Reviews
I enjoyed the museum and the exhibit, but we were drawn in by the Banksy name, and there weren't actually many Banksy pieces. Mostly "Banksy inspired."
Cool museum - no crowds - wanted to catch the KAWS exhibit but thot moved on. Nice banksy exhibit, good value for money.
Do not follow the link for location thru Viator, as it puts the museum in the middle of the canal! Museum was small but had a decent amount of Banksy art/history, but it seemed it was more focused on history of street art and street artists. Interesting exhibit, but I would have liked more on Banksy.
This museum is not for older people. There was no lift but a spiral staircase without a proper railings. If you have any problems in climbing stairs because your age. Don’t come here.
Good selection of quality art pieces . Free audio guide in multiple langages is great. Took me an hour to go around . Great way to end the day.
It was awesome. The Banksy exhibit was a one of a kind experience. It was one of those experiences where you felt like you were part of the art experience.
Both myself, an art enthusiast, and my partner, who knows very little about art, we both absolutely loved this place! It not only has some of the most powerful pieces of Banksy, Warhol, Futuro, Retna and many more, but it guides you through the history of Street Art. Its carefully curated and fun approach is great for all ages. Be sure to check out the NEW basement exhibit which takes you into the future of film and digital art. Seriously this place was one of my favorite parts of my trip to Copenhagen! Bravo!!
Overall it was good but there was lots of reading about the art work. Stairs up and down to see the exhibition.
Wonderful exhibit. In-depth look at Banksy & other graffiti artists. If you like street art this is an exhibit to see.
I was looking things to do close to our hotel in Nyhavn when I ran across this museum. We had the nicest time there. The exhibits are interesting and presented in a very pleasing and organized manner. I highly recommend this exhibit if you have an hour or so to fill while in Copenhagen.
We went here with our Copenhagen card, we both love street art and there was a great collection of work to see here. If in Copenhagen add this one to your list if it's your thing too!
This is a nice little museum right in Nyhavn. We were drawn by the "dark side of cute" exhibit which occupied the top floor. It absolutely delivered on its premise. Most of the other 2 floors are about street art. There are some historical pieces, such as a picture of cave art, records of smutty graffiti scrawled on the walls of a brothel in Pompeii, and a discussion of the codes used by hoboes in the US to mark areas for each other. Then it moves pretty quickly into the 80s and beyond. There's Banksy, but also other key names, and excerpts from the movie "Bomb-It" about taggers. Small cafe counter with snacks and hot drinks. Small gift shop. No backpacks, looks like you could use a locker or just hang them on hooks in the lobby. Adults 160, kids free up to 11. My son (11) enjoyed a lot of it. Not 100% kid friendly given the topics of graffiti--the aforementioned smut, a big piece with coke ready to snort--but he didn't notice, so it was fine. It didn't take us long to go through but we did enjoy it. Easy to get to from Kongens Nytorv station, which gives you a nice walk along the canal with all the colored buildings, and there are many restaurants and ice cream shops nearby.
I love Banksy art! Great museum to Banksy pieces & history along with many other graffiti’s artists. Nice space over 3 floors. Good descriptors at all pieces.
We went here our first evening in Copenhagen and it was my favorite museum. I have never been to a street art museum, and I found it so interesting! I wish we had more time--we went about an hour before closing because I did not know it would be so interesting. An hour was enough time, but I recommend giving yourself 1.5 hours to really take everything in.
Amazing art collection. Very friendly staff. Banksy was my personal favourite. There’s also very nice small museum shop.
If you’re a fan of street art or intrigued by the enigmatic world of Banksy, the MACA Museum in Copenhagen is a must-visit. Located in a historic 19th-century warehouse near Nyhavn, this contemporary art museum offers an intimate and immersive experience into the early years of street art. 🎨 Exhibition Highlights The centerpiece of the museum is the exhibition “Banksy & Street Art: The Early Years,” which spans three floors. It features a rare collection of Banksy’s early works, including original stencils, drawings, photographs, and paintings. These pieces provide a fascinating insight into Banksy’s creative process and the evolution of his distinctive style. Beyond Banksy, the exhibition also showcases works from influential street artists of the 1980s and 1990s, such as Futura 2000 and Lady Pink. This broader context enriches the understanding of the street art movement’s roots and its impact on contemporary art. 🏛️ Museum Experience Visitors can enhance their experience with a free multilingual audio guide app, allowing for a self-paced exploration of the exhibits. The museum’s layout is thoughtfully designed, with each floor offering a unique perspective on the evolution of street art. Amenities include restrooms, a coat and bag rack, and a cozy courtyard café—perfect for reflecting on the thought-provoking art over a cup of coffee.
The Banksy and Street Art exhibition is absolutely fantastic. Some of the displays feature original artwork, which is truly amazing to see up close. The audio guide works extremely well—just make sure to bring your own headphones. The staff are super friendly and more than happy to chat and answer any questions. I highly recommend setting aside a couple of hours in your itinerary to visit this place—well worth it!
We’re all familiar with Banksy, right? Here you’ll find plenty of his works - but there’s so much more! What I thought would be a quick visit, turned out to be one of the most informative and well-curated exhibitions I’ve been to, and we ended up spending several hours here. This exhibition is essentially a history of international street art/graffiti, with examples from both sides of the Atlantic. I can honestly say that I read every word about every piece on display - something I’ve never done before, and a clear indication of how good this place is. If contemporary art is your bag, this is a must when visiting Copenhagen.
An amazing museum. At least for those like me who were skeptical and ignorant about the work of Bansky & Co and the media attention he receives. You can value more or less positively the works exhibited here, but in my view anyone interested in contemporary art and culture should know them. I will recommend to spend some time there if in Copenhaguen.
Interesting exhibitions. Gave a background to street art. Three floors all with different exhibits. Toilets and coat/bag rack available
MACA was a surprise find for me in Copenhagen. I am a big fan of street art . The collection is great. I saw some of my favorites grouped together with a few new artists that I didn’t know as well. I also think it is a great selection to introduce people to street art and kids would like it. It is down the block from Nyhavn, a street everyone goes to, so very easy to get to. I highly recommend this museum in Copenhagen.
It was a very small exhibition, and no need to book as there were no more than 10 people in total looking around when we were there. We spent about an hour max. looking at a range of Banksy and Warhol exhibits. really nice to understand the background of Street Art history and see some original Banksy stencils. Enjoyable but much smaller than I was expecting. Worth a visit.
Fantastic exhibition of graffiti from ancient history to modern day. Particularly enjoyed the Banksy pieces. Great venue, great art work and lovely staff.
A fascinating insight into Banksy and street art in general and what inspired it. A great balance of art and written information. The audio guide was also easy to download at the museum. It took us about an hour to go round. We followed it with a coffee in their quiet courtyard.
For those who love Banksy, artistic graffiti, and temporary exhibitions like the one found
We visited the MACA museum. In short, it is, in my opinion, far too expensive for what is. I think it's a thin cup of tea for 160 kr.
As one of the few museums open on 31 December, we let ourselves be seduced by this museum located in Nyhavn district dedicated to street art because its access was among those possible with the copenhagen card (CPH). Otherwise the entrance costs 160 DKK. Possibility to rent a locker for 15 DKK. The museum is divided into several floors and several buildings. There are 3 themes, Banksy and Street art, the young years, the strange American, celebration of geniuses and faerdom, devoted to digital art. Several original works by Banksy and his peers can be seen. Female and male artists are exhibited here with different messages, different demands, etc. Upstairs, an exhibition dedicated to celebrating the strange with the theme of the Raven, Edgar Allan Poe, other artists like Marion Peck, Mark Ryden, etc. Finally, the part on the ground floor / basement is devoted to digital art, which is a bit confusing but just as interesting. An eclectic museum where the works presented are interesting and culturally significant but whose admission price remains relatively high for the time spent there. It is worth the cost if you have PHC. Manager at the friendly welcome and smiling nonetheless. Possibility to buy snacks and objects related to exhibitions.
Very enriching and beautiful exhibition. I was surprised and impressed by the exhibition I had come to see, but also that.
A nice museum overall. I find the price a bit high compared to its content. We expected to see a little more Banksy, although the works on display are already impressive.
Finding Banksy in such an artistically rich city is an extra delight. Friendly place! Exhibition that brings important reflections. Maca is very close to the port.
It brings together works and information by Bansky but also by Warhol, Hirst and Murakami, with information panels also in English.
The museum showed many original Banksy works, and there was good written dissemination of them on the walls. I also got a good introduction when buying tickets.
We had an expectation that there were more motifs (reproductions/pictures) from Banksy, since that was the headline. The exhibition had more focus on general (and beautiful) street art by other famous and talented artists than Banksy. Preserved, there were maybe 10 of Banksy's works. The exhibition should more correctly be called “Street Art incl. Banksy" to set expectations.
Is that art or can that go away? Just 20 years ago, major cities took great pains to eliminate what is now worth millions and celebrated in art circles. This exhibition provides an interesting insight into the change of the zeitgeist and culture. The creation of graffiti art is very well documented. Whether it is worth it is in the eye of the beholder.
Must-see for street art lovers, that I am! 😃 You came across this nugget that deserves a serious detour! Only original works on several levels. A very nice collection of Banksy, Bambi, Kaws and others. I loved this place run by some super friendly kids! I highly recommend 🤩
Great exhibition! Cozy backyard where you can sit and get a good fresh sandwich, a coffee and some delicious pastries. It is definitely worth a visit!
Exceptional street art museum, detailed presentations, nice staff, clever guidance concept via QR code on your own mobile phone in many languages. Since Banksy is the museum's headliner, I would have expected more exhibits/pictures from him.
L'accueil a été d'une extrême bienveillance, nous permettant de décaler l'horaire de notre réservation. L'exposition très intéressante avec la possibilité de traduire les explications.
Museum run with a lot of passion! Very well selected objects. You get a good insight into the scene. Worth seeing
It 's nice, well organized, very kind staff, top services, to tell the truth, however, the exhibition I found is interesting but reduced, I expected much more, after seeing other similar museums, this is a little 'below. Also expensive, if you have the right Copenhagen Card see it otherwise think about it
Above expectations, beautiful and very suggestive works. Besides Bansky there are other notable artists. Highly recommended
