We had a very good experience on the charter to the reef. Boat crew was knowledgeable and find prepared was yummy. Only hint....pack more beer next time!

Itinerary
This coral reef is in the Cozumel Marine park and streches for miles. Discover colorful corals, tropical fish and maybe a stingray or a turtle.
Enjoy the shallow waters and see the starfish that assemble in the sand. In Spanish, "EL CIELO" means "heaven". It is one of the most spectacular places in Cozumel if not in the whole Caribbean. After seeing the starfish, we move to the more shallow waters. Here we have snacks and fresh fruits, a beer or a soda. Stingrays circle around us, sure an unique experience.

The woman that runs this company first priority is to fill each boat with bodies, regardless of skill level. Our tour was delayed by an hour which cut the time in the reef short. We were told we had to wait for a family of 6 who was lost. There were boat captains waiting and we watched others come and go. We were the 1st to arrive! Us and another couple had to wait. So we wait only to be told we are NOT going to Palancar reef!! Not sure where we went but they DO NOT ANCHOR, you jump in the water and have to stay by the guide (who is struggling with young 1st time snorklers!) There are many boats and they all look alike. I spent more time looking up to make sure I was with my party, then I got to snorkel. It was a joke. I also had to point out that while waiting in the shack for the lost people to be found by their van back by Mayan Square she offered to give me back my money if I didn't like the wait!! Time is everything on these excursions and there was no time left to find another. I will say the boat captain was great and made the best of it for us.
Absolutely fantastic experience, small Group, captain and guide very kind, very accommodating and knowledgeable. We were so lucky to even see dolphins swimming with us in the precious turquoise waters. Snorkeling was fantastic at 2 different reef sites, with many many fishes, turtles and even the little Nurse sharks. We always felt safe and were kindly attended by the staff, had drinks offered on our way and at el Cielo a huge plate of ceviche and fruit platter were served in the waist deep waters. It cannot get any better. Best experience and absolutely recommended would do it again and again with Leon Tours and their amazing staff
An honest review.. fair to average at best. Friendly and informative captain and tour guide. It only lasted 3.5 hours and most of it was the long boat ride. Saw very little other than rays and a few starfish. Snacks at the end were served only in the water when everyone was cold and wanted to board the boat. Not at all what was expected form other reviews.
Our family had a great snorkeling trip and loved our time with Lalo and Gustavo. Both were intent on curating the best experience possible. We saw plenty of fish, a sea turtle and stingrays. All very safe! Leon tours also graciously picked us up and dropped us back off at our resort’s dock! So easy and accommodating- first class from start to finish!
Guide was very knowledgeable of area helpful informational. Let’s us view the ocean while staying together
This was the best part of my trip, el cielito is just amazing, the ocean it’s so clear it looks unreal.
Cozumel is a beautiful island and the water speaks for itself, but the experience on the boat and with the guides was sub-par. Getting there was actually easy and the directions were clear. We were kindly greeted. 1st problem: the boat was overpacked. As an AOW diver who has been on many dive boats, we were over by at least 3 people. There were 13 passengers (All large adults except for 2 minors who were teenagers). 2) Our captains were not bilingual and did not translate English except for very few words well. I spoke Spanish and translated for my friends, but VIATOR should be clear about the translation up front in case there are families who don't speak Spanish. 3) We did not go to Palancar, even though I asked for them to take us there specifically. The captain tried to explain in Spanish that there were jelly fish in Palancar, so he was going to take us to a totally different site. I understand that he seemed like he was trying to be "safe" but there were apparently many sites without Jellyfish at Palancar that day. I was quite upset when I found out about this because I checked with divers and snorkelers who were there at the same time and they said it was a perfect day! As a substitute, the captain took us to see "Star fish". We saw one star fish and all sand for a 30 min visit. Not worth it AT ALL. I see more than that in 5 ft visibility in SoCal where the water is freezing in the Pacific Ocean. They should have made an effort to get us to a safe area at Palancar and should have worked with smaller groups and made an effort to understand our swimming skills and experience because Cozumel has some of the best snorkeling in the world! I can't believe that the captain made no effort to take us to those best sites... 4) Don't expect food. Yes, there is a whole cooler full of beer, but there is only a plate of food to feed 4 people for a "small lunch". We didn't get to eat at all because the two families on the boat with large adults finished everything before we could have a bite. We were starving and felt swindled after they promised at least some food! It should not have to be Darwin's "survival of the fittest" or "last of us" feelings on this boat here when we've paid for the food included. 5) Last but not least, there was only one guide in the water with the group of 13 people and he showed favoritism to one of the families and ignored everyone else. There were people struggling and could have drowned because he went way ahead of everyone and didn't wait for people to get off the boat before leading the first family ahead in the water. It was absolutely unprofessional. I had to step in a buddy-pull a struggling swimmer back to the boat because they had started to go under water and the only water guide on this trip couldn't care less and was three dozen feet ahead during big currents. Totally unsafe experience and against water regulations for guides. Overall, the tour was terrible and not hospitable. I would not recommend it. The water was gorgeous and the fish are lovely, though! So find a better tour that gives you your money's worth and ensures your safety and comfort equitably.
We saw some great underwater scenery. The guides didn't seem to be paying particular attention to us, however. My daughter was having trouble with the snorkel and was getting fatigued, and he didn't really help, just gave her a new mask without really assisting. He also didn't seem to hear me when I said she was tired and needed the ring--she just had to swim for it, with my help. I was trying to keep an eye on both of my daughters (age 12 and 14) so I didn't feel particularly supported. I am comfortable in the water as are my daughters, but if you are new to snorkeling, try something else with a more hands-on approach. This is more DIY, like they just provide the boat and equipment and then let you do your thing. The lunch they served was delicious, ceviche and fresh guacamole.
This was a wonderful experience to our group of 10. The reef and water was so clean and a very easy snorkel experience. We couldn't believe how clear the water was and how helpful and nice the guides were. Thanks to them it added to a perfect day.
Fabulous half day experience. Safety conscious and friendly captain and guide. Great snorkelling, and opportunity to get close to stingrays and see lots of starfish. Very easy and quick communication in organisation the tour. Highly recommended
Reefs, sea stars and drinks in water. A bit too much waiting around beforehand. Info re photos to purchase not given, maybe because we were the only English speaking people.
The tour was fantastic. We spotted three reefs, each of different wildlife. Very nice guide and pleasant co-snorkelers.
Wonderful guides, great and professional organization. We saw dolphins, turtles, rays. An unforgettable experience.
For us, the snorkel tour was one of the highlights of our Caribbean cruise. We booked a private pickup with German speaking guide from the port and that was great. It all worked out great. Lisa was a great guide and on the boat always by our side, also told us a lot about land and people, flora and fauna etc. The snorkeling was fantastic in the great Caribbean water and at the end while snacking on or in a sandbar rays swam around us.
It was a great trip! Snorkeling at the spots was incredible. The guide and the captain were great, in a good mood and well organized. Only the snorkeling equipment could have been a bit better, it wasn't a good fit for the children... But they improvised well! We had a great day!
We had a wonderful day of snorkeling with Leon Tours as part of our cruise. Contrary to the description, there was German-speaking company. At the snorkeling stops we had 2 guides with us who looked after us really well. We saw a lot and the highlight was at the end on the sandbank. We absolutely recommend it. Great trip, great support during and before the trip.
We had a very nice day and the trip is well worth seeing and highly recommended. Everything was well organized and the guides were very nice and helpful. The tour group was also a great size, there weren't too many people. What I really liked was that the guide was in the water the whole time and explained a lot (that's not a given and we've experienced it differently before) At lunchtime there was also a little something to eat and a tequila was included. We had a wonderful day with lovely people :) so go for it, it's worth it!
Fantastic snorkeling trip. We had a very nice guide, Gustavo. He looked after us really well and created a good atmosphere. We had three stops. First coral reef with an impressive number of fish and even lobsters and turtles, second with starfish (my favorite), third with stingrays. There we also had ceviche, chips and drinks. All in all, a great trip! Highly recommended!
Very well organized. The very detailed description of how to get to the meeting point was very helpful. The guides were competent, super friendly and helpful. We also loved the snack prepared on board and that the snorkeling guide dived down with our camera and took great pictures for us.
Our trip with Leon Tours was fantastic. Apart from the great colors and the experiences above and below the water, the crew gave everything. Great atmosphere, easylivin and everything excellently organized. Finally, a picnic in the sea, pineapple, melon, papaya, nachos and ceviche. Just wonderful. 🤩💞
We went on a beautiful tour with Raul and Milton, saw hundreds of colorful fish on the reefs, including even an eagle ray. At the Cielo we were delighted with coloured starfish, after which we were treated to fruit and guacamole in the warm sea. Thanks to our super guides, we were well looked after and pampered. Thank you very much and gladly again, you are doing a super job. Marcel and Irene
The tour is very well organized and offers great opportunities for snorkeling. Definitely recommended to explore the underwater world of Cozumel:) It was really impressive. The water was very clear. The guide was very friendly and provided us very well with drinks. Thanks to Leon Tours for the great tour.
Highly recommended snorkel tour! We have done some snorkeling tours in our lives, but no other tour comes close to this. You are literally in the middle of paradise, we have never seen such clear water in so many different shades of blue before. During our tour we saw numerous rays and starfish. The guides take a lot of time, they are super nice, there are delicious cold drinks and snacks. An unforgettable day and our highlight on our three-week trip to Mexico.
It was a very great trip. We visited 3 reefs (Columbia, Palancar and El Cielo) and afterwards we went to a remote beach. It was a very successful trip. The crew members took great care of us. At the last point, there were even guacamole and nachos. Very good. It was a great trip and I can only recommend it
