This hotel is marketed as a luxury boutique experience, but unfortunately, that is not what we experienced. From the moment you walk in, things feel awkward and poorly thought out. The front desk is essentially at the bar, and the lobby restrooms are down a back hallway that feels like a staff area. More disappointing was the service. I politely asked if an early check-in might be possible and was met with a scoff. I understand completely if a room isn't ready, but basic courtesy costs nothing. When I asked if they could hold our bags, the response was a curt, “Well, how many you got?” Whenever a larger group enters, staff yell across the lobby, “Only 6 people allowed in the elevator!” It hardly creates the upscale, welcoming atmosphere the hotel advertises. The Sky Terrace is also misleadingly promoted as an amenity. Despite being a major selling point online, guests apparently cannot use it unless there is a private event—it otherwise remains completely closed. The rooms look nice in photos, but up close the property desperately needs attention. Carpets are dirty and frayed, floors are heavily scratched, couches are worn, pieces are falling off furniture, and I could feel every spring in the mattress. “Luxury” simply isn't an accurate description. The saving grace is the excellent location, with easy walking access to the Magnificent Mile and plenty of great restaurants. Unfortunately, location alone doesn't make this hotel worth the experience.

I rarely leave negative reviews, but unfortunately my experience with Ivy Boutique Hotel was extremely disappointing. Several months before my business trip to Chicago, I booked this hotel specifically because of its convenient location near my conference and its reasonable price. Unfortunately, I accidentally selected the wrong month while making the reservation. This was entirely my mistake, and I contacted the hotel immediately after discovering it. The hotel initially offered to transfer the value of my reservation to a new booking, which I sincerely appreciated. However, I then discovered that the room rate for the correct dates had increased to nearly five times the price I originally paid. As a result, the proposed solution became financially impossible. I politely asked whether the hotel could honor my original rate or offer another reasonable solution, considering this was an obvious booking mistake rather than a cancellation or change of plans. Unfortunately, no meaningful solution was offered. Customer service is often measured not by how a hotel handles ordinary reservations, but by how it treats guests when honest mistakes happen. Sadly, this experience left me feeling that flexibility and guest satisfaction were not priorities. I hope management will reconsider how situations like this are handled in the future.
I really enjoyed my stay at the Ivy Hotel. The hotel was spotless, and the contemporary modern design was exactly my style. From the moment I walked in, the entrance, lobby, and even the elevators had a sleek, upscale feel that made a great first impression. We stayed on the 11th floor, and the view overlooking the Chicago skyline was beautiful, especially in the evening. The king-size platform bed was very comfortable, and I also appreciated how cozy and well-designed the living area was. Everything felt clean, modern, and well maintained. The staff was friendly and welcoming throughout our stay, which made the experience even better. I would definitely stay here again and recommend it to anyone looking for a clean, stylish hotel with comfortable accommodations and great city views.
The hotel is pretty modern. It is a boutique hotel, with only 5 rooms for each floor. Booked directly through the hotels website. It included a few city freebies via email, but if you are booking the same day, you may never receive a way to redeem them. The rooms we had was very spacious, very modern. The bathroom had a separate shower and a spacious soaker tub! Very relaxing! There is a TV built into the mirror in the bathroom, but it's not mentioned anywhere on the website that it's there. I wasn't a fan of the pillows and the bed could have maybe been a little softer, but overall...a great stay! All of the staff was wonderful! I think the only things that could make it better would be a gym/fitness center and/or a pool. Maybe converting one of the conference rooms to a gym could work.
We checked in late. The person who was working was sat away from the front desk, looking at his phone. When he came to serve us, he had a lollipop in his mouth which he didn’t remove. Whatever he was watching on his phone continued when he served us. He wasn’t wearing a hotel uniform. It was a very cold welcome. No pleasantries at all. It was the absolute minimum human interaction. It felt very much like we were checking in to a cheap motel, not a $500 a night hotel. The next day, I mentioned this to the person on the front desk. I said it wasn’t great and didnt make a very good first impression. He asked a few questions which I thought were irrelevant (‘were you dropping off laundry?’ ‘But you got here at midnight?’). There was no apology, he didn’t ask what room we were in so he could come back to us later etc… This same member of staff was regularly outside the main hotel entrance smoking cigarettes. The room was large and clean. But we backed on to an alleyway and had a view of an abandoned building. This made the room very dark. This is all pretty disappointing for what we thought was a 4 star (maybe previously a 5 star?) hotel. I was our first time in Chicago and our first time in this hotel. We absolutely will not be staying here again.
