Five star all the way! The is a 1326 venue with all the history and charm you could imagine. The comfort of the rooms is only eclipsed by the beauty of the grounds and the hotel amenities, and the amazing staff. The grounds were immense and so peaceful to walk. From the front desk, to the restaurant, to the Bamboo Spa - just amazing staff. The breakfast buffet was fantastic and we loved the “made to order” omelettes. The gym is a bit small, so focus on getting your steps in via walking. Big beautiful pool area. The town with all the history and restaurants and bars is about a 30 min walk and we did it all day and night. The hotel bar/pub is elegant and the restaurant - Arcadas, is great. This is a historic and epic stay. We wish we had more days here. VictorB

This hotel is worth every penny. It is definitely on the slightly pricier side for Coimbra, but it was absolutely worth it. Everything about our stay was excellent — the clean room and fresh sheets, the pool, the welcome drink, the breakfast, and especially the smiles and warm service from every staff member we met. What really made the stay special was the guided tour of the gardens. The guide explained the history and stories of Pedro and Inês, which gave the property so much more meaning. It was one of those experiences that you wouldn’t get from simply staying at a regular hotel. If I had to find one small complaint, it would be the double bed. Ours was made up of two single beds, and you could feel the gap in the middle. Perhaps I’m being a little picky, but that was really the only thing I could find to complain about. Overall, we absolutely loved our stay. I would definitely recommend spending a night or two here if you are visiting Coimbra. For us, it was one of the highlights of our stay in the city.
Sadly we stayed only one night in this delightful hotel but the whole experience was delightful. It's a historic building set in a most beautiful garden and comes with its own legend about a tragic love affair which was explained to us when we checked in. We arrived early and so had to wait for our room - but with a walk around the garden and some downtime in the cool, plush sitting rooms, time didn't drag. Our room was large, airy and cool and had a small outdoor patio. The hotel has a formal restaurant with outside seating. Food was delicious and service was first class. There is also a bar and a more casual restaurant should you prefer. The breakfast buffet is generous and service was excellent. We made use of the good gym, spa and outdoor pool.
Exactly what you'd expect from SLH — and then some. It's part of the Small Luxury Hotels group, so the 5-star service, amenities, and ambiance were all on point — but what really stood out was how understated and private it felt. Perfect for a discreet traveler who values quality over flash. The building dates back to the 14th century, which is wild — old-world charm with seriously plush touches. We had a corner room with a private outdoor garden and loved it. Turndown service at night was a nice little ritual, and the former Michelin restaurant? Absolutely worth it. Fancy but not pretentious. Two pools, spa and gym. If you know, you know. This place gets it. Quiet, beautiful, and effortlessly luxurious. Highly recommend.
I agree with some other comments that this is definitely not a 5* hotel, more like 3*. It's a historic building with nice gardens and attentive staff. However, the room I had was nothing special with a mould smell and in need of renovation. The gym and the indoor pool were very basic and looked neglected. The breakfast was decent but nothing extraordinary. I did enjoy the water running outside of my room, kept the window open for a nice water sound to sleep with at night. I don't regret staying here but I expected more for the price tag and 5*.
