Itinerary
Meet your native guide right in front of the gates that used to be the entrance point to Copenhagen. To get a better understanding of the neighborhood, your native guide will present some context of how the neighborhood's identity was formed back in the days.
Walk through Istedgade, Copenhagen’s former red light district, that have a glorious history of drugs and prostitution and still a seedy reputation around Denmark but is completely safe too frequent today. Here tune into stories on how Copenhagen maintain its more shady elements that is part of the neighborhoods identity through a variety of awesome government programs.
Traditional Danish dive bar, Copenhagen: Come on in to the first stop of the tour, a traditional Danish dive bar, beloved by the locals. Here enjoy a classic pilsner with the locals and take in the common room atmosphere of the past and tune into tales about the Carlsberg workers and everyone else from the working class who used to frequent these bars after work and why it was so important to them and the community
Walk through Copenhagen’s meatpacking district that have won several design awards for its contemporary use of these old buildings and we will walk through all of the 3 areas and tell you the fantastic story of how it was used and how it has turned into a very hip and popular place today for the locals. We will end the tour close by, so you can come back and explore the cool restaurants, bars, and shops on your own afterwards if you would like.
Marvel at Vesterbro’s heart that might not look like much, but mean a lot to the locals as a token of the neighborhoods rebellious and more chaotic past. If you’re lucky, your guide may even have a pen with them, so you can make your own little drawing on it - don’t worry, it’s of course allowed.
Sit down and tune into a drama-filled story of two siblings who had a nag for beer, which they turned into a hugely popular beer brand nearly over night that resonates so well with the city’s contemporary way of life. Their beer is of course world-known today, but this is the bar where it all started and if you would like taste one of the four initial beers they took the world by storm with. All while you of course get to see the very distinct contrast between the dive bar you just visited and this very minimalistic one.
Walk by the new theatre, which of course is a very beautiful building in and of itself. But your native guide will point out a minor detail as you pass by from the Vesterbro side to the Frederiksberg neighborhood side showcasing something very unique and symbolic of this neighborhoods past.
As we walk, your guide will lead your gaze toward a charming small building with an upper floor and one window with a very nice story highlighting the neighborhoods wonderful history.
As we walk through the French quarter, we’ll take a right turn in and here you’ll be met by a few art pieces made by graffiti artists sanctioned by the municipality. Take in the stories of these magnificent pieces and learn why sanctioned places for graffiti is important in such a historical city like Copenhagen.
Proceeding onwards, we’ll open a gate where you might suspect there is a castle and there is not. Your local guide will let you know why and let you feel what this kind of place used to be for the royals and why they built a seemingly pointless wall right next to this fantastic green haven and playground. Here you will also learn where the Danish phrase ‘To Shoot The Parrot’ come from, as the saying actually originate from this fantastic place.
With a change in the public planning processes in the late 1990s, Vesterbro changed significantly for the better. Sønder Boulevard is one of those areas that used to be very polluted and heavily trafficked, but now is one of the locals favorite places to relax with its awesome green leisure spaces.
If we decided not to stop for the beer outside and the weather didn’t allow it, we’ll head for one of our favorite local bars to conclude the tour. The place mix the homely atmosphere of the first traditional bar and the new golden craft brew from the other in a fantastic way. They also got a lot of different taps that change every week, so if you would like to keep the simple you can even roll the dice if their selection get too overwhelming. Stay as long as you like, or, if you feel like exploring further, your guide is happy to share dinner recommendations — there are many excellent places just around the corner.

Great tour with Amit! It was just me and him but he made the tour so interesting that the 3 hours flew by! He told me loads about the history of Copenhagen and we went to places I'd not visited yet like the meat district, west end and more. The 3 pubs we went to were really nice and cosy - not touristy at all. Overall it was a great tour and a great mix of history (recent history from like the last 40 years) and great beers. Definitely saw a different side of Copenhagen and would highly recommend if you want to know more about Copenhagen from a local and enjoy great beer!
Kenneth was a great tour guide. He had a lot of Copenhagen knowledge but kept it light and fun. The different types of bars we visited made it interesting. I would highly recommend this tour.
Tour was OK, guide was knowledgeable about the history of that part of the city. But 3 beers in 3 hours for the price? I think we might have been able to do better.
We had such a fun time Kenneth was a terrific host. Would definitely recommend to friends. A lovely mixture of fun and informative.
It was fantastic , been to places in Copenhagen that otherwise i would'nt have visited and tasted some beers in cosy pubs
Had a wonderful tour with Kenneth who was fantastic. He was very knowledgeable and had great recommendations for beer. This tour was a great mix of learning about Copenhagen and the neighborhood and fun/relaxation. It’s perfect for any history buffs/beer connoisseurs or for groups that have one or the other, you’ll both be entertained. I highly recommend.
Great experience i visited areas in Copenhagen that i wouldn't go on my own , our Guide Kenneth was great very friendly and told us many things about this side of Copenhagen, not the touristic one
The night before the tour, I had wandered around Vesterbro and the Meatpacking District on my own and knew I was missing something. Mie & Friends had been recommended to me by someone I met on another tour in another city, so I booked this one for the next day—and it was exactly what I was looking for. Liva was fun, engaging, and gave us the context I had been missing while exploring on my own. I really enjoyed meeting the other travelers in our small group, learning more about the neighborhood, and discovering places I definitely wanted to return to later. Understanding Vesterbro’s history and how the neighborhood has evolved added so much to the experience. If I had more time in Copenhagen, I would absolutely book another tour with Mie & Friends.
This tour was great! Our guide was funny, fabulous and set the tone for a jet lagged group to roll with it and enjoy Copenhagen pub culture! We had our family of four plus a single traveler from Finland. It was a rainy Sunday and the streets and bars were quiet and beautiful.
Michelle was an amazing guide. Her personal experiences of life in Copenhagen and knowledge of the history of the country led to an entertaining afternoon. She introduced us to a few great beers along the way.
Michelle was a fantastic group guide. She taught an all a lot about Danish history, traditions and current life. And she took us to a few great bars where we tried some amazing beer. My favourite was Freddy’s!
Kenneth was very friendly and did a great job incorporating the 2 groups he was guiding. We appreciated seeing the side of Copenhagen that isn't doing as well as the other places we have been taken to on other tours. The real life experiences of those living outside of the western gate really helped bring awareness to possible outcomes even in a Socialist country. The beer was great and so were any accommodations he had to make for our group members. We really value this tour and its highlights.
This was a fun walking tour. Be certain to wear good walking shoes. We learned a little history of the area while enjoying brews at 3 different types of pubs. Liva was amazing!
Kenneth was a fantastic guide. Very knowledgeable and friendly. We learned a lot and laughed a lot. Beer was fantastic. We loved Freddy’s Bar. Would highly recommend
Great waking tour with history on the area. Learned a lot. Loved the three stops at breweries. First was my favorite. Oscar our tor guide was Amazing!!!! He definitely know the history.
Great tour of Vesterbro with Peter. We got lucky…only 3 of us. Peter gave us insights into the society that helped us really understand Copenhagen and its people. We visited 2 historic bars and a brewpub (after all this was a beer tour!) along with a fantastic walk thru Vesterbro. He was a rich source of information all delivered in a warm friendly manner. A great afternoon!
Peter knew intricate details of the city and showed us a different side of Copenhagen. Thoroughly recommend this tour - we had a great day 🍻🍻
Oskar p was our tour guide. He was very informative and fun to do the tour with. We would highly recommend the tour to anyone who is in the area.
I did this tour with Oskar, and had an absolute blast. We needed up with a very small group, and at first I was worried about that, but it turned out to be awesome. Oskar was super knowledgeable about the area as well as all things Copenhagen. He brought us to really interesting places and gave us some excellent background knowledge and ensured good vibes, good conversation, and good beer were had by all!
I throughly enjoyed this tour and would 100% recommend it to others! Kenneth was excellent and had a great deal of knowledge about Copenhagen. I learned a lot during the tour and also had a great time. I would definitely do it again if I was to return to Copenhagen.
Our guide Oskar was fabulous! He described the neighborhood perfectly and took us to three very different bars. Along the way he explained local artwork, informed us of social programs in the area, and told about the early history and gentrification of the area. It was a very pleasant evening.🌼
Liva was a great tour guide, helping us drown our sorrows after a concert we had come to Copenhagen for was cancelled. She provided great insights into the city and the various traditional and craft beers, and made what could have been a very sad evening a very memorable one. 10/10 would recommend!
My tour guide was Silz and he was amazing! He was very knowledge and personable. This was my first time going on a tour by myself and it was so worth it. I learned so much in such a short period of time. Highly recommend (-:
Kenneth led a really enjoyable beer tour through Vesterbro, including knowledge of the area’s history and challenges, development of the area from a red light district through today’s gentrification, and aspects of the area that highlight the humanity of its residents both past and present. Visiting brown bars and a personal favorite, the original Mikkeller location, plus an unexpected licorice shot, was a great way to get to know a neighborhood with a local that brings the story of the area to life. Taking us through the Meat Packing District also provided a great tip for dinner! Highly recommend for anyone looking to experience the city through the eyes of a local in a laid back atmosphere.
Really enjoyed our tour with Kenneth and learning what a brown bar is! Enjoyed the mix of local brews!
CYCLE KENNETH!!! He is the best tour guide out there! The other party that booked was a no-show, so we ended up having a private tour. Kenneth took us to several Copenhagen neighborhood pubs, pointing out landmarks, giving us the history, and dropping many hilarious one-liners. He was engaging, knowledgeable, laid back, and an absolute blast to be around. The beer was great, but the company stole the show. Sorry you got home late, Kenneth, but we think it was worth it! :)
Oskar—you definitely did us right on this tour. So much fun exploring the “darker” side of Copenhagen with you. The pubs you took us to—yes-we’d never have either found the place or had the guts to go in!!! It ls been a few days and we are still talking about your tour!!
Kenneth was THE BEST tour guide ever. I had a solo trip and he made it so fun and took me to all the coolest spots in Copenhagen. The tour flew by!
Our guide Kenneth was fantastic. He brought us to 3 different bars (plus a bonus market to get a "walking beer" because we told him that drinking on the street where we are from is illegal and he felt we needed to have a new experience. We did not protest). All of the bars had their own personality and their own beer vibe. Sitting down with a local and having a conversation over a beer was a great way to actually learn about not only where you are, but the people. Kenneth was a wealth of knowledge about the area and a pretty awesome guy. This tour, and Kenneth in particular, gets 5 stars from me!
Had an incredible tour around vesterbro with Laura. It ended up being just me on the tour, and we had a great time! Had great beer, but also felt like I got to walk around the area and learn while also being with a local. Great conversation, company, and it really made my Copenhagen trip special. She also forwarded an entire note of recommendations, which was so helpful for the rest of my trip!
The chief and I met our guide Oskar at the designated meeting place. Fortunately for us, we were his only guests. He took us to 3 very different vibe bars/breweries in an interesting part of the city. He told us all about the meat packing and former red light districts. He was a native Copenhager and knew the city well. Definitely recommend this tour and ask for Oskar!
It’s fun and interesting! You learn about the city, the culture, some history and get to enjoy spots you probably would never had known about! Plus the beer is delicious! Kenneth was an excellent guide- friendly, funny and knowledgeable.
Awesome tour. Great guide Lucas. Highly recommend this tour and the guide. Wonderful few hours. ….,.,,::;,,,,;;,,,,,,,.:
Oskar was a great guide with interesting historical facts and a good understanding of the beer products available.
Great guide, Lucas. Easy going, informative. Nice bars- beware- they smoke in the bars! But outdoor seating in most cases.
A really enjoyable afternoon, away from the usual tourist traps. 9 guys on a stag weekend and me. What could possibly go wrong! Kenneth was a really great guide . Lots of fun. Would thoroughly recommend.
Liv was a very personable & knowledgeable tour guide. The pub choices were nice, wish it could have lasted longer. Only negative was finding the tour guide, need a better “meet” place.
We had a fantastic time with Oskar. He’s very knowledgeable and has a great sense of humor. 100% recommend if you are a beer lover!
The amount of walking is relatively low. You are exposed to second hand smoke at one of the three stops, which is somewhat intentional to showcase the "brown" bars from the "white" bars. I would be interested in hearing more details about the brewing process for the different beers.
Oscar was a great guide. 3 different places visited all slightly different atmosphere and types beer. Fun Tour, great guide, and good beer.
Wonderful time with Oscar. He was a delight walking around on the tour and gave our group many good recommendations. Good beer.
Oskar was a very good guide, and the beer tasty. A very nice afternoon on Vesterbro with my friendin.
Kenneth, the guide was quite excellent. He imparted a lot of history and information about the area, Vesterbro. We visited 3 different pubs and had one beer in each, plus we went to a grocery store to purchase a beer to go. We explored more of the area drinking our beer which felt strange because this is illegal where I’m from. Kenneth knew a lot about beer and was able to help me choose beers I would like. The only thing I didn’t like was the first bar allowed indoor smoking and I didn’t like being in a smokey bar.
Great tour with local guide. Would like to make note, the first spot is smoking inside. So just be aware if you’re sensitive to it.
Amazing experience with the host ! ♥️ She had a lot of historical knowledge and I loved going to the best places and breweries with her!
Excellent tour with Oskar. He has a fantastic guide, knew Copenhagen and Danish history very well and gave us great insights about the region we walked and drank! It’s a great trip, with real variety of pubs to visit. Highly recommended - Oskar is fantastic!
Terrific tour guide who gave us incredible personal attention and was deeply familiar with the area. We covered the entire Vesterbro area and the meat-packing district.
Excellent tour! We had so much fun walking around and listening to the great stories by Jaqueline while stopping at some pubs to try different beers which loved the IPAs. Jaqueline was a great guide very knowledgeable of the areas and super friendly. Thanks!!
I attended this cultural tour with three friends on a very cold November afternoon. However, the tour was excellent, and very educational, and kept everyone distracted from the temperature. Our guide, Kenneth, was very friendly and very informative. In fact we probably learned more about Copenhagen's culture and history from him than from a museum! Also, the bars and beer were fantastic. Great tour overall and definitely value for money.
