Itinerary
We will follow the tunnels and stairs that take us under many blocks in downtown Chicago, accessing buildings like City Hall, with all of its interesting interior details.
We'll get a close-up view of this famous public art piece, given by Picasso to the city of Chicago as a gift, before diving down into the Pedway again.
We will walk through one of our favorite parts of the Pedway under the old Marshall Field's (now Macy's). On WEEKENDS, we will see some interior as well; on WEEKDAYS, we will skip this interior for a different one.
On WEEKEND tour offerings, we will see the interior of this beautiful 19th century building near Millennium Park.
We will access this massive commercial complex via the Pedway, checking out a few favorite spots.
We'll keep the rest of the tour a secret! Come join us on an underground adventure!

This was interesting to walk through part of Chicago history through this under-the-radar tour. Little known facts are shared by good guides as we had in Adam. There is too much information to remember well but it is engaging to be there and view Chicago through a different lense.
Have lived in the region for a long time and never knew the entire story of the Pedway. It was very interesting and Adam was a great guide.
Excellent tour guide, Adam, described many details of the Pedway and Chicago history. They made it interesting and conversational so that it was easy for folks to ask questions and learn more. Adam was friendly, entertaining, effective, and knowledgeable about Chicago history.
Adam did a great job! I really enjoyed the tour.
Henry was a knowledgeable structural engineer who shared fascinating, engaging history of the city's pedway and architecture above. His dry erase drawing explanations helped those of us new to the subject to more easily understanding the amazing physical feats of architecture involved in the creation of the pedway and the buildings above. His explanations of the history and politics that resulted in the quirky layout of the pedway were well researched and very interesting. The pedway has many beautiful architectural features, and many practical ones. We are so glad we toured this hidden gem in Chicago!
I visit Chicago often, and every time I think it’s getting harder for the city to impress me, it proves me wrong. Today, I was lucky enough to discover this tour. 100/10! It absolutely made my day. Our guide was amazing! I definitely plan to take every tour they offer, and I hope to have the same guide again. We had such a varied group: couples, younger and older adults, and even a mom with a three-week-old baby! There wasn’t too much walking, but there were some stairs, so keep that in mind. Even as someone who has spent a lot of time in Chicago, I found this tour fascinating. I learned so much and added several new places to my must-visit list!
Tour guide was very engaging with lots of facts and pointing out details that I would ordinarily miss. I had no idea how much of Chicago was below ground.
First, Heath was an awesome guide/knowledge expert! I had no idea there are pedestrian walkways under Chicago! This was so very informative and eye opening! Everyone should take this tour just to learn more about the history and hidden parts of Chicago! The tour was two hours long, some stairs, and even with some construction blocking the Pedway at points, Heath made up for it by adapting and routing us around the problem. You will also get to see the Stain Glass collection that moved from Navy Pier to a corridor of the Pedway outside of Masy’s! The City of Chicago should do more to advertise and identify the Pedway - definitely a hidden gem of this great city!
It was a great experience. The guide was friendly, knowledgeable, an enthusiastic about the whole experience
Loved it and we learned a lot and saw many new things
Henry was a great tour guide. He was full of interesting facts and stories.
We are residents of Chicago and saw this tour, knowing that anytime we have tried using the Pedway, we either got lost or locked out. I figured we would do it to ensure the former will not happen. This exceeded our expectations. Not only was the host knowledgeable about the Pedway, his passion for this underground treasure was quite apparent. We learned so much Chicago history as well as how to use it. An excellent tour and well worth it
Meeting place worked out really well and I enjoyed the tour. I liked that it was different, I never would have ventured into the Pedway without a guide. Our group was small and we started early and finished on time. I would have liked to have spent more time looking at the stain glass in the pedway. Tour guide was very nice and knowledgeable, my whole family enjoyed the tour.
We signed up for this tour because my son was obsessed with Chicago's underground Pedway and its architecture. We scheduled this tour because we knew he would really enjoy it. Henry was incredibly knowledgeable and patient with our curious kid.
Very interesting. A lot about buildings The Pedway is a hidden gem. More people should know about it and use it
Spencer was a phenomenal guide! His love of the city is evident in his passion and knowledge while showing us around the city. I would absolutely recommend this tour to anyone interested in learning more about Chicago
Absolutely wonderful visit, great guide, very knowledgeable, very enthusiastic, and very dynamic ! We loved everytying, all the history, context, explanation, and culture ! It was really worth it, and we learned and discovered a lot ! Thank you so much Heath !
Heath was an excellent tour guide: very informative and knowledgeable. The tour was great. I would recommend this tour to guests and locals.
Adam was a great tour guide, very entertaining and informative! This was a very interesting full two-hour tour packed full of Chicago history. Definitely worth the price.
Great tour! Our guide was really knowledgeable about the Pedway and its history and was clearly a big fan of the Pedway. I learned a lot, the tour was well paced and I enjoyed the time spent walking “the underground”. Recommend closing this tour!
Adam was a great tour guide! As someone that lives in Chicago, it was fun to learn more about the city.
Colleen was personable, considerate annd knowledgeable. She clearly loves her job. We learned and saw so many things. Thoroughly enjoyed and highly recommend!!!
Spencer was a fantastic guide. Great energy, very knowledgeable. Chicago has so many hidden gems. Love this city.
Great tour! As a resident of Chicago it was great to learn new things about my city. Thank you!!
It was very informative and interesting. Our guide was very knowledgeable and really knew a lot of information
Spencer, our tour guide, had a real passion for the city. He created a memorable, informative and fun experience that we all enjoyed.
Even though I worked in the Loop for 10 yrs, I hadn't used the pedway. Guide Colleen was fun, knowledgeable, personable, and taught us interesting bits of Chicago history never heard before. She also created a nice connection among our small 6-person tour (people who didn't know each other before the tour).
spencer was incredible. his love for the city is very clear and he showed it with everything he told us. thanks so much for a fantastic time and walk. cannot recommend this enough.
Excellent! Such much info. So much fun. Heath was excellent !!!!
The tour guide was friendly and very knowledgeable of the city's history and architecture, and current building projects. His background in completing a degree in architecture with a specialty in structural engineering, and many years working on various projects in Chicago as a structural engineer gave him a unique vantage in explaining the architectural and structural aspects of many buildings along the way, both historical and modern.
Interesting history of the city. Adam made the tour fun and informative. I would certainly recommend this tour as a good way to experience the city, especially if you have a limited amount of time.
Excellent tour with Heath. A great trip for people new to living in Chicago but also of value to a tourist who has family living in the city. I learned tips about how to get around in Chicago, saw a few beautiful building interiors and gained appreciation for Chicago history and some basic city planning tidbits. Meeting spot was easy to find but be aware that the tour ends at a different location than starting spot. There is a lot of walking and stairs but at a very doable pace. I actually ended up using a portion of the pedway to get back to public transit! The pedway signs can be difficult to spot so it was helpful to know how to spot them . I think this tour is very relevant/helpful for people who travel to Chicago a lot or who live here. I learned a lot, but for someone wanting to get an overall view first look of Chicago, there are other tours for that. I really enjoyed this tour and the time went quickly. It was mostly indoors so a good tour to do when weather is bad.
Great tour. Guide knowledgeable and fun
My daughter and I took the Chicago Architecture Tour: Underground Pedway & Secrets of the Loop this Tuesday while we were downtown for the day. We’re from the suburbs but had never heard about the pedway, so we figured it might be interesting. Our tour guide, Heath, was an outstanding! He was able to weave Chicago history, people, architecture, and artwork into a captivating tour about the pedway. Without him, we would have gotten lost in the pedway and had no idea about why it is so special and unique. We have walked away with a new understanding of what makes Chicago “Chicago”, and received some cool dining, drink, and shopping recommendations along the way. We highly recommend this tour if you have the time.
Spencer was a wonderful guide, and I was grateful for the knowledge he shared.
Adam was a great guide...highly recommend this for architecture and history lovers.
Talk about the unknown. The Pedway experience opened a whole new world that was so uniquely Chicago. I’ve always heard about the underground and my grandmother using it to stay out of the elements on the way to work. Our guide, Spencer, is as knowledgeable and energetic. Well done
Great tour, excellent guide (Spencer) . Lots of hidden nooks and crannies of the city!
Took the Chicago Pedway Tour with Heath and really enjoyed it! I had no idea the underground pedestrian system was so extensive. Heath was knowledgeable and clearly passionate about the Pedway. It’s a fun, different way to see Chicago, especially if you want to escape the weather or see the Loop from a totally new angle. Highly recommend if you’re looking for something off the beaten path!
This isn’t a mobster or closed metro tunnel tour. Despite this it was very interesting. Minimal bathroom breaks.
I took the “Chicago's Underground Pedway & Other Secrets of the Loop” tour, and I really enjoyed it. The guide was great. He is an architect who has actually worked on the design of several Chicago skyscrapers. He was very passionate, knowledgeable, and had a great sense of humor. I would definitely recommend it.
Spencer was an incredible guide. I have lived in Chicago for 35 years and was not aware of the pedway. Even in the buildings that I was aware of, I learned so many new facts and interesting tidbits. Highly recommended!
Love love love. I highly recommend this tour.
I feel like this is better suited for local commuters rather than tourists. Though learning about the existence of the Pedway was interesting, I thought the tour would cover more Chicago history and architectural significance. Most of the tour was spent on pedway maps and how to navigate a system that is not easily navigable.
Cool to see hidden parts of the city and learn more about its history Or guide was fun informative and patient. He answered our questions and really made the experience great.
What a great experience this walk through parts of Chicago’s Pedway turned out to be. Adam, our guide, was welcoming, professional, informative, and occasionally funny. His knowledge & love of the city & buildings was impressive, even those that weren’t on this tour. Highly recommended.
Hardly walked. Thought the Pedway was longer. Stood and talked for most of the walk. Guide was fudging on Facts about the city. People who live in the City knew the truth, but out of state people did not.
Spencer was great! Very knowledgeable
What a wonderful knowledgeable guide. He was kind and patient.
