The Viator voucher does not specify for a specific timed tour. Call ahead to reserve a tour for the time you like. The front desk clerks were spacey and unwelcoming. Our tour guide, Preeti, was lovely and made the visit worthwhile. The house has been restored, but few original furnishings.

The Frederick C. Robie House on the University of Chicago campus is considered one of the most important buildings in the history of American architecture. This Prairie style masterpiece is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site on the 20th Century Architecture of Frank Lloyd Wright List. Discover the residence Wright described as “a cornerstone of modern architecture” on guided tours that take in both the exterior and interior of the building. Tour guide was knowledgeable and interesting. Would definitely recommend. Plan on tour every hour on the hour.
Quite Interesting, especially if you are interested in architecture and Frank Lloyd Wright’s approach.
Excellent Frank Lloyd Wright tour with a knowledgeable tour guide. Parking close by is a challenge. Parked at University of Chicago medical center.
Brought tickets from Viator for a Saturday tour. Venue was sold out for the Saturday i purchased for. Then spent 30 mins on phone with Viator customer service to try and get a refund. There website says i have 24 hrs to request or I would be unable to do so. After 30 mins they said they would follow up with me for the refund. 3rd party garbage. If you want tickets go to the source. Lesson learned
Fantastic building, extremely knowledgeable staff! Just the historical aspect is enough to “wow” you, the architecture is the icing on the cake!
The guide was very knowledgeable about the house and Frank Lloyd Wright . It is located on the beautiful campus of the University of Chicago. It is a short walk to the new Obama Presidential Center.
The house has no furniture in it; only one picture; and no placards to offer any information beyond what you will learn from the guide. Also, if your buy your tix from Viator, be prepared for them to not be recognized/accepted. I received a bar code from Viator telling me I was “all set” to visit. No arrival time was given but since it didn’t ask me to set one I assumed I could just show up anytime within their working hours. Instead, when I got there I was told there were no available spaces for the rest of the day. I showed them the barcode and was told that apparently this happens quite a bit and you’re supposed to call ahead to make an appointment. I said, “there’s no number here for me to call. How would I know to do that?” And a woman behind the counter, who I was not originally talking to, and who was 8 feet away, said, “well, you have to call: the number is there.” I explained, again, that there was no number and that I have a barcode so why would I think that I had to do anything else? She continued to talk to me from 8 feet away, in a rather abrupt and brusque manner. and said, “well it’s probably in the email; look in the email they sent you.” So I pulled up the email and, again, there was no phone number telling me to call anything. The email said I was “all set.” Luckily, the young woman I was originally talking to before being rudely interrupted by the other woman, gave me the high sign and told me to just wait a second and she would help me, and she indeed did get me on her 2 o’clock tour. Clearly, there’s some issue going on with Viator, but that problem is between Viator and the Robie House: it’s not my issue. I had a real problem with the interrupting woman telling me to “call Viator and get your money back.” I was visiting from Philadelphia and had paid for two tickets and carried a bar code for entry. Don’t tell people to just call and get their money back: FIX YOUR SYSTEM. Additionally, if I’m paying $20+ to visit an historical home, showing me a series of empty rooms that all look identical (right down to the paint color) isn’t going to cut it. This was a frustrating and very disappointing experience all-around. The only reason I gave it 2 stars instead of 1 is because our guide, Zora, was kind enough to help me out with the tix situation and did do a good tour with what she had to work with.
What a wonderful tour. Our tour guide was knowledgeable share amazing stories about the history of the home.
The Frederick Robie House has been lovingly restored to its original glory and our interpreter, Tim (when you go, you will understand), was very knowledgeable.
I did not know that there was a timed entry tour you had to sign up for. I thought it was self guided. Just be aware and be cognizant of the time; since we were there 1 hour before closing and it was the last tour they were offering
Our guide was very informative in explaining Frank Lloyd Wrights architectural vision. Was very informative. There are stairs so it’s not handicapped accessible.
Our group was small which was nice. Our guide was very knowledgeable. The gift shop has wonderful souvenirs.
Our guide was very knowledgeable and made the tour enjoyable. For great architecture, try this at least once
This is a great tour of a very interesting home. Important to note that one has to contact the venue directly after purchasing the ticket via Viator to schedule the tour time.
Outstanding! Our tour guide Jim was extremely knowledgeable & the entire experience was better than expected,
Walking through fancy houses isn't for everybody. There's no landscape, games, rides, or show; so there's nothing wrong with taking a pass on this place. If, on the other hand, you've been to San Simeon Castle, or Biltmore, or Falling Waters, or if you ever wanted to go, you will probably enjoy this place. Frank Lloyd Wright's idiosyncratic ideas of beauty and luxury were fun to discover, and much of the house is drop-dead gorgeous (those windows -- wow). Architecture students will probably enjoy it most, but it has plenty for the rest of us to enjoy..
Our guide was not friendly. She told me I could not bring my bag because it was too big. I have never on any tour have been told something like this. Completely unacceptable request.
Had no idea what I would be experiencing on this tour. I was pleasantly surprised with the home and the history of the home. The tour director did and incredible job of explaining every detail of the home. You could tell he loved his volunteer position. Makes me want to go visit the other Wright properties that you can tour. I recommend taking this tour
This tour was fabulous. We learned about the history and architecture of the Robie House. Our guide was knowledgeable and entertaining. The only issue with our voucher was we didn’t realize we had to reserve a specific tour time through the Robie House. We highly recommend the optional self guided audio tour of the neighborhood and parts of U Chicago, also focused on architecture. We enjoyed doing that before the house tour because it provided some context.
First of all, our guide was really excellent. She was extremely knowledgeable on all aspects of the home, to include its history, owners, and architectural details. Thanks to generous grants, the house is in excellent condition. For fans of Frank Lloyd Wright's buildings, this was a real treat.
Our guide Dyllan was very knowledgeable, the house has lovingly been restored by the trust. Parking was easy.
Honestly, the Robie House was our favorite experience in our 2-week Chicago/Spring Green/Niagara falls trip. We loved the house and every minute of the very thorough small group (about 12 people) tour. We could not find a bus stop nearby so we took a Lyft from our Chicago hotel. I had booked the tour online through Tripadvisor/Viatour; then you need to get in touch with the Frank Lloyd Trust to get the tickets. We brought sandwiches and ate them in the shaded entry courtyard before our tour; there aren't any restaurants close my.
The house is remarkable. Your tour experience is dependent on who you get. Our guide Emma seemed to be an uninformed intern. If you get her, enjoy the house and rely on what you can read on the internet.
The guide, John, was fantastic. He was very knowledgeable and able to answer every question. Getting an Uber back from there you will need to be patient
The house was very interesting, which is exactly as expected for FLW. Emma the guide was uninformed as a docent. She lost her train of thought about the Robie house three or four times and offered to talk about the plumbing of her 1850s house in St. Louis…….it felt like a college kid doing a summer job. Worst experience of the 20+ FLW tours we have taken.
Beautiful home with a story richly resold by enthusiastic and knowledgeable docents who cared greatly about the home, its historical residences and our experien e that day. The Robie home is stunning and deserves preservation and protection for future generations of Mr. Wright's vision. Only disappointment maybe that we did not get to meet Mr. Wright nor Mr. Robie. Guide kept calling the home Mr. Robie's home or Mr. Wright's home, but neither of them were there that day or were maybe having g toast and tea in the kitchen because that room was not on the tour. Also, it was an early tour, and you are not allowed to go to the bedrooms.on the third floor. I understand, it was a Sunday and I would want to sleep in too. Mr. Wright must be getting pretty old and it didn't sound like he was a church going fella but I hear he likes to design them. Curious fella. Was hoping to meet him. Folks said his house is in oak park, so there's that.
Matthew was wonderful! My wife was so excited to see this home, architecture and classic homes are a hobby of hers so it was a thrill to see this home!
We did the in-depth house tour and it’s worth signing up for. Our tour guide was Dan H. and he was amazing! He is very friendly and knowledgeable and took his time to explain the house and its overall history to us along with checking in with us throughout the tour to answer any questions we had. I’d recommend taking the tour if you’re into history, architecture or Frank Lloyd Wright or all of the above.
I highly recommend this tour. Our guide Matthew was absolutely fantastic! He was very knowledgeable, kind, and considerate to everyone in the group. Thank you for opening my eyes to so many details I would never have noticed on my own.
Viator made the ticket purchase and redemption super easy and it saved me a little bit of money. Robie House, just WOW and the tour guide was amazing, people at store were great also!
Excellent tour. Tour guide very knowledgeable and entertaining. Interesting facts and good access to whole house except kitchen and service areas. Good history lesson. Highly recommend
Awesome Tour! I would highly recommend it while visiting Chicago! Dyllan was very informative! If possible ask for Dyllan!
You will be outside for may 15 minutes of the tour as you are observing the exterior. Also, there is a lot of standing. Although, the tour now includes various chairs set up for visitors who need to sit. Only specific chairs which are obvious are for visitors. Stay with your tour guide to get the full benefit, these tour guides know there stuff. We had Pretty and she was absolutely wonderful.
We are Frank Lloyd Wright nerds. It was a great experience. Our guide was wonderful. Everything was on schedule.
Did the one-hour inside tour (snowing outside the day we went). Ran about 10 minutes over since the tour guide had so much information to share. Incredible story about this luxurious, ground-breaking design for 1909. This was our first Frank Lloyd Wright visit, will start to visit his other houses.
Amazing architecture. The surrounding neighborhood is beautiful. Not easily accessible for disabled.
Guide was knowledgeable and passionate not only about Robie House, but about Frank Lloyd Wright as well as the Hyde Park area. The Robbie house is a wonderful building!
It was very informative. I learned a lot about Frank Lloyd Wright and how his designs blend inside and outside elements. Also about the history of Robie House and how it almost demolished but was saved.
Your website did not alert me to the fact that we had to be at the Rob house at certain hours. We got there at 4 o’clock thinking we could just tour the place. We ended up having to spend $150 to get a tour as the only option. I would like a refund. Your website did not alert us to any of these problems.
Great museum and tour for those interested in Frank Lloyd Wright's work. Prairie Style house built around 1910
Amazing architecture, docent was very knowledgeable. The tour was very thorough, and you can see the architecture up close
WOW! We took the long tour and found it so informative and interesting. The guide answered all our questions and was open to our responses. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit here.
This is an architectural marvel! The tour guide was excellent at pointing out and teaching guests about the thought and vision that Frank Lloyd Wright had for this house. She was also knowledgeable about the entire history of the house. I could visit this house again and again and never get tire of it!
I found the tour of this house and museum to be very instructive of the architect's life and vision. And the house itself is fascinating, although I don't think it would have been comfortable to live here, and apparently that was the case. Interesting how extreme design may be beautiful, but not comfortable.
It was very informative and a wonderful experience. I enjoyed it very much. The house is beautiful!!
Seeing the Frank Lloyd Wright house was marvelous! Getting the tickets through Viator, however, was bewildering, and when we finally came to the house we discovered that, though I had paid on line, we had only gone through half of the booking process and therefore no longer had reserved places. The people were very kind and accommodating, however, and managed to get us in.
Run don’t walk to this gem. Spectacular piece of American history. The tour guides are phenomenal. Plenty of chairs for sitting in each room if you need a break. FLW does not disappoint!
Seeing inside the Robie House was truly interesting! Tour guide did a great job! The surrounding area is very nice, too!
Beautiful house and well maintained compared to FLW house in Springfield IL. I was disappointed to hear furniture from the house is in storage with one of the departments on campus. I believe the house would be complete with the furniture. We parked in a back area about one building behind the house with pay to park. Walked a short distance in a alley to the house
