Walking Tour Around Colonia Del Sacramento Old Town

Ido was an enthusiastic and knowledgeable tour guide and gave us a nice overview and history of Colonia. Highly recommend her!!

Idoia was an enthusiastic guide. Our group only had 6 people so it was easy to hear her and to ask questions. It was a good orientation to the history of the town and what we were seeing. She also gave restaurant recommendations as we passed them and we found a great place for lunch. It’s a walking tour and lasts an hour and a half but you do not walk the whole time, you move between locations and then stand for a little while learning about what you’re seeing, so not too strenuous. There are a lot of cobblestones so wear comfortable shoes.

This was a wonderful walking tour, our guide, Idoia, was excellent! We learned a lot about the history of Colonia, the architecture and the people. Would definitely recommend!

This was a fantastic walking tour. We wound up having our own private tour with Idoia who was a knowledgeable and very personable guide. In a short amount of time we got a lot of history and stories about the town and felt like we covered everything. Book this tour instead of the ones offered through the ferry companies as those usually had 15-20 people in them versus this small group experience.

My tour guide Idoia Cia was truly charming. Luckily we had a small group of nine people. She was very attentive and friendly. She provided us with a local map so it helped a lot when she explained geography. I highly recommended this introductory tour.

Our tour was small and personal. Our guide was very friendly and knowledgeable despite only have lived in Colonia for five years. We felt like she covered a good amount of history on the tour.

Idoia is such a knowledgeable and professional guide and a pleasure to be around. I learned a lot and this packed with historical information walking tour made my visit to Colonia de Sacramento complete. The old town is a gem, but its history is what makes it come to life.

This was a fantastic tour of tiny Colonia del Sacramento. Our tour guide gave us insight into the history of Uruguay and Colonia, and really made it come alive! Just enough history, facts and humor to keep it all interesting! This was the best tour we’ve had on our trip thus far!!

We only spent a half day in Colonia del Sacramento, and our guide Mayra was amazing. She helped us see the historical district, and had helpful recommendations for us after the tour. Would highly recommend.

This is an absolute must do especially if you don’t have much time in Colonia. Our guide Mayra was fantastic - knowledgeable, friendly, and spoke flawless English. It was clear that she had a depth of information on each stop, and was able to answer the group’s questions on other things about Uruguay that were not necessarily part of the tour. Especially for the reasonable price, I highly recommend this tour.

Very very difficult to find the meeting spot. The local people did not know the name of the square where we were to meet . The guide later said thats becuase hardly anyone lives in n the old district . We virtually did did the tour trying to find it walking back and forth . The meeting spit is near the basicilia( church) if you decide to go. Not much of a tour the guide was very nice but thats about all i can say about it.

We liked the history, it was a good length in time for us to understand/introduction to the town and be able to go and visit other places of interest after the tour and spend more time walking around.

The tour is run by an independent guide, Iodia. She is super friendly and knowledgeable. I ask a lot of questions and she was able to answer all of them. She is able to guide and be conversant at the same time. We had 5 people on our tour and she encouraged pictures and questions. Her English is excellent. She is easy to understand and speaks clearly. Colonia is a small area- easily walkable but you would miss a lot if you did not take the tour. Highly recommended.

Really enjoyed this tour! The guide was very friendly, knowledgeable, and genuinely enthusiastic about sharing the city’s history and culture. She was also very patient and eager to answer my many questions, which made the experience feel personal and engaging rather than rushed or scripted. Idoia is a fantastic guide. Her enthusiasm and love for Colonia really come through in her tour. She is very knowledgeable and happily answered questions on any topic — including the bizarre Buquebus ferry that looks like Sauron’s yacht for sailing around Mordor. She seems to know everyone in town, including the town dogs. She also gave us a great lunch recommendation, a place we would never have found otherwise.
