The hotel is nice and rooms are great. I quickly learned on the first night that the room AC is controlled and central fan cannot be left on. This leaves the room becoming uncomfortably hot and unventilated even with the AC at the lowest setting. The bedding being a thick down blanket makes this especially unpleasant. The resolution to the issue was being offered a broken box fan and a twin sized blanket that has the texture of a beach towel. Not something I would expect at a hotel at this price point and will not stay here again because of this.

The location is very convenient, being so close to Michigan avenue and the river walk.
People at the check-in were very kind and have been always available during the stay to support us.

Being Bonvoy platinum we enjoyed the complimentary breakfast (greek yogurt with cinnamon roll and bagel).

Okay where to start. Ive been to a lot of hotels and have membership statuses from a lot of them. It was my first visit to the Gwen for a weekend over July 4th. The location was great and the rate was good. As soon as we arrived staff were very welcoming and were very descriptive of all the perks that were provided for my stay.
They also had lemonade and cucumber-infused water right out of the elevators. We also received a room upgrade on arrival.
The room was very well kept and the staff were very helpful with all our needs. We also ordered room service during the stay and it was brought on a nice rolling table.
Wed definitely stay at the Gwen again!
The Gwen for our wedding = best decision we ever made!
We recently had our wedding with the Gwen and had a perfect weekend. Nothing went wrong, and our guests had nothing but fantastic things to say about the guestrooms, event space, and the staff. The staff at the Gwen are so kind and genuine, and made us and our guests feel truly welcomed and celebrated. Everyone kept congratulating us, doing small special gestures, and asking if we needed anything. We had a welcome reception, wedding ceremony/cocktail hour/reception and brunch at the hotel. The location is fabulous for guests visiting as all of our guests were from out of town. We stayed in the Gwen Suite and it was perfect for getting ready for a party of 12 women.
Audrey was so great to work with, she successfully worked with our families and us to create our dream wedding and we could not be more thankful.
To begin with, The Gwen is absolutely beautiful inside and out. The room itself was very nice, and the bed and sheets felt amazing, which made our stay comfortable. Moreover, the restroom having both a tub and a shower was a huge plus. The customer service was great, and housekeeping also did an excellent job during the two days we stayed.
Furthermore, the location is a major highlight. You are literally right next to the mall and surrounded by major retail stores and restaurants, which made everything super convenient and enjoyable.
However, there were a few downsides that definitely took away from the experience. In addition, the deposits they require are excessive they wanted a $500 deposit just for a microwave, which felt unreasonable. On top of that, they withdrew funds simply to check if we had the amount available, which was concerning, especially since this was done through their official website.
Moreover, the website mentions complimentary bikes to explore the city, but when we asked, we were told they’ve been under maintenance since last year which is misleading and should be updated online. In addition, if you’re looking for a city view, make sure to book the deluxe room and not the superior, as this is not clearly stated on the website either.
Lastly, they also charge a destination fee for Chicago 360 for two people, which is something to keep in mind when budgeting your stay.
Overall, the hotel is beautiful with great service and an unbeatable location, but the hidden fees and misleading information make it a bit of a mixed experience.
