I received multiple conflicting emails (including ones with template (insert business here) stating 1) they'll meet us at the pier with our name on a sign or 2) we need to walk across town and meet them at Marti Sports. I received final directions via email the day before to arrive at Marti Sports, but of course I was over international waters without any internet so I didn't get the email until I arrived at the port. Kinda dumb on their part, tbh. Regardless, my native Spanish-speaking and Mexican-born friend and I left the ship and looked for my name. Nothing. So we headed to Marti Sports. Thankfully they provided a map in an earlier email, but we still had to ask around. We eventually found it and arrived outside Marti Sports at 8:15am local time We waited 45 minutes and asked every tour guide we saw for the name of our guide, "Hugo". Nobody knew who that was, and we were constantly being pestered by taxi drivers which was incredibly annoying. We tried calling the number provided in all emails, but the number was disconnected and no longer in service. We even asked another helpful local tour guide to call the number, just in case it was a roaming issue. Nope, same message. He was really surprised and couldn't believe this company gave us a bad phone number seeing how clearly written out in bold it was in all emails and instructions. At 0900 my friend and I gave up and went with another local jeep driver who was a little more expensive but great. I emailed this company and requested a refund. They wrote back saying the driver was there waiting for us and we never showed, a complete lie seeing we literally asked everyone we saw for "Hugo". Don't book with this company, they'll stress you out and your driver will never show. No matter how prepared you are or how much research you do, sometimes you just get scammed in Mexico.
Yousef was a genuinely nice and friendly guy. Unfortunately, the tour itself was disappointing as we barely followed the original itinerary. The lunch provided was quite small and just okay. We were also expecting a driver, but instead ended up driving the jeep ourselves, which wasn’t a huge issue but still unexpected. We stopped at a tequila tasting spot where we tried several options, but it felt like we were being pressured to buy a bottle. Overall, the experience was just okay, but it didn’t live up to our expectations.
Tour operator did not show up at pick up location, and phone number to call the operation was not in service. For cruise passenger, I highly recommend sticking with booking tours though the cruise directly or book on the spot with vendor. We got off MSC cruise in Cozumel and instructions on our Jeep tour ticket said to meet at Hooters. New fast, there is no Hooters, the restaurant was shut down and now called Now & Then (locals helped us navigate to figure it out.) We went to the old Hooters location and called the tour operator; no response. Upon return, I called Viator, who I booked this tour with…Viator subcontracted this tour out and the short of it said that are not able to issue a refund because the tour operator did not approve. SUCKS and RIPOFF. We traveled April 2026.
Highly recommend. Our guide was Fernando, highly recommend asking for him. He was super friendly and knowledgeable. People like him are the reason we'll make Cozumel a yearly trip for our family.
Booked this tour with Nexus at our hotel and did not get the tour described. First they charged us $95pp not 74 as advertised. Second they substituted sites visited. First stop a private facility where we were bombarded by a short private Mayan dancers, photo taking, tequila, chocolate and honey tasting, with tip jars everywhere and trying to sell us overpriced stuff at every activity. We did not go to San Gervasio. Next stops were 2 beach sites on the east coast with vendors everywhere , especially overpriced bars. Finally went to Punta Sur eco park where we got free snorkelling and lunch, but again overpriced drinks and sales pitch buying our snorkelling video. We then visited the lighthouse and museum, best part of the day but time limited. We never made it to Chankannub. Our driver was pleasant but not a tour guide and did not offer any tour info and could not answer many of our questions. Shame on Nexus tours for this bait and switch tour.
We had a lovely visit to Cozumel thanks to our guide Emily. We saw Mayan ruins, taste tasted some yummy chocolate and tequila, stopped at several picturesque spots...enjoyed some delicious tacos and got in some snorkeling. We got a lot in and it was definitely worth it. They're gonna try and sell ya stuff (which we DID buy because we wanted to) but that's tourism and we knew what we were getting into. Overall, a terrific experience. Thank Emily!
We had a fantastic time! Emily was our guide and she had the whole day planned out. We did tequila tasting, drove through the unbeaten path, explored a natural sinkhole with caves. Lunch was amazing! We learned the history of Cozumel…it was such a fun day!
This was one of the best tour experiences we’ve ever had. We felt like VIPs with this private tour and it was sooo worth it! No waiting for other people, or crowded tour, and a personalized experience based on our interests. Our guide, Alejandra was absolutely amazing and gave us the very best Cozumel experience. Our snorkel master and waiters at the beach cub were also phenomenal. We may only book private excursions moving forward if they are anything like this experience. Thank you for making our trip so amazing Alejandra! 🥰
I booked a jeep excursion for two. My guide was wonderful! We were suppose to see ruins, snorkeling, eco park, and the east coast of Cozumel. We only saw the east coast and a Tequila tasting (which we were not suppose to do). We didn’t do ANYTHING else that I signed up for. Our guide did her best, however. Granted, it did rain which was unusual, but we still could have seen the ruins, the east coast, and possibly snorkel. Our poor guide was given a jeep with the check engine light on the whole time. The windshield wipers only worked for a few seconds, so she had to keep turning on the wipers after 5 seconds, repeatedly. Viator and the tour operator should be ashamed to call this an excursion. They took our money, no problem, but failed to provide the promised water bottles and snorkeling gear. Don’t book this excursion, it was nothing like it was billed, again, our poor driver did her best! We even had a /Mexican policeman at a checkpoint, threaten to confiscate the jeep, because our driver didn’t have the appropriate drivers license. She had to call the tour operator and he talked to the policeman, before the policeman let us go. Viator should do a better job vetting their tour operators. Just because you book through Viator, do not think you are going to get a reputable or safe tour.
This experience, if booked through Viator, will require you to leave the port and walk to a plaza just outside the port. There weren't any signs or markings for the company at the port or outside the port to help me find where they were. The company was responsive and helpful via email and phone though when I reached out to find them. There was no tour itinerary given to us so we didn't really know where on the island we were going to go. This would've been good to know for our planning and expectations. However I didn't call and talk to the company ahead of time to ask these questions either. I would suggest calling and talking with the company if you have specific things you want to see, espetthe Mayan sites. There is a place on the island of Cozumel but we weren't able to go and see it because it is a business and it closed early (didn't make it because of my poor planning). Overall we saw a good portion of the island, got some snorkeling in, had a good lunch and made it back to the ship. Julio was a great guide with good knowledge of the area. If there is anything specific you want to do, just ask the guides and they will accommodate you if they can. We stopped at a small ranch where they had us try homemade chips, salsa and guacamole and did a tequila tasting. The tequila is for sale and the guy folks at the ranch want tips for info and tastings. The beaches on the east side (ocean side) were great. We didn't go into Downtown Cozumel so make sure to ask the guide if you want to go there. Overall, the tour was good.
Julio was very kind, funny, and informative. He let us know exactly what was happening and where we were going and we had such a fun time exploring Cozumel.
Fun day trip excursion with Jose (Tio!) We enjoyed the Mayan experience, snorkeling and fajitas! Jose provided outstanding customer service, was very knowledgeable, took a bunch of photos for us and gave us an amazing snorkeling experience!
It was super personalized and we learned so much about the history of the island. The mayan cultural experience was fantastic!
Gerry, our tour guide was absolutely amazing! We were a little iffy at first due to nobody replying back to my message on here as quickly as another tour did. Then when we got our directions we were told near the 7 eleven and it was a 2 minute walk(not). Since we were not given an address it was a little difficult getting out of the port and onto the street to find it. Once someone finally came and confirmed we were at the correct location we were fine.
Decent options on what you want to do, not where they want you to go. Julio allowed us to pick which stops to make and how long to stay
We’ve been to Cozumel 3 times and this was by far the best excursion we have been on our driver went above and beyond to take us to some of the most spectacular areas of the island that we have never seen before. He made it very personal and allowed us to plan out our day we would highly recommend this excursion to anyone!
Nobody was ready for us at the location the directions stated. We had to have a tour guide from another company call. Then they stated they would be right there but we waited 45 minutes! When they showed up we had to walk 10 minutes to where he parked. Plus they expected 4 of us plus guide to ride in one jeep. We convinced them we needed another jeep, as the description states, so another 20 min delay. Finally got on our tour. If you remove all that we had a good time however I would not recommend based on all the delays and hassles! Never have had this happen with Viator.
I’ll give negatives first and you can make your own minds up 1- the jeep in photo used to promote the trip is NOT what we got. Ours had certainly been round the block a million times with some very worrying ‘undercarriage’ noises implying the back wheel was about to come off. 2-So noisy that any conversation was near impossible. Also, Extremely difficult for my husband and I to get into. Yes, we are 60+yrs and not as mobile as most but we have traveled in jeeps before and they have a step to assist getting in. This one didn’t and to get in was at my hip height. My husband is also 6’5 ex rugby player and almost couldn’t squeeze himself into seat but managed with huge effort. So if you are at all less mobile or bigger than average don’t book. 3- have an idea what you’d like to do. We asked to see the ‘real Cozumel’ not touristy things but according to our guide the whole of Cozumel is set up for tourism so hard to find what we’d hoped for. She suggested a trip to a ‘village’ that explained the chocolate making process and then a tequila experience which we thought would be fun. But it turns out this is a ‘ show’ of Mayan Warriors describing their existence and how the cocoa bean was used as trade and how they made chocolate from it. It was interesting enough but at an extra $50 plus gift shop ‘guilt purchase’ it was an expense we hadn’t budgeted for. As a result of this staged touristy experience we cancelled the tequila trip! Now the positives 1- our guide Bebe was adorable helpful, kind and knowledgeable 2- the tribal trip was actually interesting so if you like history and ‘re-enactment” then this is up your street 3- lunch was decent and filling. (drinks cost extra) no beach as it’s a rocky coast so sat at chairs where we had lunch 4- LOADS of fish of all colours and size! We took food for them and were swarmed. Truly wonderful and totally made our day. All in, we did enjoy our day and many would give it 5 stars but for us I think a 4 is fair.
We were unable to locate the driver after several phone calls to customer service while at the cruise port. Requested a refund when I return from the cruise and was denied.
Meeting location was incorrect - we eventually found them while giving up on finding them. Map showed them at a different location. We reserved 2 jeeps, but they put us in the same jeep. We asked to take the top off the jeep and were told NO. Our windshield was cracked, the A/C barely worked and the interior was dirty. There was no way for us to communicate with the driver - we wanted to stop on the "wild side" of the island but the driver kept driving. The tequila tasting was nice, but the price was $$$. Lunch and snorkeling were only ok. We skipped the snorkeling and had him take us back to the boat. The tour did stop at a store, but we didn't see anything interesting. I would advise you to NOT book with this company unless you want to just follow the lead car around and learn nothing about the city.
Wasn’t able to drive jeep, it was driven by tour guide. Last time we did similar tour we followed the guide in a jeep we got to drive. Missed out on seeing Mayan ruins, did not know we had to chose between chocolate tour or ruins. Also did not see lighthouse on tour. Felt we had less of a tour this time, your guide was friendly though
Charlie was our driver and we had the best time.....I sure would enjoy some more of the shrimp cocktail that we stopped for.....it was delicious! This is a great way to see the island!
We rode with our guide Bibi and she was wonderful. Prior to leaving Bibi asked us questions about what we were interested in and what we wanted to see and do. And along the way she gave us every opportunity to stop to shop or take photos or look at things or whatever we wanted or needed to do or see. When we registered for this activity none of us were sure what to expect, but we were pleasantly surprised at what we got - an air conditioned tour of the beautiful island of Cozumel with some great information provided by Bibi about local customs and culture it was a relaxing day. Luis was an excellent snorkeling teacher. He was patient and kind with us and I would not hesitate to go snorkeling with him again. Thank you Luis! Thank you Bibi!
We took the tour with Bibi as our guide. She is wonderful! She is very knowledgeable about the Mayan culture and history of Cozumel. She is kind and personable and fun! She guided us to vendors that were honest and did not haggle and asked us all throughout the day about our preferences and wishes to make our day what we wanted. She goes above and beyond to make sure her customers are happy. We also enjoyed Luis who taught the girls in our group to snorkel. I would recommend him as a teacher for anyone! He is great! Overall it was a very pleasant day and we left feeling like we made new friends in Cozumel.
Charlie was a great tour guide. It was also nice having just our group. The jeep was comfortable and they were very accommodating.
We were a small group of 4 people so our tour guide drove our jeep.. We enjoyed the Mayan ruins (cost $15 an adult). The lunch and snorkeling was very good. Our driver was very knowledgeable about Cozumel. Our guide stopped at a tequila stand. We don’t drink alcohol so this was a waste of our time since it was out of the way. We were not asked if we wanted to stop and we would have preferred more time snorkeling.
Our tour guide Jerry was amazing. He knew a ton about the Mayan history and culture. He made sure we had a great experience. Took us to an amazing restaurant that had fantastic food.
Waste of time and money. The driver was nice and did his job but that was the extent of this trip being good. We said at the very beginning that we did not want to go to the tequila place. Yet we have drive down the very bumpy dirt roads and past a locked gate that he had a key to find ourselves at the tequila place where they are wearing the same shirt as our driver! Next stop we were taken to a restaurant, at lunch time, where we sat down and started to order, then someone in our group asked what was included with our tour. Just to find out that nothing there was included. We can’t imagine why we stopped. We drive another 20 minutes or so we reach a very beautiful resort that served us a taco/fajita lunch on the beach. This was the best part of the tour. They had snorkeling gear to use but we didn’t have much time left in our tour after late lunch to snorkel. We never went to Ecological park and lighthouse!!!
Our jeep driver and guide, Carlos was wonderful. The weather was beautiful, but not warm enough to swim so Carlos took us around the entire island. We enjoyed our chats, our views and the many locations that we stopped to ask questions. The lunch of tacos was wonderful. The only complaint our group had about the entire experience was the not really knowing where to meet the guide once we were off of the boat. We kind of wandered around and asked other vendors and they suggested we go to the lighthouse to meet up with our guide. We luckily ran into Carlos at the lighthouse and went on with our tour. The address on the Viator website for meet up was across the island somewhere. Please change
The driver was a good guy and the vehicle was also good. We waited about an hour at the port until we were finally picked up. They went to the wrong port to get us! We lost 1hrs of our excursion! The lunch too was 3/5. The company gave us 2 Margerritas to compensate for the pick up mishap.
We had to cancel the trip seeing the rudeness of tour operator. Will never recommend to anyone. I am still waiting for the refund.
We had an excellent day out with our tour guide Charlie who was very knowledgeable and informative about the island and local traditions. He was very accommodating and friendly throughout our trip. Was great to see lots of the island and lots of local areas. Tips for booking, Viator offer the option to change your visit date at no charge. We did this on arrival due to the weather forecast, but it seems this was not communicated properly with the local tour operator, which left us waiting longer than expected upon arrival. The tour operator were quick to correct this though. Would also recommend choosing a day other than Sunday as some businesses and parts of the tour were closed, again not communicated well by Viator. Overall great experience, would recommend to see the island.
I travelled on a Virgin Voyage cruise and ported at Punta Langosta cruise terminal. A 2 minute walk and Julio Cesar was waiting for us and greeted us immediately. He was very friendly and knowledgeable. We felt welcomed and he made sure we did all the activities we wanted. We went to amazing beaches, saw crocodiles, snorkelling, tequila tasting, and had delicious tacos for lunch (included). The jeeps were comfortable and had A/C. Overall it was a great tour that did not feel rushed and we still had time after the tour to explore the island before we returned to our ship. Thank you so much Julio!
Seriously the biggest waste of my time ever. I would have paid to leave from the torture of the excursion. Mayan info was worse than a time share talk. I’m 57 and never had so much time taken from my life as this jeep your.
Carlos was amazing and great to work with. We had a little mix up about the meeting point so he ended up coming directly to us which made things easy. He has great knowledge about the Island and the Culture as we wanted our kids to actually learn something while on vacation and not just do Waterparks. He tailored this experience to what we wanted from the Caves, to Mayan Ruins, to our Snorkeling adventure. We must have seen 300 fish around us at one time. Simply amazing for my kids to have this experience. I highly recommend this trip for your family and do t forget to ask for Carlos.
We had a great time with Moses as our guide. He listened to our preferences and took us where we wanted to go. He even went out of his way to accommodate our need for an ATM. The snorkeling was fantastic and the lunch was good.
We really enjoyed our day in Cozumel with Julio. He was extremely knowledgeable about the island and history. We did a loop of the island and liked our stop at Playa Chen Rio the most. We wished we had spent more time there! Overall, it was a great visit.
Our tour guide, Carolina, was amazing and very knowledgeable about the island. She accommodated our wants and was very patient with our 3 year old. Highly recommend this tour and Carolina as the tour guide!
This is a "customized" tour meaning that you have to do your own research on exactly what you want to see and NOT see and check out admission prices to each activity before going on the tour because nothing except lunch is included. Not worth it if already renting your own car. Really wanted to snorkel from shore but port was closed so they didn't allow snorkeling-primary reason we signed up as we didn't want to lug our own snorkel equipment or pay extra somewhere else since this was included in this tour. Snorkeling is at the end of the day where the included lunch is (at a property managed by the tour company from what it seems-everyone was wearing the guide's shirt). Snorkel was canceled but we saw people snorkeling at the site we ate lunch. Other than driving around the east side of the island & walking on beaches (free), felt it was a waste of time and money if already have access to a rental car. If on a cruise or at an all-inclusive & want to see the island for the day, it would be fine enough and honestly far better than a taxi imo because you can take your time at the east side beaches, get in the water, walk around the tidal pools, etc. San Gerviso ruin is $20pp extra; Punta Sur where the lighthouse is located is $20pp extra; IMO those are probably the only 2 extra things worth seeing. Without doing your own research on each possible tourist dump on the island & just relying on the guide, ended up at total tourist traps that charge $20pp to hear about tequila by someone who wanted a tip & for you to buy their brand of tequila, eat tiny tortillas made by someone who wanted a tip, hear about chocolate by someone who wanted a tip, see a mayan dance by people who wanted a tip. My kids joked about tipo tipo tipo tipo. If you do your own research and know exactly where you want to go & decline the tourist traps, it would be fine for a 1-day island tour. Where eating lunch, food was fine but drinks not included -they get their money for lunch by charging triple price for drinks. The guide was fine, Jeep was ok but couldn't really take tops off to enjoy the "jeep" experience so it was more like a car, which we already had. I was left underwhelmed and feeling like i was sleezed out of a ton of money in tipos tipos tipos tipos. Because lunch is at the end, we were starving - definitely eat breakfast before going. It was clunky stopping somewhere for breakfast with the guide with us. Unless it involves an actual genuine mayan ruin, avoid the mayan cultural (tipo generating) experiences at all costs! Unless you just enjoy throwing out tipos like Oprah.
We had a terrible experience. The tour operator did not do the activites such as snorkling, Mayan sites, beach that they promised. On top of that they charged extra money for nothing. Lunch was a joke. Our whole cruise was spoiled because of the experience we had with this tour operator.
We had horrible experience. Please never ever take this tour operated by Cozumel tour excursions. We had a family reunion with a group of 30 people (adult and kids). They listed multiple locations and activities under the tour descriptions but did not take us to any of these places. The guide misinformed us and took us to a private property ( owned by tour operator) instead of official government owned Mayan ruins. Additionally they charged a fee per person which they claimed would go to government but later themselves accepted that it's privately owned property and negotiated the price. The guide deliberately took long time at this place and later said we don't have any time left. They cancelled the snorkeling stating that wheather is rough where as we heard from multiple people from the same cruise that they did lot of snorkeling with other operators. The guide did not take us to any beach where we all could have some fun in sea water. He took us to the beach where it was all hard sharp rocks where we could do nothing . Imagine none of us could swim or get into water while in Cozumel Lunch was HORRIBLE . We all were hungry including kids This is a complete scam
Kevin was a fantastic guide and made our trip memorable and fun! He treats you as a friend visiting and everybody knows him on the island!
Charlie was a fabulous guide. Loved learning about the Miya culture, including the sacrifice of children to the gods. Loved the tequila tasting and visiting the cave after the tequila tour. The cave is a sacred Miya spot complete with a makeshift temple and bats. The lunch was light but good and the snorkeling was fun. Only complaint is a need of some kind of entrance platform or handrail when entering the water. Charlie helped me out! Lots of stones and pebbles and holes makes it difficult to get out into the water. Once you are there, the snorkeling was fine. Learned a lot about the island from our fabulous guide Charlie. He promised to email me a recipe for that coconut tequila we bought on our trip.
Cozumel tour - Our tour guide was Carlos. The port I originally put in was not the same one that the cruise ended up in so I was up all night trying to fix it. We arrived at Punta Langoosta and was told to meet at Hooters. We walked across and down the escalator to an orange building that looks like hooters. It was not open but people were outside waiting. After waiting about 15-20 mins Carlos our tour guide finally arrived. He had two jeep trucks for our party of 6. He was really great touring us. He first took us to a place that had a small temple that resembled the Mayan Ruins and got a nice photo with some Aztec people as well. He was very good at explaining the history to our group. Then he took us to see an alligator and iguanas at Cozumel Surfing Chen Pipe. There also had a nice ocean. Then off to tequila tasting, a small cenote and then ended up in Palmar Snorkel Beach Club. We had yummy tacos (fish and chicken where the choices) also ordered their ceviche which cost extra but so worth it. We didn’t have time to snorkel by the end of the trip but our group was ok coz we were enjoying the views of the beach. Overall we enjoyed this tour.
Our cruise ship docked at a different dock from what was originally scheduled and didn’t bother to tell us. It messed up our directions to find the meeting point. Danny from the tour called me and talked us through where to meet. The cruise ship was very congested and took longer to get off than we thought so give yourself extra time. Charlie our guide was wonderful and very informative. The lunch at the beach was tacos or fajitas with rice and beans. The beef was tough and dry but the chicken was tasty and tender. There were 4 adults and 3 children including a 14 month old baby and we all enjoyed the tour.
Miguel was very accommodating! We asked for local history, chocolate tasting, flora and fauna and he delivered! My mom uses a cane and he was very helpful getting her in and out of the jeep.
My advice to you is to avoid this “tour”. First, It was a challenge to find our guide. We arrived at the designated location on time, but were drawn to another gentleman who was discussing his tour with another group. Our guide was busy on his phone and may not have even realized we were two feet away. Only after a few minutes did one of the tourists kin the other group point out that the preoccupied man was our guide. Second, it was not a “self-operated Jeep tour”. We did not follow our guide “from a separate vehicle” as advertised. Our guide drove us around in a POS (you know what I mean) Jeep with numerous dashboard warning lights on. The inside of the Jeep looked older than I am. At one point we asked for water to drink since it was included, and only received a mumbled response from our driver. Guess we don’t get water. We told the driver we were interested in caves and snorkeling. We had no interest in doing a Tequila tasting. We went to Punta Sur Eco Beach Park first. There, we were dropped off and left to our own devices. The ocean was beautiful but the beach was full of garbage. We were immediately accosted by vendors. Not knowing what else to do, we sat and had a drink. After a few moments, we decided to leave. When we went to the Jeep we noticed people looking into the mangroves. There was a huge, wild crocodile named Pancho. He was cool to see, but it would have been even cooler if our driver pointed him out to us. Our driver then wanted to take us to a Tequila tasting. We declined once again. Next stop was El Mirador. It is a beach full of broken coral and garbage. Again, not knowing what else to do, we had a drink and fought off the vendors. The third stop was at Noa Beach. Here, we had our free lunch. When we ordered, we were told all of the food was freshly made and it may take a while for us to receive it. Excited at the thought of fresh food we ordered two drinks and two waters and looked out over the beautiful oceazn. Our food came in about three minutes. There is no possible way it was freshly made. We ate what we could and then paid for drinks which amounted to about $40! Al through this was the included snorkeling spot, we didn’t bother. Since we realized we weren’t going to the caves, we decided we had enough. We asked our driver to take us to a shopping center in town. Here is where our driver went above and beyond. He was incredibly accommodating and took very good care of us from that point forward. W brought what we needed and greatly appreciated his help. Overall, I would advise you skip Cozumel. If you find yourself there, just rent your own Jeep and do your own tour.
We had a great time touring the island. Our guide Bebe was very friendly and knowledgeable of the island and best places to visit. Wonderful time spending the day while in port.
Carlos was our guide. He was awesome. He took us to great places & explained everything to us. The views from the top of the lighthouse was stunning. Our lunch stop was very good. The only thing missing was a cooler of water, which the website said they would supply. Going 5 hours on a tour a cooler of bottle water would have been nice
