This is an impressive museum, filled with so many interesting things. You can and will spend hours here. It was easy to get to via public transportation. I had prebought my tickets online, which was easy. I was interested in seeing the Anne Frank exhibit, which luckily for me was a Free add on for the Month of October, otherwise it will cost an addition $19. I found the Anne Frank exhibit very interesting, but felt too many people were allowed in per timed entry, so there was some waiting your turn to get closer to see and read things. There is a handheld guide included which I liked a lot. As I mentioned, you can easily spend a day here, and you can spend the day seeing the exhibits that are included with your entrance without spending extra for the add Ons. If you do add on the additional experiences the price jumps from $25.95 for general admission to $74.95 pp (Anne Frank $19, U-Boat $18, Coal Mine $12). Frankly, I think you'd be exhausted if you attempted all of that in one day. Great way to spend the day.

It was a nice experience. Mostly targeting education for children. There were full classes and parents visiting which was challenging at times . Reasonably priced lunch options with tasty food. Most Impact full exhibition was of the life pf Anne Frank .
Next to Obama Center. Those two places fill your day!
Get there early. Very busy. Well maintained everything was clean and taken care of. Staff was pleasant and new there stuff.
You will need a full day (or more) to really see everything this place has to offer. I will warn you there are A LOT of uncharges here though. My favorite parts of this museum are the model trains, the historical Boeing 727, the space exhibit, and the cool weather exhibit. The foot court also has a good selection!
So much to see! We spent 4 hours there and didn’t see it all! We enjoyed everything. We had lunch there and it was delicious.
My partner and I spent five hours at this museum on a quiet Friday. We paid extra for the coal mine tour (worth it) and the imax movie about extreme weather (good, but not great). We enjoyed walking and learning our way through the zephyr, airplane, mirror maze (our favorite), farm science (watching baby chicks hatching), weather, massive model train city (second favorite), and space travel areas. Lunch was okay, but too pricey for what they offered…more so than other major museums (except Art Institute cafe which was more expensive). This is a great place for curious people. We left because five hours was enough, but we know we missed some of the exhibits. We were just too tired.
Go early in the morning. We went around 10am on Sunday and there was no line to view the individual attractions however towards the end of our 3 hours visit the lines had quadrupled! Great museum - educational and fun for all ages!
It was a very educational experience. I got to see inside the German U boat, although the presentation from the guide felt very mechanical. The coal mine tour was great, and I also enjoyed a show at the giant dome theater. The Pioneer Zephyr train was impressive, as was the No. 999 steam engine. The Science Storms exhibit was one of the highlights, especially getting to stand inside a 40 foot tornado! Overall, a great experience.
Amazing experience! So much to see and interacting activities. Very educational as well, Anne Frank was very telling. The submarine was cool to see. The blue paradox was amazing and my favorite! The vortex is cool to see. BASICALLY EVERYTHING IS COOL! That’s my highlight.
The Tazewell and Anne Frank exhibitions were phenomenal! Neither should be missed. I just wish that the Tazewell exhibit had been given a more prominent place in the museum.
As a science girly, this science is massive! So many interactive activities and fun things to do with adult friends or the kiddos.
We went to the Griffin Museum of Science and Industry specifically to see the Anne Frank exhibit. It was okay, but I wouldn’t say it was a must-see. I didn’t really learn anything new, and it was crowded enough that it could be difficult—and a little frustrating—to actually take your time with the exhibits. The guided portion of the tour was definitely the best part. One thing I didn’t love was having to purchase general admission to the museum in addition to the Anne Frank exhibit. We’re from the Chicago area and have been to Science and Industry many times, so we’ve already seen most of the museum and weren’t really interested in paying for general admission again. Overall, I’m glad we saw the exhibit, and the guided tour was worthwhile, but I thought the experience as a whole was just okay rather than great.
This museum was wonderful. We were lucky to see the Anne Frank exhibit. We definitely want to come back because there is so much more to see.
We loved every minute of our visit! Very clean & well organized museum, helpful staff and has something for everyone. Our only regret is not having enough time to enjoy all of the exhibits. Give yourself 3-4 hours
We loved this visually beautiful museum. The U505 exhibit is astounding. You need at least 5 hours to get through it. Pay close attention to hours of operation as they change with little notice.
Fantastic tour guides! We did the coal mine & u505 tours and both were great! Highly recommend!
The museum was huge. We went for the Spider-Man exhibit and saw lots of other things that were thought provoking as well.
We had an amazing time at the Griffin Museum! There is so much to see and do with just general admission that kids will stayed entertained all day. We also paid extra for the Spider-Man exhibit and it was definitely worth it. The spidermen store didn't really have much available though
My wife and I went to this museum on a rainy day in Chicago. It was so, so fun. My wife had never been here and didn't know what to expect, but the quantity and quality of exhibits completely exceeded her expectations. We took the coal mine tour and it was really interesting learning about the progression of coal mining through history. Our other favorite exhibit was the blue paradox, which emphasized climate change and how it is affecting the world around us. Everything was just so fun and interesting, we will definitely be back when we have kids!
Great info and sights the views were amazing, never felt like we were being rushed through the day. The 90 minute tour was excellent.
Amazing. Clean and reasonable price I loved the organization and it has something for all ages Highly recommended
The Museum of Science and Industry is huge. Like the Field Museum or Art Institute, it really deserves half a day if you want to explore it in earnest. Many of the exhibits are designed with kids in mind, but there is plenty for adults to enjoy here as well. I visited mostly for the Anne Frank exhibition, which was interesting and poignant. I also enjoyed the transportation gallery. Unfortunately, I didn't have enough time to check out the U-boat or space center, both a long walk from the main building. One drawback is the admission price. By itself, it's not too bad, but once you start adding a featured exhibition or two, it can quickly surpass $50. Just be sure you know it won't be a cheap ticket.
Great museum with lots to see. There were some exhibits we circled back through because the layout was somewhat hard to just flow through but nothing that changed our experience. I didn’t know beforehand that some of the larger exhibits required additional tickets which would have been nice to know so consider looking into those because they are separate tickets per exhibit in addition to your museum tickets.
Beautiful building, very clean. We went mainly to see the Spiderman exhibit but stayed and explored the whole museum.
So much to see and do. Be sure to check out the hatching chicks. The Spider-Man exhibit was really cool. You don’t want to miss the human body experience. Be sure to check out the full-size submarine that’s very impressive. Lots of history and interesting facts along the way.
This museum was outside the box! Very interesting and interactive. Easy to navigate. We were there for hours. Did the coal mine tour which really was not to be missed. The submarine was well worth it as well. Learned a lot
This is a great museum with something for everyone. I really enjoyed the special exhibit about Anne Frank. It was really well done. The museum is very interactive.
This museum is WORLD CLASS. This museum is great for families or friends trips. Extremely well designed and activities for all. Docents are helpful with all events. The Ann Frank exhibit was exceptional. Loved the U-505 exhibit.
Having been to the museum before, we visited this time primarily for the Anne Frank exhibit and the Paul Tazewell costume design exhibit. Both were amazing! The Anne Frank exhibit requires an additional admission fee. Recommend an hour and an half to two hours for the Anne Frank exhibit. No photos were allowed at the Anne Frank exhibit.
The museum itself is wonderful. But the second party ticket sales didn’t work right and had to go through a a hassle when we got there, but the employees at the museum were helpful and friendly. Don’t book tickets they viator
We always love coming here and our grandkids really enjoyed the museum as this was their first time here. We did several things while in Chicago but this was their favorite. The only complaint I have was there seemed to be several things that did not work. The things that might show you a video or sound. Things that you turned to make balls go down a chute was slipping and worked just here and there. My husband and I were disappointed as it just seemed there needed to be some maintenance and updating. The grands didn't notice and still had a great time!
The museum has so much to offer. You could easily spend hours and hours here. The museum is great for kids because of the many interactive activities. The museum has a lot of history as well. I didn't get to visit every part. I want to go back.
Having got to Chicago City from NZ, we ubered to the Griffin Science Museum. We paid US$51 admission fee and we were excited at the thought of seeing the exhibit U boat 505. What was so very disappointing was, having paid the admission fee and not being advised that the U Boat exhibit was a further US$36 for us both, we were expected to pay this extra fee. To my mind paying NZ$153 to visit this museum and the U Boat 505 is exceptionally excessive!!!
There was so much to see but the map didn’t help. Arrows on the floor would have been easier. Some areas you had to pay more to see and the parking I believe was too expensive
I highly recommend this museum for kids and adults of all ages. There is so much to do and experience. I wish I had booked ahead for the coal mining but there was plenty to do on the first trip without it. 10 out of 10.
Probably one of the best science and technology museums I have been to. Lots of opportunities for interaction.
Great museum! The line can be super long, with only 2 people working. Buy online if possible, however if using military discount you will need to wait. Spiderman Exhibit was what brought us to town and was fantastic!
A lot of the activities in the museum were out of order and a few things required a separate ticket, but overall a good way to spend a few hours.
No prebooking needed. Just Ubered from our hotel. My husband is a veteran so we were pleasantly surprised to get free admission! We spent 6 hours exploring and enjoying the wide range of exhibits.
The Griffin Museum of Science and Industry was amazing! We spent about 4 hours there and saw just a fraction of the exhibits. We loved the U-Boat exhibit and the coal mine exhibit but perhaps my favorite was the exhibit of the costumes of Paul Tazewell (who designed costumes for the Hamilton stage show, Wicked movie etc). It was truly awe inspiring! We highly recommend the museum!
The whole family loved it! The U505 Submarine was a great experience. If you don't want to spend a lot of money on lunch, I would suggest packing a lunch. It took us about 5 hours to tour the Museum.
Museum for space, junkies, and technology people
It was full of discovery, and interesting things. I gave it a lower rating because of several of the hands on exhibits were inoperable.
We loved the museum. Expansive, beautiful, fun, and all the things we hoped for. There were unfortunately quite a few of the hands on exhibits that were not working that day, so that was disappointing. Regardless, the marquee exhibits were wonderful!
This museum was very vast and interesting! Beautiful museum. Was a little different than the average museum. We did “special” tours at an additional cost but they were both worth it. The coal mine tour which used real equipment Therefore depicting a true story of the time. The other “special “ tour we took was of the German U505 submarine which was captured by the Americans. It is one of five in the world. How these men lived in this tube for a period of months is beyond me. They truly were the greatest generation.
Terrible customer service. Booked the wrong date and they would not respond to help me move to another date due to travel complications. Do not book online.
Very nice museum. We thoroughly enjoyed almost all of the exhibits, including the ability to walk in a fully restored 727 jet with excellent accompanying exhibits. My favorite was the fully restored aluminum, streamline art deco train. You could also walk into it, etc. Other exhibits about health and other various subjects. The museum was started almost 100 years by one of the gentlemen who ran Sears. It's nice when ultra rich people do something this great and is appreciated for generations. Only negative we had was going on a weekday, there was an excessive amount of young somewhat uncontrolled and loud schoolchildren there for a visit.
The museum was a great experience, as always, including the very enjoyable Spider-Man and costumes special exhibits. However, the highlight was the well-done, touching, and sad Anne Frank exhibit. While it includes a very realistic recreation of their hideaway, the highlight is all of the displays on the rise of the Nazis and the atrocities they committed. Very powerful overall and something that everyone in the country should see,
Griffin Museum of Science and Industry : The Griffin Museum of Science and Industry (Griffin MSI) is a world-class destination located in the historic Hyde Park neighborhood. Housed in the only remaining building from the 1893 World's Columbian Exposition, it is the largest science center in the Western Hemisphere and focuses heavily on immersive, "hands-on" learning rather than traditional static displays. Must-See Exhibits • U-505 Submarine: A massive, authentic German U-boat captured during WWII. You can walk through the vessel (additional ticket required) or explore the surrounding high-tech gallery. • Science Storms: A two-story exhibit where you can step into a 40-foot tornado, trigger a Tesla coil "lightning" strike, and experiment with fire, water, and magnetism. • The Coal Mine: A beloved Chicago tradition that takes you down a mineshaft into a replica of an Illinois coal mine to see the machinery and history of the industry. • Transportation Gallery: Features a Boeing 727 hanging from the ceiling (which you can board), the Pioneer Zephyr train, and a massive model railroad that spans from Seattle to Chicago. • **Henry Crown Space Center: Home to the Apollo 8 Command Module and interactive displays about space exploration and the future of NASA. Overall it’s an amazing experience and must do if coming with kids to Chicago.
