The hotel is great overall. Location right next to the cathedral is amazing. But I experienced a few annoyances that hurt the experience for me. Wifi in the hotel was completely unusable, it worked only very early in the morning and was still extremely slow - signal was great but it seems like infrastructure behind it was lacking. And breakfast is great, huge selection, only if service could remember my order, every single day I ordered "three scrambled eggs, bacon and avocado" and one day got 1 egg, another one I didn't get a bacon, then avocado - even when they wrote it down.
Absolutely beautiful hotel with great personal service. It is located right near the train station, which is very convenient. The rooms are spacious and clean with everything that you could possibly need. The beds and pillows were very comfortable. I love being able to have great coffee in the room. The breakfast was very diverse with incredible service.
Absolutely beautiful hotel with excellent service. I was pleasantly surprised to find live music in the winter garden during the afternoon and evening, which made our coffee and pastries experience special. I especially appreciated that the hotel could lend me a 220V-120V voltage converter so that I could use my Dyson hairdryer from abroad. I also love that the hotel provided sparking water in the gym. Besides the overwhelming experience of stepping outside to a crowded area, the location is fantastic. It’s a short stroll to both fine restaurants and fast food cravings, as well as museums like the chocolate museum.
Beautiful hotel, great staff. Terrace a highlight. Food at Hanse Stube is good but could be slightly more memorable but nice elements. Rooms slightly dated sadly and overall some parts of the hotel need investment. The main entrance outside needs a clean and update and some of the interior elements could be brought into 2026. Even so, the hotel has a charm and the staff are very kind. Very clean and elements reminiscent of Paris luxury. A couple of changes and this could be among the top tier hotels in Western Europe.
My family and I were doing a 4 week long Europe trip when I booked our stay at Excelsior. This hotel by far exceeds any hospitality of any other we stayed in during our trip.
We are a very simplistic family look wise, but we enjoy a nice place to rest our head when traveling. We never felt uncomfortable or out of place, and Excelsior over delivered.
From the small touches for our 4 year old such as a welcome teddy bear, hygiene kit, and a chosen time for warm milk before bed, to the immediate welcome and assistance from the bellhop and desk representative, Annika - everything was just great. I really enjoyed the welcome card and snacks after a long trip.
The mini bar had a few things but most notably a great apple cider and milk for coffee. The breakfast buffet catered to many preferences. The bed was superior, and the view of the cathedral is something I will never forget. Everyone we encountered in the hotel was helpful and welcoming.
We will definitely be back and recommend to anyone.
