Palmer House Hilton was a good choice for a downtown stay. The beds aren't very comfortable but the rooms have all the amenities you need including a safe, refrigerator, closet and clothes iron. Bathroom is big enough to move in and shower without splashing the rest. As other reviews have mentioned, the fitness center was amazing with a pool, sofas to relax if you didn't want a plunge, weights room, exercise rooms for yoga or stretches, a Peloton cycle room, dry saunas for after work heat therapy and showers. If the hotel switched to LED lighting the whole atmosphere would be brighter and yet not have a glare. There was a union strike ongoing for better pay and benefits for workers so we didn't have full service from housekeeping, but we got everything we needed from a mid-stay room upkeep to a microwave oven and new towels. Check in was smooth and the in-room entertainment offers broadcast and streaming options. All in all great location of you intend to walk around and see the city.

Disgraceful Experience – Absolutely Not Worth US$750 a Night and not even worth 1 Star. Paying US$750 a night to stay at the Hilton Palmer House Chicago during marathon weekend, I expected a premium experience. Instead, we received appalling service, poor communication and a hotel that was nowhere near worth the price. The hotel’s communication surrounding the strike was terrible. Guests were given no clear advance notice that housekeeping would not be provided, leaving us to seek out our own towels and go without basic services. When I questioned why we were still being charged “resort fees” when there was no housekeeping or room service available, the lack of justification was staggering. What exactly were we paying for? This is hardly a resort in the first place. The rooms are old and tired, there was not even tea and coffee provided, and several fixtures didn’t work. Service from the staff who were working was equally disappointing, and to top it all off, we endured loud banging throughout the night from those involved in the strike. For a hotel charging these rates, the lack of communication, basic amenities and customer service is simply unacceptable. A historic building and a big-name brand do not justify premium pricing when the actual experience is this poor. An absolute rip-off. I would not recommend this hotel and would seriously question staying at a Hilton property again.
The only good things about the property were its location and the front desk staff. Aside from what I described above, everything else was horrible. - Our first night there, my wife and I had dinner at the restaurant on sight, initial impressions were that the restaurant was amazing. The person responsible for taking our order brought us our waters and drinks but then took forever to come back and actually take our food order. - Secondly, the beds were awful. They were NOT COMFORTABLE at all! It was like they got some cheap mattress and just put it on a bed frame. Trying to sleep was difficult! Kept feeling like something was poking my back! My wife couldn’t get any sleep either! She kept on having to wake up at 3 AM! - The management did not inform any of the guests that there was a strike planned with their hotel staff. My wife and I found out on our second day there. Initially this wasn’t an issue but there was no room service. Our bed sheets were not changed. We didn’t get new towels. The bathroom floors did not get cleaned. Also, my wife informed me that even the tub in our room flooded a little bit. It ended up becoming a filthy nightmare for us. - Honestly this should not be a 4 star hotel. For the amount I paid, approximately $2800, it was not worth it. My wife and I love Chicago, but this hotel is awful! Just pay your staff a livable wage! The workers striking were right, hotel management did not care about the guests. They comped us some points.. heck they should refund me the amount I paid for the stay. My wife and I were here for the Chicago Marathon. Next time when we come, we will NOT be staying here!
Honestly underwhelming experience. The lobby is as grand and breathtaking as it appears in photos, but that’s about all I can say. I understand it’s the oldest hotel in the Midwest, but the rooms are nothing special for being a luxury hotel. We were on the Executive levels and I would’ve thought this was a Hampton Inn. Everything clean and comfortable, but nothing high-end at all. The front desk service was great and brutally honest saying this hotel is not known for its views. If you’re on the NE corner you may get a glimpse of the park and the lake, otherwise enjoy the rooftops. Cool experience, but not worth coming back. The brownie is pretty good. We did self-park and it was fine. A little walk, but not bad for the city. Expect to go up for a while. They will validate your parking ticket at Check In.
We stayed here this past weekend. The lobby is beautiful! Service was friendly. Unfortunately, our room was a bit run down. Chipped corners on furniture, wallpaper peeling, mold in the shower handle and the shower kept backing up. The beds were incredibly comfortable though. For the price and outward look of the hotel I expected a higher quality.
