Be prepared with knowing where you want to go. The driver was great and did take us to some good places to see the beach, an excellent restaurant, and the black coral jewelry store. The guy kept asking us. Do you want to do this or do you want to do that? Do you wanna do this or do you wanna do that? We had no idea what to say to her. Hoping she would have some good places to suggest. The bus driver was from Cozumel. The guide was from Mexico City.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ A Mayan cultural experience our whole family loved! If you’re looking for a fun, authentic, and educational cultural experience in the Mayan world, put Tierra Maya on your list! We went as a family with our three boys and our baby girl, and somehow managed to find an activity that kept everyone engaged, curious, and happy (parents, you know that alone deserves five stars 😂). Our boys absolutely loved the market shopping and the hands-on salsa and guacamole-making stations. And the moment that sealed the deal for me? While we were making guacamole, our 13-year-old son leaned over and whispered, ‘This is really cool, Mom.’ If you have a teenage boy, you know that’s basically the equivalent of a standing ovation. Five stars right there😂 Our baby girl was equally impressed with the jicama juice. She loved it so much that she pulled out her very best baby sign language to request MORE. Honestly, the girl knows what she likes, and apparently, jicama juice is the way to her heart! Also we all loved grinding the cacao beans to make chocolate and learning how the Mayan warriors used it before battle. What we especially appreciated about Tierra Maya was how the experience blended fun with learning. The educational component was just the right amount: interesting, engaging, and never overwhelming. We learned about traditional Mayan food practices, including nixtamalization, the process of treating corn with an alkaline solution such as lime to make its nutrients more available. It was fascinating to learn the science and cultural history behind something as everyday as corn tortillas, and it gave us a whole new appreciation for the food and traditions. We loved that this wasn’t just an activity where you stand around listening to someone talk. We got to participate, taste, make things, ask questions, and learn together as a family. The hands-on approach made the Mayan culture feel accessible and memorable for all ages. Tierra Maya absolutely knocked it out of the park. It was fun without feeling gimmicky, educational without feeling like school, and meaningful without being too serious. If you’re visiting the area and searching for a family-friendly Mayan cultural experience, authentic cultural activities, traditional food experiences, or something genuinely different to do with your kids, we highly recommend Tierra Maya. It was one of those experiences that brings a family together while teaching you something new. And if your teenager whispers that something is “really cool” without being prompted? You know you’ve found a winner.
Ricki and Jesus could not have provided us with a better day in Cozumel. They listened to what we were interested and planned the perfect day. I could not recommend them more highly.
Al was amazing! Such a friendly guy, and he shared so much interesting information about the Mayan language and culture. We had a great time visiting some of the coolest tequila tasting spots, and exploring the ruins was definitely a highlight. He was so knowledgeable about the island and made the day really enjoyable with his warm personality. We truly had a fun and memorable day hanging out with him.
Ricky was awesome! We had a great time and his knowledge of the Island and the Mayan culture was amazing. We chose the tour stops and he was happy to take us wherever we wanted. We will definitely book again.
We chose this tour because it provided a truly customizable tour of Cozumel. There were two of us with our driver, Diago. When I booked the trip I wrote some of the areas that I was interested in seeing. It was obvious that Diego read my comments before we even met. When we started the tour we discussed my ideas and he gave us a few of his recommendations and we ended up with a truly customized tour based on our interests which were seeing the east side of Cozumel, visiting Punta Sur and eating local cuisine. Diego is very knowledgeable about the area and had a lot of fun stories to share with us. On our drive to the east side of the island unbeknownst to Diego they were running a tsunami drill and the road was temporarily closed. Diego was quick to come up with an alternative idea to do a chocolate tour to fill some the time until the road reopened. We stopped and had the world's greatest mojito. We were having such a wonderful day that we extended our tour by 1 hour and stopped for dinner at one of the local restaurants for an amazing dinner. If you're looking for a truly customized tour I highly recommend the private Jeep Tour and choose Diego if you have a chance to pick your driver.
This tour was fantastic! We had a comfy, cool van just for our group of 8, with native Cozumel residents Chuy at the wheel and Angie as our guide. Arrangements were easy online; we were provided with a list of typical destinations selected by visitors. Angie met us right off the pier and helped us to design our own route/stops/experience to fit perfectly with the ship schedule. We learned so much about “real” Cozumel history, culture, and lifestyle today! Lunch on the back side of the island was fresh and delicious and the views just breathtaking. Visit Cozumel is a small family-owned local company that truly earns your business. They made us feel like we were spending the day with lovely sweet friends who are passionate and proud of their island.
Chuy @ Angie were great, Angie specifically was very knowledgeable
We were a group of 10 adults and we had a fantastic time in Cozumel. Our tour guide.Aldair and driver Chewy were fantastic! They took us to an absolutely gorgeous private beach club.
We had an absolutely fantastic day in Cozumel thanks to our driver and guide, Jesus and Aldair. From the moment they picked us up, everything was smooth, relaxed, and fun. They took us to a beautiful beach resort where we enjoyed an awesome tequila tasting and had plenty of time to swim, relax, and take it all in. What really stood out was how friendly, knowledgeable, and accommodating they were. They made us feel completely taken care of and gave us a local experience we never would have had on our own. If you’re visiting Cozumel and want a stress-free, memorable day, I highly recommend booking with them. It was easily one of the highlights of our trip! Thank you again for such an amazing experience!
Daniel and our driver Jesus were both great guides. They were on time to meet us in a comfortable van and were very informative on our drive. As locals they knew the area well and gave us recommendations for our tour. We wanted to see the San Gervasio ruins and were open to suggestions for the rest of the day. They showed us a cenote- sink hole and stopped where we could see a cave with bats. We went on the other side of the island to see some local beaches with great views. Daniel was happy to take some group pictures for us. They recommended a wonderful restaurant on the beach for lunch. Then we stopped at a place to learn how the Mayans made chocolate and made our own candy bars for dessert! As we made our way back to the ship, it started to rain. They were even willing to give us ponchos if we needed them. It was down to a drizzle by the time we arrived, but that goes to show you how kind they were. Oh, and we even got a private serenade from them! Don’t hesitate to book with them!!
Great tour. Guide Aldair and driver Hansel were very accommodating of our requests. We discussed various sites to visit and Aldair quickly put a plan together that met our needs. We visited the eastern coast of the island and stopped for a beverage overlooking the ocean. Then went to visit Paco the crocodile who was a little shy that day and then on the Terra Maya to be immersed in Mayan culture. We made chocolate from cacao beans using similar tools of the Mayans and had tasting of local honey and liquor. Even visited a hive of Melipona bees (they don't have stingers). Jessica knowledge and presentation was fantastic. Communication was flawless throughout the whole process. Would highly recommend.
Very easy to book. Our tour was awesome from pickup to dropoff!! Aldair and Jesus "Chewy" were tons of fun and very knowledgeable about Cozumel history. They helped so much in planning our day. We went in not really knowing what we wanted to do except to see the island. We ended up seeing so many fun and interesting places. Our party of 8 would definitely book this again. We were over satisfied with this tour. Nice comfortable, air conditioned van. Super friendly, fun guides! Plus you'll get a lot of Cozumel history! Excellent day!
Our tour was awesome from minute of pickup to drop off!! Very knowledgeable guides, Aldair and Jesus "Chewy". They taught us so much about Cozumel! They were super friendly and fun!! We would definitely book again!
We had the best experience ever with Aldair and Armando! We gave him some ideas for what we wanted to do for the day, and he knocked it out of the park! We got to do everything we wanted and then some. We ate at local restaurants, drank at local bars, had coffee from a local coffee shop, saw an alligator, saw some great views, had a tequila tour and tasting, and did some shopping- all in 5 hours! The van was comfortable and they provided waters and a/c. We learned a ton about Cozumel and now want to go back for a longer stay and do another tour with him! If you are on a cruise- do this excursion- it is way better than the cruise ship excursions. Shout out to Aldair for helping my elderly mother in law walk around and cross the street. He is the best!
Angie and Armando were awesome! We really had no idea what we wanted to do and they crafted an amazing day for us. Angie was so incredibly sweet and helpful. My mom has limited mobility, and they took extra special care of her which was greatly appreciated. Would absolutely recommend!
Excellent guide and driver. Accommodated all our wishes! Aldea was the guide and well pleased with him as well as the driver.
We had an amazing experience in Cozumel thanks to our guide Ozzie and our driver Arturo. They took us to Mayan ruins, a beautiful beach resort, enjoyed fresh mojitos, and even a cenote Ozzie shared so much fascinating history and interesting facts about Cozumel and the Mayan culture—it really brought the island to life. Arturo was an excellent driver and made sure we were safe and comfortable at all times. The whole day was well-organized, informative, and fun. Highly recommend this tour and especially Ozzie and Arturo!
Great visits, great driver and great guide. Easy to communicate and meeting point was as scheduled. Really amazing
We had a great experience with a private tour from Visit Cozumel. The communication was great from the time we booked it, and the private tour let us do just the things we wanted, and even adjust on the fly based on the group’s input. Angie (our guide) and our driver were excellent. They were polite, knowledgeable, flexible and on-time. They were ready slightly before our meeting time (early in the morning at 8am) and got us back to the cruise port at the agreed time, which gave us plenty of time to get back on the cruise ship and not stress. Thank you for a great private tour!
Friendly driver and guide. Had good suggestions, but also did what we wanted. I would highly recommend.
Loved this experience, so glad we booked a private tour for our 8 family members. Ricky and his driver were excellent. They asked what we were interested in doing and made a plan on how to get it done. We first went to the Mayan Ruins and were allowed to do a self tour that was great. We then went to the Bee Sanctuary and there made and tasted chocolate, a beeswax candle, tasted salsas and various honeys. We then drove out to the other side of the island to see the surf. We then stopped and tasted tequila, chocolate and more salsa. We were dropped back at the port. Would recommend this tour to anyone.
Awesome attention: on time, professional, respectful , kind. Max treated my Mom as his Son : always asking what she needed and by her side (look at one of the photos) Truly yours, Celia Payares M.D. (Linkedin, Instagram)
We have booked this two years in a row and both times have had excellent guides and drivers. This year we had Ricky as our guide and Pedro as our driver. With 7 ships in port we wanted to find a beach without the pressure of the crowds and were very happy! We then wanted some local snacks and to see some of the wild side of the island. I loved that after being to Cozumel many times. Ricky and Pedro showed us spots I had never been. We were able to both relax and maximize our day and would highly recommend booking this private van tour. Next time we are back in Cozumel we will surely book again!
We had a great day! Ricki and Orlando made the day very enjoyable - they were awesome! Ricki was very knowledgeable about the island and speaks great English! Highly recommend - 10 out of 10!
Great experience and fantastic service. Our guide, Aldair, was punctual waiting for us at the meeting point. He was very lively, entertaining and made sure everyone had a good time. We went to a Mayan village, followed by free tequila tasting and lunch at a beach. We were 11 people in our group and the van (15-seater) was very comfortable. The standard package is for 5hours and I would recommend an extra hour if you can fit in your schedule.
Angie was very informative and created a day that met our needs due to rain and an infant We had a great day in Cozumel. We learned so much about the area and its history.
Jesus our driver/guide was excellent. He’s very knowledgeable and very friendly. We had such a great time, will request him again if we have opportunity to return. Thank you so much for making our trip so memorable.
Ricky and his driver were excellent. We all had a great day exploring Cozumel. Met us at our meeting spot and dropped off at the cruise port.
Johny was a wonderful tour guide and Carlos was a great driver! We had the best tour of Cozumel as this was our 1st visit. Highly recommend!!! Be sure to carry cash for entry fee to San Gervasio and best to pay via cash
Our cruise ship’s excursion was canceled last minute so I gave these guys a call on WhatsApp. In less than an hour they had us linked up with Max and Chuy in a 12 person van and we were on our way. They asked us what kinds of things we were interested in doing or seeing, and then made recommendations for us to choose from. We saw Mayan ruins, had a great lunch overlooking the harbor, got some local ice cream, stopped by a beach, saw and alligator and armadillo, and went around the island. MAX and CHUY were super fun drivers and guides. They made our day and were total professionals. I highly recommend this company—you just tell them what you want, and they take care of everything!
We scheduled a large group tour of Cozumel, and even though we arrived late, the tour guide and driver were waiting for us. The van was clean, spacious, and comfortably accommodated my family of 16 with plenty of room to spare. Our guide, Aldair, shared fascinating historical facts about Cozumel throughout the trip. Both Aldair and our driver, Jose, were incredibly patient—especially when our group struggled to agree on what to see next. They were friendly, humorous, and made sure we had a safe and enjoyable experience from start to finish. We would definitely use Viator again for future tours.
11/20/25 Cozumel excursion – Tour Guide review - Jesus. Everyone in our family of 11 (ages 11 to 72) really enjoyed our private tour. Jesus made our Cozumel adventure exactly what we were looking for! Everyone really enjoyed his company! Jesus was very friendly, wells spoken, accommodating and helpful. He was very knowledgeable about the island and the Mayan culture. We had a very informative tour of the Mayan ruins. We enjoyed chocolate tasting, 100% blue agave tequila tasting and fresh taco tasting. We enjoyed a beautiful out of the way beach and authentic cuisine. Our family really liked that Jesus took us to the beach that he takes his own family to on Sundays! He shared spots that him and his family go to. Anybody looking for a personable excursion should ask for Jesus!
Gabi, our guide was fantastic. Once we shared with her what our preferences were, she was very flexible and adjusted to our preference.
Our tour guide and his manager were absolutely wonderful and accommodating. We were told misinformation by Viator so we had a hiccup in the beginning but our guide made sure to give us the best day he could and we had a great day in the end. But make sure you know exactly what the tour can provide because Viator told us things they could not do and they felt very bad they could not take us where we wanted to go.
I will start by saying I have done a lot of private tours over the years and this one was the best so far. Aldair and Jesus became part of the family on this trip. To say they were amazing would be an understatement. Our group ranged from 24 to 71 and they recommended sites that really worked for everyone. Everything was personalized and they went far and above anything we could have expected. For those who haven’t been to Cozumel and are worried about safety, don’t be. I am a worrier by nature and I never once had any concerns the entire time in Cozumel. If you take this tour and are nice people and good tippers ask for Aldair and Jesus and you won’t be disappointed. If you like to complain and not tip…please don’t ask for them…they deserve the best!
It was amazing! Our tour guide Aldair as well as his partner did such a wonderful job. Even with rainy weather we got to experience so much. Highly recommend this booking and if you can pick your guide I’d ask for him personally.
they tailor the tour to fit your family. we travelled with a handicapped father and one of the children has a fairly new prothetic leg. angi and arthur were very helpful and accomodating. We visited sites we were able to access and we had a wond e rful excursion.
Great drivers! Very knowledgeable on the area! Alda and Chuy were very accommodating and kind. Met our every need! Highly recommend!
Chewy (Jesus) and Gabby were very nice. They listened to what we needed and modified when it started pouring. We made a stop to the get our Laundry done and to buy some items we forgot. When my son desperately needed a bathroom we made an emergency pit stop. I’d highly recommend them and was pleasantly surprised surprised with my first viator tour experience.
Angelo and Max met us right on time and were cordial and friendly. We did not want to go to touristy stops except for the Mayan ruins. We spent about an hour and a half there. Angelo asked if we’d be interested in going to a beekeepers place. It was a small family-run business, and we enjoyed our visit there. Then we went for tacos at a local place. Angelo and Max seemed genuine in showing their pride for their home. I highly recommend this tour. We were able to do what we wanted rather than a cruise dictated schedule.
Despite the rain, we had a great day! Ricky and Hugo did a great job. We are a girlscouts troop and learned about the Maya ruins, the bees and the history of Cozumel.
Awesome experience Interesting...Hanzel and Ricky (very knowledgeable) gave us an excellent history about conzumel...shows us the main points of the island. Gave us time to do activities and take pictures. I recommend 100% of these 2 individuals..for u trip in conzumel.
On time, pleasant, friendly, and helpful. Suggested so many things to do. We also had free water in the air conditioned van
Had a great experience. Ricky was excellent in explaining everything. They have provided us with cold water as well as they were very trustworthy. We left our some stuff in their van and they had kept it very safe and secure.
We had a great tour exploring Cozumel with Aldair and Jesus. They were professional, informative and friendly! They were flexible with the itinerary, took us to several local spots, and returned us to the ship on time!
This tour was booked with the expectation of going to San Gervasio Mayan ruins. The first stop was for the monuments which were beautiful and interesting. Next stop chocolate tasting $5 per person and $15 chocolate bars. Tequila tasting $5 per person. The ruins another $15 per person. Expensive when in a large group but not unexpected. However, our guide allocated us THIRTY minutes to tour the ruins and when we weren't back came looking for us! One member stopped to buy water and he actually went into the store and told her to hurry!! Back on the van he puts his headset on and begins to explain we are now going to lunch for a cost of $14 per person! We said we just wanted to see the ruins and are now ready to go back. At that point he tossed his headset onto the dash and did not say another word to us. The bus driver was obviously embarrassed and tried to explain sights as we went by. They did make a stop at a pharmacy for us thanks to the driver. I have had other Viator tours that were among the best I've ever had but I must say this one ranks at the bottom! Would not recommend nor would I do it again.
An Unforgettable Cozumel Experience! Cozumel truly lives up to its reputation as a beautiful destination, and my recent visit was made absolutely top-notch thanks to the outstanding service from Jesus and Felipe. They went above and beyond to ensure a fantastic experience, making it incredibly enjoyable and memorable. I can't recommend Cozumel, and especially the service provided by Jesus and Felipe, highly enough. Five out of five stars!
We had a fabulous time on this tour! We were taking a Disney cruise as a multigenerational family adventure, with 13 people ranging from age 5 to ~80, and we had just one day in Cozumel. We decided that a private excursion just for our group would be the most fun, so we hired a mini-bus that seats 15 through this company and we were extremely happy with the experience. We had Ricky as our guide, who was wonderful. He was very entertaining and informative. He spoke English excellently and was also happy to speak Spanish with the Spanish-speaking members of our group. The bus was new, clean, and well air-conditioned. Our driver was very pleasant and helpful, and made sure any items we left on the vehicle stayed safe. We saw the town center, the ruins at San Gervasio, and the overlook at El Mirador, and we had lunch and went snorkeling at the Moneybar restaurant/beach area. We were having so much fun that we paid to extend the tour for an extra hour, which they were happy to do. Highly recommended!
We really enjoyed our time with Filippe and Chowe! They were so passionate about history and culture of Cozumel. We’ve learned a lot, got a taste of local honey, explored Maya’s ruins, and finished the day snorkeling at a national park. I think this is the best way to learn about this magic place.
