This place is sort of strange. They obviously invested a lot in the lobby (which smells of perfume for some reason?) but sort of ran out of money. The rooms give you nothing. They clean every three days. There aren’t even do not disturb signs. The shower curtains are the cheapest possible kind and don't have weights and cling to your body. Two of the three hooks for towels came out of the wall. Staff promptly brought towels and a coffee maker when I requested them. And the location and old school building are charming. But investing $100 more per room would go a long way. My husband loved the bed! So the sleep was excellent.

The room that I was in had very old blue carpet with bleach stains and a broken bedside lamp. I’m old and the bed is very low. It is a fun experience and delicious breakfast but there’s no tea or coffee in the room and none available in the lobby area, at least I didn’t see it. I enjoyed breakfast a lot! The area is nice. I’m just confused why my room was so outdated and nothing like the photos. The halls are very dark and everything I saw needed a good paint job. My shower curtain was a strange fabric that stayed on my leg while showering and then I pushed it over and the floor got soaked. I still liked the hotel for 2 nights. I paid over $500 and I do think that’s too much for the look of the room I received. I paid for drinks, dinner and breakfast but didn’t want the drinks offered. Oh well! Still had fun. I used public transportation because the parking was so high. I only took photos of the old mail slots! Lol 😍
My stay was extremely disappointing. I traveled to Chicago for a mix of business and leisure—to enjoy the museums, food, and a concert—and expected a welcoming, respectful hotel experience. Instead, as two young Black women, we felt unnecessarily rushed, unwelcome, and disrespected. The housekeeper on our floor, Wendy, repeatedly banged on our door beginning at 8:00 AM despite our confirmed 1:00 PM late checkout. She even stepped into our room to insist that checkout was at 12:00 PM, then returned multiple times and waited outside our room until 1:00 PM. When I reported this to Annie at the front desk, my concerns were dismissed. The condition of Room 1402 only added to the disappointment. There were stains throughout the carpet and on the blinds, and the room had a strong, unpleasant odor, almost as if the carpet had been wet and never fully dried We were not in Chicago to party or cause trouble. We were simply travelers who came to enjoy the city, attend a concert, handle business, and spend our money at this hotel. Unfortunately, the experience left us feeling unwelcome and questioning whether our age and race influenced the level of hospitality we received. I would not recommend this hotel. The location was really good right up the street from shopping, the beach, and actually a nice community. See you again Chicago just never here. Why advertise and make content to get people here for such a terrible experience, environment, and staff
While this was not the property we made a reservation at we ended up staying here & am so glad we did. The staff was simply the best! So nice, so accommodating! A huge shout out to William at the front desk who did everything to make us feel better about being moved to the property. The room was comfy, great walls as we didn't hear anyone else, great shower pressure & location. We visit Chicago frequently & will definitely be staying here again.
First and foremost I was charged a "resort fee" of $142 that eerily resembled the upcharge that was offered when I booked the room but declined. It was for drinks, which I don't drink, and breakfast which we had plans for eating elsewhere. The desk clerk said it was because I booked on Hotels.com. I call bull. I was too tired to fight it and am disputing the charge on my Amex. The room had an ugly brown carpet with bleach stains. The bed was no more than a foot off the ground, I'm 6'4" and this was unacceptable. The A/C unit sounded like a dishwasher running all night and the space allocated for the toilet, which looked like a locker room toilet, was hardly big enough to fit in and I'm not fat. How the hell is this a 4 star hotel? I've stayed in nicer Motel 6s. Never again, stay far away from this property
