We did the tour over 2 days. Both of us had problems with the App not playing at different points. It was pretty interesting, some subjects more so than others. Overall not bad but a bit expensive esp as we had issues.

Was looking for a no charge guide at short notice and couldn’t find one, but this is a very good substitute. Did a good job of knowing where we were, and keeping us on track, as well as providing lots of informative and interesting history.
Excellent walking tour over two days at your own pace
Very good app. The tour is interesting and well narrated. You can pause at any stage if you want to take a break. Would definitely recommend
A very easy app to use ( although it takes a bit of time to actually sign up, pay & download). We decided to buy separate apps for our two phones to avoid hassles of trying to negotiate how we were to share, if we bought two plans at the same time. The narrator was Greek (unlike other apps). It was clear to understand her English. She was a calm presenter with a pleasant manner. She took us to places in CHANIA that we would never had known existed. We did it over two days. Giving us plenty of time to look at shops etc. In total, at a slow pace, it took about three hours. We would highly recommend this app.
Very comprehensive walking tour for history & culture around Chania - just needs updating as Market where it starts is currently under renovation & has been for some time
The audio experience was terrible. We could connect only one device at a time which made it useless. We gave up on it. Wouldn’t recommend
We enjoyed the self paced tour. She gave us excellent information and the tracking device was perfect! I wish other locations had this available.
The tour took us to places we would never have discovered on our own, which was great. We did have difficulty starting the tour and halfway through it said we had come to the end and I found it difficult to restart, but this could have been down to experience with the technology and new Bluetooth earphones!! What we did get though was very interesting and informative and easy to understand and we were very happy.
This audio tour was super! The app literally guides you every step of the way. A great way to see historic Chania!
The audio tour took over 4 hours to get half way. It was then dark we plan to do the rest the next day and ended up just listening and not walking the tour Good to get a feel of the history. Lots of details
We love to do a walking tour when visiting a new city but I couldn’t find one in Chania so we tried this app. It’s very easy to download and user friendly. The only thing missing was the ability to ask questions of a tour guide. LOTS of historical information and a great way to explore the small alleyways in Old Town. There were a couple of sites with Minoan ruins we would not have known about if we had not done this tour.
Excellent tour. Would never have found the hidden alleys and sights without this. The GPS-based tracking made sure I stayed on track. Did the tour in two parts, in overall it took three hours with very relaxed pace.
Chania Town, located on the stunning island of Crete, is a captivating blend of history and vibrant culture. The town boasts an array of historical sites, including the impressive Venetian Harbor, the charming old town with its narrow alleys, and the beautiful old mosque-turned-museum. Each corner seems to whisper stories from the past, making it a paradise for history enthusiasts. In addition to its historical charm, Chania is brimming with shops and boutiques, offering everything from local artisan crafts to trendy fashion. Strolling through the market, visitors can find unique souvenirs, delicious local delicacies, and fresh produce that showcase the region's rich culinary heritage. However, one drawback of Chania Town is its traffic, which can be quite congested, especially during peak tourist season. Navigating the roads can be frustrating for both locals and visitors alike, so it's advisable to explore the town on foot whenever possible to truly immerse oneself in its beauty. Overall, Chania Town is a delightful destination rich in history and culture, though travelers should be prepared for its busy streets. Whether you're seeking to explore historical landmarks or shop for unique gifts, Chania offers a memorable experience.
Great to have a walk around Old Town while getting supplementary Information on the ancient sights. We didn't make the whole tour in one day, gladly you can resume your tour and pick up where you left, if you happen to not make it in one go. There are some takes of recording where there's a speaking mistake, but that is not something I found disturbing in any way.
We were running late due to a taxi caught in traffic. There was no way to call the operator of the tour to find out where to catch up. I messaged them on the Viator site and no answer. We lost out on the tour and Viator refused to refund the $. I have booked many Viator tours and not having a phone number available or the attempt of the operator to call us or respond is unacceptable.
We really enjoyed walking through beautiful Old Chania at our own pace. We stopped at a delighted restaurant where flowering bushes added to the view and shade to the area we chose to sit. It is an area worth visiting for sure!
Great value. Download to your phone connect to a pair of Bluetooth headphones and your away. Explore at your own pace and do it in more than one hit we did. We've used this provider a couple of times. Very satisfactory. I can't get excited its a self guided walking tour but I'll used the provider again and am happy to recommend.
Excellent way to visit the city at your own pace while learning the history and discovering "hidden" gems. Like the restored synagog. Pick up, stop and resume facility worked well. Highly recommended
Lovely way to be guided around the old streets although could have been more informative...why did the old Market Place at the start point become defunct?? We did experience some repetition as mentioned in a few other reviews but it did work out in the end. Important to remember that so long as you stick to the correct route, the narrative will restart at the relevant geo points. Worth the price to avoid going around in circles as we are prone to do!! 😄
Enjoyed this way of touring. Easy to follow. I don’t think I would have walked the beautiful back streets around the port. Some repeating , but I’m sure it had to do with me stopping and waiting. Not sure if flipping back and forth taking pictures had something to do with it too. Overall a nice experience.
Absolutely brilliant way to see parts of the town you would not normally venture out to see. Well worth the money. It says 90 mins to do but to be fair you can take as long as you like. We took about four hours but that's because we stopped a lot. When you get to the synagogue I recommend you ring the door bell and someone will let you in.
I learned things on this tour that were very interesting. I wasn’t able to finish it because I got lost several times. It’s worth the money
Excellent tour that really laid out the basics of Chania. We felt well acclimated after the tour and spent the next couple of days visiting sites on our own. Definitely recommended.
Excellent information and walking route, very enjoyable. I took my time, about 2-3 hours with stops, so I’d say that anybody trying to do the tour in just 60-90 minutes will really be rushing.
Best self guided audio tour we’ve ever had! Loved that it was at our own pace. The technology worked so well. The speaker (in English) was easy to understand and directions were clear
First half of tour was good and informative. Second half took us through what seemed like some seedy neighborhoods with not much interesting points of interest. Overall a good experience.
The tour is outdated. The map would not charge at some point and therefore it was very hard to follow the instructions. Overall very messy
I liked the city a lot more after this tour. There are so many surprising nooks and crannies that you wouldn’t otherwise see; I’m always surprised here in chania about what you may find around the corner. The tour was a great intro to this ancient city, inexpensive and really convenient to stop and start. Definitely worth it, particularly if you don’t plan on taking a tour with a tour guide!! Do this tour, you will appreciate the city even more.
We had a nice and very interesting walk through Chania Old Town. The audio guide runs smoothly and guides you very reliable through the ancient labyrinth.
Some of the tours we saw being advertised looked expensive so we decided to go for this tour which uses the VoiceMap app and is far, far cheaper. It's really informative and the accuracy of the GPS with the tour guide's instructions on where exactly you have to go means you rarely have to take out your phone to check if you're on the right path. You can also pause the your as you like if you want to stop for food or shopping. Really good.
What a fun little tour! We couldn’t remember the gal’s name who narrates it but we felt like we had a friend explaining Chania to us. She informs you of all the history but also makes suggestions for bar & cafes along the way. It was very current information - she describes a changing neighborhood and it’s current state very well. I would definitely recommend this even if only as a way to explore Chania old town.
