Mandarina Colombo

We arrived in Colombo for our first night and were already so taken with the hotel and its service. From the concierge and reception to the welcome drinks and bellboys, everyone was genuinely warm and hospitable. The level of service honestly felt like that of a five- or even six-star hotel. Our first room was exceptionally spacious, with lovely aesthetics and a layout that made it feel very comfortable. However, I did feel that the upkeep and attention to detail in housekeeping could be better. The carpet, in particular, felt rather dusty, almost as though it had accumulated a thick layer of dust, and the curtains, bathroom and some of the walls could have done with more thorough cleaning. It would probably pass as clean to most guests, and I wouldn’t disagree that it was generally presentable, but for someone particularly discerning about cleanliness, these little things were noticeable. The pool was lovely, with pleasant views from different sides, although much of the seafront view has since been obstructed by newer buildings. This wasn’t a concern for us, as we weren’t expecting a beach resort. The pool deck was pleasant enough, although personally, I would have preferred the poolside toilets to be a little more discreetly positioned. The restaurant’s ambience was fairly modest in terms of decor, but the service more than made up for it. And the food! I had the fish and chips twice, and they were absolutely marvellous. Perfectly juicy on the inside and lightly crispy on the outside, accompanied by a lovely salad and fries. Just recalling it makes me hungry all over again! The breakfast buffet was another highlight, with a tremendous variety of dishes, and everything we tried was delicious. There was so much to choose from that I probably only managed to sample about 60% of it! We loved our stay so much that, after travelling around Sri Lanka for a week, we returned to Colombo and immediately booked the same hotel again. The combination of wonderful hospitality, great food, excellent service and very reasonable pricing made it an easy choice. I have to say, I was initially prepared to overlook some of the housekeeping shortcomings in our first room, as we were only staying one more night before flying out of Sri Lanka. But what happened next was a lovely surprise. Without us having to mention anything, we were assigned another room on the same floor, just across the corridor and a couple of doors away from our original one. What a difference! This room was absolutely spotless. Everything looked, felt and even smelled fresh and new, including the bathroom, which was immaculate. I also happened to prefer its layout, with the kitchenette neatly separated from the rest of the room by the bathroom. It was a wonderful way to end our stay, and we genuinely appreciated the attention to detail. The downstairs café deserves a mention too. Great variety, lovely pastries and, of course, those welcome drinks that we enjoyed so much. There was just something about the whole experience that left us wanting more. We want to return to Colombo, and I can already say that this will be our hotel of choice each time we do. Thank you to the entire team for making both our stays so enjoyable. Had a lovely experience at Mandarin Hotel, especially visiting the rooftop restaurant for their high tea. The overall atmosphere was really pleasant, making it a great place to spend a relaxing afternoon with friends or family. The rooftop setting adds a nice touch, with a beautiful view and a calm environment away from the usual city rush. The high tea itself was definitely one of the highlights. There was a good variety of food, and everything we tried was tasty and well-presented. The quality and portion of the food were quite satisfying, and considering the overall experience, I felt that the high tea was worth the price. It is a good option for anyone looking for something a little more special than a regular café visit. Another major plus point is the infinity pool. The pool area adds to the overall appeal of the hotel and makes the rooftop experience feel more like a mini staycation. Even if you are only visiting for high tea, the pool and rooftop atmosphere make the place more enjoyable and give you the opportunity to relax and take in the surroundings. The service was also pleasant overall, and the environment was clean and comfortable. The combination of good food, rooftop ambience, the infinity pool and the overall hotel atmosphere makes Mandarin Hotel a nice place for a casual gathering, celebration, or relaxing afternoon. Overall, I had a very enjoyable experience and would definitely consider visiting again, especially for the rooftop setting and high tea. A good spot if you want good food with a relaxing atmosphere and a little extra experience beyond just dining.

It was an excellent experience. All the staff from the bell boys to the front desk to Chathumi at the rooftop restaurant were outstanding. Mahesh was so professional and the perfect fit for high level manager. This is a jewel in the middle of Colombo. Keep up the great work. Thank you!
