Private Tour Of Cozumel In Your Own Way Groups Up To 6 People

It was great to have a private excursion without being in a crowd and having to follow a group, but if you do this in Cozumel I recommend having places already planned that you want to go and don't leave it up to the tour guide. I feel like our tour guide took us to his friend/family who were vendors and the vendors were deceptive regarding the items we purchased. They hounded us to buy things which really took away from some of the fun of the day. Then when we decided to buy they switched what they gave us for something of a lesser value. This is regarding vanilla and tequila. Also our driver (Goku) took a lot of tequila shots during our tequila tasting, then drove us around the island very fast in the rain. Fortunately we did not have any issues but it felt very unprofessional and unsafe to me. We opted to be dropped back at the port a little early because we just didnt feel secure after some time. Also, we feel scammed after this excursion (the tequila was not what we were tasiting and asked for and the vanilla was water). I believe that this could really be a good excursion if the tour guide was more professional and vendors were honest. We were in Cozumel and took this excursion on Monday, 10/26/26.

Ok so the ad said a van. It was a jeep. It was a hot day and the a/c didn't work. It wasn't too bad with the windows down, except for the hot air blowing constantly on my feet. The jeep also had other mechanical issues and a flat tire. Our driver Charlie was very nice and gave good info on the sites. Where we were supposed to determine where to go that's not really true. They have a predetermined route that is all people they know, I'm guessing family. The shopping was good! The tequila tasting was good. The exception is that I have a 161.98 extra charge on my card that I did not make. I will be disputing when I get home. The beach was nice. The shopping there was the problem. I was making a 110.00 purchase which he wold me was 2200 pesos. He charged me 3200 pesos. I asked for a receipt and he printed it and folded it really small and handed it to me. Thats how I figured it out. After I confronted him and he did get it refunded. When trying to charge the correct amount my bank sent me a fraud alert for 132.51 which was still wrong. I told them never mind and left. So while the money for the tour was worth it, I got a bad taste for the fraudulent charges.

We had a great time with Goku. He showed us an amazing beach at Chen Rio. We saw black coral and beautiful obsidian. We learned about Mayan Culture and Cozumel. The air conditioner in the van was lovely.

Great time. Had a wonderful experience. Will use again if our travels take us there in the future. XO

We had a wonderful day in Cozumel, and a big part of that was our amazing tour guide, Beto! He was always making sure our family—and especially our 4-year-old granddaughter—had everything we needed. Beto took us to some special places, including Pueblo del Maíz, which was such a fun Maya immersion experience. He also shared interesting facts about the island and took his time answering all our questions. He genuinely wanted us to have a great experience.

Roberto was an excellent guide, very friendly and knowledgeable. He took time to explain all details about the island including wildlife, ecosystems, and geological formations. He also showed us very interesting information about the local culture, history and traditions. Getting to know the historical importance of the corn and cocoa in the Mayan culture was a memorable experience. We will connect with Roberto the next time we visit Cozumel.

Guide was friendly and knowledgeable. But the places they take you are sucked. Way over priced chocolate and tequila. Might as well just buy it at the port at their high price. I asked to stop at a pharmacy and he took us to a no named backstreet store that had a little bit of everything with one shelf of sketchy looking prescriptions. I asked to go to a restaurant where the locals eat. They take you to a restaurant that was also overpriced. 2 tacos for $16. In Progresso we paid $26 for a meal for 5 people. Cozumel, be more like Progresso and Merida.

Goku was an amazing tour guide and driver. He tailored the tour to include only what we wanted to do. He knows his island and was able to give us the best possible time. Book and enjoy! ESPECIALLY Book for a shore excursion! It will cost you a fraction of a cruise tour cost and you will do what YOU want! No buses, just enjoyment.

We had a terrific guide. His name was Goku. He drove us around from the Flea Market, to a church (which we asked for) then to the beach. He was very patient and kind. He spoke English well enough and explained the history and culture of Cozumel. He was very helpful and considerate. We highly recommend him as a driver and a tour guide.

Experience was touristy only. The driver had places that he knew and were expensive. A bar he took us to was su expensive and not worth it. Driver had beers and drive us. Not cool.

Miguel was our driver and he was awesome 10/10! We went to Punta sur reserve and tequila tasting. We even made a stop for fresh juice. He was flexible, funny, excellent driver and shared alot of knowledge about the area. Highly recommend.

Beto was friendly and flexible to our family’s needs. He had planned out some ideas to see the east coast, but accommodated our family’s request since we had young children with us. We specifically wanted to see a cenote, San Gervasio, eat at a local restaurant, and stop by a grocery store before heading back to our hotel— and Beto did exactly that. Would highly recommend.

our guide beto was awesome! he was super knowledgeable about the city , spoke fluent english and toured us all around the city and stayed with me and my family the whole time! no matter if we were at gift shop or the beach - he always checked up on us to make sure we were okay :) i would highly recommend beto & would ask for him again!!

Do not use, we communicated through the whole process of our day with no response. Viator rep also tried to contact them with no response. Viator handled it very well and got us a refund.

Our driver, Pedro, picked us up as scheduled and he proceeded to take us all around the island of Cozumel. He was extremely knowledgeable and enjoyed everything about the trip.

Our Tour guide Goku was great and knowledgeable about the island. He communicated with us about pick up the day before to confirm and sent a picture so we would know what he looked like and met us on time. That was very reassuring. Took us where we wanted to go plus a few places that he knew which weren't bad. Felt like we drive every road on the island and really got to see alot. Just note there is an extra charge for the Mayan Ruins that we thought were included with the tour. Outside of that everything was great.

Pedro made our day in Cozumel unforgettable. He took us beyond the typical tourist attractions and showed us local spots that gave us a real feel for the island. The highlight was an amazing cenote visit that we would have never discovered on our own. Pedro was friendly, knowledgeable, professional, and always focused on making sure we had a great experience. Very accommodating. Were able to add a third vehicle at the last minute for the 5 family members who decided to join. The stop at the souvenir shop, monuments, and black coral demonstration were all fun and kept everyone's interest. The stop for the tequila "experience" was fun too, kids got to hold an iguana and macaw. The tequila making part was pointing at pictures and sampling their tequila. Overall not bad, but dont expect to see it being made. Next was lunch. This is where it turned for us. We got there and were told they had no meat but fish and shrimp, with 7 kids, it was a great disappointment, we were not given a real choice of where to eat. Just pulled in and said here is lunch. On top, prices are not well presented and paid way more than should have. Goku was a great driver and has clearly been at this a long time. In the end, we had a decent time, spent more than would have on an excursion, but had fun as a whole family.

The tour was good. The tour guide Claudio took us to out of the way places that we normally wouldn’t see, went to a place where a black coral operator worked and looked at his beautiful creations. The organic tequila farm and we drove around the island.

Highly recommend the private tour. Miguel arrived a few minutes before our meeting time. He was very knowledgeable, friendly and answered all of our questions. He had a few planned stops, but accommodated our tour by adding additional requested stops and skipped ones that we chose not to visit. The tour was great!

Claudio had his own agenda. We went to out-of-the way places (stores) run by his friends where he got a kick-back by bringing us there. Either money or food. We saw slum areas and poverty everywhere we went. The car windows were dirty and not good to take photos. Claudio talked fast and was hard to hear from the back seat. We didn't see much that we liked and regretted our choice. This tour convinced us that we have no desire to see any more of Cozumel or Mexico. We are senior citizens who wanted a ride to see the best parts of the area which did not happen. Like I said, we saw all the poverty areas. We did stop at two free beaches, but had no desire to swim as we weren't prepared with suits and towels. Claudio says he works part time for Viator and has his own tour company. Maybe? We do not drink alcohol as we are prohibited by our medication. He took us to a nice informational stop to learn of Tequila distillation. The bottles started at $90.00 for a tequila mix. We are not drinkers. I am sure it was disappointing when we bought nothing. I think we would have been happier taking a taxi at the port, or grabbing an excursion as we left the ship. There were many venders right there. Beware of drivers who know this is your first trip to Cozumel. You need to have a prepared list of places you want to see and just go to those places.

​If you're looking for the real Cozumel, this is it. We loved the freedom of the tour and the "backcountry" feel of the eastern coast. The vehicles were in great shape, and the route was perfectly planned to show us the contrast between the turquoise waters and the jungle side. It’s the best value for your money if you want to see the whole island in one day.

Claudio Romero was an excellent guide -Very knowledgeable about the island history. Since we have been to the island there were places we wanted to revisit-Claudio made sure to incorporate them within our tour . My husband and friend really enjoyed the Tequila

Scheduled pick up at mutually agreed upon location and time. Our group was there (early) and our shuttle never arrived. I tried texting (more than once) and calling, to a number that did not exist. We had to make travel arrangements with a different service (more expensive too). I did finally make contact later in the day, but it was past the point of no return. I am now awaiting to see if they refund my payment.

Our trip to Cozumel was sensational. Our driver Claudio was so Knowledgeable and professional last year that I requested him to be our driver again this year. We were traveling with two older ladies with walking issues, and he designed a day that allowed them to explore and truly experience the island in all it's glory, even with their limitations. Claudio took us on a monument tour, taking the time for photos and giving us the history and the importance of each monument. Then we went to an agave ranch where we learn the process of making tequila with tastings and shopping before taking a coastal ride through San Martin beach area to visit Paco the Crocodile before taking in some lunch and beach time at a beach side grill with the most beautiful view and shopping. On our way back across the island to the cruise port, we learned more about the history and wildlife of the island. Claudio has always been so fun and keeps us informed and laughing the whole day through. He is an amazing guide and a new good friend. We look forward to visiting Cozumel again soon and will definitely be requesting our friend Claudio for our driver.
