Experience private coaching, with a friend or partner, with one of our experienced coaches. Ideal if you want to fast-track your surfing and have an intense session of surf coaching together. Our private 2 on 1 lessons are ideal if you and your partner or friend want to receive expert coaching but without the group environment. This offer is best suited if you are both at similar levels with your surfing, but you can be complete beginner or at a more advanced stage; we will tailor the surf coaching to your level. You will be met at the surf school by the coach, who will assess your surfing experience and tailor the lesson to your current ability. These lessons give lots of instruction and assistance over a short period of time, so ideal if you are looking to accelerate the learning process. If you have already surfed, then we will use this session to build on more advanced techniques, including paddling, turning and reading the ocean. For all abilities, we spend approximately 20 minutes on the beach discussing, technique, skills etc. then the remaining time is spent in the ocean catching waves, with hands-on coaching from the surf coach.

My teenagers had a great time with their instructor Lucy. She was patient and very encouraging. The instructor was knowledgeable and really attentive. Fantastic experience. Definitely recommend Escape surf school. The kids are keen to come again!
Our children had a private lesson with Henry and had their best day of surfing ever! Henry taught them so much and they caught some incredible waves (they even saw a seal!) Everyone at Escape is so friendly, knowledgeable, willing to offer advice and are really committed to making sure that the surfers get the absolutely best experience. We can’t wait to come back next year!
Whilst in Newquay last week, my boyfriend and I had 3 x 2-2-1 lessons with Escape. We absolutely loved it! When we arrived, we thought we kinda knew what we were doing - turns out we didn't!! So not only did we need to learn how to surf properly, but we needed to unlearn our bad habits!! I also presented a challenge in that I suffer from Scoliosis and have limited flexibility in my spine. Ilya (our Coach) took on the challenge - and smashed it!! He was fantastic! Extremely patient, with a talent for transferring and explaining information and tips. Not only did Ilya teach us how to surf properly, but he was able to break the technique down in such a way that going forward if I fail to pop up, I can understand why - which means I'm able to progress individually. I'm probably still a few surf sessions away from being selected from the Olympic Team, but I'm a heck of a lot closer than I was two weeks ago!! Ilya was also able to explain how to read the waves - and was even able to answer bizarre questions from my boyfriend about where waves come from etc, and he gave us fantastic tips on how to buy a good board. We can't sing his praises enough!! I'd also like to mention Sim in the office - who was amazing in looking after us and being so friendly (despite my boyfriend droning on about surf boards!!), and the rest of the Coaches. Everyone made us feel so welcome and the whole school had such a good vibe to it!! The facilities are also amazing - and the fact that it's underneath Belushi's for a post-surf-pint is pretty handy too!! Overall - I would highly recommend Escape Surf School, and if we ever return to Newquay I'd definitely enquire for another lesson to progress further (although, I have a lot of practice to get that technique perfect first!). Booking was really easy which we did by visiting the school (below Belushi’s Bar) the day before. On the day we were greeted by all the instructors who were very friendly and made us feel very comfortable as we were both nervous as we had never surfed before. Ilya our instructor explained everything well and was very patient with us. Can’t thank him enough for his time and help for making it a brilliant experience. This was capped off by getting our lesson captured by life out there photography who we were able to purchase photos from. 100% recommend to anyone visiting Newquay, we will be back for more lessons soon!
Oh my word, we love Escape! We have been coming to this surf school for a few years now and my sons had a voucher for a private lesson that they had been given for Christmas. They went out with Reuben and had such a great time; they were buzzing when they got back. Everyone at Escape is lovely and upbeat and friendly. My boys also had several group lessons and Mike and Reuben were both fantastic - knowledgable, endlessly patient and full of enthusiasm for surfing that they were keen to share. Why would we go anywhere else? Thanks to you all for making it a great Easter break.
This surf school is the complete package. Amazing instructors who ensure you have a great time even if you if you’re a bit nervous. All staff could not have been more lovely and expert in squeezing you into a wet suit. 2 non surfers were stood - ladies of a certain age! Facilities so great! Hot showers. Excellent quality wet suits hats boots and mits. Lovely loos. Shampoos bars in the shower. Can’t recommend enough! 😁😁💕
We had an incredible time and booked three days of private lessons in a row! All of Mike's learning techniques were effective and clear, and my sister and I were both standing up on the board from day one. Everyone was really friendly and welcoming at the surf school. We are delighted and already looking forward to coming back again soon. Fantastic experience!
What a brilliant session. I visited Escape a little earlier in the day and bombarded them with questions and they were really really helpful and happy. Even telling me the best clotted cream location (Sainsbury’s😂😂😂). We had a private lesson as me and my son had never even looked at a surfboard before. Our instructor Henry was absolutely fantastic, really happy to help, loads of knowledge and just all round a genuine lad. He was really attentive in the water and helped my boy all the way so that after about an hour, he started catching waves himself. I would highly recommend Escape if you are after really friendly, attentive staff who just want you to enjoy your time. Having a hot shower after the surfing also helped.
Once again I wonderful day with escape Went out with Mike. Learns you so much With his technical experience, just gets better and better every time we go…. Great morning out with Henry. We went to fistral beach for the best conditions. Was obviously busy due to popularity but Henry found us a clear spot. Taught us an easy technique that helped us get the most out of the day. Would recommend

We have been surfing with escape for 12 years now. We live in Essex but try to get there for lessons at least twice a year. Last year we started our children surfing (8 and 10) The lesson was absolutely brilliant and both children made it to their feet first time. My 8 year old’s attention span is usually low but Mike managed to keep him fully engaged throughout the initial introduction to surfing , the warm up and the duration of the lesson. They couldn’t wait to get in the water and then once in , they didn’t want to get out. The lesson was really fun but most importantly our children were extremely safe. All facilities are very clean, the showers are amazing and super warm. The staff are brilliant. My children can not wait for their next lesson. We love making memories at Escape.
My wife and I had an amazing couple of hours learning the basics. Our teacher, Julian, knew exactly what to do in order for us to have the best and most rewarding experience, both my wife and managing to stand (pop) up several times, and improving each time. I'm in my mid 40s and thought I'd be terrible, but now I'm hooked!
We had 3 lessons and it was our very first time and these guys were amazing! We actually managed to surf from day one! The instructors are great, very professional but also fun. Highly recommended! Thank you for everything, we will definitely come back!
My partner and daughters first surfing lesson with Ruben who was amazing, such an experienced knowledgeable talented guy , with a great teaching ability . He had my partner an 10 yr old daughter standing numerous times , also making sure my daughter was well looked after and safe . They enjoyed it so much, another lesson was quickly booked for the following day . All staff here are fantastic and a big thankyou to Sarah for the fantastic pictures, bargin at £10.00 for so many shots. We will be back ! :)
We had 3 days of private lessons with Mike and learnt so, so much and had a lot of laughs! We both caught more waves than ever before, learnt a lot about the technical side of surfing, tides, swells etc and felt like better surfers after our 3 days!
