We picked a red HOHO bus, thinking they are all from same company. Unfortunately it was the Royal City Sight Seeing bus. It was the worst, most disappointing experience. Buses running late (one hour instead of promised 30 minutes), last bus service at 1:00pm, audio system not working, bus driver not letting people know which stops, etc. There is very little chance to hop off and spend some time to explore because you will be stranded when it stops running. This is the HOHO bus to avoid. Unfortunately they look the same as the others. Just watch the sign on the side of the bus, it starts with Royal. Avoid at all cost! Much better option is Red City Sight Seeing, or simply City Sight Seeing.

Don't expect your bus anytime soon. Waiting times were from 15 min to 2 hrs depending on the route you are on.
We were not told that last bus to cruise terminal is at 16.45. As a result we had to take a taxi. Total contempt towards customers. Commentaries were good though.
In "winter," starting in October, the hours it runs is short and not as many buses. They run 45-60 minutes apart. It's difficult to see a lot if you hop off for a few minutes' stay somewhere, museums notwithstanding. Otherwise, the places it takes you are important and interesting.
Our ticket didn't work on the bus so we had to go to the ticket office first before we could do anything
Good service and audio gave interesting facts and details of the area. We used this transportation to do most of our sightseeing here. We did all three lines.
It's worth knowing that there are TONS of hop on hop off companies in Copenhagen, and this is just one of them. Every bus you get on and show your ticket you'll be told 'wrong company'. It's very frustrating. I found out after the fact that this company has a stop right outside my hotel, but (I assume because they haven't got a $ deal with my hotel) they denied knowing where it was, or where their nearest stop is, even when I gave them the address. I had to make a massive walk with a suitcase. Next morning at breakfast I look outside the window and there is their bus, parked right across the road. However, the next morning, when I needed to get on my cruise ship, the staff were helpful in aiding me and others get on the right line and on the ship.
ROYAL CITY SIGHTSEEING COPENHAGEN - DO NOT USE THIS OPERATOR. I was overcharged and have still not had the refunded that I was promised. My receipt says 310.00 DKK but was charged 390.00 DKK for 3 days but could have done it on the other bus for 250.00 DKK, once I realised I had got on wrong bus I asked for my money back before the bus had even moved but was assured they would only charge me the 250.00, this was a total lie but as I was on my own I felt a bit intimidated so just accepted this in the hope they were a reputable company. The man I spoke to signed the receipt to assure me I could go back to him if I had any issues but he was never seen again. I will be raising this with my bank now I am home. I could not find any contact details to raise a complaint with the company and the QR code on ticket does nothing. The guide on the earphones did not match what I was seeing and the information was so basic it was pointless anyway. They also kept forgetting to put it back on when they announced a stop (if they actually remembered to say which stop it was) so I spent long periods just listening to the driver. Worst Hop on Bus I have ever been on and I have been on a few.
Very disorganized, unfriendly, speakers didn’t work. A Terrible experience would not recommend it at all. We have done a lot of Hop on Hop Offs and Never experienced one as terrible and disorganized as this one was! Everyone felt the same way about it whom We talked to 👎!
The buses only stop at each point every thirty minutes watch your time and plan accordingly. Give yourself plenty of time to get back to the cruise ship is you are on a ship
Very easy to fond bus at port. Drivers very helpfull and boat was great. All easy to find and all staff were happy and helpfull
boat trip was amazing. A great way to see the city. Little confusing as there are multiple HOHO bus companies. But a staff member is usually around to point you to the correct stop.
I only did one but route and the canal tour, but it would be ready to do multiple routes as well. Red line have a great introduction to Copenhagen.
We booked a hop on hop off bus and boat tour. The bus tour really didn’t let us see the sights that the narrative was talking about. We tried to find out how to redeem the boat tour portion of the tickets that we bought and were told by several different bus drivers that “if you’re not going to continue on this route, get off NOW” and other such delightful (not) responses. Due to time constraints, we never got to do the boat tour that we paid for. With the massive amount of people, I can understand the bus drivers being hostile, but I have experienced hop on hop off tours all over the world and this was the worst!
DO NOT USE! We got on at cruise terminal. Asked and was told bus would leave in 10 to 20 minutes. 30 minutes later got told to move to bud behind as bus we were on now not leaving for another 40 minutes. Go to bus behind. No seats left. Have to stand 30 minutes into town, no access to recorded guide. Pathetic experience for £36 each. Pictures won't upload to this site.
We have been on hop on hop off buses all over the world. This Copenhagen bus has the least amount of information of any we have ever been on. We were looking at beautiful buildings, parks and fountains with no idea what they were let alone anything about their history. We also went on the canal boat cruise with the same company and that information was good and what we were expecting to have on the bus.
Worst Hop on Hop off ever taken around many cities. Book the real Hop On Hop Off.
Saw all the high points of Copenhagen. The audio was helpful and explained the sights and the history. Would recommend.
We purchased tickets for a Royal-City Hop On Hop Off bus in Copenhagen at the cruise port during our NCL cruise stop. Once we got off the bus at the stop at Tivoli Garden, we were never able to find a bus to hop back on at other spots shown on the brochure/map. We sat at one stop for 45 minutes and didn't see one Royal-City bus, while three Red buses went by. We finally saw a Rayal-City bus at stop 12, but it didn't even slow down and just kept going. The map didn't show addresses for the stops and there were no signs indicating where exactly the stops were. Choose other Hop on Hop Off options which was also available at the port, public transportation or a taxi. Don't waste your money on this company's service.
Overall, we had a very enjoyable experience with the City Sightseeing Hop-On Hop-Off Bus in Copenhagen. The route covered many of the city's major attractions and was an excellent way to get an overview of Copenhagen, especially on our first day. The onboard commentary was informative, engaging, and available in multiple languages. The narration was clear and easy to understand, and we learned many interesting facts about the city's history, architecture, and landmarks. Our only frustration was finding the correct boarding location to begin the tour. While the map identified landmarks and stop numbers, it did not provide the actual street addresses or precise pickup locations. We initially went to Stop 3 based on the information we had, only to discover that the bus was not stopping there that day. It took quite a bit of time and effort to locate an active stop, which was especially challenging after arriving from an international flight. Adding street addresses or GPS coordinates for each stop—and clearly identifying any temporary stop closures—would make the experience much easier for first-time visitors. Once we found the correct stop, however, the rest of the day was excellent. We enjoyed the tour, appreciated the knowledgeable commentary, and would recommend it to anyone wanting an easy and informative way to explore Copenhagen.
I'm really pleased I went on this bus and boat tour. It was great to see a variety of landmarks from both land and water. I especially enjoyed the boat trip and we were fortunately blessed with lovely sunny weather. It gave us some ideas of where we would like to spend some more time exploring.
Copenhagen was very busy. The hop on hop off bus was a good way to get around however it is uncomfortable on hot days. This is a good way to get a taste for the city.
Copenhagen is a very attractive city and the HOHO is a good way to see the city if you have enough time. The boat ride is very nice but It takes too long to wait for a bus.
Hop on hop off buses are always a great way to see the city and this did not disappoint. I will say my only negative comment is the communication was lacking on when the last bus would run. We only found out by accident at 5:30pm/17:30 when the bus we were on a bus and the driver said that was it, last stop of the night.
Provided a wonderful overview of the city. My favorite was the boat tour which covered so much of the history of Copenhagen! Also it dropped us off at the cruise pier.
This HOHO experience was the WORST such experience ever. And I’ve taken these excursions many other places. This excursion is an utter waste of money and time. The only redeeming feature is that it kept me out of the rain. That IS IT.
We went to get on needless to say they end service at 4 so we ended up not even using our tickets No communication ref the times of hop on hop off
Bus was easy to access. Clean. Good commentary. Stopped close to many key attractions. Love the canal boat. Different way to see the city.
A very convenient way to get from the cruise ships to the city center. But definitely a little walking around will allow you to see more of Copenhagen.
This bus tour was horrible. However, before going into the horror story of our experience, let me note that there are two RED Hop On Hop Off bus lines in Copenhagen. One that is City Sights and the other that is Royal. This review is about the Royal bus tour that is run by Gray Bus Lines. It is almost impossible to tell them apart. The “Royal” Gray Bus Lines HOHO tour is a complete disaster. We paid and then boarded the bus at Tivoli Garden and then were told that it would be 30 minutes before the tour started because the driver was on his lunch break. The tour started 30 minutes later as warned. Problem 1: about a third of the sound modules that you plug your earphones into were broken. Problem 2: when we stopped at the little mermaid we were told that we would be there for 5 minutes to allow people to get off the bus to take pictures. We were stopped there for 20 minutes in intense sun and everyone on the top deck was calling for the driver to start moving. I think he was either drunk or high, but either way he was not responsive. Problem 3: the driver could did not know how to stop the bus. At every stop, he would pump the breaks and the passengers would be thrown forward and then thrown back multiple times before the bus stopped. Problem 4: when we decided to get off the bus after it stopped at a site, we got onto the stairs and the driver accelerated and then braked. This resulted in me falling down the stairs and my wife being thrown into the hand rail. I was not injured, but my wife was hurt quite badly. We later found out that she had broken a rib. Problem 6: We did get off the bus after I yelled and my wife screamed. But when we went to get back on the bus shortlyly later we were told that this bus was out of service as the driver’s shift was over. However, he did agree to take us to the starting point for us to catch another bus. Problem 7: However, he didn’t do this. He just stopped at a random place and told us to get off and take a city bus back. Whatever you do, avoid the Gray bus line.
Great sightseeing, just be aware sometimes the buses leave before schedule and it is another 30 mins till they come around again, especially the Little Mermaid stop, said he would wait 5 mins while everyone took a picture, but was gone before any of us got back
Not very informative Seemed to take a long time, but didn’t see much. Would have been better exploring on foot or bicycle
This was horrible. Waited at several different stops for a long time and no bus ever came. Then we finally got to one where the bus came and it just drove right by. It didn’t even slow down. I tried to get a refund, but was denied. Horrible horrible experience.
We had to wait for two different busses over 60 minutes at the first pickup spot, obviously they dint have enough drivers Several roads closed in Copenhagen so the bus had to detour around Not worth the $96 we paid for two people, we only did 1 go around then gave up and got off walking on our own
Copenhagen Classic Canal Tour With Guide - actually my review is about this canal tour, it started raining and the tour guide covered herself first with umbrella and raincoat then gave us raincoats about 15 minutes after it started raining, we were all drenched, there were old people and kids on this tour. when i asked the guide if they would let us take the tour again the following day, she abruptly said no!!!! i contacted both viator and the local company AND THEY WERE POINTING FINGER AT EACH OTHER, TELLING ME TO CONTACT THE OTHER, UP TO NOW, I NEVER GOT A RESPONSE FROM EITHER, HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE!!!!
Shocking - earliest bus we could get from the port was around 10.30am in the morning, so we had already lost a couple of hours of potential sightseeing. When we eventually departed the ship, there were long queues and they were only loading one bus at a time! When on the bus, some of the automated ear piece 'sightseeing commentary' were either not working or there was a significant lag in describing sights we had already passed. Our bus also missed stops as it was full, so people waiting at bus stops were unable to board. Due to this, passengers were fearful of getting off as there was no guarantee they would be able to get a seat back on another bus as they all appeared to be full. For the price being charged, this was extortionate in our opinion and did not offer the service we were expecting. We will never travel on any hop on / hop off bus service in the future.
Great way to see a lot of the city in a short amount of time. I only had a day and I went on all 3 lines and the main line twice. Started around 10:30am, finished around 4pm.
There were not enough buses in service on a bitterly cold wet day on May 16. We waited 45 minutes in freezing cold rain while one City Sightseeing bus which was too full for us to get on and 4 buses from a competitor went past. Once we were on the bus, the experience was very good and the drivers were friendly and informative.
Great experience. The only problem was that our ear phones didn't work well and missed some of the audio from the tour.
Total ripoff!! Please save your money and pick another company-- They over- crowded people on the bus so people were standing in the aisles upstairs and down. Dropped us off at 1 stop and told us buses would come around every 30 minutes or so. A total lie- they take your money and Never come back for you. We ended up walking several miles and then paying for a taxi so we wouldn't miss the ship. AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!
I like that you get off at any of the stops and explore and wait for the next bus or just stay in the bus the hole ride. I really enjoyed it.
It was comfortable and informative. At times it was difficult to to be sure where the narrative was directing you to look.
Commentary is to a minimum. You pass big nice buildings without any commentary. Driver was nice but didn’t offer headphones I had to come down and ask fir tgem
BUYER BEWARE!!!! DO NOT USE ROYAL CITY HOP ON HOP OFF IN COPENHAGEN!! I wished I had read these reviews before wasting my money with Royal City hop on hop off. As others did, I purchased on the bus at the cruise terminal. Only ride we got was to another cruise terminal and to the Rosenborg Castle stop. The map they provided show approximate locations of pick up spots but when we went there, no signs saying you were in the right spot and no bus showed after waiting over a half hour (they said buses stop every half hour). Finally just had to take a taxi back to the port. If there is an equivalent to the US BBB in Copenhagen, they will be hearing from me!
We booked a 72hr ticket and the first 2 days were good, though we did find out that the last bus was 4pm and not 5pm as it said on the website. On the 3rd day we used the bus as normal getting on at stop 2. About 2.45pm we got on the bus and drove to the little mermaid, normally the stop there is 5 to 10 minutes but this time the driver said it would be 15 minutes but that turned into 30 minutes as he was on his phone and chatting to people. We therefore missed the last bus as it had left the last stop to get to stop 1 for 4pm, the previous day we had transferred bus here. I asked the driver had I missed the last bus and he said yes, and looked surprised, so I asked where to get a taxi as we were nowhere near our hotel. He panicked and said he was going in that direction and would take us, he hadn't listened and nearly took us further from our hotel if we hadn't noticed. Beware if you're relying on the last bus it will depend on your driver.
Great experience..... very informative... lots of stops to all the major attractions. & then some... no long wait times... loved having three routes... got to see more of the city... bus drivers very help...
It was a great introduction to the city neighborhoods and to city history. I always start a visit with a hop on hop off tour.
Convenient way to see the various sights of Copenhagen with some fun facts on the tour. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Buses were comfortable and clean. There are three routes and for some of them (e.g. the green route) the last bus departs early in the day in winter which is something to be aware of and plan ahead for. There can be a long wait between buses, but at some of the key stops (e.g. The Little Mermaid Statue) the bus stays there a bit longer to allow you to hop off, take some photos, and hop back on the same bus. Unfortunately the bus tracking app did not work for us.
Disappointing experience with city sightseeing customer service. I have used this company in other cities and always had a great experience. They have refused to refund our tickets or provide any compensation even though they have admitted the service wasn’t fully running that day. We had one day in Copenhagen so bought a bus ticket to see everything in one afternoon. After getting off for lunch, the bus never returned to our stop. We wasted time waiting for the bus, then walking to another stop, then upon checking the tracking app we saw the bus we were waiting for taking a different route, skipping stop 10 & 11 where we had been waiting. We had wasted so much time, our only option at that point was to walk 20 minutes to stop number 1 in order to catch the last bus back to our hotel. In doing so, we missed out on all the stops after stop 11 which we were hoping to see in our short stay. I contacted the company last week and they have admitted the bus changed route that day due to a parked car on the road - but even so they won’t issue us any refund as it’s ’not Their fault’ They closed two bus stops and left no sign at the stop and left no notification on the bus tracking app. The bus driver was also well aware we got off at this stop but never returned. I feel like we have been scammed. The tickets aren’t cheap and not worth the service we received. I wouldn’t use this company again. If you have mobility issues don’t bother as you may end up stranded.
I am extremely disappointed with my experience with City Sightseeing. I had to cancel my ticket due to a sudden family emergency that required immediate travel back to the UK. Despite explaining the situation clearly, the company refused any refund, insisting on documentation that simply cannot exist for private, last-minute road travel. While their policy states tickets are “non-refundable” and remain valid, in practice it will be impossible for me to use the ticket in the future, making the “valid ticket” solution completely impractical. I feel the company handled this situation very rigidly and without any goodwill or flexibility, and their customer service was frustratingly unhelpful. Genuine emergencies should be treated with understanding, not a strict insistence on impossible proof. I would caution other travelers: this company strictly enforces policies over fairness, even in exceptional circumstances.
