I enjoyed this day very much! The experience was very nice seeing the beauty of the coast and the planned stops. My guide, Lal, was most kind and knowledgeable. I highly recommend this tour.

Perfect pace...flexible. Great way to see the west and parts of the south side of Sri Lanka 🇱🇰 Jungle Beach, Dutch Port, Tsunami Memorial and Pictures. TY 🙏
I spent a very good and positive day with my guide Lal Kumarage, he was all the time polite, helpful and gentle, all the time gave me a lot of tips during our tour. The tour was interesting, informative and without rush, I could change something during our tour without any difficulties. Thank you and I can recommend this company to provide you in Sri Lanka.
**Sri Lanka Trip Review (From an Indian Traveler's Perspective)** I recently visited Sri Lanka with my family and had a wonderful experience overall. The country is beautiful, peaceful, and filled with breathtaking natural scenery. The roads, tourist attractions, and public places are generally neat and clean, and the local people are polite, friendly, and welcoming to Indian tourists. If you enjoy nature, Sri Lanka is definitely worth visiting. The beaches, mountains, waterfalls, tea plantations, and scenic train routes make it a memorable destination. However, one thing Indian travelers, especially middle-class salaried families, should plan for is the cost. While transportation and accommodation can be reasonable, food and tourist attractions are relatively expensive. For example: * A KFC burger costs around **USD 4**, which feels expensive compared to India. * Entry to many temples can be around **USD 20 per person**. * Elephant safari or elephant-related attractions can cost around **USD 30 per person**. These expenses add up quickly, particularly for families. Another challenge is the food. While Sri Lankan cuisine may appeal to many, we found it quite different from Indian food and not easy to adjust to for every meal. If you're traveling with children or elderly family members, or if you prefer Indian flavors, it's a good idea to carry ready-to-eat meals, snacks, or other packaged food items from India. This can save both money and make the trip more comfortable. Overall, Sri Lanka is a beautiful country with friendly people and amazing landscapes. I would definitely recommend visiting, but I also suggest planning your budget carefully. If you're a middle-class salaried traveler, carrying some food from India and budgeting for sightseeing will help you enjoy the trip without unnecessary stress. **Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐☆ (4/5)** Beautiful destination, warm people, and unforgettable scenery, but be prepared for higher food and attraction costs.
I have done many tours the last few years across many countries and 3 continents and this was by far the best tour I have been on. Kavindu Minipura Was super flexible, kind, entertaining, and humble. He was willing to go the extra mile to give me a great experience. I felt like a friend or a family member not a just a tourist job. If you do this tour and get him you are blessed. Seeing sites is breathtaking but experiencing them is an honour!!
Great disappointment from the company. Nothing informed well in advance and we surprised with the fees of river safari. It was a big money and they forced to do it as it was pre booked. The driver is just a drivers who doesnt talk single word and no enlglish. We felt that tout is just a car ride and we asked for cash back.
Before getting into the details, the most important advice I can give is this: if you book this tour, contact the organiser (Sigiritrip Tours) directly beforehand and get clear confirmation of everything included. This will make more sense as you read on. When booking, I communicated with Sigiritrip Tours via email (sigiritriptours@gmail.com or hello@sigiritriptours.com) and WhatsApp (+94 77 328 0412). One benefit of doing this is that, since my group booked two tours with them, they offered us a 10% discount for booking directly rather than through TripAdvisor. You can also arrange “all-inclusive” options this way, which is worth considering. Before the trip, I clearly outlined the activities we wanted, and Sigiritrip Tours confirmed the following would be included: 1. Boat safari at Madu Lake (including cinnamon island, baby crocodile experience, temple visit with monk blessings, fish massage) 2. Sea Turtle Conservation 3. Unawatuna Beach (including lunch) 4. Galle Fort / Lighthouse 5. Stilt fishing 6. Japanese Peace Pagoda 7. Kalutara Buddhist Temple & Bodhi Tree The Tour Experience DRIVER Our driver, Sugath, was safe and competent on the road. However, there were some issues with coordination at various stops, which affected the overall experience. AHUNGALLA SEA TURTLES CONSERVATION PROJECT There was some confusion on arrival regarding payment, despite us having prepaid. This delayed our entry. That said, the experience itself was excellent. The staff were knowledgeable, and it’s clear they care deeply about the animals. You can hold baby turtles, and they also care for other marine life such as sharks, fish, and eels. Although the TripAdvisor itinerary mentions Kosgoda, Sigiritrip Tours recommended this location instead and I’m glad they did. BOAT SAFARI AT MAADU LAKE This part ran smoothly. We did almost everything promised: cinnamon island visit, holding a baby crocodile, and the fish massage (which was a fun first-time experience). We were also given cinnamon tea and fresh juice, and they kindly allowed us to choose alternatives to king coconut. However, the temple visit and monk blessing did not happen. We were told the monks were unavailable. This highlights why confirming details in advance is so important. GALLE FORT / LIGHTHOUSE A short but pleasant stop. It would have been nice to get some historical context from the driver, but it was still enjoyable for a walk and photos. STILT FISHING Again, there was initial confusion about payment despite everything being prepaid. The experience itself is more of a photo opportunity than traditional fishing. You climb onto stilts and pose with a rod. It’s fun, but brief. Be mindful of clothing, as the big waves can get you wet. JAPANESE PEACE PAGODA – RUMASSALA A simple stop mainly for photos. After removing your shoes and climbing up, you can walk around the pagoda and read inscriptions about Buddhism. UNAWATUNA BEACH (AND LUNCH) This was the biggest issue of the day. The TripAdvisor listing clearly states that lunch at a beachside restaurant is included. However, on the day, we were told lunch was not included. This was particularly frustrating because I had explicitly confirmed this in advance with Sigiritrip Tours. The explanation given was that guests usually prefer to choose their own meals due to varying seafood options. That may be fair, but in that case, the listing should not advertise lunch as included. KALUTHARA BUDDHIST TEMPLE & BODHI TREE Unfortunately, we missed this stop entirely due to time lost earlier in the day, mainly from payment confusion and lack of coordination. While it may be similar to the Peace Pagoda, it was still disappointing to miss something that was part of the confirmed itinerary. OVERALL The activities themselves made for a good day, but the experience was let down by poor organisation, unclear inclusions, and time wasted resolving avoidable issues. If everything had gone according to plan, this would have been an excellent tour. However, the lack of coordination made parts of the day unnecessarily frustrating. Final advice: if you decide to book, contact the organiser directly and get everything clearly confirmed in writing beforehand, especially what is included and paid for.
Was a fun tour especially seeing the sea turtles. Beautiful coast line! Our driver was excellent and flexible!
To start it with it should have stated Galle was about 3 hours from Colombo. The place to meet was unknown to the cruise ship employees even though it said passenger terminal there wasn’t one. A resident offered to call for us and then preceded to ask for a tip. We were the only 2 in the group and in a car not a bus. That concerned us especially since the driver had a very poor command of the English language. He spoke only when spoken to, gave no tour info, and only drove us around. And his driving scared us at times! There were some places that admission was not included and when we heard the prices($40) we declined after paying $185.00 for this tour. There was no internet and we never got any bottled water. There were things included that we never made it to see and when lunch was not included we asked the driver to take us back to the ship. Viator usually does a great job , but this was not one of them.
Wonderful day trip to see Galle and a turtle conservation place with Lal. All communication was excellent, Lal was a knowledgeable, friendly and flexible host. I had a lovely day and really enjoyed my time in southern Sri Lanka.
Our guide was wonderful. We saw everything we wanted and skipped what we didn’t want to see It’s a long day. Make sure you have time.
It is a long day, but Dana made the journey very comfortable and was very helpful. The turtle conservation tour was very interesting. And, whilst initially I was not sure I wanted to do the boat safari, it turned out to be a highlight.
Our day started with excellent communication from our guide Lal as to where we would be collected. He took us on a long and varied tour and was very attentive to our needs. Lal made sure we saw everything described in the itinerary. I think we had a very good overview of Sri Lanka in what was quite a short time as we were coming off a cruise ship. Many thanks.
WE DID NOT SEE THE SALT FISHERMEN. DO NOT DO THIS TRIP FROM COLUMBIO We paid for this tour that included several stops. On meeting the representative (who was simply the taxi driver but was very honest and nice) he said this tour is not possible to complete in full due to the time constraints. the initial stop was 2.5 hours away from the ship in columbo. we only did the boat trip (additional money plus allegator/crocodile hatchery was a tiny new born who was passed around(. we asked the driver to take us back to the ship. the booking stated bottled water, free WiFi, comfortable car...none of which was had
First, our guide was wonderful. We really enjoyed being with him. Unfortunately we were unable to do the tour. I spoke to the person who books the tours and told him we were in port from this time to that time. I asked if we could do this tour within this time period. He sent me a text “note taken”. Never told me the drive alone was 3 hours each way. Told me absolutely nothing about not being able to do the tour. Our guide picked us up as planned and told us we did not have enough time to do the tour. It was very upsetting because we were looking forward to doing this tour since we saw a lot of the places on the amazing race. Instead we had to do a city tour which was no fault of our guide but the owner of this company. So be careful when booking so what happened to us doesn’t happen to you.
We had a wonderful day at Galle! It was quite hot so we did skip a few sights but we enjoyed whatever we had seen. Mr Lal was a great guide. He shared local insights and was very accommodating!
Lal who was our guide added to the beauty and magnificence of all the sites we saw. He was exceptionally personable and made this one of the best stories we had ever been on. He made sure that we were not only delighted with the day overall but with each stop and what made it a once in a lifetime must see and experience. Simply visiting Columbo in Sri Lanka is not enough. Not only must you take this tour you must insist on Lal as your partner and guide.
We had an excellent day trip exploring Southern Sri Lanka from Colombo. kumaragelal was professional, punctual, and incredibly knowledgeable about the country’s history, culture, and hidden gems. He made the entire journey smooth and enjoyable, pointing out important landmarks, sharing interesting stories, and always making sure we were comfortable
Although the content of this trip was very good the guide and vehicle were inadequate. The vehicle was totally unsuitable for four Seniors with one having to squeeze into the back in a child’s seat. The guide spoke very poor English and gave no commentary on what we saw and he was very sleepy on the way back to the cruise ship which made for a white knuckle ride. We had to pay for some of the contents that was noted on the excursion as being included. Just one example was the stilt fisherman, a sight that we were really looking forward to. it became apparent that this trip was not as it should be after speaking to one couple who did the same trip and had an excellent time.
The driver did not follow the itinerary . We Missed the stilt fishermen experience and the lunch at the beach…….. he took us to a restaurant near madu river. The whole experience was spoilt because we did not get what we expected. Not recommended
Excellent trip, gave us an insight into Sri Lanka, our guide Indika looked after us and showed us some great sights from the boat safari to the fisherman on stilts. Thank you
Don’t think I would recommend this tour operator, there was no communication beforehand up to the point of a message from the guide 1 hour before start time. We were in Colombo for 7 hours only visiting off a cruise ship. We choose this tour when back in the UK and thought it sounded great. With limited time this was not a tour suitable for us but operator did not say this, just accepted the booking. When we met our guide and he told us it would be a 3 hours journey to Fort Galle and then 3 hours back to ship, leaving one hour for us… not what was suitable for us. The operator should have seen this and suggested another tour, perhaps just of Colombo city. Our guide was called Lal and he was not the most communicative of guides, it appears not to be his fault and he did try but we cut short the tour so only spent 5 hours in the car and 15 minutes at the turtle sanctuary. Worst tour ever had through Viator 😢
It was a horrible experience, they didn’t fulfill their promised schedule. We had a chance to go to the river and it was the most depressing thing I have ever gone to on my life. The tour guide has nothing to say except talking about my country and corona!!! Even when I ask, he doesn’t have the answers.. definitely I wouldn’t recommend it.
Had an amazing time. The driver was perfect and made extra stops. I got everything i wanted and more. I would highly recommend
I recently took the Southern Sri Lanka Sightseeing Day Trip from Colombo, and it turned out to be one of the most enriching and enjoyable experiences of my visit. The itinerary was wonderfully diverse, blending nature, tradition, and history in a way that felt both relaxed and deeply engaging. The day began with a boat safari—peaceful and scenic, though we didn’t spot any wildlife during the ride itself. But nature had other plans: en route, we saw plenty of animals in the wild, including a large monitor lizard that boldly crossed the freeway right in front of our car! It was such an unexpected and thrilling sight that it more than made up for the quiet riverbanks. The cinnamon extraction demonstration was a highlight. Watching the process up close gave me a new appreciation for the craftsmanship behind something I’d always taken for granted. The mask museum was equally fascinating, offering a glimpse into the vibrant storytelling traditions of the region. At the turtle rehabilitation center, I was moved by the care and dedication shown to these gentle creatures. It was heartening to see conservation in action. Then came Fort Galle—majestic, atmospheric, and full of stories. Walking through its colonial architecture with the sea breeze in the air felt like stepping into another time. The live stilt fishing demonstration was a rare treat. I’d seen photos before, but witnessing it in person was something else entirely—graceful, quiet, and deeply rooted in tradition. Throughout the day, my guide was exceptional. Not only was the air-conditioned car clean and comfortable, but he also surprised me with a selection of local bananas (each with its own flavor and texture!) and a refreshing sour orange drink that locals love. These small gestures made the experience feel personal and authentic. If you're looking for a day trip that goes beyond sightseeing and offers a genuine connection to Sri Lanka’s culture and natural beauty, I wholeheartedly recommend this one.
Mr Lal was informative and answered a lot of our questions. He is the best guide, for this tour. Made for a memorable trip to Galle. He is also a safe driver!
Great experience , long day but worth it , our driver ?Lal ( hope I’ve spelt correctly ) was great , catered to whatever we wanted to do , extremely knowledgable , enjoyed the river safari and Galle
It’s too expensive and costed me around $300 totally. The boat tour is so expensive so better avoid this tour from this company.
Excellent day trip for someone who wants to get a taste of the South in a few hours. I truly loved the trip, especially Madu and Galle. As a solo traveler, one of my biggest concerns was safety, especially after having had a few bad experiences in Colombo. The guide/driver (Kevin) was super cordial, respectful and made me feel very comfortable at all moments. Bring LKR (not dollars) to pay for a few of the tickets and a good camera!
Fantastic trip for the day, the itinerary was edited to allow us to experience some things we’d prefer to do instead of what was there. Highly personalised, great guide who gave us advice and helped at every point.
It was an amazing experience! I see lot of places, I’ ve learn lot of things, I buy best quallity cinnamon. I saw how it’s made. Kevin is a good driver, a helper guide, I felt safety and spoiled. Thank you!
Our tour guide, Mr Ramesh was very resourceful, patient and meticulous in handling our tour from Negombo to all the way to Colombo. He tailored made our itinerary and planned routes which were less travelled by others. His bubbly and warm personality made the trip more enjoyable and fun as he shared his vast knowledge about Sri Lanka rich history, the political situations, their cultures and practices. Thank you Ramesh for making our journey enriching and we left your country with good memories. We will definitely share this with our friends back home.
Our driver was Shabir and he was very knowledgeable and accomodating. He brought us to many places between Colombo and Galle and made the trip very enjoyable for us both. The turtle sanctuary was the highlight for us! Just of note, there is a good few hidden costs with this so make sure you bring cash - river safari cruise, turtle sanctuary are all additional aswell as the gem mine (there is no entrance fee just encouragement to buy products). All in all we thoroughly enjoyed it. Thank you Shabir!
An unforgettable day in Galle thanks to Glen! We loved every moment - from the heartwarming turtle sanctuary and exciting boat safari to watching the iconic stilt fishermen in action. Glen, our great guide and driver, made the trip even better with his friendly vibe, smooth driving, and great local tips. Everything was perfectly organised, stress-free, and so much fun. Absolute 5-star experience!
This was a very nice tour, but also very long due to the distance from the port. Overall it was good, except that the boat ride safari, in our opinion is not worth the cost or the time. Very little is seen. Also recommend that for additional costs not included in the price of the tour, information be provided in the tour description and identify where credit card is not accepted, so that sufficient cash is available.
If you limited for time and wish to discover sri lanka this is ideal tour. Whilst a couple of areas we could have spent more time in, it gaves us a good insight to those sights.
Bidu is amazing! We saw everything and he was so accommodating. He’s a fabulous driver and did not stop short of making sure that we had an amazing day. We highly recommend.
Vidu, our driver, arrived in plenty of time and took us to so many interesting places between Colombo and Galle. He was chatty and knowledgeable. His driving was excellent and he knew where we were going and made sure we were well prepared and looked after. This was a very full day but if you’re limited on time you will see an awful lot in one day. Would recommend the tour but most of all Vidu,
A great way to have a quick one-day our to Galle and surrounding areas from Colombo. Pickup from our hotel in Colombo was on time. The river safari and turtle conservation center costs are not included but both are good attractions, especially the river safari, which is very enjoyable. The car was clean and spacious and available privately for our family for the whole trip. Our guide Indika was very friendly, knowledgeable, helpful, and very resourceful. He never rushed us at any location. Suggest to take the earliest possible tour time, as we started at 8am and by the time we ended at the last attraction (Jungle beach) it was already sunset. Highly recommended if you have limited time to spare.
The tour covers a large area. I have seen many things. The tour guide was knowledgeable and helpful.
What a wonderful day. We spent the day with Glen who is very friendly and well informed. We chose not to do the turtles or the boat ride as we wanted to take our time at the port of Galle. There was also a quick stop off to a Buddhist temple that we spotted. The flexibility and the patience was well notice. Our second tour from this company and we are very happy with the service. A great introduction to life in Sri Lanka.
This day was amazing!!! Our guide vidu was such a fun person and shared his love for Sri Lanka through history & stories & pointing out landmarks! Highly recommend this tour! We had so much fun
Excellent day trip with loads to see and experience. Our driver, Deshan spoke very good English and pointed things out along the way. Very courteous and polite. Drove safely.
Driver was on time and car was clean and safe. This tour was a great option to get out of Colombo for the day and see Southern Sri Lanka. Loved the stop at the marine life rescue — very interesting to learn about the important conservation work occurring in Sri Lanka. Drove by the Dutch fort which was massive and filled with colonial history. Lunch was at a delicious seafood restaurant— highly recommend the lobster and the crab. Tour guide was accommodating to stop for souvenirs that we wanted to buy. Great day trip option!
The tour describes 4 stops I would recommend choose wisely as there will a tooo much to do it all justice I would recommend skip turtles and boat ride if you are more interested in Galle fort and stilt fisherman Everything was rushed and fisherman were abut to go home when we got there at 530pm and then still had to drive back to Colombo So it is not 8-10hour tour We had shortens what we did on boat ride and were quick at turtles yet still ran very late and had to rush around the fort
We have had a brilliant day with our guide Gihan. Nothing was too much trouble and he took us to places we specifically wanted to see. The turtle hatchery are doing amazing conservation work and need our support. Galle a beautiful historic place Fishing on stilts was a once in a lifetime experience Jungle beach beautiful with excellent food in the beach bar. Would highly recommend thanks again Gihan for making it a great day. booking through Viator very smooth process
Brilliant day, very helpful and knowledgeable driver, who tailored the trip to suit our requests. I would recommend this trip to anyone
I enjoyed an amazing day travelling to the southern part of Sri Lanka with Indika as my tour guide. I saw a great deal in one day. Indika was a very experienced driver and tour guide who went out of his way to accommodate my requests. We also enjoyed a fabulous meal in Galle Fort area. I highly recommend this tour!!
This was a very disappointing experience leaving us grateful to have made it back to the ship before it sailed. The day started well. Our guide met us at the port as arranged. It was a private air conditioned car so we were pleased and we set off. He told us first stop was Galle fort. Excellent we thought. It was a long drive but he was chatty and all was going well. We arrived at Galle and he told us to have a look around and meet him back at the car in 40 mins. That started alarm bells as we expected him to be a guide not just a taxi, however we did as told and walked around the fort. 40 mins is not long to be there. It’s well worth a visit but go for the day or at least a few hours. Back in the car he then started checking the itinerary to see where next and to consult google maps. He admitted he hadn’t worked that area before so how he was supposed to be a guide was unclear. We went to jungle beach, having taken wrong turnings and finally asking for directions. Lovely but not worth the trek if you are only going to take a photo. Next lunch. It took 1 hour 15 mins and further wrong turnings before he found the restaurant, during which time he told us we wouldn’t see the stilt fishermen as they were all off as it was a holy day (later saw other peoples photos of the stilt fishermen so this was clearly a lie). The lunch was good. Next river safari. Finally found it and as we were about to board the boat we were asked for 100 dollars for a 40 min boat ride. We refused and at this point lost our temper about how bad the day had been. We finally agreed to pay 60 dollars so that the day wasn’t a complete failure. It was an interesting boat ride but sort the price when you book. Finally turtle hatchery. Driver announced we didn’t have time for this but there was something similar just round the bend. It was a sea life centre! At this point we insisted that he checked Maps to see how long it would take to get back to the ship. We were 2 hours away, it was 4:30pm and the ship sailed at 7. Having to convince him we needed to go straight away he drove erratically to the point where he got pulled over by the police and we had to convince the police to let him keep going. I’ve never been so relieved to get back on board ship. This was a taxi not a tour and the driver failed us by not pre checking routes, understanding the area and generally giving a damn. I have given it two stars rather than one as the destinations were good. The bit that needs to change is a tour guide not a driver and a boat trip inclusive price or at least an indication of expected cost. It could probably be improved by focusing on 3 things rather than trying to do everything.
Shaminder our guide and driver picked us up at the port. He greeted us with a big smile. His car was nicely air conditioned and very comfortable. We had a instant connection with him. He drove us to all the places listed plus accommodated our request to pick up a quick lunch and washroom break. He knew we had to be back at the ship at a certain time and assured us that it would not be a problem. Shaminda shared his wealth of knowledge with us and we learned a lot during this tour. We also had a lot of laughs along the way. It was like touring with a friend. The cruise was breathtaking and we loved the turtle sanctuary. We ended the day with trying stilt fishing which was fun. All in all we had a great day filled with wonderful memories. Thank you Shaminda!
