Budock Vean Hotel

What an amazing hotel ! Had great stay with my dogs everything is so comfortable and easy dogs are allowed everywhere! The restaurant was lovely very nice walk to the beach. This is the most comfortable hotel and convenient hotel when you have dogs. I can’t wait to return 😊 thank you so much ! I hope that all places become dog friendly like this !

Great hotel, nice facilities with the pool and steam room. Having adult only swim times is very much appreciated too. Staff were lovely and helpful. Late checkout was great - just an extra £20 to checkout at 1pm instead of 11am (subject to availability obvs) The one thing that let this place down was the food - we purchased the all in one package which included dinner and breakfast. Breakfast was fine - a fry up, kinda hard to mess up. But dinner was God awful. Like, like truly awful. We had beef shin and it came out like mince meat and was served with two carrots and some grated potato hashbrown. I get what they’re trying to do - fancy small servings. But this was just no where near enough to make a full meal and it just looked so sad on the plate. It tasted mediocre too. We then also ordered a vegan pie type deal with was… weird. Just tasted like a lentil pie than had soup poured over it. I just think they need someone new heading up the menu. If you just order a burger or fish and chips you probably wouldn’t notice this. But if you want something fancy as befits price tag of the menu - prepare to be disappointed.

Rooms were comfortable and clean. The mattresses were old and soft. The drive in is narrow and difficult. At check in, reception booked me for breakfast at 8am the next morning. However at breakfast I was told that because I had booked for 815, I had to wait for the other 8am guests to order first. That was disappointing and frustrating because it wasn’t my fault. I brought my kids to the indoor pool after dinner, only to be told by another guest that children aren’t allowed after 7pm. I checked with another staff and he had to check with reception himself (obviously the sign for this is too small). Reception should have told me this at check in because we had all changed and got into the pool already. I then recalled reception didn’t book me in for breakfast for the next morning. By the time I called, the 8am slot was full (yes breakfast hours are 8-10am). I asked if I could come earlier. She said yes at 730 but there’s no cooked food until 8. I asked for the next available slot which was 815, thinking I could turn up at 745 and start first, before the cooked food at 8. The next morning, I was made to feel like a difficult customer. After chiding me for turning up early, the head waitress proceeded to ignore me and refused to take my order until 815. This despite the fact that all the 8am customers had already ordered and that I had only wanted smoked salmon and eggs. Overall it was a horrible experience for me and my family.

We love Budock Vean - but it is currently switching ownership and undergoing work. The restaurant food was not of the high standard we enjoyed 2 years ago. Breakfast all good. The grounds are fabulous though and the hotel has a relaxed feel. Will definitely revisit once the work is finished.
