The guide was pleasant, but the overall experience felt primarily focused on selling us things. The cenote was not what I expected; it was located just off the road and did not require an admission fee. The itinerary stated that food would be included, but no food was provided. Everywhere we went—even at the bathroom—someone was asking for a tip.

First we will visit the monuments of the two cultures, the place where the first mass was held in the entire American continent more than 500 years ago, in this place the Spaniards arrived for the first time in American lands, a site of great importance for the beginning of the conquest of Mexico. Just a few steps away we can visit the monument to Gonzalo Guerrero, the father of the first mestizos in Mexico, a character who had an important participation in the conquest of the Mayan lands of Yucatan.
Visit the largest archaeological zone on the Island and discover its beauty with a local guide from the site, in addition to taking a Tequila Tour where you will taste different flavors and learn the process to make 100% organic Tequila.
Then you will visit the East side of the Island where you can admire the best landscapes of the Caribbean Sea, you can ask your guide to make all the stops in the most beautiful places of the tour to capture the best memories, until you reach the El Mirador restaurant located on the seashore where we include some delicious Mexican Fajitas,
Later we can make our last stop in a completely natural cenote. You cannot miss this unique experience in Cozumel.

This was a highly personalized and unique experience. Our local tour guide Javier went far and above to create a thoroughly culturally and immersive experience. In addition to Viator's general description of activities, our tour guide arranged for a personal tour of a local coral jewelry maker and took us to a local who made corn tortillas and chocolate from locally sourced ingredients. I would highly recommend this tour!
Had a wonderful time with our guide Santiago. It was great getting to explore different parts of the island we otherwise wouldn’t have seen, learning some history, and experiencing local spots for some special souvenirs. We even got some local cochinita that is only available on Sundays, yum! Highly recommend for a special tour.
We had Luis as our tour guide and he made our stop in Cozumel a great one! He was very informative, funny & kind. We hope to see him again next time. The trip was very eventful and worth every penny! Cozumel and its people are so beautiful and we can’t wait to be back!
It was so nice that it was a private experience, just us and our guide in a nice ac'd jeep. Our guide, Javier, was very funny, knowledgeable, and a genuinely nice guy. Things to note about the tour: you'll be brought to a store to get souvenirs at so you don't have to feel rushed to shop in port, the tequila tasting is actually a tequilla museum and is an educational experience, then they try to sell you their tequila (Casa Jalisco) which is very smooth. The ruins are better if you pay for a guide ($46ish plus a tip). The cenote is an open one, and only had one other group of 4 there. Water is clear. Its really close to where you park. Bring towels. Its cool but not freezing. Went to a rocky beach that you enter the water through dock steps only and it dips down deep about 15ft out. Get the snorkel gear so you can see the beautiful fish and coral reef underneath because thats what this beach is best for. Tons of fish swimming around you. Bring cash for all of your tips for guide of course but also the ruins, tequila place, and if you eat or drink at beach. Oh yes, and when you meet, be prepared to walk to the 711 outside of the port. Definitely worth the money for this private experience. Ask for Javier!
Our tour guide was most informative and knowledgeable. He was of Mayan decent and made the tour most interesting
The guide was very nice. He took us to this side business and told us we were going for a "tequila tasting". It was awful! Birds were in very small cages, then locals try to sell you multiple very overpriced products. We did buy some Tequila because it was so high pressured we felt light we had to purchase something. It was extremely overpriced tequila. When we got home and researched what the gentleman told us, it is all a scam. At the agricultural site, we informed our driver we would not like to purchase a guide for 36 US dollars. When my husband went to the restroom, he brought the guide over to try to sell me his services even though my husband already said no. When the driver saw I was displeased, he informed me "Don't be offended, it is their lifestyle". This trip was very uncomfortable to me and I felt like it was a scam just to sell us overpriced items. I do not recommend this tour at all!
Best part of our cruise! Faisal was our tour guide and he was absolutely incredible. He picked us up at the port in his air conditioned vehicle with water, Gatorade, sunscreen and bug spray. We communicated that we were not interested in a touristy/instagrammy tour- we wanted authentic wildlife, nature and culture. He listened and delivered! While we enjoyed the Mayan Ruins, we enjoyed exploring off their paths more to find wild animals (which we found plenty of, including a tarantula!). The highlight of the trip was absolutely the delicious lunch on the beach while snorkeling in the crystal clear blue waters. Our second favorite stop was exploring and swimming in the cenote. Thank you for listening to us Faisal! My son described this day as ‘the best day of his life’ several times. Also, I only booked this tour last minute because our cruise line canceled our planned excursion.
Yoessef took us for so many fun things around the island ! We had cevice and tried tequila and tacos. We went to the cenote and a beach. It’s the best tour in town !
Javier Chan was an excellent and very knowledgeable guide. He was friendly and very helpful in answering our many questions. Would definitely recommend this tour and our guide, Javier!
Our driver was prompt, had a cooler of beverages, extremely knowledgeable, and was super infant friendly 10/10!
This was a very nice tour. The ride was scenic, the trip to the Mayan ruins was interesting and informative and we had fun at the tequila tasting. Our guide was very pleasant and knowledgeable and made sure our experience was a great one.
This was the best trip of our holiday. Our guide Javier Bacab was simply the best. He was a great character, full of enthusiasm and humour. The whole island seemed to know and love him!! We packed such a lot into the trip; it really had everything. From fascinating Myan ruins to tequila tasting, cenote swimming and snorkeling off a lovely beach club. This experience was such a great way to finish our holiday. We would thoroughly recommend this trip. Thank you Javier.
Loved our tour with Javier! He was fun, knowledgeable and flexible! Great sampler of the island. Highly recommend! Thank you Javier!
6 Stars, really above and beyond! What an amazing day in Cozumel. Tour guide greeted us with "Welcome Family" and that is exactly how he treated us. Felt like we were getting a wonderful tour from our favorite uncle. Informative, kind, flexible, patient (traveling with my 88yo mom), and really listened. Went above and beyond to share not only Cozumel facts, but his life and learn about ours. Tour was a great mix of activities.
Santiago was a truly incredible tour guide! As a native to cozumel he is so knowledgeable about the island and history. He filled our entire day with a stream of interesting facts about the island and pointed out landmarks and nature sightings throughout our drive. Our favorite parts of the day were when he stopped by some of his favorite local places and introduced us to areas of the island that we would have never gone by ourselves. Our only regret for the day was that we booked this tour for the last day of our trip. If I could do it again I would book this for early in our trip so we could take advantage of Santiago's many recommendations for other fun things to do on cozumel! We will definitely book another tour with him when we return to cozumel!
Fabulous ! Ruins were very interesting and Santiago knows the history of the island and was very personable !!
Terrific introduction to Cozumel. Definitely left us wanting to return. Good local and unknown stops. Luis was an excellent guide.
Great way to explore the island, try amazing food and drinks, visit different beaches and see the wildlife.
Santiago our guide was super. He readily accommodated what our interests. He was informative about Mayan local history as well as the sites and origins of Cozumel. A careful driver as we toured both coasts He made the excursion very pleasurable
Our tour guide was Greg. He is very knowledgeable about the history of Cozumel and really North America. This made the excursion so much better than just seeing things. He taught us many things and made us appreciate the land and culture so much more. The tequila and chocolate “breakfast” was a great start and our lunch on the beach was the perfect ending. Highly recommend. Also, a shout out to Viator and the tour company for helping us out first thing in the morning. Communication was excellent.
We were very excited for this experience but it ended up falling a little flat with our group. We had a party of 12 (6 adults 6 kids) and while it was VERY convenient to have the flexibility of a private tour, that is kind of where it ended. Our tour guide was very sweet and helpful, but it was mostly just a means of transportation. The long car rides from place to place were VERY silent ... she did not provide any background or history into where we were going or doing. There were 45 minute long stretches of silence in the car where it would have been GREAT to have some interaction (especially for the kids). We picked this tour based on the amazing reviews but as with a lot of things, it seems that the experience is very dependent on the guide. The guides I see typically mentioned over and over in the reviews was not one of our guides. In addition, the day got off to a very rough and frustrating start as our party of 12 was at the confirmed meeting point by 845am for our 9am start. This particular meeting point was confirmed MULTIPLE times with the tour through Viator. By 915 they were not there, and Viator was unable to reach them. We were about to cancel and FINALLY they found us, and they had been waiting at a totally different meeting point. When I told them that we had agreed on this one, they weren't really all that apologetic and just said they typically use the other meeting point too. That would have been great to know ... and I showed them the multiple messages indicating where the tour wanted us to meet. We had high expectations based on the reviews, but we will likely not do this again if ever in Cozumel.
Overall, it was ok. Our tour guide was knowledgeable. I only booked it to see the Mayan ruins because there weren’t many options for that alone. Found out I could have gotten a taxi to the location and simply paid an entry fee. We went to a few other locations that were nice as well. We had a homemade mojito. It was delicious. $20usd for two is what I was quoted. The tour guide ordered them. When I went to pay, there were travelers in front of me who ordered the same drink and paid $6 USD for it. I realized the that the guide had included his in our fee when he quoted the cost. When I thought I bought two, I bought three.
Terrific tour. Can’t say enough about Ricardo our guide. He was knowledgable, kind and showed us every piece of Cozumel. Very special day!!
Santiago is a great guide - he’s knowledgeable, personable, and takes the time to turn the tour into a true experience. Would highly recommend this activity and “tour” guide.
We booked the Private Half-Day Cultural Tour to the Mayan Ruins and Cenote in Cozumel, and it was truly one of the highlights of our trip. Our guide, Greg, was phenomenal — incredibly knowledgeable, warm, funny, and genuinely passionate about sharing the history and culture of the area. He explained the Mayan ruins in such an engaging and meaningful way, weaving in stories, traditions, and fascinating details we never would have learned on our own. It felt personal, authentic, and not rushed at all. The cenote portion of the tour was absolutely magical — peaceful, refreshing, and breathtakingly beautiful. Greg made sure we felt safe and comfortable the entire time, and he went above and beyond to make the experience special. From start to finish, the day was seamless, well-organized, and unforgettable. If you’re visiting Cozumel and want a deeper, more personal cultural experience — book this tour and ask for Greg! Highly, highly recommend.
The best friendly and knowledgeable guide in town. We will recommend him 100%. He took us to all kind of places, great places he is a people’s person… thanks Santiago
This experience was amazing, the itinerary was great but Santiago made the tour extremely special and a day to never forget. He took us around the entire island and stopped wherever we asked and where he recommended. He knew everything and more about the island, the history, and the culture. We got to see parts of the island and meet people we never would have if it weren’t for this kind guide. We traveled for my mom’s 60th birthday as a group of four and it was definitely a highlight of our trip. I highly recommend this tour- but l even more recommend requesting Santiago!
Gabriel was amazing. He took time to listen and ask questions to understand our goals for the day. He is a very kind person that offered amazing suggestions. Allowed for us to have a perfect day in Cozumel.
Our tour guide, Ricardo, was very personable and friendly. The tour took us to replica Myan statues (church was closed), a shop downtown for souviners, a tequila tasting and chocolate tasting spot (extra cost) area, the San Gervasio Myan ruins where you can pay to have a tour guide walk you around or walk it yourself for an hour, a location on the eastern shore where you can take some cool photos/see a crocodile/buy a mojito, then drive to the western side of the island and have tacos or fajitas. There was a lot of options to spend extra money and tip various vendors, but the island runs on tourism, so it makes sense. We enjoyed our day and got to see a good chunk of the island without having to drive. We learned about the Mayans, how to drink tequila, and how cocoa beans can be ground into chocolate. I recommend the experience for anyone looking to explore around. Waters were provided and then the meal was provided. Other food and drinks during your meal are extra. The pickup and dropoff at the hotel was one major reason we initially booked this. Tip: don't forget bug spray for when you are at San Gervasio!
Javier was a fabulous tour guide. He let us practice our Spanish and took photos of us everywhere. We learned a lot.
Ricardo helped tailor the your tour to me, skipped tequila tasting (makes my stomach turn), skipped some of the shopping, concentrated on San Gervasio and beautiful unspoiled beaches on the east side of the island. I highly recommend!
Feisty was wonderful and catered to our group. Fiesty was amazing and we enjoyed learning the culture of Mexico
Do yourself a favor and request Ricardo! This was a perfect tour and a perfect day…Cozumel is a very special place and Ricardo is knowledgeable, kind, generous, flexible and so much fun. We learned a lot, enjoyed top shelf tequila, delicious homemade food, a purifying cenotes experience, and more. We fell in love with the island. So glad we made this choice..
Our guide Richard was amazing. We had taken a Jeep trip of the island a few days beforewhichad many of the same stops so he did a great job accommodating us to see other places 😀❤️🙏
Excellent trip with many fun and unforgettable moments. We had the pleasure of having Jacobo as our guide. He was so nice, so friendly and he showed us so much of Cozumel. We got to see the Mayan ruins at San Gervasio, which were very impressive. Then we went on to a delicious chocolate tasting, and after that, an even more delicious tequila tasting. Finally, we got to see some crocodiles near the beach and then had a delicious lunch at a restaurant right on the beach. It was an unforgettable day, and Jacobo was an excellent guide all the way. Do yourself a favor and book this tour. It was truly unforgettable and a highlight of our cruise.
We started our tour by stopping by at the replicas of the Mayan ruins that was in the main avenue of the island. We head out to the shop where we got souvenirs then we went to the jewelry shop where they make black coral jewelries. We get to meet the owner of the shop and he showed us the process of making those corals into fine jewelry. Although he warned us that there are a lot of fake ones out there which was kinda true coz all the stops we went sells "black coral" jewelries which I find a bit disturbing.Next, we went to the chocolate tasting. Those chocolates are so good that we ended up buying our favorite flavors. However they are so pricey. For a small chocolate bar, it's priced at $10 each. Next stop was the tequila tasting place. It was a nice experience. We get to understand how tequilas are made, tasted them and ended up buying a couple of bottles. Then we went to the real Mayan ruins that nestled in the heart of the island. You have the option to do it yourself or hire a guide for $35. I suggest you do it with a guide coz they can explain better since they know the history of those ruins. Part of the tour was fajitas lunch at Chulas beach club. This is not a good place. The fajitas are not good. The place is swarmed by the cruise ship tourists who are in a party mood.Drunk and rowdy. The music is too loud. Not a good place if you want to enjoy a peaceful lunch. We find their food to be overpriced and not delicious at all. I was hoping our guide brought us somewhere else. The last part of the tour was a supposed cenote site. It was not like the sink hole featured in the pictures. It was more like a swamp with a crocodile lurking in the mangroves. Kinda frustrating. Overall, the tour was not that bad. We somehow enjoyed it except for the lunch. Not worth the money if you may ask. I can't even recommend it. There might be something better than that.
We felt like we saw the entire island and at the comfort of our own pace with our own guide. Hugo was fantastic and able to offer local knowledge and historical insight! Manny at the tequila tasting was a character and made the experience! Food was fantastic and the views were even better!
We had a great time with Hugo as our private guide. He explained all the many things we could do along the trip and had a knowledge of the island and it's history which helped add a lot to the experience. We enjoyed stops at the flea market and a beach side taco spot in addition to the cenote and San Gervasio. The jeep had cold air and cold water readily available. Thanks again for a great experience!
Very educational. Recommend a guide. Takes about an hour. Went to a bee sanctuary nearby after which was great too. Bring strong bug repellent and water.
Pick up went smoothly It helps when you are driven around by a local who knows the locals Miguel was friendly and knowledgeable We started with a drop in at a local flea market not near the port. Then off to a black coral workshop and shop. This was perfect and stunning. I don’t drink tequila well not till today it was informative and delicious We went to a traditional mayan ruins it was a 1 hour self guided tour Off to lunch at the beach a Mexican Feast To wrap the day up we went to a cent one and it was a hidden beauty used by locals and off the beaten track Refreshing way to end a perfect day
This was a great way to experience the Mayan Ruins. The tequila tasting was the best part! Israel was an excellent guide who was very knowledgeable and informative. I highly recommend this tour!
My sister and I had a great time with our tour guide, José Carlos, from Best Excursions. He stopped at so many places all around the island, gave us the history, took lots of pictures and was so proud of his Mayan ancestry. Loved the ruins and lunch. Not impressed with Cenote. Would definitely use José Carlos again.
We had a wonderful day full of variety ! From ancient Mayan ruins to fresh mojitos at a surfing beach! I was surprised by the variety of wildlife we encountered (very unthreatening). Our guide Israel was very friendly and full of knowledge and kindness.
Kati, our guide was so accommodating and flexible. She definitely catered to our interests throughout, and knew so much about everything she showed us. She knew we would be renting a car on our own the following day, so she pointed out the tips on where to park and maneuver correctly in traffic. Visiting the ruins, following the walkways, it was easy to imagine living there so long ago. She showed us what was a restaurant that was destroyed by the hurricane, fascinating. Then to a restaurant that served us a nice lunch. It was like walking around with a friend.
