Wasn’t sure what to expect with a Self Guided Audio Tour but this one was fantastic! Easy to download and follow the instructions. The guide gave history, archaeology information as well as highlights at each trailhead or outlook. He gave options depending on how much time you had in the park, and included his “must do” things! Told my husband I will definitely look for his other tour options when we are traveling. He even gives information about the towns outside the park depending on which direction you head! Absolutely fantastic!

Itinerary
As the audio guides play commentary based on your gps location, you can create your own itinerary along the tour route(s) to match your interests and schedule. Or you can use our trip planners for our suggestions on half, full or multi-day itineraries. Some of the many highlights are listed below
Located on the Cliff Palace Loop, Balcony House is one of the more adventurous of the cliff house tours as it requires climbing multiple ladders and even squeezing through tight passageways. The best non-tour view of Balcony House is from the Soda Creek Overlook Trail, also located on the Cliff Palace Loop Road. To see inside Balcony House, you must have a ticket for the Ranger-guided tour.
This museum has a superb collection of items and exhibitions and provides an excellent opportunity to experience more of the culture, beyond just seeing the ruins.
Perhaps the most famous of all the cliff dwellings in Mesa Verde, Cliff Palace was first re-found by rancher Richard Wetherill, though he'd received tips of its existence from a local Ute member. It is the largest cliff dwelling in North America with 151 rooms and 23 kivas. Getting into Cliff Palace requires a pre-purchased ticket and the tour is considered Ranger-assisted. Your timed visit is supervised by a ranger who provides information, but you are somewhat allowed to self-explore.
Mesa Verde is most famous for its cliff dwellings and rich archeological sites, but its elevated mesa-top setting also means we get to enjoy some fantastic views in every direction. Though its naming is factually incorrect, the Montezuma Valley Overlook reveals a landscape where we can see as far as 100 miles away. This view is also significant because it shares the locations of other significant pueblo sites in the valley below.
There are many worthwhile scenic views throughout Mesa Verde, but this one must rank as the best. A full 360 degrees of viewing can be enjoyed from this highest, easily-accessible point in the park. On a clear day you should be able to see into each of the Four Corners states, as well as numerous mountain ranges and specific geological features such as Shiprock.
Spruce Tree House is located at the same access area as the museum and other park services. Though it is not as large as Cliff Palace, this dwelling is considered the best preserved. It is easily appreciated and photographed from the viewpoint behind the museum. Unfortunately due to some rock falls and destabilization, it is not possible to visit inside the Spruce Tree House for an indefinite time moving forward. There are also 2 popular but somewhat strenuous hiking trails that leave from this location; Petroglyph Point Trail - which as the name suggests, leads to a petroglyph panel, and the Spruce Canyon Trail. Expect each of these hikes to take approx 2 hours.
Step House is the best opportunity in Mesa Verde to be able to get up-close and personal with a cliff dwelling, but does not require a that you join a ranger-led tour, and that you do not need tickets to see. Step House is located at the end point of the excellent drive along Wetherill Mesa Road. The bonus of visiting Step House is the many outstanding views along the 20 minute each way drive.
Sun Temple was one of the last mesa-top pueblos built at Mesa Verde. The distinction is that it is built on the land, and not in a cliff alcove - almost like a regular building!

This tour is fantastic and you're able to go at your own pace. Very informative! Will use this feature in the future on other tours!
With limited service and time constraints we opted to not use it and use the national parks site. There was also a lot of screwing around to decipher, download, open and utilize. Plz simplify the process for technically inept folks.
Surprised at how well this experience worked in all ways. Great guide, very educational, very comprehensive and well worth the money. we enjoyed all aspects of this service! Wish it was available at other venues.
We loved the guide! It was the perfect way for us to visit the park. The speaker had a great voice, followed our stops and starts completely, gave great information, and included recommendations. Who could ask for anything more?! We recommended it the very next day when we met people planning a visit to Mesa Verde.
Terrible experience!!! Could not get any audio volume and would not sync with car radio. Diagnostic assistance was worthless. Abandoned it and drove on. Totally worthless!!!
This audio guide was a treat on our adventure. The narrator was humorous and informative.
Enjoyed the informative narration! His voice was calm and composed. The details were excellent and intuitive. The best part was that the app knew where we were in the park, no need to rewind.
Fun and Interesting. The narrator on the self guided tour of Mesa Verde NP was easy to understand. Amazing how the GPS tracking started the audio at the right time.
We loved the self guided tour through Mesa Verde National Park. The app was very easy to download and set up. The narrator was very informative, had a great sense of humor, and the cost was very reasonable. We were amazed at how the GPS worked in the app and would pick up right where we left off no matter where we were inI look forward to other self guided tours in the future.the park.
Absolutely! We liked the self guided tour as we could go at our own pace. This national park is stunning, filled with history.
The narrator was very knowledge and entertaining . We were fascinated by the stories the narrator was sharing with us .
Omg we had such a great time. I will definitely use again. There was so much knowledge and at the right time though out our drive.
We just love your audio self guided tours!! They are so informative!! You learn so many things you would miss otherwise!!
The program was like having a personal guide. it guided us and gave great descriptions of where we were heading and what we were going to see. it even made suggestions based on our amount of time we had to spend in Mesa Verde. The program followed our GPS location with no issues. We only spent one day in the park but if we had more time we could have spent another day viewing other areas that we did not see. It was a great experience seeing all the Pueblo areas. The staff was so friendly. the crowds were not bad since we visited in October.
So glad we booked this! The day we planned to go the government shut down national parks. With this narrated driving tour we were able to drive and hear about the park and special stories that made it come alive.
Informative, easy to use and fun! Narrator provided interesting history and geologic information, as well as suggestions of which sites to visit if one had only a limited time in Mesa Verde Nat. Park.
Good information. Wonderful that it works without internet. Tour picks up from wherever you are in the park. Will definitely consider using this service again in another place. It's a great value!
We really enjoyed it. We liked the information provided and appreciated the directions. We were pleased with how accurate the locations matched with the narration.
The Guide is very knowledgeable and easy to understand. The technology lets one travel at his own pace and the Guide automatically activates when in range of the site being viewed. Guide also gave excellent advice about which sites to see first, depending on time available.
This was a great low stress way to view the park. Completely on your own schedule. The guide is great, easy to listen to and funny.
We loved that we were given some history before we.got to the site so we knew what to expect. We went at our own pace so we didn't feel rushed, we could stay as long or as short of a time as we wanted. We comment or was funny and enjoyable to listen to. We liked that when we left the car it paused and when we returned it contained exactly where it left off. We would definitely purchase something similar again. Probably just as good as going on a guided tour. Saved us tons of money!
Downloading the narrative is best. Know that you should enjoy walking and carry water with you no matter how you feel you don’t need to.
Awful - could not get video to play. Did not have an app to use. Called customer service, they suggested we use my partners phone and app. Before they told us what to do they disconnected us. So we proceeded without the travel aide.
This is such a great way to get the history and stories about a place at your own pace…..will do again at other parks!!
We enjoyed the geology and history of the area. This suggested hikes were excellent. Our favorites were the ranger led tour of Cliff Palace and the self led hike around Far View.
The cliff palace The pit house The views The audio tour guide was very knowledgeable and had a great sense of humour.
The commentator was excellent. Had a few jokes. Our worst part was Internet service wasn’t the best but when we had it, it was great
Explaining the culture and funny jokes throughout. I LOVED this. I will definitely be a future customer!
Excellent audio tour. Really put sites at Mesa Verde in perspective and demonstrated their accomplishments for their times.
Although the narrative was a little corny in places, the narrator pointed out all of the key sights and I believe that we were able to see all of the key sights within the park. Well worth the $20.
Mess Verde was wonderful. Viator auto tour was too complicated for this senior. Used the auto tour provided by the park free of charge.
Scammed. Couldn't get guide app as it didn't recognize me. Please refund my purchase. No support. Will talk with Visa to investigate.
Breathing views and vistas as directed by our narrator. Interesting anecdotes and stories of Indian life in ancient times. Flawless directions and parking tips. Thoroughly enjoyable start to finish.
The narration was terrific. We had a hiccup with the trip not appearing in the app. Response from customer service was slow so we missed 1/2 our narrative.
A great way to see and experience the park in general, especially for us older folks. the views all around, the cliff dwellings from a distance, and the stories behind them.. Thank you.
We couldn't get a reservation for a guided tour so we decided to try the audio tour. It was great. We enjoyed being able to stay in our car since it was so hot outside (100 degrees). We had the flexibility to get out at the different points of interest and spend as much time as we wanted at each of the stops. I loved the background information that the narrator provided. The GapS knew exactly where we were so the audio was always in synch with our drive through the park.
The narrators voice was very pleasant The amount of knowledge we learned during the trip was amazing. I would highly recommend doing a self-guided tour if you want to skip the long lines in the extra fees that come with it being able to enjoy the trip on your own pace at your own time with your own family and friends it made it way more enjoyable. We thought we might not be able to see the park and its entirety given those self-guided to her, but we’re so pleased That we are able to capture everything
Great way to see the park. It knew where we were and helped us see things we wouldn’t have known to stop at. Highly recommend!!!
The self guided tour was very informative, the 'tour guide' had lots of knowledge about all of the sites. It was also cool how the 'tour guide' knew where we were in the park and would let us know which direction to go depending on what site we wanted to see.
The narrator was awesome-interesting, knowledgeable, humorous! The GPS tracking makes this tour so easy!
Excellent for information w/o guide. We did get tickets but learned a lot about park with application.
The tour was well narrated. However, there were places on the map on the brochures we picked up in the visitor center, that we either could not find, were closed, or we were not able to get to. Some places were not narrated on the top loop, so we missed them. Overall, we had a great time. We saw beautiful sites and scenery and had an enjoyable day.
This tour was so entertaining and informative. Dave, the narrator, told us about the early people of Mesa Verde and the subsequent people, as well as theories regarding the settlement's abandonment. Additionally, Dave talked about the geology of the area and where to stop and hike. We loved the narration so much that we purchased the audio tour for our next stop, Arches National Park. Highly recommend!!
Extremely well done and very informative! Will look for other times to use this format. Very easy to use.
My wife and I had the greatest time listening to the narrative presented by Viator. We drove Mesa Verde for two whole days, had two guided tours, and learned so much about the historic site. Thank you so much for making our vacation. Something we will never forget!
The history was particularly appealing. The gps way points were spot on. Excellent presentation. Great guide.
This tour started when we left Durango, it was a nice intro. In the park the tour was ver informative, and gave lots of interesting information about the various sights, where to park and times. Would definitely use Viator again !!
Seeing the whole park and learning the history. It was a great experience would definitely recommend anyone to do it.
Charged twice for this experience, once with TA and second with App they referred us to. Want a refund for the $12.99. Thanks
