Itinerary
If you are going to get to the heart of hygge, you need to go back in time. We begin our Hygge & Happiness tour near the characteristic yellow houses of Nyboder, a famed local district. Here you’ll meet and greet your native guide and your group for the day. Your native guide is a bona fide Copenhagener who is super excited to share their knowledge of Danish culture with you, as well as local historical secrets that you won’t find in any guidebooks! And because our tours are for small groups only, your guide has plenty of time to answer any questions you may have.
Your tour takes you through the oldest parts of the city, where you experience hidden gems in the form of cobblestone-filled streets, timber-framed houses, and green refuges of calm amongst the urban sprawl. Krusemyntegade is one of the cobblestone-filled streets that just scream hygge with that old world charm. It’s a great example of how hyggelig our city can be if you just take the time to wander.
Kastellet is one of those places in Copenhagen where time seems to slow down. As we walk across the old moat and onto the fortress grounds, notice how the sounds of the city fade into the background with tales about vikings. Suddenly, it's just the crunch of gravel underfoot, the rustling of leaves, and the steady rhythm of our own pace. This is where hygge settles in without effort.
Kastelsmøllen, the old windmill inside Kastellet, is one of those spots where hygge sneaks up on you quietly. It stands on the edge of the ramparts, surrounded by soft grass and views over the city rooftops. Though it’s no longer in use, the mill feels alive in its own way, part of the rhythm of this historic place.
With vikings in our head, we’ll need to take in some of Copenhagen’s magical fairy-tale dust. Take it all in by saying hello to the iconic Little Mermaid and find out why everything is not as it seems with her.
On our way around the green oasis around the Citadel, we’ll encounter Gefion. Here you’ll hear the stories about where Copenhagen, or at least the land on which it is located, is said to have originated (Hint: It’s something we Danes consider a very dark place!) and all the stories about Norse myth that were practiced back in the Viking times.
While admiring the Gefion Fountain, hear a story about St Albans Church, that is nestled quietly in Churchillparken surrounded by gently swaying trees and peaceful paths.
As we leave St. Alban's Church we step straight into Churchillparken, a green and often overlooked patch of calm in the middle of the city. It’s the kind of place that invites you to slow down and just breathe. The tall trees offer shade on warm days, and in autumn, their golden leaves make everything feel soft and hushed. There’s a sense of stillness here that feels deeply hyggelig.
Standing on the grounds of Amalienborg, your eyes are naturally drawn to the majestic Marble Church just across the way. Its soaring copper-green dome commands attention, a stunning contrast to the soft sky above.
This will bring us to the spectacular Amalienborg, which today serves as the Royal Palace. We will be arriving just in time for the changing of the guards. While you are here, your guide will tell you all about the Danish royal family and we’ll also tell you secret insider stories about the Royal Guards - that only those who have been in the guard know about.
Watching the Changing of the Guard at Amalienborg isn’t just about royal tradition—it’s a moment of shared stillness in the heart of the city. As the guards pass by in their dark uniforms and bearskin hats, there’s a quiet pride in the air, a sense of belonging.
Tucked just behind Amalienborg, Amaliehaven feels like a secret garden in the middle of the city. With its symmetrical layout, bubbling fountains, and views across the water to the opera house, it’s the perfect spot to get away from the crowds of the guard change and refreshen the energy for the adventure that awaits.
Walking down Toldboden, you are greeted by spectacular views of the Copenhagen Opera House and the peaceful green of Operaparken. As you take in the shimmering water and striking architecture, your guide will lead you to a thoughtfully chosen nearby spot where a delicious lunch, full of local flavors, awaits.
Nyhavn’s colorful waterfront and lively atmosphere set the perfect stage for a hyggelig pause. As you take in the iconic canal views and charming old houses, your guide will lead you to a carefully chosen nearby spot where a mouth-watering lunch awaits.
Kongens Nytorv’s grand square and central location offer a brief, hyggelig moment as you walk past. Surrounded by elegant historic buildings and lively cafés, you catch a glimpse of everyday city life blending effortlessly with rich history.
Instead of diving into the busy crowds at the main pedestrian shopping Street, Strøget, we’ll gently brush past, choosing quieter side streets where the true hyggelig spirit of the city lives.
Here your guide will let you stretch your neck all the way back to admire the spire throning on top of what seem to be a church, but not all is what it seems in Copenhagen today. Here your guide will share Copenhageners views of religion from outside the church and tell you how this plays into our culture as well even today!
The palace serves as the Danish parliament today, so here we will stop to tell you all the secrets about Danish politics, the mind-boggling Danish welfare system and the weird Danish cultural law of Jante. A two-tiered system that provide Danes with a very high degree of trust, which have helped us earn the title as some of the happiest people in the world pretty consistently for years. Find out why, as you guide will unravel how these concepts play into Danish happiness and maybe pick up some hacks for your own.
Bibliotekshaven is a hidden oasis in central Copenhagen, offering a peaceful retreat just steps from the city’s busiest streets. As you wander through its quiet paths and manicured lawns, you’ll discover the thoughtful presence of Søren Kierkegaard’s statue - a subtle tribute to one of Denmark’s greatest thinkers.
We will pass the impressive Rundetårn, where we’ll share stories about the legendary King Christian IV and his lasting impact on Copenhagen’s architecture and character.
Ditch the urban sprawl together and escape into a beautiful green haven, The Kings Garden. Here take in the spectacular beauty and calm in the midst of the busy historical inner city. As you wander, hear the dramatic story of how the once-royal park came to be one of the first public parks in the world (Hint: It include former kings with delusions of grandeur and mental insanity and inappropriate love triangles!).
From Kongens Have, Rosenborg Castle reveals itself in all its fairy-tale beauty. As you pause in the garden, the castle’s elegant towers and red brick façades invite admiration, standing as a timeless symbol of Danish history and royal tradition.

Oscar was an absolute pleasure. It’s off-season (which is ideal time to visit), so I was fortunate to end up with a private tour. Oscar is very passionate about his country and his city’s history. A wonderful, welcoming first walking tour of Copenhagen. Highly recommend it to anyone. Thank you for a wonderful and memorable day Oscar!
I did the 5hrs walking tour with Kenneth as the guide. He was my guide as well when I did the walking food tour a day before this. The whole process was very seamless and felt organic. We had good banters between his not too overwhelming commentaries of the sites and places we have been to. Because of these tours, I am compelled to come back to CPH and to participate in your other programs. But the highlight of the experience was the guide, Kenneth. He made me (prolly us) feel like a local. First hand Danish hospitality, he’s a gem!
Kenneth was a great tour guide. Nice pace, steady flow of Danish history with anecdotal asides blending humor with facts. We covered a lot of ground. Ate some delicious confections and pastries. Finished up with a tasty lunch in a very charming local Danish “pub”. I was very satisfied.
What an incredible experience — thank you, Amit, for making our Copenhagen visit so memorable! Amit is an exceptional guide: extremely knowledgeable, enthusiastic, engaging and an excellent communicator, with a wonderful sense of humour. His genuine connection with Copenhagen brings the city to life, taking you beyond the usual tourist sights into its history, culture and the Danish concept of hygge. We particularly enjoyed discovering authentic local restaurants, sampling delicious Danish pastries and sharing a local IPA over lunch — experiences that made the tour feel genuinely personal and local. I would highly recommend this tour to anyone visiting Copenhagen. If you are lucky enough to have Amit as your guide, you are in for a truly special experience! Thank you, Amit — we thoroughly enjoyed every minute!
Thank you Amit! Amazing walking tour of Copenhagen! The pace was relaxed and enjoyable, while still covering so much. Amit was incredibly informative, engaging and friendly, bringing the city’s history and culture to life. A wonderful way to explore Copenhagen and get a real feel for the city. Highly recommended!
A small group (5 plus guide) is always a good start. Our guide, Kat, was outstanding. We wended our way through backstreets while Kat educated us in the ways of Danish history, culture and life in general. After coffee and pastries we headed for the big-ticket tourist sites: all accompanied by Kat’s interesting and well-rounded commentary. Lunch and a sweet treat rounded out the tour. A wonderful introduction to Copenhagen.
Great tour. Peter showed us the sites but spent time explaining how people lived in Denmark. Great learning experience Thanks
Oskar P did an excellent job showing us the sights and picking a local spot for lunch. He is a local and history major that has a great knowledge of Copenhagen and it’s history.
It was a great experience , Oskar P, great guide, clear, well educated and fun. We did several tours throughout the city but this one was the best by far.
This was an amazing day with an exceptional tour guide. The was knowledgeable and very personable. We had a great day filled with history and adventure. We had never been to Denmark and was so impressed by our tour guide and the country that our daughter is now attempting to find employment there and become a resident.
Therese was an excellent guide. She walked at a comfortable pace and covered much of the downtown sites. We had a day full of new things to see and also had a pastry to start the day and a chocolate to end the day—with traditional open face sandwiches and a small local beer. Our tour size was 9 so not too big to hear everything. We thought Therese was excellent proving current information and historical facts. We are so glad we booked this tour!
Loved this tour we did with Kenneth. He was a great guide and very knowledgeable (just don’t ask about plants or birds 😅). Learnt lots about Copenhagen and the Denmark and also about Hygge. Loved the pastry, sweet and lunch. Lots of walking so wear comfortable shoes.
We love our tour exploring Copenhagen. Only having a short time we wanted a tour that gave you a great insight, small enough to actually connect with others in the group and incl some traditional food. This tour did not disappoint and Kennith was a really friendly and knowledgeable guide, giving us a good amount of history and showing us how to embrace “Hygge”. Totally worth doing and we felt like we were walking the city with friends. There is a lot of walking, so have your best walking shoes on and have fun, we did.
We had a great day walking around Copenhagen with Kenneth. He told us a lot about the history of Copenhagen and the sites he took us to. It was also like a mini food tour as we received a couple of sweet treats along the way and a final lunch. It's a lot of walking - around 20,000 steps but we got a few breaks to give our feet a rest. We had great weather so that helped too!!!
We enjoyed the tour tremendously! Kenneth was knowledgeable and funny and gave us so much information on the history and current state of Copenhagen. We loved everything we tasted as well. We left the tour in love with the place! We will definitely be coming back and hopefully book another tour with Kenneth.
What a lovely experience - the guide gave such interesting insights into Danish life, culture and history. If you only have time in Copenhagen to do one thing, this should be it. Thank you for a wonderful day.
Our guide Peter was excellent. Knowledgeable, friendly and very funny. Top class.
Oskar met us as planned at our hotel and after introductions we set off at a gentle pace to explore the key sites of this beautiful city. A coffee and pastry stop at HART was excellent and lunch at the market halls was traditional and very tasty. All in all a wonderful day.
Excellent Tour. Highly recommended!
Truly a differentiated experience. Our tour guide Kenneth was highly knowledgeable, energized and a true showcase of the country's culture. The tour was experiential, insightful at a pace that brings out the best of the city. Of course, the thoughtful delicacies added to trip. the My strongest recommendation for this our and Kenneth if you want to experience Copenhagen in its true form

This walking tour was conducted at a great pace and covered many special sites in central Copenhagen. Our tour guide Therese provided great information and was a very hospitable host. She took us to a local bakery, where we all enjoyed an excellent authentic pastry. We also enjoyed a typical Danish lunch and then later a classic Danish chocolate treat. Therese answered many questions and gave us valuable advice on how best to optimize our time during our visit to Copenhagen. Her enthusiasm for this special city adds polish to an already great tour. Very highly recommended!
A very informative and thorough tour of all major landmarks of the city. A lot of walking but very worth it. Oskar, our tour guide, was very knowledgeable and friendly and explained everything in great detail.
We had an awesome experience with Oskar S from the moment of our meetup. He took us on a 5-hour highlights small group tour of the city. His historical expertise was full of facts and local folklore. The pace of the tour was perfect, a break for a local lunch was appreciated halfway through the tour and we ended the tour with a stop for a local bakery treat which we enjoyed in one of the gardens before parting ways. Oskar is a true gem and truly made our first visit to Copenhagen worth coming back for more. 5 stars ⭐️
A fantastic way to experience Copenhagen! Our five-hour walking tour was a lot of fun. Karoline made this tour exceptional! She was engaging, personable, and incredibly knowledgeable, sharing fascinating insights into Danish history, culture, and everyday life that brought Copenhagen to life. The five hours flew by as we explored and we especially loved stopping for street food and enjoying a takeaway beer; a perfectly Danish experience. Highly recommend this tour!
It was a fantastic day and Kenneth, our guide, was exceptional. We saw all the highlights, some lesser know, beautiful spots and had some great food stops. I would highly recommend this tour
Great tour and perfect introduction to Copenhagen. I could’ve gone for another five hours which you can do in Copenhagen in the summer. Oskar P was so knowledgeable and clearly loves being Danish. Hundred percent recommend.
This was a great walking tour; My guide was Oskar P. and with his background in Danish history made him the perfect guide for this tour. The 5+ hours went by very quickly, with nice stops for a pastry and light lunch (open face sandwich). I have been to Copenhagen before but not for many years and this took me to sites not seen before. I'm happy to endorse this tour, and the company.
Our guide Oscar was very knowledgeable and entertaining! He even had time to show us a spot that sold anime figurines and games. The lunch was just the right amount and not something we can typically get from our home land.
Beautiful and historic walk through the complete city. Get a chance to learn about history of the city.
Kenneth was a wonderful guide with a large amount of Danish history. We learned tons and enjoyed our time together. The changing of the guards was a zoo but we spent the time learning about the royal family. Our pastry was great and our lunch was perfect! A worth while tour!!!
Wonderful guide who showed us everything and was very knowledgeable about the history of this country. Lunch was amazing and Therese was kind and patient
