Half-day (2hr) Surf Experience In Newquay - Beginners & Improvers

Friendly and helpful staff, I was on my own but felt welcome and included. Had 2 lessons with Nora, she is a great teacher and gave me confidence. The surf school is in a great location, with great view of the beach. I hope to return to do some more lessons when I can.

We went surfing for first time ever. My daughter, husband and I. We had an amazing time. I was super nervous but Kate assured me it would be fun. Our instructor Riley was approachable and knowledgeable and we had an amazing time in the water. Really friendly surf school and highly recommend Big thank you as I left feeling like I can’t wait to try it again.

Wow! What a brilliant time we had! From our initial telephone contact with Lindsay who kindly talked us through our lesson options, to turning up on the day for our first lesson, the whole experience was outstanding. We went as a group of 6 (2 adults and 4 teens) and had a 2 hour beginner lesson with Andrew who was great. Kate in the office was beyond superb and helped the ladies get into our wetsuits, which was not an easy task! Everyone we met was friendly and professional and we enjoyed our lesson so much that we went back the following day for more!! Well done and thank you! We cannot recommend you enough!!

Nora was excellent, keen & eager to go, great tuition before entering the sea and very proactive with guidance & help once in the water. We would definitely book again with Nora.

Our grandchildren had a fantastic time learning some surfing skills with very good instructors. The check in process was very easy and informative thanks to Kate, they all make a great team and we’ll be booking again.

We had the best lesson with Andrew! He was a great instructor, improved our techniques and taught us new skills! The team at escape surf school are friendly and the location of the school is great with a bar next door to enjoy a well deserved beer after your lesson with amazing beach views

I had a highly enjoyable time learning how to surf with the team at Escape. I took three (2hr) beginner group sessions over four days in varying weather conditions. All three coaches were excellent, helping each student to catch waves and stand up with two-thumbs up and a smile after. Great coaches, equipment, facilities, and support staff, and situated on an incredible beach right in the heart of old town, I am already planning my next visit!

Surfed with escape many times, each time is a joy and the instructors are fantastic. Wouldn’t surf with anyone else, learn new things each time, close to the beach and great showers.

We went there twice already and I wouldn’t look around or even try to book surfing classes anywhere else. We know, we know it will be a nice experience as the previous ones, we enjoyed it every time and it was the highlight of our stay in Newquay. Love everything about it from smooth booking, reminder abt our session/timing and the actual lesson was fun and very much enjoyable.

We did a 2 hour beginner/improver surf lesson as a hen do group! We had so much fun, the instructors were really helpful and helped us all catch a wave! Would definitely recommend for anyone wanting to try something new and have fun!

Had an awesome surf lesson with Fin! Super friendly and easygoing, but also really clear and helpful with his instructions. He made everything simple to understand and gave great tips throughout the session. You can tell he genuinely loves teaching and wants you to enjoy yourself. Great vibes all around. Would definitely recommend booking a lesson with him if you’re looking to get into surfing!

I highly recommend Escape Surf School. I’ve been with them for several years and have always had a great experience. They’re flexible with scheduling, so there’s no pressure to complete all lessons in a short time. The coaches are fantastic, cheerful, patient, encouraging, and great at making surfing easy to learn. This year the photographer working with the school adds real value, capturing plenty of quality photos of each person every day. I’ll definitely be returning.

Just finished 3 sessions with Escape. Every coach I had — Riley, Pidge, Mike, and Andrew — was friendly, attentive, and genuinely helpful. I’ve surfed on and off for a few years, but there’s always a gap between trips, so I end up going back to basics each time. This was the first time someone properly picked up on my back foot placement — within 20 minutes of my first session — a mistake I’ve clearly been making for years. That one bit of feedback alone has already made a massive difference. The whole team was supportive, clear, and kept the energy up throughout. We had great weather and plenty of waves between Towan and Fistral. Highly recommend them whether you’re a total beginner or a more experienced surfer. I’ll miss Pidge’s “here we go, here we go” as I hopped on the board — and Mike’s knowledge of rips and sandbanks. It’s those little things that stay with you. Thank you for a brilliant experience — I’m already looking forward to coming back.

My niece keeps going back to escape, getting some practice in before Hawaii 😎. She always comes back smiling after having a great time with the group lessons. Proper coaching from the team always, not just going through the motions like other lessons I’ve had around the world. Top notch.

Had a lesson with Escape recently after many years not surfing. They were so friendly and professional- awesome bunch. Nothing is too much trouble and they really want you to get the most from your session. Thank you Glen, for great lesson.

I loved this place from day one. The staff were very friendly, very welcoming and the instructors just perfect for the job, they make sure everybody feels at ease, well informed and they are with you communicating throughout the whole two hours.

This is our second time and we came back after the amazing time we had before. Again we received the best service, welcome and lesson. Will do it again and definitely recommend it.

Used Escape a number of times, wanted a refresher to get us back into surfing, placed into a small group of similar ability surfers with our Instructor, Andrew. As usual, had a brilliant time in the hands of an amazing instructor who passed his knowledge onto us and helped us improve our surfing. Will use again for further improvement and would always recommend as the team at escape are the best.

We had the best time here. We got this as a gift for christmas off my parents and it definitely did not disappoint. The instructors were so lovely and explained everything so well. Will definitely be coming back here. A special thank you to our instructor Henry.

Amazing couple of hours! Great instructors, easy process, easy to find and close by the sea. Have to carry the boards yourself and walk to the beach and back which is only 5mins each way. Only issue was I would prefer to have a locker for valuables to be left in rather than just in the changing room. They take photos too to look at and buy afterwards. Overall highly recommended 😁

This was a great experience and we both managed to stand up and surf thanks to the lovely instructors. We had two lessons with Pigeon and another with Jack, and aside from being lovely guys, were really good coaches- patient and encouraging. Thanks for helping me live a lifelong ambition 😃

Absolutely brilliant experience Tutors very patient and considerate All kit supplied and just a thoroughly brilliant time. Totally knackered after 2 hours so the walk back up the hill carrying the board was a bit of a slog but I am in my 60’s… Best fun ever.

Great introduction into the surfconditions of the selected beach. Very good theoretical input from Mike the coach. I felt save in the water. Great inputs also in the water and lots of fun. Improving in doing turns within this 2 hour lesson. Thank you

It was our first attempt to try surfing and what an experience!!! The instructor was very helpful and explained well what we need to do and we did stand on the board with the waves, I did not believe I will to be honest. Recommend to everyone.

My first time surfing, was a little apprehensive at first and honestly didn’t think I’d get anywhere in just 2 hours. I was pleasantly surprised with how it went, actually managed to stand a few times so I was really happy. Our instructor, Andrew I think (sorry if that’s wrong) was brilliant, really cool guy, really helpful and supportive and a brilliant instructor, made the seemingly difficult and confusing sport of surfing seem quite simple and that enabled all of us to do quite well thanks to his guidance. The surf school is based on Towan beach, which is beautiful, lovely sandy beach, beautiful water and the waves are perfect for surfing no matter your skill level. Super reasonable price as well, £40 for 2 hours and they supply everything! We will definitely be coming back as and when we visit Newquay again

I booked a 2 hrs lesson in the October 1/2 term holiday no problem. The people running it were super nice on arrival and as for the lesson it was A1. Andy the coach took us all over to Fistral ,as Tower beach wasn’t as good, then encouraged us all individually into fair surfers. He did a group teaching session then helped each one of us to hone any skill we might have. Thank you to all involved. My only complaint is it was all over way too quick Dude!🏄‍♀️🤟🏼🏄‍♂️🤟🏼🏄🤟🏼

Writing a review specifically to thank our instructor, Richard (Pigeon)! Super clear explanations on the beach, coupled with support of everyone in the group in the water. Extra supportive when I was getting frustrated with not getting the hang of it. By the end of the session I think I'd managed to stand up 5 or 6 times (with a little help being pushed off the waves), which I really thought was impossible at the start! Thank you, Pigeon! I could do with you as a life coach! 😊

The Surf school is friendly and professional. The equipment is well maintained, the facilities are clean and tidy. I had Richard (aka Pigeon) as my instructor, what a lovely guy! Professional, yet funny, humble. With an hour he had me surfing like a pro! Thank you Richard, you are a legend.

Magical. Last year I had such good experience that I came back this year. Thank you so much all the instructors, Sam, Jack & Andrew. Everyone is super friendly, helpful and patient with the coaching. Good equipment and nice warm shower afterwards. The discount at the restaurant just above the surf school is cool. The group is not big, which is amazing during the busy summer & bank holiday. I will definitely come back again next year.

Two great 2 hr sessions on Towan Beach. Our two families had great instructors Henry and Fin for our beginner lessons and all of us managed to stand up on the boards. The waves weren’t big but that was the luck of the weather so we could practice the technique. Instruction was clear and precise - with help catching waves. The Six of us really thought it was great - the kids did much better than the adults! Also good to have the photographer there to capture some classic moments!

The best thing I did while I visited Newquay, me and my partner had Jake and he was an amazing instructor and answered every ridiculous question we had, I will definitely be doing more lessons when I return.

Fantastic surf school. Friendly staff and knowledgeable, encouraging coaches. Well equipped, the warm showers after are a bonus. This is my son's 4th time having a lesson and I'm sure we'll be back again.

The two girls really loved the surfing and can’t wait to surf again. Great instruction and great fun. They even enjoyed it in 40mph winds when they eventually got to “curve”? I think.

This was my second year of booking with Escape and this time I brought my Partner Tom along with me as I was blown away with the experience the year before! They did not disappoint at all and whilst the waves weren’t coming in as thick and fast as we’d have liked, Reuben made sure that Tom and I caught the ones we could and worked on our skills as Beginners and by the end of the session we could both stand up and ride the wave to shore! The sun was shining, nothing like it, can’t wait to come back again next year! Thanks again :)

Both newbies to surfing and although we’re active and snowboard, we were sceptical that we’d be able to stand up in the board in the first lesson. However we both achieved it thanks to the brilliant instruction on Lucy and the team. We’ve since gone on to hire boards and Splash about in the sea in st ives. I would recommend taking them up on the included wetsuit for your experience to make sure you’re comfy and if you have sensitive feet wear sandals that you can walk to the beach in as there is some walking on pavement needed.

Fantastic experience! The instructor was friendly and managed to get all of us standing up! The two teens in our group loved it and we all had a great morning. Definitely recommend!

Went back to Escape again last week for 5 days of surfing this time. Honestly can’t fault them. Every instructor is amazing. So friendly, so passionate about what they’re doing, they give so much feedback and instruction. They really show they care. They pick between beaches for a surf best for you. Can’t recommend them enough. Plus they have an amazing photographer too. Can’t wait to go back!

First family surfing lesson - after a quick briefing on the beach we were soon in the sea and attempting to ride the waves. Andrew, our new instructor was brilliant - so patient and attentive and made sure we all had plenty of chances to get up on our boards. It was lots of fun in a safe environment. Will go again very soon!

We had such a great time going to Escape Surf School as total beginners. We did a session a day for 3 days by which time we were coming along nicely and felt confident to be able to try it on our own. Mike, Lucy & Pidge - our instructors. - were all brilliant. Really friendly and all seemed genuinely pleased for us as we each made our first indivual achievements and progressions. Newquay is a surf mad town so this was a great way to get a flavour

I brought my 2 daughters to try out surfing. Brilliant family time and we have had fabulous lessons from Richard at Escape Surf School. We were up on the boards in our first lesson!!! Brilliant teaching - super supportive and friendly and fun!! We are trying to work out when to come back. Thank you Richard - you were amazing.

The instructors were really attentive but still allowed you to progress at your own pace. The technique they were teaching was really easy to follow and provided different options if you didn't want to stand up straight away. Our session was reschduled due to the conditions and the types of waves but this was optional and we found this to be benefitial. Would really recommend.

This was a really great session! We were a group of friends enjoying our time in Newquay and all joined the half day beginners session. Richard was really great! Some of the girls were a bit nervous, but Richard worked with each of us and we were all standing up on our boards by the end. It's a very safe feeling beach despite the size of some waves that we had and he spent the time to ensure we were all safe and working towards our best stance on the boards.
