We had Ae for our private food tour, and she was very kind, patient and friendly! The food was generous and delicious. Going with her first gave us the confidence to later go out and explore more on our own. She was also very flexible, accommodating and easy going. She was open to any requests. We also happened to pass by an event and she encouraged us to stop and check it out and even waited while a girl showed me how to craft a flower with bamboo. Thank you for a great experience Ae!
Had a fabulous food experience with Eddie. We were very lucky and didn’t have to wait for the food at any of the stalls. Some can be busy but due to the rain beforehand, stalls were quiet. He was interested in what we wanted to try and spice levels. We tried everything. Great food and pleasant conversation. He took lots of great photos. Would definitely recommend.
Naphat our Guide was so friendly and welcoming we just knew from meeting her that we were going to have a great time. The food tour was amazing, time went so quickly as we moved amongst stalls in two different markets tasting dishes as we went experiencing authentic Thai cuisine from stalls we would not have gone to on our own. We were told about each dish we had with Naphat pointing out foods on the stalls and what it was, she was happy to answer all our questions. Not only did we talk about food but Naphat gave us a real insight into Thailand, its history and people as we went. The tour ended with a walk through the flower market to the river with stunning nightime views. Highly recommend Naphat as your guide and this food tour.
Exciting insight to Thai Street food Richard lead us through a maze of options Great tour could recommend
Naphat is a wonderful guide! She is very friendly, knowledgeable, and very passionate about sharing her culture. The food choices were also quite generalizable and tourist friendly imo while also being culturally significant. Highly recommend!
Go very hungry, so much food and not just a taste but a meal, we shared a plate at most places. Let the guide know what you have already tried so they will take you to places to try food you have not experienced. It was so good not to have Pad Thai or Red Curry. Eddie was definitely stretched with us as we had already tried so many of the Northern Thai foods but he still found more we hadn’t, we made it to 8 dishes from different places then decided no more. He drove us to many places so we experienced true local food. Definitely worth doing.
Great variety of different Thai flavours and tastes. Uthaiwan was an excellent host! We tried so many different foods and visited 2 markets. Left incredibly full, even taking home some of the food we couldn’t eat! Would highly recommend.
Our guide was great - knowledgeable, professional, helpful, and fun. The foods we tried were really good, and it was a great way to see parts of Chiang Mai that we otherwise would not have visited.
My husband and I had a great experience. The guide accommodated our dietary needs and gave us many great options.
Our tour guide, Kunmai, was absolutely amazing. She paid close attention to every detail, making sure everything ran smoothly from start to finish. Her warm, cordial manner made us feel welcome and comfortable throughout the entire experience. Kunmai’s professionalism, knowledge, and genuine care truly elevated the tour and made it unforgettable
This was such a great time! Our tour guide Purichat was AMAZING. She was so nice and explained so much culture and history to us. She ensured the food we had was authentic and delicious and never too spicy for anyone in the group.
My tour was with Sawitchaya and was a fantastic guide. I am vegetarian and she excellently choose dishes and restaurants that catered to that. She is very knowledgeable about Chiang Mai and was able to give historical and culinary context to our meals. Would highly recommend this tour.
Come hungry and pace yourself! It's a lot of food! The locations, information and background are great!
We booked the 10 Tastings of Chiang Mai With Locals: Private Street Food Tour expecting a guided tour through local neighborhoods with multiple street-food tastings, as described. We also chose this tour because it stated vegetarian options could be accommodated. Instead, we were told at the start that vegetarian street food was difficult to find and the guide’s sister would cook for us. We were then driven outside central Chiang Mai to a private building owned by the guide, where we ate a home-cooked meal on a dark, industrial rooftop. While the meal was kindly prepared, it offered no choice, no cultural explanation, and did not resemble a street-food experience. We made brief stops at a vegetarian restaurant and a salad shop, but were left to order on our own with no guidance or insight into local specialties. There was no market visit and no commentary on Chiang Mai’s food culture — all of which were advertised as part of the tour. For over THB 5,000 for two people, this was not the experience described and unfortunately fell far short of expectations. We appreciate the effort made, but this did not deliver what was advertised.
Listen to Eddie's advice. He knows the best. His knowledge and enthusiasm were unrivalled and you will see an unforgettable vision and memory of Chiang Mai food.
We had an incredible experience with Eddie! Such a wealth of knowledge and passion not only about Thai food but also history and culture! All the meals and dessert we tried were phenomenal and it was such a personal and memorable experience! Thank you so much!
We were treated to a wonderful evening getting to know May and her home town. Bubbly and energetic, May expertly introduced us to local haunts - too many dishes to recall them all. We had such a great time chatting with May and absorbing the local vibe that we didn’t even take one photo! But the tour will live in our memories for a long time. Highlights were the pork leg stew, Khao soi and a grilled pork soup (name I can’t exactly remember). May even helped recreate a memory of my last time in Chiang Mai over 30 years ago with the most delicious banana and egg roti eaten at a local market. Thank you May!
Eddie is the best foodie tour guide. He is very knowledgeable about where to get the highest rated local eats. I only wish my stomach was bigger to fit in all the tastings.
I’m fortunate enough to have done a few food tours on my travels but this was by far the best one I have ever done. Our guide was phenomenal! She took us to all the local places to eat and the portion sizes were not small! Definitely come hungry as you’ll be eating over 10 full meals- plus snacks, plus anything else you’d like to try. It was the first time on my trip I truly felt I had a proper Thai food experience. If I could give this more than 5 stars I could.
We loved this tour! I wish we could have made it work with our schedule to do this on our first day in the city so we could have been more familiar with the food and our surroundings. Our tour guide was so kind and amazing. We started off going to a temple and getting to make a wish and see the temple, I really enjoyed this. I didn't realize we were doing this, it was an awesome bonus. All the food we tried was AMAZING! She drove us from spot to spot. We even got to go to the market which was a huge bonus. We absolutely loved this tour and our guide made our time so easy and relaxing, highly recommend this to anyone in the city!
We had a wonderful food tour with our guide, Tanya. She tool us a wide variety of local food joint and made sure we had enough choices even with our dietary restrictions. The food was absolutely amazing! Would highly recommend the tour and our guide Tanya
Naphat is kind, friendly and will tailor your food experience to what you like. It's ALOT of food so come with a very empty stomach! We had the best time and loved everything she recommended. Highly recommend this tour!
We did two tours with Ae. The first one was a food tour around Chiang Mai and we had a ball. Ae is so knowledgeable and personable at the same time. She makes everything fun and we ate so much! The next tour we did with her was a bike ride through the countryside and we actually went through her hometown and because she knew I love coffee so much, she took us to her favorite coffee shop and then we went to the roaster to see how the coffee was roasted. she’s great at tailoring things and finding cool things for one to look at. And she always make sure we have enough to eat and drink! On the bike ride through the country, I was bitten by a dog which is a real fluke and she was quick to take out her first aid kit and put iodine on it and then we all went to the emergency room which was a great experience and she took care of everything. We can’t wait to return to Chiang Mai and when we do we will definitely use her again for any tour.
Very great experience with Mae as our guide. When the description says 10+ tastings, it isn't kidding, so pace yourself as they are legit tastings. Probably at least 7 of them are main dishes. The other thing we appreciated about this tour was the walking between reataurants which helped the food digest and allowed us to eat more or the dishes without feeling sick afterwards. The one thing that wasn't ideal which wasn't really under her control was that one of the tastings was in the Chinese market and it was absolutely packed for Chinese New Year.
Wonderful street food tour with Ae!! Amazing, delicious, interesting and informative. We had such a great tour with Ae who was very knowledgeable, really enthusiastic, kind and considerate. We had lots of fun :-) - local Thai food is so so tasty - can highly recommend!!
I had such a wonderful experience with Naphat. She is very knowledgeable about the city, food and temples. She took me to the best scenic spots, the best food in town, as well as shared great knowledge about temples and Buddhism. I keep going back to the spot she took me for sunset and some of the amazing food we had. Some of the food places included famous spots that Anthony Bourdain visited while he was in Chiang Mai. I had such a great experience the first time that I booked another tour with Naphat. Don’t miss out and book a wonderful tour with Naphat, you won’t regret it!
Tanya was a knowledgeable, friendly, and pleasant guide. We felt fortunate to have such a kind and fun guide showing us delicious dishes in this beautiful city. Highly recommend!
This was the best tour we did in Thailand. May was awesome. She was so informative and we were able to experience the food in a way that we never would have on our own.
Sawitchaya was very welcoming and a font of knowledge. We began and ended the tour at a restaurant and tried specialties such as Koh Soi, massaman Curry and Tom Yum soup. At the first restaurant where we had Koh Soi, it was accompanied by tea salad which was one of the highlights of the day. We spent the middle part of the tour at a local market that was for "locals". The market was clean, well organized and huge. There were an amazing array of produce as well as semi prepared and ready to go foods. Our guide, Sawitchaya, did a terrific job of explaining all the spices, produce and other assorted ingredients and how they were used to create an amazing array of prepared and semi-prepared foods for sale.
We had a really great food tour with Naphat. She was very kind and explained a lot about food and thai culture. She also adapted the tour to our diats (vegan). We can definitley recommend the tour with her! Thank you again and many greetings!
Not worth the money. A little food for the money This tour should cost maximum $50 Shared dishes for three people. Should at least be a dish a person I have taken other food tours with Viatour and found this one to be inferior
We really enjoyed our food tour with Tanya. She was really nice and easy-going, The food experience was really nice, with a variety of savory and sweet options to try. Tanya was incredibly generous with the food and we actually had to work hard not to over-eat. At the end, we were taken on a market tour which was the perfect end to a great tour, during which Tanya asked us to pick several "take away" snacks for later. The best part of the entire tour was learning about Northern Thai cuisine, which Tanya did expertly. We would highly recommend this tour and Tanya as an amazing guide to an interesting array of flavors from the northern part of Thailand. Thanks so much, Tanya!!
May gave us a 5/5 time. She was so knowledge and fun. She brought us to places we never would have gotten to alone. She had us trying things I would not have known existed but we’re all so scrumptious. Book her she’s worth it.
Fantastic experience, fun, knowledgeable, varied, friendly, engaging, genuine and super tasty food!!
Street food with locals Naphat made all her best to find the best spots even if we selected the 1 jan 25, we loved it and can only recommend her.
This food tour was fabulous! It was unique in that we not only ate delicious Thai food, but we also learned so much about the ingredients and method of cooking various locsl Thai dishes. May was a joy ti be with. She took great care if us and made accommodations for things we wanted to see at the temple and market. The time fles by and we had so much fun! It was truly a unique experience. If you are in Chiang Mai this is a tour which is a must😊. Thank you May!!!
Great Food experience, only Little Sightseeing. Really individualized food choices (also for vegetarian) and good advice but only one temple visited with little explanation.
It was great! I am gluten free and the guide Mai helped me make adjustments to the menu. We got to ask all of our questions and tried some amazing food! Great experience for our first day in Chiang Mai
So much good food so little time, make sure your stomach really empty before going. Our host May was super friendly and knowledgeable
Our guide was friendly and knowledgeable about the area and the food. Great mix of street food and restaurants.
My family of 4 did this tour with our tour guide May. It was an incredible experience. She catered to our taste and needs (my mom is vegetarian), and because it was a private tour she added a few stops and new foods just because she thought we would like it. We are stuffed and happy. She’s also very fun as a host and told us a lot about Chiang Mai. Thank you May!!!
Purichat (May) is an exceptionally knowledgeable, patient and kind host. Her knowledge of local cuisine was impressive. She also has an excellent control over the English language, which was very helpful to us. I recommend May to anyone who wants to see an amazing side of Chiang Mai. Thank you, May!
If you want to experience food as the locals do, this is the tour for you. May was amazing! She is a chef and was able to tell us how to make each dish we ate including all of the ingredients used. We ate so much delicious food (come hungry), and we learned so much about the history of the city. I would recommend this to anyone!
We met may at the designated area and then we were on our merry way! What a fantastic history lesson about the city, and even better trying all the local foods. We went to places we didn’t know were there. Just amazing, thank you May.. x
We had such an amazing tour with May. She knows everything about food. We visited great places and had amazing food. We had things that we never tried before even after several years of visiting Thailand. May is a great host and tells about the food and how to prepare it. On the local market she shows you all the ingredients. A great tour if you like Thai culture and food. And if you are a real foodie.
May was exceptional as she navigated our dietary restrictions on this tour. She took us to a cool market where we tasted unique appetizers, fruits and drinks. This was followed by going 2 restaurants where she ordered unique Chiang Mai dishes and explained their ingredients and what made each of those unique. We ended our tour with desserts. May is warm, friendly and very personable. I was unsure on what to expect given we are vegan (my husband is vegetarian) and she made the whole tour very special.
Ae was absolutely amazing. From the moment she met us, she gave us great insight on the city and the culture. All the food spots she took us to was delicious and could be the best foods we ate in Thailand. Would definitely recommend to anyone visiting Chiang Mai. Ask for Ae, she was amazing!
Tanya led us on a fantastic food tour and was able to accommodate all of our allergies and special requests. She provided some lovely cultural context for all of the dishes we tried and talked us through all of the options for sauces, add ons, and condiments. Thanks to Tanya, I have several new favorite foods that I will continue to eat throughout my time in Thailand. I also loved how she took particular care to maintain safety within our group as we walked from place to place. I could not have asked for a better experience and would definitely book a tour with Tanya again.
Purichat took my husband and me on a wonderful tour through the street foods of Chiang Mai. We ate at a variety of street stands and roadside restaurants as well as the local market. We would never have found any of those places on our own. To make it even better, she carefully asked us for our food preferences, and answered all our many many questions about how the dishes were made. She is very knowledgeable! We felt she really personalized this tour in a nice way and would highly recommend her to anyone
