Upon reaching the Balos area, you’ll follow a natural trail of moderate difficulty, taking about 1 hour in total (25 minutes downhill and 35 minutes uphill). The trail is part of the adventure and offers unforgettable views! You’ll have around 4 hours of free time in the area (1 hour in total for the trail), including approximately 3 hours of actual beach time to swim in the crystal-clear waters, explore the lagoon, relax and take photos. Along the way, you may encounter Crete’s wildlife, including wild goats and eagles, as well as bees and other local species. This is more than just a transfer to Balos — it’s an authentic Jeep adventure combining wild nature, breathtaking scenery and freedom.

A great trip with friendly guides. Balos beach is really beautiful, great for swimming. Just be prepared for a half hour walk down to it, and then back up!! Wear trainers, crater than flip flops

We chose this tour because we specifically wanted to see Balos Lagoon from the top. Arriving by boat is undoubtedly beautiful, but it doesn't provide the same breathtaking "wow" moment as seeing the lagoon from above before hiking down. We had a rental car and were surprised to learn when picking up the car that rental agreements in Crete typically prohibit driving the rough road to Balos, with penalties of €250-300 for doing so. This is not always made very clear by rental agencies. Choosing this tour turned out to be an excellent decision. The pickup location was easy to find, with free parking just a couple of minutes away. We received a warm welcome, interesting local stories, and useful tips before heading to the start of the hike. The views of Balos from the top were absolutely spectacular, and we had plenty of time to enjoy the turquoise shallow waters of the lagoon. A nice touch was the bottle of ice-cold water waiting for us after the hike back. My advice: don't attempt the off-road drive in a rental car. Apart from potential penalties, the road conditions are quite rough. Also, make sure to wear proper footwear for the hike. Overall, this was a well-organized experience and, in our opinion, the best way to visit Balos Lagoon. Highly recommended!
We had an excellent experience with the Balos 4x4 Off-Road Tour and would highly recommend it. The instructions for getting to the meeting point were clear and accurate, and there’s a free car park nearby if you’re driving. From the moment we arrived, we received an incredibly warm welcome and were even treated to some delicious local sweets. This is a genuine family-run business, and their kindness and hospitality really stood out. During the drive to Balos, we learned a lot about the local area, and the driver shared great recommendations on the best spots around the lagoon to visit while avoiding the crowds. We had around 3 hours to enjoy Balos Lagoon, not including the 30-minute journey down and the 30-minute return trip (although this will depend on your walking pace). We took our time and never felt rushed. For us, this was by far the best way to visit Balos. The road is extremely rough, and I personally wouldn’t risk taking a rental car on it. This tour removes all the stress and lets you simply enjoy one of Crete’s most beautiful locations. One final tip: wear good walking shoes, as the trek down to the lagoon and back up is very rocky. Also, make sure you take plenty of water for both directions. I can’t stress those two points enough—they’ll make your visit much more enjoyable!

Our experience was truly wonderful. We were welcomed at the office with warm smiles and genuine kindness. Everything started exactly on time, without any delays. Our driver was very friendly, funny, and made us feel comfortable from the very beginning. The journey was enjoyable and completely stress-free. During the trip, he shared interesting stories and information about Balos and the surrounding area, which made the excursion even more special. The view from above was absolutely breathtaking. I had never seen anything so beautiful before. We stopped to take photos and then went down to the beach, where we had plenty of time to relax and enjoy the incredible scenery. Looking back, I’m really happy we chose this excursion instead of taking the boat. We would have missed those spectacular views from above, while the boats are usually extremely crowded. In addition, by the time we got off the boat and reached the beach, we would have lost valuable time from our stay there. Instead, with this tour we had much more time to enjoy the area at our own pace, which made a huge difference. I highly recommend this experience. Fantastic day from start to finish. Everything waa flawless and great communication. The pickup point in Kissamos is easy to find and there are free parking lots nearby to park. Helpful tips: bring your sunscreen, hat, your own towels and water. We saw people do the hike in sandals but would recommend proper shoes as it is uneven terrain, rocks and loose dirt. I would not recommend this to anyone with mobility issues. The views from the 1st viewpoint are so impressive. A boat tour won't provide the views and experience that this tour offers. This is the perfect way to get in some exercise and enjoy the beauty of this lagoon. The local goats are adorable and will take food if you offer it. Great tour !

The guide & driver was funny and the trip to the beach was really great and had a amazing view. Pretty expensive for only the ride, the beach is really beautiful and warm water. It’s a lot of stairs and a long way down to the beach so I don’t recommend it for small children or anyone with any sort of body issues.
The service was very well provided, with careful and attentive drivers. The car for the trip there could have been better, as it was older, with dust residue (the road is dirt), and the air was weak for the 6 people. But on the way back the car was much newer, and since there were two jeeps there, they divided, so we went alone, and the air conditioning was very pleasant. The beach is the most beautiful in Crete, and one of the most beautiful I have ever seen in my life. So, I consider this a must-see trip in Crete.
Beautiful place, especially at 8 in the morning, to enjoy the sea without too much crowding. The meeting point was easy to find and convenient from the parking lot. We left on time and the guys were helpful and friendly. They offered us a welcome cookie and after the climb back up from Balos, they gave us some cold water. A very positive experience that we recommend! 🩷
An excellent experience! It was truly the ideal solution for discovering Balos. The jeep trip with a driver is very convenient and allows access to Balos without having to take the boat or drive on the dirt road with a rental car. The biggest advantage is being able to enjoy the magnificent panoramic view during the descent to the beach. The landscape is simply exceptional and it is an experience that one would miss by arriving by boat. The guides are also really lovely! Throughout the trip, they share anecdotes and explanations about the surroundings, the history, and the landscapes, which makes the journey even more pleasant and interesting. I recommend this service without hesitation to anyone who wishes to visit Balos in the best possible way!

Balos is a beautiful place. Discovered in April it was ideal for walking, picnicking and swimming for the brave. Our drivers were very welcoming and caring for us. Leaving with this company was the perfect option: no stress for the ride, faster transport, explanations from drivers, friendly atmosphere
