The Most Visited temple in the city, the Gangaramaya Temple which organizes Sri Lanka’s largest and the most colourful Vesak festival annually, has a history of 120 years. It was established in 1885 by Venerable Hikkaduwe Sri Sumangala Nayaka Thera at a time when Buddhist and cultural resurgence were much needed as the country was under the colonial rule. The area that was once a swamp beside the Beira Lake, has now turned to be an iconic complex which consists of the temple, the assembly hall in the breathtaking lake and the vocational training institute. Earlier, devotees had to cross the Beira Lake on a boat in order to reach the then small temple which was converted to what is today by the Devundara Sri Jinaratana Nayake Thera, a pupil of Venerable Hikkaduwe Sri Sumangala Nayaka Thera who appointed him as the chief incumbent of the temple.
The Galle Face Green, which is immediately south of Fort, is a long, thin park facing the Indian Ocean which fills up with food stalls and locals on weekday and weekend evenings as it is a popular meeting place to relax. A narrow arm of Beira Lake separates this district from Slave Island, a peninsula where the Dutch imprisoned slaves from their Asian colonies. Galle Road, Colombo’s long seafront boulevard runs south from Galle Face Green, eventually becoming the main coastal road to Galle and the Deep South. It’s always crowded with traffic and short on charm, but as the city’s main thoroughfare it also has some of the best shopping malls and a number of important buildings, including the official residence of Sri Lanka’s premier, the US Embassy, the British High Commission and some of the city’s top five star hotels.
Start your private tour in the late afternoon with pickup from your hotel in Colombo. Step into your specialized mode of transport: a convertible tuk-tuk, each holding up to two passengers. These comfortable three-wheelers include onboard coolers to store your snacks and drinks; two-way radios; and wet-weather covers and umbrellas provided for bad weather conditions. You can even bring music to plug into the high-end sound system. Your tour will take up to 4 hours to complete and combines sightseeing with food stops so that you can both see the city and taste its cuisine. The food safari comes with several perks, namely alcoholic and nonalcoholic drinks within the tuk-tuk itself, and your guide will take you to the city's entertainment hotspots. Afterward, you will be dropped off at your hotel. Or, if you'd prefer to continue your evening, your driver-guide can provide you with information on the best venues and drop you off at your next destination.
The Pettah Floating Markets are located on Bastian Mawatha in Pettah, a neighborhood in Colombo, Sri Lanka, and consist of 92 trade stalls, with a number of the stalls established on boats on Beira Lake. The floating market serves as a tourist attraction selling local produce and local handicraft.
Every architectural square inch of this monument is filled with lavish symbols of the island’s rich history and political freedom. At the entrance to the building is an imposing statue of D.S. Senanayake, Sri Lanka’s first prime minister, surrounded by four menacing stone lions with protruding eyes. These feral guardians were recreated from the lion statues of the 13th century Yapahuwa kingdom. The most prominent feature of the monument, the assembly hall, was inspired by the “Magul Maduwa,” the royal court of the King of Kandy, the last kingdom on the island. Incidentally, it was at the Magul Maduwa that the Kandyan chieftains handed over the island’s sovereignty to the British throne in 1815.
The Old Colombo Dutch Hospital is considered to be the oldest building in the Colombo Fort area dating back to the Dutch colonial era in Sri Lanka. It is now a heritage building and a shopping and dining precinct.

I booked colombo tuk tuk safari from Lakpura. I have great experience for this activity.Driver is very friendly. thank for lakpura team.
We could arrange the Tuk-Tuk safari at very short notice. It was worth every minute. Our driver and guide, Mr Malli, was excellent: he explained well, drive safely and is very very kind. During the tour, which actually lasted longer than scheduled, he took us around many places in Colombo. The tour ended with a tasty Sri Lankan dinner. Many thanks for the great experience.
Unfortunately no tuk tuk but an excellent driver in a private car he was great took us everywhere including some extra places definitely a GREAT experriene
Colombo is a very clean city the local people are very friendly & welcoming, we went to temples, a market that unfortunately wasn't very good but our guide & driver Chritopher made up for that by taking us to another place which was ok,, we sampled King coconut drink which was refreshing & not what we expected Sri lanka is a beautiful country its a pity we didn't have more time there as had to be back on ship but hopefully we'll be visiting sri lanka in the future, would recommend a trip to colombo & further on this beautiful island.
Dinuka did a stellar job in explains the history of Sri Lanka, it’s current state of affairs all while exploring the sites, sounds, smells and tastes of Colombo. Thank you for a great experience.
The tuk tuk safari really exceeded our expectations. Within 4 hours we were shown almost all of Colombo's sights and also given an insight into several different temples. Furthermore, we could taste the traditional delicacies of Sri Lanka and all this was included in the initial payment, which was really anything but expensive! I can really recommend this tour to everyone and would love to do tours like this in other cities as well, because you get to know the city really well! Our Driver Dinuka was really nice and explained everything in detail if we wanted it, I never met such a great driver before!!
Fantastic experience. Easy to book. Friendly people. Dhinuka took me to interesting places and also tailored the tour to show me spots I would be interested in given my work. Enjoyable afternoon!
The tuck tuck tour was not at all as stated. We were two couples travelling together and had 2 tuk tuk. They were nothing special and one wasn’t working properly and had to be pushed started. The only food we were offered were hopper pancakes with eggs and warm water. One of the drivers was a guide but the other one had nothing to say. The tour was very expensive and disappointing. We realize Sri Lanka is suffering right now but that shouldn’t be at the expense of the Tourist.
City tour by tuk tuk was a great experience, our driver Dinuka was a wealth of information and spoke English really well. Would recommend.
Booked at short notice - but really glad we did. Great communications, the driver arrived on time and was very knowledgeable. A great way to see the parts of Colombo other tours miss. Good fun too.
What better way to get unique insights into the dynamic city than this tour? Our 3-4 hour Tuk Tuk tour was personalized, convenient, and most important of all informative. We had to make numerous adjustment before the tour due to scheduling conflicts, and Roshan obliged us the whole time through and through, without impugning it against us. We were picked up directly from our hotel by our guide, and he took us to all the wonderful sights of Colombo: From the Temples (Buddhist and Hindu), to the inner-city, and the Town Halls. We were given thorough information on each place we visited, and at no point in time were we made to feel uncomfortable. Indebted and thankful to Roshan.
Friendly, informed and a fantastic way to see both sides (the well planned and new Vs the old and less well planned) of Colombo - I highly recommend this tour.
A tuk tuk tour is a must in Colombo. It is one of the best ways to get around the city which can get very busy at time. This tour was complete, we saw most of the sights and the driver was very flexible with what to see and accommodating. Booking a tour like this is a good way to go, if you pick up a tuk tuk in front of the hotel, you might find yourself at jewelry shop or other shop for an unscheduled stop. My driver was professional, we just stuck to the schedule and I had a great tour. Good way to introduce yourself to the city.
Yes I would recommend this tour to help you find the most interesting things in Colombo. The temples are amazing. Morning prayer time at the Hindu temple definitely better than when no one is there. Very cute resident monkey. Get ready to be stared at in the gaudy Tuktuk but it’s all part of the fun.
Would highly recommend this experience. So much fun, our tuk tuk driver/guide had so much banter, so funny and we really had an amazing time! As well as seeing the main sights, he also took us through the little roads and we visited coffee, tea and spice markets. We ended with a taste of traditional Sri Lankan cuisine. This has been one of the highlights of my trip!
Fun times.! Excellent way to see the city sites.. music, drinks, good food and good times. A must do while in Colombo.
Well, after a few problems with aviator trying to cancel my trip, I called the company and asked if it was still available. They said yes and so I booked again and within two hours I was on my little tour. We started at 4pm when I was greeted at my hotel by Big Papa with a floral garland and a coconut! From there we spent more than 4 hours going to some big sights. Big Papa knew his stuff. He spent the time answering my questions and explaining the historical aspects of each place. I mentioned at the beginning of the tour that I was hungry, so we went straight to a weekend market where I was fed well. I also needed to book a train ticket, so he helped me with that! He told me all about his family and life. There was a variety of food and all from very local places; which was the aim of the tour! I would highly recommend this is anyone who wants to see Colombo and taste some food before going it solo. He even recommended some things for me to do the next day! Thank you so so much!

Great little tour - perfect way to see the city! Was a fun evening!

Did this tour on our first night in the city. The driver was safe, friendly and knowledgeable and made it an unforgettable experience. We tried some delicious local delicacies and saw all the major attractions in about 4 and a half hours. All food and drink was included in the price, also including a tea tasting session which was very good. Would highly recommend this trip.

We had an awesome tour with our competent drivers. We had already been on a sightseeing tour, but our drivers showed us some very different places - very fine service. Later we had dinner in a place you are not likely to find by yourself - what a very special, exciting experience. We can highly recommend this tour. Try it. Sysser and friend from Denmark

Our guide did a fantastic job showing us the sites of Colombo and surrounds in his unique tuk tuk. We thoroughly enjoyed this tour, one of the best experiences we had on our trip overseas to Sri Lanka and couldnt recommend this tour more highly to everyone! A very pleasant experience! Thanks for such a great time!

Really a lot of fun with our driver Big Papa and Bob Marley. The food was great, and the trip through Colombo was amazing!

Wow. Just brilliant. If you only have four hours in Colombo, this is how you should spend it. We had a fun and informative evening, TASTY too, with Big Papa, as we made our way around Colombo in his pimped out Tuk-Tuk learning about the sights of the city and tasting some of its delicacies. Faultless and a must do.

Leonardo Dicaprio was our tour guide and he was AWESOME!
There was a mix-up with which tour we booked and he was told we were doing a city tour and not a food tour, but he quickly called and made the change with his management.
Leonardo did take us sight-seeing around the city a little dropping us by a temple and then showing us a lot of the sites, before starting the food part of our tour.
The tour began with coconut drinks in real coconuts and then we went to the outdoor market area and were served fresh mango drinks. We joined up with another small group, which was a lot of fun.
We then went to a tea house and my brother bought some expensive white teas.
After that we went to a restaurant and each got 3 egg hoppers sweet, spicy and plain.
We were supposed to go somewhere next but got sidetracked when a motorcyclist crashed. The driver was okay, but our driver and my brother who I was traveling with got out to help. That was near the Arcade Independence Square - where a beauty pageant was being filmed for TV.
When we were finished watching, we were supposed to go for dinner, but we were stuffed from the hoppers and a really bad rain storm had started and we were very nervous in the tuk tuk. Our driver was very confident in getting us around safely, but since we do not have that kind of storms back home, we begged to go back to our hotel. Leonardo felt terrible and offered to bring us our dinner to-go but we'd eaten enough and just wanted to get in from the rain.
All in all, it was a fantastic experience!!

Great trip to the city of Colombo! We visited the main sights and temples with our really nice guide, he also answered all our questions patiently. We could taste tea/coffee/spices. On arrival we were surprised with 2 delicious coconuts. At Tuk Tuk there was water, beer and snacks for us. At the end of the tour we had dinner – incredibly exciting and very very very delicious 😊 We also booked a transport from Negombo to Colombo, which also worked without any problems. It was really fun and I can only recommend the tour to everyone!
