This lake is popular with domestic tourists who enjoy strolling the footpaths, taking out a swan-shaped pedal boat (30 minutes Rs 500) or trotting around on a pony (15 minutes Rs 300). However be warned that jet skis and speedboats disturb the peace on weekends, and during holiday times expect big crowds and funfairs. There are picnic tables, a small restaurant and a snack bar. Boat hire is from the smaller adjoining lake on the opposite side of the road from the main lake.
Rivers, as they flow over uneven ground or down mountains, often split into tributaries or form waterfalls. Sometimes two tributaries of the same river may form twin waterfalls very close to each other as the water spills down cliffs and rocks. However, it is quite uncommon for the tributaries to combine after forming the waterfalls making a Y shape.Ramboda Falls is 109 m (358 ft) high[ and 11th highest waterfall in Sri Lanka and 729th highest waterfall in the world. It is situated in Pussellawa area, on the A5 highway at Ramboda Pass. It formed by Panna Oya which is a tributary of Kothmale Oya. Altitude of the falls is 945 m (3,100 ft) above sea level.
This is one of the country’s most attractive, and best-maintained, town parks. A stroll around its paths, past manicured lawns, is a pleasure. The park comes alive with flowers around March to May, and August and September. It’s also home to quite a number of hill-country bird species, including the Kashmir flycatcher, Indian pitta and grey tit.
These attractive gardens, 10km southeast of Nuwara Eliya, are a peaceful retreat. Highlights include a fine rose garden, a Japanese garden, an orchid collection, cedars and giant cypresses. However, the entrance fee is very steep for foreigners. Planting season is between January and late March and at these times the gardens don’t really look their best.

The view is amazing and we stopped at cool places. A good replacement of the train ride. Driver was a kind person. Overall I would recommend.
Solo traveller from Australia. I just had an excellent day tour down to Nuwara Eliya!!! Laxman was very accommodating and allowed me to edit the itinerary slightly. My driver Chanaa was knowledge and super friendly, he made the car rides and the site visits very enjoyable. The highlights were the Herbal Garden (unexpectedly), the Ramboda waterfall (you can get in the water towards the top, refreshing after the climb) and the tea factory. A very reasonable price too, can recommend.
Highly recommend Chanak he took us around Ella and to nuwara eliya. He was extremely helpful and a very safe driver. He was with us for 2 full days and explained all the sightseeing views and his recommendations for food places were as per our requests! Chanak of Lux Tours Lanka is highly recommended driver and your expert!
We had an amazing day! Our driver, Chanakya, arrived 15 minutes early, patiently waited, and provided a detailed briefing on how our day would unfold. He presented us with various options, explained them thoroughly, and let us choose what suited us best. Chanakya was an excellent driver and guide for our journey from Kandy to Ella. We started at 10 AM, visited five spots along the way, and arrived in Ella around 5 PM. We were so impressed with his service that we requested him again for our trip from Ella to Mirissa!
We took pictures and enjoyed. Driver Jack was helpful in navigating the place safely. He helped to climb the waterfall in extraordinary way.
Our trip in Sri Lanka is one for the books! A naturally beautiful country, the locals cared for their nature, culture and heritage for the rest of the world to see. We travelled with Lux Tours in 2 days between Kandy, Peradeniya, Labukele and Nuwara Eliya visiting and getting blessings fr the temples, learning about tea production, beautiful waterfalls, trying many fresh fruits on the way, experiencing nature in all it's glory and finally sipping fresh tea with the plantation in front of you. Mr Lakshman and Indikat fr Lux Travel are just the best guide to take you with their vast knowledge and passion about Sri Lanka and everything in it. Not to mention, we felt cared for and safe at the same time! Excellent service and highly recommended.
In November 2023, we used the service of Lux tour during our 3-days stay in Kandy. Very helpful - sometimes overly helpful; lol - to show the beauty of Kandy and the nearby towns including Nuwara Eliya. Their service is 1) affordable in terms of budget, 2) never stop to help and most importantly 3) very very kind - especially our guide/driver Mr. Kesara. You will feel very comfortable and taste the famous Sri Lankan hospitality with them.
Had a fantastic two days with Laxman. We went on a tour around Kandy seeing all the important sights and Laxman was v thorough in his explanation of the history around the area. Day two he took us to Little England and we stopped at various food places to sample the local food. We also visited a tea plantation. The scenery was breathtaking and we stopped at strategic points for some memorable photos. We would highly recommend Lux Tours as Laxman is a v engaging person with tremendous knowledge and is also an amazing tuc tuc driver! Thanks again Laxman for making our stay in Kandy v enjoyable. Elaine and Neil from Leeds, England.
Having already had a fantastic day tour in Kandy with Laxman, we booked him again for a trip to Nuwara Eliya in his tuk tuk. He set up a wonderful itenery based on our wishes which included a tour of a tea plantation and a real wood carving factory. The scenery we went through was breath taking and he made numerous photo stops and organised fruit tasting. Laxman is kind, friendly and incredibly knowledgeable about the area. It was a wonderful trip and Laxman then organised great seats on train to Ella. One of our highlights in Sri Lanka!
The ride with chanaka was very pleasant. He is a very good driver and was very friendly. He also helped us buy the train tickets at the station. I would highly recommend it.
What a wonderful experience! We were very lucky to meet Laxman, who took us with his Tuktuk for free as he happened to have to go in the same direction. But Laxman wasn’t just a driver – he was a true travel companion! During the trip he showed us some beautiful detours that we would never have otherwise discovered, and finally took us to a breathtaking park where we learned a lot about natural medicine. Although we didn't pay him anything for the ride, he went to incredible lengths to show us the best sides of his homeland. We asked him if he knew anyone who could drive us on our way to Nuwara Eliya and he organized everything perfectly for us. We were picked up on time and started the day with a visit to the temple in Kandy, where Laxman introduced us to the history of the place with a lot of passion and knowledge. It was fascinating how deeply he immersed himself in culture and traditions and took us on this journey through history. After our visit to the temple we continued to Nuwara Eliya – and here Chanaka drove us. Chanaka’s driving style came into its own here. Not only did he drive safely and quietly, but throughout the journey he made sure we got to the train on time. We always felt in the best hands and could really enjoy the trip without worrying about anything. Laxman and Chanaka have accompanied us not only as drivers, but also as real friends and contacts. Their hospitality and warmth have made our trip unforgettable. We can really highly recommend these two – they exceeded our expectations!
The tour with Lux Tours was wonderful, we could learn a lot about the country. We have seen many places we would not have come to without LuxTours. Thank you so much! Absolute recommendation
