind of day that becomes the highlight of a vacation.
We had an outstanding time with our host George! He struck the perfect balance—professional, reliable, and at the same time approachable and easygoing. On the drive to Chania, he kept us entertained with stories, sharp insights, and even quick-fire quizzes that turned the journey into part of the adventure. The highlight, though, was Chania itself. The Old Town is simply mesmerizing—its Venetian harbor, the maze of narrow cobblestone streets, the blend of Venetian and Ottoman architecture—it all felt like stepping into a living history book. And to top it off, we had an unforgettable lunch in a traditional taverna that hit the spot. Highly recommended!
