A Wonderful Stay in Vail, With One Minor Hiccup. Now that everything has finally been settled, it’s about time I shared a review of our stay. Here’s a breakdown of our experience: 1. Room: 5/5 The room was spacious, impeccably clean, and featured a balcony overlooking the courtyard. The bathroom was equally impressive in size and added to the overall comfort of the stay. 2. Breakfast: 5/5 The breakfast offered an excellent variety of options, and everything we tried tasted great. The live omelette station was a highlight, allowing guests to customize their orders. The host and waitstaff were consistently polite, warm, and attentive. 3. Spa & Amenities: 5/5 The hotel offers excellent spa facilities. We made use of the swimming pool and hot tub, both of which added to the relaxing experience. 4. Property & Location: 5/5 The property delivers a wonderful European ambiance and is beautifully maintained throughout. The concierge and hotel staff were courteous and welcoming. Its excellent location makes exploring Vail convenient, with easy access to Vail Village and complimentary buses to Lionshead. 5. Booking & Payment: 3/5 This was the one aspect of our stay that could have been handled better. We booked our accommodation using credit card points and were under the impression that the costs were covered. At checkout, we were expecting to pay outstanding amount of $60.94 (as shown on our booking) but however, we were subsequently charged approximately $140. After discussing the discrepancy with the hotel staff, we were informed that their system indicated a higher amount was due. While we agreed with some of the additional charges, we did not agree with all of them. We therefore followed up with our bank, and after approximately 2-3 weeks, the refund was finally processed. The issue was eventually resolved, and we appreciate that. However, clearer communication and greater transparency regarding the final bill would have made the experience much smoother. Had the charges been accurate and clearly communicated from the outset, this category would easily have received a 5/5. Overall Rating: 4.6/5 Despite the billing issue, we had a wonderful stay and would highly recommend this 5-star property to anyone planning a visit to Vail. The hotel offers excellent rooms, breakfast, amenities, service, and location. With a little more attention to billing transparency, the overall experience would be close to perfect.

This was my first stay at a five-star hotel, and Sonnenalp was a lovely introduction. I visited during the second week of October, in the off-season, and actually preferred the quieter atmosphere and fewer crowds. The location was perfect for exploring Vail Village on foot, with so many great restaurants nearby. My room was spacious, clean, and nicely decorated in the hotel’s Alpine style. I especially loved the soaking tub and walk-in closet. Service was consistently great, from the friendly, helpful front desk and valet staff to housekeeping, who kept everything beautifully cared for. The cookies at evening turndown were a lovely touch. Breakfast at Ludwig’s was included in my stay, and the extensive, delicious buffet, lovely staff, and atrium overlooking the creek and fall colors made it a wonderful start to each morning. I enjoyed reading by the fireplace in the library during downtime. The spa was another huge highlight, especially the pool that extends outside. My massage and facial were a great way to start the vacation and felt worthwhile, although I’m not sure the “high altitude” option specifically added much for me. My main disappointment was the bed, which I didn’t find particularly comfortable, and I didn’t sleep as well as I’d hoped. A smaller convenience I missed was Google Cast on the bedroom TV—it was available on the TV in the living area, but I would have enjoyed streaming something from bed. I booked with points and felt that was worthwhile. The $55 daily valet fee caught me by surprise; I was comfortable paying it with the room covered by points, but the total cost would deserve more consideration if I were paying cash. For me, the welcoming service and cozy places to unwind were what made Sonnenalp special.
My girlfriend and I had the most wonderful time. The room came stocked with some delicious treats and even a handwritten note from one of the bellmen, Donny. We enjoyed the oversized tub, the plush bathrobes, and slippers. The heated floors were quite the treat as well! The staff was so friendly and helpful, the bellman Tony was a hoot when we checked in! Thank you all for an amazing experience!
We had a great stay and I highly recommend this hotel. The room was fantastic and the breakfast was spectacular! The staff at breakfast was super helpful and friendly. Smara took care of us and was wonderful (both with the service as well as super sweet with our kids). Definitely will be staying here again
We stayed at Sonnenalp Vail from March 25th to the 29th and had a really enjoyable experience overall. We were there for a wedding on site, and the staff working the event provided great service. All the bar staff at the wedding venue were fantastic—attentive and professional. The rooms were big and spacious with very nice bathrooms. The spa was excellent—relaxing facilities and great treatments. The outdoor pool and hot tubs were nice and a great way to relax. Room service was good, arrived quickly, and the food was tasty, though there were quite a few extra fees that added up. A few notes for a property at this price point: -The on-site King's Club bar closed at 11pm, which felt a bit early for Vail. -The oxygen bar in the spa was pretty pointless in our opinion—we wouldn't recommend it. The biggest issues were related to the room climate. There was no effective air conditioning, so on the sunny days it got uncomfortably warm and stuffy. We also wished they had screens on the windows so we could leave them open at night for fresh air without bugs. For the room rate we paid, better climate control and window screens should be standard. Despite those points, the service was warm and attentive throughout our stay, the location is perfect in Vail Village, and the overall vibe was relaxing and luxurious.
