Beginner Surf Lesson In Newquay, Cornwall

Had a 2hr surf lesson with Zach. Whole experience was seamless. Met with Zach at the surf shop. He was very friendly and made me feel welcome. There are facilities to get changed, then a small walk to the beach. Conditions were great for a beginner. Zach explained everything and was very helpful. Had a great time and will certainly use them again when I return next year. Thanks again Zach.

Excellent experience, first time surfing for our family, 3 children under 14. James was excellent, clear, helpful explanations and paced perfectly.

The booking process, communication and customer service onsite was great. George was our surf instructor and was so patient and encouraging, and gave us loads of great tips. Highly recommend.

My son and I had a fantastic surfing lesson with James and Leeroy. They were very knowledgeable, personable and a good sense of humour. They made sure everyone in the group got their attention and were very helpful when out in the sea to make sure we all got the opportunity to ride the waves. It was a lot more fun than I could have anticipated. Would highly recommend!

Great experience for beginner's surfing. Group was quite large with mixed ages. Some seemed very young and got in the way, which made it harder to catch a wave and not crash into them. Guides were really good (Hugo & Kitt) but also spent more time with the younger members of the group, which is understandable, but meant others got less 1-2-1 support.

Rosie and Lee-Roy were our surfing instructors for beginners surfing session on 01st Aug for Holly, Anya and Mike. They were brilliant instructors and made us all feel relaxed as we have never surfed before. They were very welcoming and there knowledge was on all surfing topics was top notch. I would highly recommend Newquay Activity Centre for anyone wanting to try out surfing. I (Mike), will definitely look to have more lessons as I am keen to take up surfing being a local in Newquay. We had a fabulous time at our family surf session for beginners. Lee-Roy is an amazing instructor. He is both fun and knowledgeable. Full of energy and has a great way with kids and adults. We all had a great time and all got up on our boards thanks to Lee-Roy. Would definitely recommend!

We have celebrated my son's 15th Birthday by give it a go to join a beginner surf session via the Newquay Activity Centre. We had an amazing experience. Very nervous but with the care and support from our lovely instructor called Jacinta, everything went smoothly from start to finish.We had a fun morning.Thank you. We will be back again

I booked private surf lessons for my 14-year-old daughter and my 9-year-old son. To be honest, neither of them was convinced they wanted lessons, especially my son, who had already decided he probably wouldn’t even try to stand up on the board. From the moment the lesson started, Zak completely changed their attitude. His positive energy, enthusiasm, patience, and ability to connect with kids made a huge difference. He encouraged them to get out of their comfort zone and had them trying to stand up from the very beginning, making the whole experience exciting, fun, and full of confidence. The biggest surprise was my son. Before the lesson, he was convinced surfing wasn’t for him. After spending time with Zak, he completely changed his mind. Since then, he has been practising his pop-up every single day and is now confidently surfing proper waves. That transformation alone says everything about Zak’s ability as an instructor. Zak isn’t just an excellent surf coach—he inspires confidence, motivates his students, and makes them genuinely love surfing. If you’re looking for an instructor who can make a lasting impact, especially with children, I couldn’t recommend him more highly. Thank you, Zak, for giving my kids an experience they will never forget!

Lee-Roy such a dude, such a brilliant teacher. We did a family surf lesson ages 7,9,42 &43, Lee-Roy was such a good and patient teacher. He was very cool & informative. We all managed to catch a wave by the end of the session. He was brilliant I would definitely recommend requesting him if you book. He was ‘solid’! Jake deserves a special mention too for helping carry the kids boards back to the lockup after the lesson, what a hero! Thanks Lee-Roy good luck with you business in the future x

Our lesson was for 7 people and with 2 instructors (Lee-Roy and Kittow). Both were precise with instructions, very helpful and supportive (also to children). It was good fun.

Have an excellent time. It was a great experience and all the staff were very welcoming and helpful. I am an older person and have never surfed before but so was a bit unsure, but I really enjoyed it.

I had such a brilliant time hand planing with my teacher Layla. She was fantastic teaching me all the skills and safety tips needed... and coaching me to make the most out of the waves I can't recommend this enough, a real feeling of being at the mercy of the sea and experiencing the exhilaration of hitting the wave right and FLYING through the water in just your wetsuit. Layla was a brilliant teacher, really engaging and knowledgeable... and good fun. The whole NAC experience was faultless from the moment of enquiry in the office, until the moment I left

George gave my partner and me a fantastic lesson. He explained everything clearly and was incredibly helpful both in and out of the water. We had so much fun and learned a lot throughout the session. We’ll definitely be booking with Newquay Activity Centre again and would highly recommend it.

Had a great first time sure out at New Quay. Jake was an exceptional coach and very knowledgeable. Awesome to have someone out there who celebrates the small steps of his students.

I went for my first surf session solo and from booking the activity to waiting to get going EVERYONE was so so kind and helpful. The session itself was SO much fun and in one 2 hour lesson I managed to stand up and ride a wave with the help of a great instructor, Sonny. Would highly recommend to anyone wanting to learn to surf and will definitely be back!

I had a fantastic experience at Newquay Activity Centre during my private beginner surf lesson with Rudi. He is an extremely professional instructor who explained everything clearly and made the whole session enjoyable. Rudi guided me step by step on how to stand on the surfboard, and I surprised myself by actually being able to do it! I managed to stand and have fun with the waves, not perfectly, but enough to feel confident. I now understand how to balance my body while standing, which felt like a big achievement. Thank you again to Rudi for such great teaching and for making the experience so fun. :) :) :) I would definitely recommend this to anyone wanting to try surfing.

My daughter had the "best time ever!!" (Her words). Ayva would like to thank Grace who helped her so much today, and Zak who was also amazing! As soon as we arrived, Zak came and introduced himself, Ayva may be 10 but she's very petite, but Zak and Grace made sure she took part in every aspect, from "helping" carry the boards to getting the best out of Ayva. It was her first time ever on a surf board and it definitely wont be the last thanks to Zak and Grace. Would highly recommend Newquay Activity centre, for its friendly, down to earth, encouraging ethos. Thank you guys, and we will be returning when next in the area.

It was my first time surfing, we had James as our instructor and he was excellent. He explained the techniques very well and gave us all tips individually whilst we surfed. We also did coasteering and loved the whole experience. We did sea swimming, jumps and some caving. It took me out of my comfort zone and glad I tried it all.

Our experience with all the staff, especially Harrison couldn’t be better, my sisters and I had the best time and learnt so much. The great atmosphere made it even better, thank you so much!

We had an awesome couple of days with NAC as we tried four different activities. James our instructor was brilliant, adapting the activities to make sure all of our group had a great time and we made the most of the changing conditions. Thanks very much. Loads of fun and some good character building experiences too. Will definitely be coming back next year.

Our instructor was evidently very passionate about surfing, and that energy shone through during our lesson. It was a windy, rainy morning, which could have been miserable - but Rudy made sure it wasn’t. Great memories made, and a new surfing addiction has begun!

I was very apprehensive about taking a surf lesson because I have no cartilage in my knee and can be quiet painful but Zac was very reassuring that I go at my own pace, there’s no pressure just have fun, and that’s what I did. From the moment I arrived it was very organised with multiple groups going out at the same time. I was assigned to Ellie who was absolutely amazing! The only negative thing I have to say about this experience was the walk down to the beach, I wish I had worn something on my feet as I am not built to be walking outside barefoot 🤣 From the safety briefing to being out on the water, everything was super informative without being stressful. The emphasis on being safe whilst having as much fun as possible! Whilst out on the water, Ellie made sure that everyone in our group was tutored to give us all the very best experience, I did struggle initially with jumping on the board to paddle (I was very wobbly) and she held the board for me to get find the right spot before paddling out with the wave. I didn’t manage to stand up, like most of the others in my group, but honestly I don’t care because I had an absolute blast riding the waves on my belly or knees. I would 1000% recommend this company and the team. They are excellent. I will be doing more lessons with them not just surfing! Many thanks Jody!

Such a friendly atmosphere at Newquay Activity Centre. I was made to feel super welcome from the start, which was a relief as I was on my own! They paired me with a brilliant instructor called Sasha who was supportive all the way. I really felt like she had my back and was celebrating my (small!) beginner surfing wins with me all the way. I'll definitely be coming back and I encourage anyone considering a lesson to book in with these guys. You won't regret it.
